Chapter 5 – First Date

Saturday was fast approaching and chichi was on edge. Why did she agree to this? Maybe it was a bad idea? She had never been on a date before unless it was with Goku. What would they do? What would she say? What if it was gonna be bad? Or good? What if he wants another date? What if he wants to have…

'CHICHI!' A voice called snapping her out of her trance

'Huh? Wha wha wha?!' she looked around and saw Launch there

'You're burning the fries' She pointed as Chichi gasped and pulled them out of the fryer. Launch noticed her friend's behaviour the last couple of days and wondered what was going on, she went over to 18 who was taking a payment from a satisfied customer.

'Do you think Chi Is okay?' she whispered as 18 looked at chichi working in the kitchen then turned back to Launch

'Something is defiantly up. she's been like that the last 2 days'

'You think its Vegito?'

'Nah, she would have said. No. this is something else, we gotta find out'

'How?' Launch asked

'Interrogation' 18 grinned

The end of the day arrived and the 3 ladies were cleaning up. Chichi was sweeping the café floor as 18 put the money in the safe and Launch wiped down the tables. They looked to one another and nodded

'So chichi….you've been very quiet today' 18 called out

'I have?' chichi asked

'Yeah, you've barely said 2 words. Something you wanna talk about?'

'Ummmm no' Chichi blushed

'Chichi we're all friends here. Why don't you tell us?'

'Is it Vegito?'

'No….well…..kinda…..ugh! no it isn't, its me!'

'What do you mean?' 18 asked

'I don't know if I should say'

'Chi?' Launch looked worried

'Okay if I tell you both, will you please not….. freak out'

'We won't'

'Promise?' she asked

'We Promise' they both answered

'*sigh* okay! I… kinda…sort of…... have a date' she said as 18 spat out her drink and launch dropped the cleaning cloth

'WHAT!?' They gasped

'You said you wouldn't freak out!'

'Oh shut up!' 18 gasped

'You have a date?! Like a 'Date' Date!?' Launch asked

'Yeah…'

'What? How? When? Who!?' 18 asked

'Yeah who?!' Launch pushed for an answer

'Just this guy…'

'No no no no you can't just say just a guy! Name!' Launch ordered

'His name's Cain'

'Sounds sexy' 18 grinned

'Shut up' chi chuckled

'I need details!' Launch squealed

'Yeah like is he attractive like the bar is from Handsome to Drop dead gorgeous' 18 joked

'oh for heaven's sake' chichi giggled

'Where between the two?'

'I guess…Very handsome' Chichi laughed

'So he's hot'

'Please stop' Chichi laughed and continued cleaning up

'Sooooooooooo….how'd you meet?' Launch asked

'He came into the café one day and…..well he and I got along. And then he asked me out'

'So you're dating now?'

'No! i…I just….*sigh* I just thought it might be for the best if I tried to….see other people'

'Why now? I mean you could have in the past 7 years…..'

'I guess cause Goku was still Goku back then. Dead or alive. But now he's not even that, and in a way he's met someone else. So why can't i?'

'You sure its what you want? Because the last time I brought it up….' 18 asked as chi sighed

'I know… I said I didn't want to. But then I thought…..why shouldn't I try and be happy and move on with my life, away from wounds of the past'

'And you think this guy will be the one to help you answer that?' Launch asked

'I don't know but I'm willing to see where it could go' chichi answered. Launch and 18 looked at the other and supporting the opportunity, nodded and smiled

'When's the date?' 18 asked

'Saturday'

'well in that case we gotta get you some clothes.' Launch grinned

'Won't this do?' chichi referred to her traditional dress as 18 laughed

'Aww honey. You have so much to learn. we're taking you shopping tomorrow. Videl can open up'

'Oh wait no no I don't….'

'Ah! No excuses! We're going shopping!' 18 smirked as chichi softly smiled

The next day, 18 and Launch were sitting outside the changing rooms of one of the clothes stores as Chichi was in the changing rooms trying on some clothes

'How's it looking chi?' 18 called out

'I uhhhh I'm not sure about this one' she answered

'Well let's see' Launch called out as chichi opened the door and came out wearing a very short red dress

'Damn chichi has a body!' 18 joked as chi blushed

'This is very short' chichi blushed trying to pull the dress down

'I think you look hot'

'Well I don't want hot, I want simple.' Chichi blushed

'Yeah maybe she's right. She needs something more elegant because let's face it, That will get him going' Launch giggled

'But I don't want to get him going! Ugh! This is stupid! why did I say yes? Everything is so complicated now, I have to get my legs waxed and my hair done, I haven't done that stuff in years'

'We can help you I do a great wax job don't I Launch?' 18 asked

'Oh defiantly, and you'll be prepped for bedroom activities' Launch giggled

'Oh god don't mention sex! I wouldn't know where to begin!' Chichi sighed

'Well its not like your oblivious to the whole ordeal'

'I am with Humans!'

