Staring out over the second-year students as they departed the combat arena the blond-haired combat instructor gripped her riding crop tightly, sighing through her nose Glynda's eyes darted towards the windows looking out over the courtyard, she still couldn't shake this feeling of unease churning inside her ever since her encounter with Amber earlier that morning.
While she couldn't be certain of the reasons behind her unexpected visit to the administration's block, she was all but certain it had something to do with that vagrant they'd allowed into the academies walls. Stepping away from the observation deck she made her way back to her desk retrieving her scroll from the top draw, extending it into its pad form Glynda typed away at the interface pulling up the settings for Beacons CCTV Camera systems, in a matter of seconds all eyes across the school were hers to control.
Glynda studied the camera feeds in front of her with a keen eye, flicking through one after another the worry inside of her growing with each passing moment. 'Where is he?' Was the unanswered question, yet despite the sheer number of cameras that looked over Beacon, the object of their brotherhood growing suspicion seemed to be able to avoid all of them.
Magic most likely.
She'd already witnessed him demonstrate a variety of abilities, some she'd recognized from her early training with Amber and others that even Ozpin only seemed vaguely aware of, so an ability or spell that allowed him to traverse the academy unnoticed wasn't that far out of the realm of possibility, as infuriating as the thought of him having almost full rain across the academy might have been.
At the very least Amber and Miss Volkihar were among those accounted for, the latter having just finished her improvised lecture to a group of first years, she'd be having words with Miranda about her spur of the moment escapades, abandoning her class was bad enough, but she had specifically placed miss Volkihar under her care so as to keep the majority of the younger woman time occupied.
Miranda Peach was notorious for running her previous T.A's ragged, though in this case, she had hoped mouse Faunus usual antics would play in their favor, and yet despite her own suspicions towards the young woman's true intentions at the academy, when left to her own devices Serana had performed her duties rather admirably, even after the students had departed she'd remained to sort through the student's creations, lending credence to Ozpins belief towards her innocence.
Though the truth behind her brother's actions at the academy still remained an enigma, one she more than intended to find out before it might be too late.
Narrowing her eyes slightly Glynda closed the window for the Schools Camera network and began swiping through some of her own personal application menus, soon enough her eyes rested on a solitary camera icon, tapping the application her screen turned black for a few moments before being filled with four black and white camera feeds, all live and all being streamed directly to her personal scroll.
The first gave a small birds-eye view of the interior of the dorm Mikael had been staying in since his arrival, the one to its right mirrored the first, with the only differences between the two being the various novelties Amber had purchased during her time in Vale. Beneath that Glynda watched the Fall Maiden leading her own class of third years through some Aura exercises, the fourth and final feed displayed the object of her growing aggravation own classroom, empty, for now at least.
Was it an unspeakable breach of privacy?
Maybe so, but it was also a necessary one after recent events.
That man was a danger.
One that had managed to worm his way into the good graces of one of the four Maidens, for what reasons she didn't know. All they had at this moment was a flash of light, a portal and the seemingly unwavering silence of those involved, none of which alluded to anything good.
She recognized this, Qrow recognized it and she was certain Ozpin did as well but seemed unwilling to take steps to mitigate the possibility of any further incidents involving the students. And while she may not be looked upon favorably if evidence of her actions were to ever come to light, it was a necessary step to ensure there would not be a repeat of what happened to miss Rose, so long as she had anything to say about it.
Sighing to herself Glynda moved to close the feed and return to her duties but paused at the sudden movement near the top right-hand corner of the feed, her eyes shifted and immediately zeroed in on the hooded archer that just entered the classroom, she felt a mix of relief and suspicion at final catching sight of him, he moved towards the desk pulling a small book from his satchel as he went, the quality of the camera feed leaving it and its contents undiscernible.
She watched him take a seat behind the oak desk, he set the book down in front of him and reach down to one of the lower draws, his body blocking her view of its contents much to her displeasure, he rose up a few moments later turning his attention back towards the book a few sheets of paper and pen in hand he turned to one of the later pages and started reading.
Judging by the slight bobbing of his head he seemed to mutter something from the book before jotting it down in his own notes. Glynda studied the scene carefully, it was the first time she'd seen the item and from what she could tell it seemed rather novel in appearance, yet from the amount of attention it garnered from the man she could tell it was different from any of the others in his collection.
