Sunrise Sunset

Chapter 5

About a week after Alice had the vision of Edward and Bella, something else happened. Hermione and Bella were standing in the parking lot at the school. The two of them were talking, when out of nowhere they were nearly crushed by a van that had lost its tread on the ice. Suddenly out of nowhere, Edward was there, stopping the van.

Both girls sustained only minor injuries. Hermione let the incident go as a freak occurrence, and she was glad to do so. She thanked him for helping; but Bella just would not let the matter go. The girls were taken to the hospital and patched up. Carlisle was concerned about the bump on Hermione's head. But she claimed she was fine; Bella has a sprained wrist and a small bump on the head as well. Hermione, however, was the one who spoke about the accident to the police. She remembered all of Bella's rantings and decided that it was to outlandish and if they ousted Edward then that would not be good.

"We were standing, and suddenly the van was coming towards us. Edward saved us and got us out of the way just in time; though we did sustain some injuries as your ca see." Hermione said in a firm manned and smiled.

When the officer asked Bella if she would like to add anything to the report, she nodded her head no. "It's all a little fuzzy, I just remember the van and being scared," she said knowing that anything she thought to add would only raise questions. She decided it would be best to wait and confront him later.

Hermione knew something about the Cullen's that she did not before, they were not entirely human. If it had not been for Edward, they would be minced meat. There was no way that she was going to let it change her mind about them. She was not going to tell Bella either. Instead she was going to talk to Carlisle about it at her next appointment.

It was at that moment of decision that Alice had a vision:

"How is everything?" Carlisle asked looking at her intently, "Remember anything?"

"No," she said with a smile, "But I did discover something interesting about your family."

"Oh?" Carlisle asked, tensing a little.

"You're not entirely human, are you?" she asked looking at Carlisle with a sweet look, "It's ok, your secret is safe with me. But can you tell me about it?"

"Come over for dinner and we'll explain," Carlisle said, "I really must ask you not to tell a soul."

"I promise," She said, Carlisle half expected a magical surge to happen as they'd just said the words to trigger a magical oath; however, noting happened. Carlisle was a tad disappointed, maybe she really was magic-less for good?

Alice quickly snapped back to herself. "What did you see?" Carlisle asked immediately.

"Hermione knows," Alice said, "she promises to keep the secret, but she would like an explanation."

"Anything else?" Carlisle asked.

"No, not really," Alice said, "you seemed a bit concerned but I don' think it was because she asked for an explanation."

Carlisle sighed in relief, personally he felt bad keeping secrets from her. Kingly trusted him to keep her safe; but how could he do that by keeping secrets from her. Time would only tell if she needed their protection or not. He was leaning more towards would, as it seemed that her cousin was going to be getting closer to the Cullen's

The accident caused lots of questions in Bella's mind. She knew that Edward stopped the van from killing them. That he hadn't pulled them out of the way. There was no way that he could have reached them in time, he was three cars over. She was going to talk to Edward. She did not feel she should confide in Hermione about it though. She had already been clear that she didn't care about what their secrets were, and she probably already know.

She was worried what would happen if Hermione's memory returned, would she go away again? Would she stay anyway? Though there seemed not to be any signs of her memory returning the question still begged to be asked. Bella longed to have someone to talk to about it. Maybe Edward would bet that person. Though she could not let her cousins secret slip unless he already knew. She was sure that Carlisle knew, the way he was keeping her close, almost like he was keeping an eye on her. "normal" doctors would not do that, at-least no Doctor she had ever seen. No, Dr. Cullen had to know what was going on with Hermione, perhaps she could talk to him about it.

"I have to stop worrying about her," Bella said to herself, "but I just can't help it."

The moment Edward had seen her by his car he knew she wanted to talk. He had been dodging her for days, it seemed today was the day. He sighed she would not let this go until he let her confront him with what she knew. Hell, even altering her memory had not kept her off his trail for very long.

"Hi," she said as he drew close to her, "can we talk?"

"What is there to talk about?" he asked curiously, knowing full well what she was referring to.

"I'm sure you know what I want to talk about," she said, trying not to let her annoyance show.