'She has a point' Launch agreed

'Its not different, I mean Krillen is in the same situation. I'm an android'

'Yeah but you function with Human abilities, I've only ever been with Goku. I mean I've never even kissed anyone else.'

'chichi I think you're overthinking this a little.' Launch advised

'Yeah let's just get you through the first date to begin with huh?' 18 agreed as chichi sighed and nodded

'How bout this dress?' Launch handed her a Glitter-Lace Short Emerald Green Party Dress that reached just over the knees.

'it's a little revealing' Chichi pointed out

'I have a jacket you can wear it with' 18 offered

'And I have the perfect shoes for you' launch smiled as Chichi sighed and tried it on. Admittingly she looked good in it.

'Okay I like it.' Chichi showed off the dress as 18 and Launch cheered

'You look great' Launch smiled

'Now just bring on Saturday' 18 smirked as chichi nodded

Saturday afternoon. 18 and Launch stopped by Capsule corp before going to meet Chichi at the café with her dress. Chichi was working right up until her date so they offered to bring her stuff and get her ready there. Videl and Gohan were helping her out for the day, They knocked on capule corp door as Bulma answered

'Hey girls, wasn't expecting to see you' she greeted letting them in

'Hey B. we popped by cause I wanted to get that silver jacket you borrowed back. We kinda need it' 18 asked

'oh sure wait a sec' Bulma said as she headed to her room to grab it, she came back down and handed the jacket back

'It was great for that party thanks' Bulma smiled

'Thanks B' 18 grinned

'So what do you need it for? Krillen taking you out?'

'Actually no we need it for Chichi' Launch answered

'Oh is she going anywhere?' Bulma asked

'You could say that' 18 smirked

'She has a date!' Launch squealed as Bulma's eyes widened and smiled

'No way?! A date!? With who?!' Bulma asked

'This guy who played hero with her and even fixed the broken glass window in her café, She said his name's Cain' Launch answered, in that moment, Vegito entered form the back door after spending time in the gravity room and was about to walk in the kitchen and overheard the women talking.

'Ugh women talking' he huffed and turned to go upstairs

'So does Chichi like him?' Bulma asked

'We think so. I mean why else would she agree to go on a date with him?' 18 answered. That Made Vegito stop in his tracks. He turned back and listened in on the conversation

'Yeah we just made her get this really cute dress and she looked amazing! This Cain guy said he was picking her up from the café later so we're just bring her stuff to her' Launch added

'Well let me know how it goes.' Bulma smiled

'Are you gonna tell Vegito?' 18 asked as Bulma thought. Vegito listened in also

'I don't know, I guess there is no harm in telling him, I mean he isn't gonna care. He'll be glad she's moving on… I think?' Bulma said

'Maybe you should hold off telling him, I mean its just a date, we don't know if it could be anything more than that. Maybe we should wait to see how it all plays out' 18 suggested as Bulma nodded

'Yeah I guess. Well let her know I hope it goes well for her' Bulma smiled as the girls left, Vegito headed upstairs into his room and shut the door!

'A date!? my wife (sort of) was going on a date?! No no no no! How could this happen!? Why the hell would chichi agree to a date!? Who was it with?! What did they say his name was? Cain? What the hell was she thinking!? Maybe I should…..? No its too far! But then again? I wonder if this guy was good? What if he wanted to harm her? And I stood by and not listened to my gut? What could I do? I got it! I know what I'll do!' He said to himself and took off into the sky

The café was closed up and Launch and 18 were helping chichi get ready for her big date. Her dress was on and 18 was brightening up her hair as Launch did her makeup. Chichi was nervous, who could blame her

'You could smile a little' 18 grinned as Chichi nervously chuckled

'Maybe I should cancel?' Chichi said

'Don't you chicken out. It'll be fine' Launch smiled

'But what if he doesn't like it? What If i don't like it? What if its bad? Or too good? Or…..'

'Chichi! Just go on the Date, then decide' 18 advised as Chichi sighed and nodded and checked herself out and turned to the girls

'What do you think?' she asked. The dress looking shiny, her hair placed in a side sweep across her left shoulder and her make up brightening up her face.