'A spell book?' She wondered to herself, it certainly fell in line with what she'd overheard from Ambers mutterings earlier that morning, she wouldn't pretend to understand the ins and outs of the arcane but going by what she'd seen from both the maidens and Ozpin compared to Mikael's own abilities, it was obvious there were certain differences in their practice.
Perhaps that was the purpose of his work, he planned to teach her how to wield his worlds magic and these notes might very well be him translating the book's contents into instructions for different spells and incantations that he wanted her to practice, if so then what exactly was he trying to teach her, was the magic of his world even compatible with their own?.
Either way, it was still a lead on what he'd been up to on the Academy grounds. Something that deserved investigation, and while she doubted she'd be able to get her hands on that book without his notice, the notes he'd seemed to have made about its content might have been a different story. Glynda was broken from her musing when Mikael rose from his desk slipping the book beneath his cloak, he seemed to speak with someone off-camera for a few-
...Miss Xiao Long!?
The deputy headmistresses eyes widened slightly as one of her more troublesome students stepped into view, despite the grainy footage she could just make out the look of confliction across her face as she idly played with a stray strand of her hair, Glynda's eyes narrowed at the display her emerald gaze shifting from her student and back towards Mikael.
To her knowledge, Miss Xiao Long was supposed to be attending a class with Bartholomew, while normally she'd have taken the girl to task on her actions at a later date, she was instead focused on trying to ascertain the reason behind this impromptu rendezvous. Her mind supplied a number of different situations that caused her grip to tighten around her scroll.
Glynda forced down the urge to move, to rush from her classroom and down the hall and confront that vagrant before he managed to sink his hooks further into one of those girls, instead, steeling her resolve she focused back on the screen as their meeting played out before her eyes.

"Hey Professor S, you got a minute." Mikael glanced up from the journal towards the double door of his classroom, his eyes landing on the violet-eyed girl making her way down the steps towards the edge of the combat arena. The usually confident young woman stood at the edge of the arena glancing back between him and the book in front of him, before chuckling softly she asked, "Is this a bad time?"
Mikael raised an eyebrow and flipped the journal closed, rising to his feet he pulled the book into the darkness of his cloak slipping it into his satchel. "No, you just caught me in the middle of some research." He replied, eyeing Yang curiously "Forgive me, but I was under the impression you and the rest of your team would be joining Bartholomew for the latter part of your morning lessons?"
"Yeah... yeah, heh, I guess this is going to count as one of the longest bathroom breaks in history." Yang trailed off pulling her mane of blond hair in front of her and brushing it in what seemed to be a comforting manner as she made her way around the edge of an arena toward him. "I was just kinda hoping I could talk to your real quick about well... everything really." She sighed her previous confidence fading, she half expected him to dismiss her and send her off back to class, but to her surprise, he gestured to the chair across from him.
Yang moved instinctively, crossing the remaining distance between them she dropped down into the chair, sitting just a little straighter than she usually would even in the presence of a professor, her eyes darting to the corners of the room behind him, searching for what exactly, she wasn't all that sure. Although definitely something tentacle related if Ruby description of that thing had been accurate.
"Yang" Her gaze shifted back to the Professor, he looked back at her reassuringly. "Take a breath, your safe here." Bobbing her head slightly Yang took a small breath in and out, before leaning back into the chair allowing herself to relax a little, he was the expert in all this magic and demon bullshit after all.
"Yeah... sorry prof, everyone's been pretty on edge lately and..." Her shoulder shook slightly the faintest hints of a smile graced the young woman features "Sorry, I...I'm rambling it's just... it's been a crazy couple of weeks you know?" Yang sighed dragging her hand down her face, allowing the mask she'd put up around her little sis these last couple of weeks to finally fall away.
"I do" Mikael nodded his gaze softening, she looked drained, both mentally and physically her teammates likely sharing her state, there was scarce little he'd ever be able to do to make up for what he'd brought upon these girls, but that didn't mean he wouldn't work to see the incident with miss Rose was the first and last encounter these girls had with anything related to the Daedra. "Take all the time you need."