"Not here," he said moving around the other side of the car, "get in,"

"Hold on," Bella said walking over to her truck," I'll be home later," and she handed Hermione the keys before walking back and getting into Edward's car.

Hermione stared at the keys for a second, "anyone know how to drive?" she asked humorously holding the keys that Bella gave her.

Alice and Rosalie asked quietly before Alice agreed to drive Bella's truck and Rosalie followed in her car.

"She sure leaves you into the oddest situations," Rosalie said with a laugh, Hermione quickly agreed before saying "I hope this doesn't become a pattern."

Edward drove into a secluded area, not far from the Cullen house. They walked down a path deeper into the woods before stopping at a log.

"What do you want to talk about?" Edward asked sitting down on the log, careful not to sit to hard.

"I've been putting it all together like a puzzle in my mind." she said pacing back in forth in front of where he was sitting, "The way you saved my cousin and I the other week, how your entire family is absent from school on sunny days, how you act when I'm around, like you can't handle being around me. I know what you are."

"Say it," Edward said standing, suddenly Bella found her space being invaded by this beautiful man in front of her.

"Vampire," she said without backing away or flinching as his cold skin touched hers.

"Will you trust me?" he asked holding his hand out to her.

She debated for a moment, before putting her hand into his. He pulled her so she was standing on the log before turning around, "Grab on," he said, when she had a good firm hold, he said, "Hold on tight," before taking off into a run.

Bella was in awe as the world rushed around her, she had never seen anything like this before. Then as quickly as it started the world started to slow, before they stopped in a clearing, before gently sitting him down on the ground.

"I want to show you something," he said stepping into the sunlight.

Bella watched in confusion as he stepped into a bright ray of sunlight. Suddenly his entire body sparkled like there were a thousand diamonds embedded of his skin.

She walked towards him, almost in a trance, "Your beautiful," she said.

"I'm a monster," Edward said.

Bella stopped in her tracks, what he said was true, "You hunt humans?"

"No, " he said with what would be a sigh, if vampires could breath. "My family and I are vegetarians of sorts, we only feed on animals. There are only a few of us who do."

"Then you're not a monster," Bella said.

"Are you going to tell Hermione?" he asked,

"No," Bella said, "if I know her she's already figured it out, and is trying to figure out a way to tell your family she knows."

"Yet she hasn't talked about her concerns," Edward said curiously, "Isn't that a bit odd?"

"Hermione is a private person, she doesn't confide in people much, that one thing losing her memory hasn't changed." Bella said sadly.

"You could confide in her," Edward said sadly.

"Some things are better left unsaid," she replied not trying to be morose but trying to relay a point without saying it.

"Your a little young to be so cynical don't you think?" he said teasingly.

"That depends," Bella said, "how old are you?"

"17," he said.

The conversation continued like this much of the afternoon.

Charlie returned home from work around 6:30 that evening. There was a heavenly smell coming from the kitchen when he stepped in, Alice and Rosalie Cullen were sitting at the counter while Hermione made the salad for whatever was still in the oven. There was a cake sitting on the counter waiting to be cut.

"What can I do to help girls?" Charlie asked in cheerful surprise.

"Go and wash up," Hermione said waving him off, "It'll be ready very soon."

As Charlie went upstairs to change, Bella walked in through the front door and into the kitchen.

"Oh, good your back," Hermione said looking up, "Help me set the table?"

"Sure," Bella said happily, "Is dad home yet?"

"Yup," Hermione said making a popping.

Rosalie and Alice said their goodbyes leaving Bella and Hermione to their dinner.

At the Cullen house that evening, the whole family sat in the living room, they were debating what would happen next. Carlisle wondered if he should reveal Hermione's background to the rest of the family. He knew how close the girls were becoming, would telling them her secret ruin things? There was no way to tell really. How would they act when they found out Hermione has magic, but she was cursed to forget about it? From the stories Kingly told him, she was a bright and talented young lady.

A/N: I know it is a bit short, forgive me. I tried to make it longer but alas this is all there is for now. I apologize for taking so long to update. I have been a bit busy, with work and life and other problems that seem to crop up out of the blue. I am also working on research for an original story, that I plan to publish, so there is that too.

P.S. I do not own Harry Potter or Twilight.