'I think we did a good job' Launch smiled and handed chi her jacket

'Perfect' 18 smiled

'Okay…I'm ready'

'Well good, cause it looks like he's here' 18 pointed as Chichi turned to see a man outside the café door and knocked. It was him, chichi went to answer it and invited him in.

'Hello' she greeted as he chuckled and checked her out

'You look amazing' He smiled as she blushed, he then noticed Launch and 18 standing there like two Cheshire cats, chichi noticed and cleared her throat

'Umm this is 18 and Launch…' she introduced as Cain waved

'We'll close up chichi' Launch grinned

'Yes you go, have fun, bye bye' 18 said and pushed them out of the café and locked the door, leaving Cain and Chichi outside.

'Well they seem nice' He chuckled

'Yeah their… their great' She agreed. A small awkward silence fell between them until he spoke

'*ahem* well I hope you like Italian' he chuckled as chichi smiled

'Love it' she nodded as he offered is arm out as they walked down the street, completely oblivious to the fact that someone was watching them in the shadows.

They finally arrived at the restaurant as the waiter brought them to their table, the place was beautiful and posh and very romantic setting. Chichi removed her jacket as Cain got an eyeful of her cleavage but was respectful enough to look away, chichi noticed and chuckled

'I realise it's a little revealing, unfortunately my friends insisted I wear it' she giggled

'Well if it helps, I'm not complaining' Cain chuckled as she blushed as the waiter arrived at the table

'Can I get you something to drink?' He asked as Cain answered

'We'll have the bottle of Feudi di San Gregorio Taurasi please' He asked as the waiter nodded and left them to it

'You seem to know your wine' She smiled

'When you've travelled around a bit, you learn a lot of things' he chuckled

'I wouldn't know, I've always been a stay at home kinda girl'

'You've never done anything adventurous?' he asked as she thought

'Well there was this time when…' she went on with her story, through the evening, she talked about her life, interests and family as Cain listened and listed his own life and interests. Chichi was intrigued with how he lives his life. It sounded exciting, by the time the dessert arrived, Chichi and Cain had talked through the whole evening and had some major laughs too

'And then it turned out he was listening the whole time' Cain exclaimed as Chichi laughed out loud

'Oh wow! That was hilarious. I haven't laughed that hard in a while' she said still laughing a little wiping the tears form her eyes. The waiter walked over and handed them the bill.

'Oh I can split the bill…..' she said going to grab her purse

'No way! A gentleman always pays for the first date' he grinned as he paid. Chichi smiled at him. She had no idea she would have this much fun. Cain was interesting, he was charming, and funny, smart, he loved his children and admittingly he was gorgeous. He looked great in a blazer. They left the restaurant and walked down the street. Up on the rooftops Vegito had been sitting outside the restaurant all night waiting for them to come out. Now they were on the move again and so was he. They stopped past a coffee shop, strolling down the street. Cain went in to get a couple. He hands Chi her coffee. They chatted and laughed.

'What are you two talking about. What's so fascinating? So important?' Vegito huffed, feeling threatened by this guy. He couldn't sense a power level, or at least not a strong one, nor could he sense anything dangerous about him. Which in way was more threatening to him. He watches as they walk along the bay and tries not to get too close in case he's spotted. Meanwhile Chichi and Cain continued talking

'So how old are your kids?' He asked sipping his coffee

'Well Gohan is 18 and Goten turned 7 in the summer' she answered

'18? You don't look old enough to have a teenage son!'

'I was young when Goku and I married, we married after the 23rd martial arts tournament'

'interesting, I didn't meet Charity at any tournament but I was only 20 when we married, a couple of years later the girls were born'

'Did you know her long enough?'

'We were in school together, mutual attraction and couple of years before finishing, I asked her to be my girlfriend'

'So you were high school sweethearts? That's cute'

'Yeah, to married and now parents, to what I think are the craziest children 2 people could reproduce' he chuckled

'And how old are they?' she asked

'16'

'Ahh that is a difficult age' she chuckled

'Yeah they take after their mother in that perspective'

'So I do have a question'

'Shoot'

'What exactly happened between you and your ex-wife if you don't mind me asking?' Chichi asked as he sighed

'Well, Part of my job means I travel around a lot, going from city to city finding work wherever I could. So it meant I was away from home a lot. One moment I saw my girls taking their first steps, the next they were having their first day of school. But I was working constantly for them, because I wanted to give them everything, the best toys, the best clothes, the best schools, holidays, and I tried doing it for my wife too. Eventually, Charity went a little crazy and bit my head off about me being away so much, that I wasn't watching Chas and Chelsie grow up. The next time I was away from home, I realised Charity was right, I hadn't been spending much time with the girls, so I asked my boss for a month break, I went home early to surprise my wife and when I got home, I thought I'd surprise her with a romantic night in, but as I headed for the bedroom and opened the door…..well…..I caught her in bed with another man' he exclaimed as Chichi gasped

'Oh my god! That's awful' she said

'Yeah well, I packed my bags there and then, told my daughters I'd see them soon and I bought my own place. They come see me every weekend every 2 weeks so we have a system'

'How long have you been separated?' chi asked

'Well It'll be a year now next month, our divorce settlement should be coming in eventually. And I gotta say, you're my first date too' he chuckled

'But you seem so confident! I assumed…..'