"Thanks." Yang whispered her head lolling back against the chair lightly, starting up at the ceiling she took a few breaths at first to steady herself, lavender eyes tracing the edges of the tiles in the roof as she pulled her thoughts together, closing her eyes her face slowly settle into a look of calm determination "This is probably going to sound crazy to you" She began, tilting her head back towards the Dragonborn she locked eyes with him. "But I want to help, whatever it is, whatever you're doing to fight him, to stop him from... doing his whole mind-bending shit on Ruby again." Yang rapped her knuckles down on the oak desk "I want to help; I need to help."
"Yang-" She knew that tone and she didn't like it, not here, not now at least.
"No." The blond brawler cut him off, her eyes flashing red for a brief moment. "I'm done sitting on my hands anymore wondering if something going to happen, wondering if when I wake up tomorrow morning, Ruby, my little sister, might just be poof, gone." She leaned forwards resting her hands on the desk between them "So I'm going to be a part of whatever it is you've got going on here, Mr. Dragon." Whatever that might have been, even if she was just as an extra pair of hands he could use to cart around stuff, at least then she could say she was actually doing something about this instead of walking around all day pretending everything was normal.
Mikael stared back at her in silence, he knew that look, the same one he'd seen on Serana a few times over the years when he'd tried to keep her out of some of his more perilous journeys. He could refuse her right now, though he doubted she'd accept it, she'd likely ambush him in the corridor later that day, except this time he had a feeling her request, would quickly become more of a demand with the threat of a thorough beating tacked on to the end if he refused her a second time.
... she didn't even realize the depth of the pit she was trying to throw herself into.
Yang shifted slightly in her chair as the silence between them ticked on, her previous bravado fading, if only slightly. She knew what she was asking for was big, hell she'd spent most of the morning playing this conversation over and over again inside her head, thinking of everything she could say to convince him to let her in on whatever the plan was for dealing with all of this. "I know it's dangerous but... just give me a chance to prove I can be useful."
"No" Mikael sighed, pulling his hood and cowl down so they could speak to her face to face. "If I do he'll kill you, you and the rest of your team just to get to your sister, believe me, I've seen it before." The blond brawler froze, the sheer certainty behind his words making any retort she might have had, die an ugly death. "You and your teammates went unharmed that night because he thought you were beneath his notice." If Mora thought for even a second those girls might have been a threat to him -and having them in such a vulnerable state as they were at the time- he'd have done away with them without a second thought, they were alive today because he perceived them as harmless.
What she and her teams had been doing up until now was already enough. But if he let them be a further part of this, Mora's perception would change and they would become an obstacle between him and his prize, and beyond Ruby's own abilities, the four had little means of combatting him directly.
"I'm not doubting you or your team's abilities in battle." Mikael tried to assure her "You've trained for most of your lives to be the warriors that shall guard mankind in the years to come, but this, this beyond what any Huntsmen or Huntress has ever faced in their lifetime" The Grimm were tangible creatures, even the strongest of them could be slain, but a Daedric lord? Even if by some Miracle the four of them fought him and managed to destroy his physical form, he would just reform elsewhere, and the cycle would begin again.
Yang stared down into her lap, her hands slowly clenching into fists, he was right. She knew it, her teammates knew it, but still... "I'm just sick of being so useless." For as long as she could remember, she'd been by Ruby's side, teaching her, watching over her, even raising her during her families darkest time, now her little sister was in danger; only this time she couldn't threaten the one responsible so they'd back off or better yet settle the matter with her fist like she normally would, instead, she was forced to sit back and watch as her little sister spent most of her days looking over her shoulder for a monster they had no hope of beating.
"You've been far from it actually." Mikael replied, offering his best reassuring smile to the young woman. "What you've been doing up until now has been more than enough, because of you and your teammate's efforts I've been able to focus on some more, personal projects." Yang looked up at him curiously.
"What kind of projects?" She inquired.
"The kind that will endure old slime eye won't be able to set foot within Beacons grounds again, not without making himself known to the entire campus." Mikael informed her, Yang nodding along slowly with his words, her body slackening in what could only be relief.
Yang laughed softly "So she's safe."
