Sunrise Sunset

Last time three visiting vampires set their sights on Bella.

Chapter 10

" So," Hermione said breaking the silence, "what's going on?"

"What makes you think there is something going on?" Alice asked in her usually happy manner.

"I'm a lot smarter than Bella," Hermione said quietly so only Alice could hear her, "you don't have to pretend with me."

"Once we get home, we will tell you and Bella what is up. There has been a development," Alice said in a vague tone that clearly said that she was leaving something out.

"Alright," Hermione said tentatively, but letting it go for the moment. She sighed inward; she knew something was wrong she could just tell. The negative energy that Alice was letting off was palpable.

"Thank you," Alice said with a sigh, or what sounded like one. Hermione was amazed at her; she was so wonderful to be around. How long had it taken her to get the sigh pitch perfect?

"You alright Hermione?" Alice asked pulling the keys from the ignition.

"Yes," Hermione said waving her hand, giving her a smile before turning and getting out of the car. After going into the house and getting settled in the living room. "So, what's going on?" Hermione said sternly like a mother grilling her child.

When no one answered she said in a low voice, trying to contain her anger, "what happened that is so bad that you couldn't tell me when you obviously have told Bella before me?"

"I only told Bella, because she was going out to Seattle with Jessica and Angela, I needed an excuse to hang around, she caught me in the mall and made me tell her straight away. It was not meant in any way to hurt you by not telling you. I just had to be sure she was safe while she was out," Edward said grimacing at how she had just assumed that they only told her as an afterthought.

"I'm sorry for assuming the worst," she said sincerely, "won't you tell me now then?"

"There are other vampires in forks," Edward said, "they were in the woods behind where we were playing baseball the other night when you and Bella came with us, we think."

"and what does that mean?" Hermione asked concerned, "I don't understand."

"Alice had a vision that night after I took you girls home," Edward said, before making a swallowing sound, "apparently they got not only a good view of you both but they also could smell you."

"Oh no," Hermione said gripping the cushion, "they want to eat us, don't they? That's why you had to make sure that Bella was going to be safe when she went to Seattle. But wouldn't they know I was home by myself all day and tried to get me while I was alone?" But I called them, and none of them had answered their phones. Her thought was interrupted by Edwards voice.

"They don't want to eat you, just Bella," Edward said answering her own internal questions.

"And do you know why they are only after her?" Hermione asked, "does it have something to do with her being your singer?"

"No, people smell different based on their pheromones, you smell flowery and sweet, and you don't really appeal to them as a food source, more like a bouquet of flowers and fruit; Bella on the other hand is more attractive to them as she smells like prey."

"What are we going to do?" Hermione asked concerned, "what can I do?"

"Be on the lookout for anyone who you don't see normally in town," Edward said, "we don't need to sleep so one of us will be outside your house at night until we leave. We'd like you to stick with us during the day if you can."

"Alright," Hermione said, "is Bella aware of the plan?"

After much discussion it was decided that even though Hermione wasn't a target that both girls would spend the afternoons and most weekends with no less than two Cullen family members with them even if they were just staying at the Cullen's home or their own.

Hermione was tired, the talk about keeping a close eye on Bella and herself were both bazar yet comforting. She felt somewhere deep down she was remembering this feeling. She grabbed her dream journal and wrote a note to herself about it. She laid in her bed and contemplated what was going on. She closed her eyes and thought about that night when her and Bella watched the Cullen's play Baseball. She remembered feeling that someone was watching them that night, she saw herself turning to look behind them into the woods. She thought she saw eyes looking back at them, but she thought for sure it was her imagination.

Sleep eluded her for about thirty minutes before she dropped off to sleep. Though she was sure she remembered something, no revealing dreams came, unless you counted dreams she had about Jacob. Delicious thoughts that she was denying to herself about Jacob were haunting her dreams.

Sunday passed with ease, Rosalie and Alice stopped over in the morning. After breakfast they went for a walk just to get out of the house for a little while. Then doubled back after about ten minutes. Neither of Rosalie nor Alice sensed any other vampires in the vicinity. Alice left to go home to see jasper after Edward stopped over to see Bella around dinner time.

Around 9 in the evening, Edward and Rosalie left to go home and the girls finished cleaning up the dishes and getting ready for bed. Not that they were going to bed per say, Hermione planned to do some light reading in her room for school tomorrow. And Bella was going to open her bedroom to see if Edward was sitting in the tree outside her window. Sometimes they would talk until late before she would get sleepy and must go to bed.

That night, she did not get to talk to Edward, he was no where to be found. Perhaps he was trying to stay hidden, maybe they were following the Cullen's around as well. After taking a quick peek outside, she quickly closed the window before getting into bed for the night. Oh well, she thought to herself, it is probably better to not see him and talk to him while he is trying to keep me safe. She tossed and she turned in her bed before she finally got comfortable. She drifted off to sleep, with a picture of Edward swimming around in her mind.

A/N: well there you have it another chapter. Thank you for reading, next in the story will have one of our girls running into a rogue vampire. And we may have an appearance of a large black dog that sparks to mind a certain k9 pal from Harry Potter (possible spoiler for the next chapter or two.)