'You assumed I do this a lot, with other women?'

'Well…'

'No I'm not the best with words, but I don't know, I guess it's okay to talk about this stuff'

'Of course. You listened to me and I'm usually considered a bore' she chuckled

'I don't think you are' he assured as they continued walking 'So this New fused Vegito. Is he strong?' Cain asked

'I guess. Two joined sayings sharing a body. It must be powerful, And don't get me wrong, I admire him. He's a force of nature. That's the Goku in him, the Vegeta side is well….'

'He's a little pushy?' Cain asked

'No... more like He's determined. Unstoppable or…?'

'Cocky.' Cain joked as she laughed. Vegito could hear and was getting annoyed

'Sometimes yes. But he has a good reason, could kick your ass' she grinned

'I don't doubt it. You know, My dad used to say... we like people for their qualities but love them for their defects.' He said as chichi half-smiles and sips her coffee.

'Good choice of words'

'And the way you've described how he acts when your around eachother well, the logical answer is he loves you' Cain said as she sighed and slowly nodded

'I know.' She said. This made Vegito listen in more carefully

'What about you?' he asked as she shrugged her shoulders

'I Don't know. Really. I grew up with Goku (sort of) and I've missed him too, but now, every time I see him, I get confused. Hardly a day goes by he's not in my mind. Even now, I feel he's here…' she said as Vegito looked down at her and he wanted was to be near her, make her stop this date and they can be together.

'But?'

'But….. He made a choice and that Choice is Bulma. I see the way they are together and their happy so its better this way. Gives me a chance to broaden my horizons a little, and…. You know go on more dates' she blushed

'Oh so you want more dates huh?' He grinned as she blushed

'Well I … I wouldn't complain if you were to ask' she giggled. They continued walking down the street as Vegito was close on their trail holding his power level down in the hopes chichi wouldn't sense his presence. He flies over and lands neatly on the adjacent roof. He looks down at Cain and Chichi as Cain offers her cream and sugar with her coffee

'No cream and sugar, moron. She takes it black.' Vegito huffed as he watched him offer her and she politely shakes her head no thanks.

'Toldya.' Trying to feel superior, He chuckles.

'Well its late now. I guess we better call it a night.' She smiled

'Oh right well I better make this fast' Cain said as he reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a ticket for a theatre show 'I don't know if you're into that sorta thing but a friend of mine said the show was great, and girls liked it and….'

'You bought the tickets already? What would you have done if this date went badly?' Chichi asked as he looked surprised

'I knew it wouldn't. I knew this date would be amazing and I was right'

'Why do you say that?'

'Because I like you' he answered simply. Chichi could see he was genuine with his answer. And it felt nice and flattering. She looked at the ticket and smiled and looked up at him

'Then I guess I'll see you at the show' she smiled keeping the ticket. Vegito looked annoyed!

'I'll pick you up from the café again. Maybe we can grab some food before, by the way, how do you get home from here if you live in the mountains?' he asked

'Oh don't worry I have my ways. But don't let me keep you' she smiled

'Well I want you to let me know when you get home safe'

'Ugh! You sound like my dad' she laughed as She walked him to his car

'What can I say? I care' he winked

'You really do' she smiled as he turned on the engine and looked at her

'I'll call you' he smiled as she nodded

'Defiantly' she waved goodbye as he took off. Chichi sighed happily. She went on a date! And it was amazing! She never thought it could be so nice to do something as simple as dinner and a walk. She walked down the street and suddenly stops in her tracks. Something was suspicious, she looked around, the street was quiet. But it just made her hearing twice on point. She then heard breathing. Heavy breathing. She turned to her left and saw a figure in the shadows and recognized the silhouette all too well and she frowned

'Oh For crying out loud!' she huffed and started walking away with Vegito on her trail

'Had fun tonight?' he asked

'Did Bulma tell you about this?'