"On the academy grounds, yes." Mikael replied tapping a finger on his desk as he glanced back towards the small stack of papers behind him, the thought of what his lady had asked of him that morning pushing its way to the front of his mind. "Outside, on the other hand, is a different story. I'm already working on something to remedy that but in the meantime...I'd like to ask something of you." Yang raised an eyebrow in response.
"About what?" Yang replied eyeing the Nightingale quizzically.
"Would you have any issues with me training Ruby to use her eyes?"
Yang blinked once then twice, before snapping out of her stupor and began waving her hands out in front of her. "Whoa, Whoa, whoa, hold on a minute, what happened to all that talk about us staying under the radar? Isn't you telling me you want to train Ruby to use her eye-things pretty much the opposite of all that?"
"Miss Rose is the exception Yang" Mikael replied sadly "Unlike you, she has caught Mora's eye and does not have the luxury of being able to pass beneath his notice as you and your teammates do."
Yang scowled in response, she supposed that made sense but that didn't mean she liked it." Okay but, why are you asking me, shouldn't Ruby be the one you're talking about this with?" Rising up out of her seat Yang gestured back to herself. "I mean I'm not the one with the whole ancient bloodline and magic eye lasers or whatever." As cool as that might have been.
"Maybe so, but you're also on a team together on top of being her family, you have a right to know what's going on ahead of time and I of any grievances you may have towards my offer." He'd intended to have this conversation with all four of them later that afternoon but seeing as the closest person to Ruby in the academy had just barged into his classroom with a small list of demands, now seemed like the appropriate time.
"I mean..." Yang trailed off pacing back and forth in front of the desk in clear frustration, muttering to herself." Just drop one bombshell after another on a girl why don't you." after a few seconds Yang stopped and turned back towards Mikael crossing her arms over her chest "Alright, If you trained her would that help deal with the whole tentacle head situation, I mean could she actually use them to protect herself if he decided to show up again?" If he was going to give her a say in all this then she wanted to know as much as she could before she made a decision.
"From my understanding yes." Okay, so that was something to help her lean towards the yes option. "However-"
'Of course, there's a but, why is there always a but in these conversations!' Yang lamented
"-if I do teach her how to control it, and should she ever be forced to use it, it will draw a great many eyes." Mikael stressed an unmistakable look of contempt flashing in his eyes as some rather foul memories made themselves known. "Know that I speak from experience when I say, some of them may not be too fond of having someone like her appearing all the sudden."
Yang quirked an eyebrow "What are you saying?"
"Do you recall the story I told you of the silver-eyed warriors?" Mikael turned his head to the side peering out the classroom window, and down at the city of Vale off in the distance. "Don't you think it strange, that individuals with such power seem to be so few in number?" Mikael pressed on "That there seem to be no accounts of their efforts in recorded history, despite their prowess against the Grimm, almost as if someone has worked to see their existence never came to light."
A grim form of realization began to dawn on the blond brawler "Wait, wait, wait... are you saying that someone's been what, hunting them."
The Nightingale turned to look back at her. "Power can be a dangerous thing, for both its wielder and those around them." Mikael replied. "Some see them as a beacon that they might rally behind, others a threat that must be destroyed." There'd been more than a few individuals over the years who'd tried- and more than often failed- to slide a knife between his ribs, the Thalmor, the Molag Tong... Varys Evander just to name a few.
Yang turned away, cupping her face as she stared down into the combat area below, so now not only did they have to worry about some dark god coming after her little sister but that there might be people out there who were... who were hunting people with silver eyes.
A stray, damning thought began to worm its way to the front of her mind 'Wait...had that been why?'
No, no, no, there was no way, that couldn't have been what happened to her...but it, it made sense... she was Supper Mom, Huntress Supreme, no Grimm could have ever hoped to take her on and come out on top, then... her last mission.
She could still remember watching her leave, she looked so confident, so sure of herself, with a promise to read to her and Ruby the night she got back, and now... and now she was gone. She gripped her arms tightly her shoulders beginning to quake.
Was that why she never came home, is that why she lost her mom?
Because she had silver eyes?
Because someone thought she was a threat?
An obstacle standing between them and some grand goal?
So, they'd tracked her down... and killed her for it.
And if they found out about her, would they come after Ruby as well?