'No your posse walked in and told her all about it, maybe next time you should tell them to keep their volumes down if they don't want me to hear anything'

'And maybe you should learn not to eavesdrop. You might learn this thing called privacy' she huffed

'Why would you go on a date chichi?' he asked, that tone sounded defiantly like Goku's she knew his sub conscience was reaching out.

'Because…. I just wanted to try it out. I mean, its not a crime is it?' she asked

'I just have a bad feeling about it…..'

'Vegito we literally just had pasta and went for a walk, hardly a weekend in Venice was it?' she huffed, get frustrated 'Besides, why do I have to explain myself to you, you are with Bulma anyway, I don't question you when you take her out' she huffed

'I don't think its wrong to be concerned about my wife'

'But I'm not your wife. I'm nobody's now because my husband isn't here'

'He is here chi. You just need to see him' he said as he made her look in his eyes as she stared for a moment then turned away

'I can't do this Vegito. I need to move on, just like you have with Bulma.' She sighed

'And you're gonna with him?' he huffed

'Oh my god we had one date!' She argued

'And now he's taking you to another'

'Yes! And you know what? I'm gonna go and I'm gonna enjoy myself. And if you so much as think about following me on that date or any other future date I could potentially go on, I will not hesitate to tell Bulma what you've been up to. So do yourself a favour and go home to your women. Now if you'll excuse me…NIMBUS!' She called out as the yellow cloud zoomed down before as she took off heading home ready for some well needed shut eye. Vegito stood there annoyed, and angry at chichi. How could she do this? Why now!? He felt the Goku in him become very protective and frustrated. In all his marriage he figured he knew Chichi well, she would yell at him. He'd make her feel better and they'd be together. But the way she was being now. It was out of the ordinary, had his absence really been that bad of an affect on her? He was angry at himself! He just wanted to be Goku for a few minutes and tell her he wanted her! But then he couldn't Vegeta was there, and he wasn't complaining, that part of him had his woman! Vegito held is head in frustration, feeling 2 strong beings having it out! He punched the wall in anger, leaving a massive, punched hole in the building. He then took off heading towards the Antarctic, ready to take his anger out of the iced-up lands.

….

The next day, Chichi arrived at the café and opened up as normal. Videl was working today as was Launch. Through the midmorning, 18 came in with Marron and order herself a cappuccino and marron a strawberry milkshake. She left Marron to Colour quietly in her book as she turned to Chi.

'Sooooooo how did it go?' 18 grinned

'Wait wait wait do not start without me!' Launch squealed as chi blushed

'You had all morning to ask me' chi chuckled

'Yeah but I was waiting on her!' Launch pointed to 18

'So come on spill!'

'It was great! We went to this nice Italian place and then a little walk, got to know one another a little and that was it.'

'No kiss?' Launch asked

'No of course not! Its way too early for that' chichi giggled

'Well from what I saw of him yesterday, he was hot!' 18 smirked

'Oh defiantly. By the way, we got a little confession for you…'

'Yeah we didn't want to tell you last night since it was your date and all'

'What is it?' Chichi asked

'Well we kinda may have mentioned your date to Bulma. And we're not sure if Vegito was gonna find out or not' Launch confessed. Chichi could have told them about what happened last night, Vegito following her on her date and their discussion afterwards. But it might stir up trouble between her and Bulma and it was not she needed. She looked to her friends and smiled

'Oh that's okay. There's no harm in that. I'm sure Vegito would understand.' She smiled as 18 and Launch looked at one another

'You sure?' 18 asked

'Defiantly' she nodded.

'So…. Are you seeing Cain again?' Launch asked as chichi grabbed the ticket out of her bag to show them

'His invited me to go and watch this show. Seems pretty good from what I researched'

'I've heard of this! I've been begging Tien to take me'

'Seems like a second date is in the bag. Let's hope it goes just as well as the last' 18 winked making chichi blush. She was excited to see Cain again. And she already knew she wanted more dates with him. It enticed her to see him more.

At the theatre in her case, Date number 2. Chichi was enchanted by the magic of the theatre, Cain was watching but couldn't help but glance at chichi either. To him, she was the most beautiful woman he had met since his wife. She was charming, interesting, exciting and like him, had been hurt, and thought she could help him move on with his life. He knew he'd be pushing it a little if he tried to do anything drastic, but something he hoped harmless could be the start, he reached his hand to hold hers as chichi glanced away form the stage and looked at her hand in his, she looked him in the eye as he smiled. She didn't know what her feeling was but it felt warm and fuzzy. She grasped her hand in his as if telling him it was okay. He smiled and turned his attention back to the show as she did. Yep, she felt this could go somewhere.