"Yang." A hand coated in a dull green light rested on her shoulder, tearing her from her thoughts and back to reality. He regretted having to use a calm spell on her, but she seemed to be growing more uneasy by the second. "It's alright." She stilled under his touch a warmth spreading through her body soothing the feeling of dread that had been welling up inside her, a shuddering breath left her as she quickly blinked away the tears that had begun to form in the corners of her eyes. She glanced back to him over her shoulder, the look of worry and concern he wore helping to settle her nerves.
"I'm okay" She whispered back, steadying herself she then asked. "...What would you do if you're right and people came after her?" She needed to know if she was going to be able to be okay with any of this, she needed to know he would look out for her little sister.
"They would die before they had the chance to lay a finger on her." Mikael replied smoothly as if addressing the weather outside, and yet his tone was cold as ice, his words holding a sense of finality that honestly shocked her a little.
It took her a moment to remember that despite what he may seem, he wasn't like any of the teachers she'd had in the past, he wasn't a Huntsmen.
While he hadn't gone into much detail about his 'profession' back on his world, the best she could assume was that he was some kind of Ranger or Mercenary, it showed in how he moved, how he fought and how he taught them during class. On the first week after initiation, each member of the class had been called up one after another for a spar with the prof and she could say with absolute certainty he'd wiped the floor with everyone, even Pyrrha had probably only lasted a few minutes longer than the rest.
He hadn't held back, pulling out every dirty trick in the book just for them, and once everything was said and done and a few of the more uppity member of their year had been thoroughly humiliated did he decide to address them, there'd been complaints, even a few people calling him out on the spars, the words 'cowardly' and 'dishonorable' had been thrown around a lot that afternoon and his response had been short and straight to the point.
'Honor has its place, be that in a sanctioned duel or in the competitive circuit, but honor dies the second you walk beyond the kingdom's walls. Out there, all that matters is survival, and those you face in the wilds be they man or Grimm will give everything they have, use every little trick at their disposal to overcome you, so you had best learn to do the same.' He knew what it was like to be in a real fight, the kind where there were no rules to protect you, where the next move you make might be the difference between life and death.
He was a killer.
That much was plain to see but right now... how many or who he'd killed in the past didn't matter all that much to her, just the fact he'd be willing to do it again for Ruby.
Somehow that knowledge was more comforting than it had any right to be. "Alright..."
"Thank you." Mikael replied
"But." Yang quickly added raising a finger towards the Nightingale. "I want to be there for the first couple of lessons, so I can see how all this is going to go." A second finger rose beside the first "Secondly if it starts getting too much for her or it starts to look like it's backfiring on her in any way, we call it there, no ifs or buts about it." He'd said it himself he was putting most of this together as he went, so who's to say there weren't any drawbacks from Ruby learning how to use her eyes, learning how to protect herself was good and all, but not if that power came at the cost of her health.
Yang's eyes flared red as she fixed him with the most intimidating glare she could muster. "You agree to that, then you're not going to hear any complaints from me or the others." She said whipping her head back towards the doorway "So, we got a deal?"
Mikael nodded "Deal"
"So, when were you planning on doing this?" Yang asked
"This afternoon." Mikael answered
Yang nodded "I'll talk to the others and see if they'll stick around after class"
"Again, you have my thanks." Stepping back around his desk Mikael quickly pulled some paper and pen from one of the draws "Here." he said hastily writing out a small note to Bartholomew, before holding it out to the blond brawler "As far as Bartholomew needs to be concerned there was an issue with the arenas aura gauges this morning, and I enlisted your aid in re-calibrating them for this afternoons combat lessons."
Yang took the note examining it for a few seconds before glancing back up at him. "Thanks for hearing me out and... for all of this." She said
"Think nothing of it" Mikael replied before nodding back towards the door "You should hurry back before he comes to find you himself."

Glynda grip tightened on the edge of her scroll as she watched her student depart, Mikael returning to his desk and continued with the book. Glynda narrowed her eyes down at the feed closing down the camera application Glynda quickly swiped through to her contact details turning on her heels she began marching towards the double doors leading out into the hallway, the dial tone of her call accompanying her along the way, just as she reached the doors the person on the other end finally answered.
"Kind of in the middle of something here." Qrow 'greeted' her, normally she might have reprimanded him for such a response but given the situation now was hardly the time.
"Do you have eyes of your niece and her team?" It was a pointless question she knew; he'd been acting as their self-appointed guardian for most if not all morning but the quicker they got this out of the way the better. "What is Miss Roses condition."
"She's fine." Qrow replied
"And...Miss Xiao Long?" She inquired
"Bathroom by the look of it, why?" He replied in just as bored a tone as the first time
"We may need to move ahead of schedule... it appears Miss Xiao Long has been compromised." That certainly garnered a reaction
"Whoa, Whoa, Whoa! The hell is all of this coming from?" Qrow demanded his words laced with venom. "If you think for a second she'd do anything to hurt Ruby then the stress has finally started to get to you. "She could understand his disbelief towards the accusation, he had known miss Xiao Long since she was born, so the very thought she might have willingly turned on her younger sister must have been so incomprehensible, that such an accusation could only be false.
A small part of her wanted to agree, though she couldn't deny the strange activity that had gone on between the two of them was damning, to say the least, and combined with what they'd already witnessed so far, it painted a rather grim picture of what had been going on beneath their notice.
"I saw them together Qrow" Glynda replied as she stepped out into the hallway, glancing down the corridor in the direction of Arena B, before heading off in the opposite direction.
"I'm not sure whether it may have been of her own free will just yet." She interrupted before Qrow could push the argument any further, Qrow's sudden case of memory loss and irrational behavior on the day of Miss Volkihar's arrival already proved their 'guests' had access to some far more worrying abilities than they'd originally expected. "The two arrived at Combat Arena B minutes apart from one another, your niece seemed quite distant upon arrival and seemed to become more agitated as the conversation continued, then she was suddenly very calm, unnaturally so."
She'd already had her suspicions when the usually over the top young woman she'd come to see day in and day out had been replaced by the meek, nervous girl that had walked into that room, what fueled her suspicions, however, was when he'd touched her and then as if by the drop of a hat, she immediately regained her usual vigor and zeal. "They spoke for some time, unfortunately, the video lacks audio but from the look of it she seemed to be passing on information to him, he gave something to her before she left, instructions of some kind but I couldn't tell what was on it, however, she's moved with purpose since then."
"Where is she?" He asked
"I can see her now" Glynda replied glancing out the window overlooking the grounds below, along with the long main of golden blond hair making its way across the gardens back towards its owners class. "It looks as though she's heading back to class."
"Okay..." Qrow trailed off "Let me have a look at the video, I need to see this for myself."
"Qrow" She tried to warn him
"Glynda" He replied back
The blond combat instructor sighed "I'll forward you the footage, just... please, don't do anything rash." Typing away at her scroll she sent off the recording, the line went quiet for a few moments as her colleague viewed its contents, only after a long quiet walk out of the building and into the courtyard did the line reconnect and a low string of curses greet her ears "Qrow?"
"That son of a..." Glynda sighed pinching the bridge of her nose as an audible crash echoed through the call, perhaps she should have waited until they had the chance to speak in person if only to save herself the time of cleaning up after his outbursts. "As if I wasn't the only person who's head those two had to screw with." He growled in clear frustration.
"Qrow, control yourself." She reprimanded him trying her best to steer the conversation back to the matter at hand. "I know this is more than hard for you, but our priority right now should be ensuring the safety of Miss Rose and the rest of her teammates, if we apprehend him now what we have at the moment would be circumstantial at best, their testimonies may be the key to ending this."
"...Right" He relented a long sigh echoing down the line. "Been wanting to push things along for a while now, but I would have liked it a whole lot better without this crap hanging over our heads." That they could both agree on, however, it would seem such an ideal situation was far out of their reach at the moment.
"I'm on my way to inform the headmaster now, he'll be needed once we are ready to confront him." Not even the headmaster would be able to deny the reality of the situation, confrontation would be inevitable and while Mikael was the youngest fighter out of them, she wouldn't deny the power and skill he'd demonstrated during his time with them, she was confident she and Qrow would be a match for him in close combat, but the headmaster was likely their best hope at overcoming his arcane abilities.
"What about Volkihar and Amber?"
Glynda paused in thought, glancing across the courtyard towards the west campus she could just glimpse their respective buildings peeking out over one another in the distance. "Barring the incident between the two of you and Mr. Salmons own reaction to her arrival, I don't believe miss Volkihar is as involved as we first believed her to be, as for Amber... I can't say." If their conflict became public she was uncertain how she might react, or whose side she'd join should she decide to intervene.
"Great" Qrow sighed "Well whether she's involved or not, from what I can tell Volkihar's not just going to sit by and watch if we decide to go after her brother." They were close that much was obvious, enough so that she wouldn't hesitate to jump to his defense. He wouldn't fault her for looking out for her family, but from his own experience... some people were already too far gone. "We start something she'll get involved."
"I can have Peter and Bartholomew on standby to intercept Amber if she tries to intervene, and Miranda should be able to keep miss Volkihar far from the conflict should things get out of hand." If the intervention led to open conflict she was confident in her colleague's abilities to halt any outside interference.
"If so tell 'em to be careful around Volkihar, she's a tricky bitch." He'd had the first-hand experience of dancing on her string to know just what she was capable of if you underestimated her. "If Peach lets her guard down around her she won't know what's happened until it's all over."
Glynda nodded along slowly "Noted." While the thought of them turning the school into a battleground was the last thing any of them wanted, they still needed to prepare for every eventuality, there weren't only the students to think of but the other civilian faculty across the campus, if in the event conflict erupted between them they would need every advantage they could have to end things before they could be caught in the crossfire. "I suggest you make contact with Miss Rose and her team before Miss Xiao Long can enact whatever instructions she has been given."
/
"Miss Xiao Long" Yang winced as all eyes in the class turned back towards her, glancing down at Profess- doctor Oobleck his back to the classroom as he dart from one end of the blackboard to the other the chalk in his hand, ground-down to the nub in a matter of seconds, snapping the textbook closed in his opposite hand he discarded the chalk and spun towards her darting across the class almost as quickly as Ruby might with her semblance he arrived at the bottom of the stairs watching her as she made her way down to the second row. "So glad that you could join us this morning, I trust whatever matters kept you so preoccupied has been settled?"
"Uhh, yeah here." Yang hastily dug through her pockets pulling out the note from professor S and passing it on to Doctor -The more she remembered to call him that, the less chance there was of him going off on a tangent to correct her on it in the future- Oobleck, the man accepted the note his eyes gliding across its contents in a matter of seconds before nodding towards her.
"I see." He said adjusting his glasses slightly, tucking the note into his breast pocket " Please take your seat miss Xiao Long, while your absence may be excused this once you have much to catch up on, now where was I!" Doctor Oobleck turned and darted across the classroom back towards the board, a small gust of wind left in his wake.
Maneuvering her way down the aisle towards her team, Yang plopped herself down between the resident ice queen and her baby sister. "You certainly took your time?" Weiss noted from her right, as she jotted down line after line of the professor words in her notebook, yet as studious as she was even she'd admit to having trouble keeping up with their eccentric professor.
"I... needed a minute with professor S." Weiss pen came to a halt, her sky blue shifting towards her teammate questioningly and she was not alone her little sister and partner regarding her in a similar fashion. Now wasn't the time to go into detail about it, however, not with pro- Doctor Oobleck on watch "Long story short, that slimy fuck isn't going to be able to set foot on campus." She whispered, her tone turning venomous at the mention of the Daedric lord, before taking a softer turn as she turned her head towards her little sister. "And Professor S want to talk to you this afternoon Rubes" And for some added reassurance to her more suspicious teammates she quickly added. "He said it's cool if the rest of us want to tag along."
"What's does he want?" Blake asked her tone while still managing to sound monotone held the smallest hint of hostility, they were still working things out on that level, but at least she'd managed to get her partner to stop glaring at the Prof through Combat Class.
Yang flicked her head towards Ruby tapping her cheek just below her right eye with two fingers earning a surprised and somewhat intrigued look in Ruby's case from the rest of her team "I was surprised at first as well." Yang whispered, doing her best to look like she was paying attention to the lecture just in case Oobleck caught sight of them." I figured bringing that stuff up again would only be counterproductive to everything he's asked us to do so far, but he seems to think it's worth you begin able to defend yourself in case something happens again, and I can't help but agree."
Her little sister nodded along slowly, she wouldn't deny she'd been more than curious about her eye...lasers, power, thingies? Well, whatever they were and after what she went through during her time in Apocrypha she'd be more than willing to learn how they worked if it meant she'd never had to go through something like that again. "When does he want to talk to us, is he going to send us a message or..." Ruby trailed off
"This afternoon, after combat class." It was the last class of the day, meaning most teams would be on their way back to their dorms right after either to rest up or get changed and head out for a night in Vale, so she doubted there'd be anyone around to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"What about Jaune and the others?" Ruby asked
"We can head back to the dorms during lunch and talk things over" Weiss replied to the red-clad reaper, glancing down at her scroll beneath the desk she typed out a quick message to Pyrrha, the ping of a scroll echoed a few rows behind them followed by a few muffled whispers. After a few minutes her own scroll buzzed a new box of text appearing in the chat between them, Weiss nodded back to her teammates " Pyrrha said they'll wait for us outside of class."
Yang nodded back, that was one problem solved at least. From then on class went on just about how she expected, with Professor Oobleck zipping back and forth in front of the board a new paragraph on the Faunus right revolution replacing the last and another stick of chalk reduced to dust while she and probably a majority of the room tried and failed to keep up with him, about half an hour later the bell rang, and they were free to go.
"Glad that's over." There was only so much you could listen to about a bunch of Racist old farts from 60 years ago before you started to lose interest.
"It wasn't that bad." Ruby replied throwing her book bag over her shoulder the four teens made their way up the stairs towards the exit. "At least we didn't have another pop quiz like last week."
"Still, I wouldn't mind if he slowed down from time to time." Blake added glancing through her own notes with a small, disgruntled frown, while she'd managed to keep a decent record of the topics their eccentric professor had gone through for most of the class, there were still a few times she'd struggled to keep up.
Shaking her head slightly she slid her notes back into her bag, she'd need to go through a few textbooks later tonight if she wanted to fill in the blanks.
"Preaching to the choir" Yang sighed, glancing down at the few meagre notes she'd managed to collect through the latter half of the class, before snapping her notebook shut. "Hey Ice Queen-
"Yes, you can borrow my notes." Weiss interrupted before Yang could finish, the blond brawler blinked once before smiling down at her teammate.
"Aww, thanks Weiss" Yang smirked, at least now she wouldn't have to worry about falling behind because of her impromptu chat with the prof. Passing through the double doors into the hallway she spotted Jaune waving to them from down the hall to their left, alongside the rest of JNPR. They all looked a little nervous, and if she were being honest, she couldn't blame them, the last time they'd been in a situation like this, it turned out her little sister had been abducted by a demon and their professor was some world hopping wizard.
Yeah, that kind of stuff tended to completely blow everything you thought you knew about the world out of the water, and here they were about to add to all that, well at least this time they had some good news to share with the others, she was sure they'd all sleep just a little bit easier tonight knowing Beacon was a safe haven from that monster.
"Jeeze, Barty must have really gone all out on you kids." Yang and Ruby ground to a halt, leaving Blake and Weiss to walk ahead a few steps before realizing their partners were absent, turning back, they found their teammates focused on an if they were being honest rather ragged looking, red-eyed man -a huntsmen judging by the sword hilt poking out from behind his tattered cape- making his way down the opposite end of the hall towards the two.
"It's gotta be whatever he's lugging around in that thermos." He smirked shaking his head lightly in mirth "But whatever that stuff is he's gulping down, it ain't coffee." He said flicking his head towards Professor Oobleck's classroom as he passed.
Coming to a halt in front of the two girls, he flashed them his signature smirk. "Hope you kids haven't been causing too much trouble, don't need any stories getting back to Signal that make me and your old man look bad."
Before either could begin to wonder who this man was, or ask about his apparent connection to their teammates, their leader had already leapt forward and latched herself onto his arm like a barnacle, her face twisted in glee, her older sister wearing a similar expression.
"Uncle Qrow!"
AN: Things are coming to a head at Beacon, fueled by misinformation and circumstance our resident huntsmen are edging closer to uncovering the truth behind what happened between Ruby and Mikael that night, though the outcome may not be what they initially expected.
