Chapter 12
Thursday morning dawned and everything felt wrong. Hermione swore to herself as she sat up to turn her alarm off. Her head was pounding, her eyes felt like they were going to expel from her head. The weather
Bella was up and rearing to get out of the house, it was raining cats and dogs outside. It was going to be a dreary day, but then again, she was used to it. She walked into the kitchen expecting Hermione to be pulling the eggs and bacon from the fridge to start breakfast; but when Bella walked into the kitchen Hermione was not there. She is probably still getting ready, Bella thought to herself.
Bella walked back up the stairs, and knocked on Hermione's door, after knocking twice, and there was still no answer, she opened the door and peeked inside. To Bella's surprise the room was dark, the blinds pulled shut, the alarm clock laid upside down on the floor and Hermione was holding her pillow over her eyes so that no light would enter.
"Hermione?" Bella said lightly walking into the room and closing the door to a crack behind her. "Hermione are you alright?" Bella was kneeling next to the bed.
"NO," she cried rolling onto her side and peaking out from behind the pillow. She let out a cry of pain before hiding her eyes from the sliver of light coming from the door.
"I'll let Charlie know your sick," Bella whispered to her cousin, "I'll call Alice and let her know your sick today."
"Thank you," Hermione said sniffing before going back to laying flat on her back and tried to will the terrible pain in her head to go away.
Bella backed out the room as quickly and quietly as she could, she made it halfway down the stairs when her cell phone rang, "Hi Alice, I was just getting ready to call you." Bella said.
"Hermione won't be at school today, she isn't feeling well, she has a very bad migraine I think," Bella said fiddling with her keys,
"I am outside your door right now," Alice replied.
Bella hung up the phone as she opened the door to see a smiling Alice looking at her from the doorstep.
"Hi," Alice said brightly, "I saw that Hermione wasn't feeling well so I figured that I would give you a ride to school. Carlisle sent some medicine with me when I told him she had a terrible migraine and he said to say he would stop in to check on her in a couple hours."
"I should let her know before we head out," Bella said looking towards the stairs.
"Just leave her a note," Alice said quickly, "She's resting, let me write her a quick note she won't be up for another couple hours."
"How do you know that?" Bella asked dumbfounded.
"I saw it," Alice said smiling, "Be right back!"
Bella watched as the pixie like vampire ran up the stairs quiet as a mouse and as she ran back with a blur.
…
Hermione opened her eyes, she tried to glance at the clock, but it was on the floor of all places. She was not sure how it had landed n the floor, but when she went to sit up her head started to spin. She sat down, cradling her head in her hands. After her head stopped swimming, she noticed a not on her nightstand where her alarm clock used to be.
"Hermione, I am sorry you are not feeling well. Carlisle said that he would stop by later this morning to see how you were doing. If you look in the fridge after you make it down to the kitchen you will find lunch. We hope you feel better and we will see you later this afternoon. Love Alice.
Hermione laughed to herself, when she finally managed to stand up without feeling like she was going to fall over, she picked the alarm up to see that it was close to 11 in the morning. Her head was still pounding but the light was no longer killing her eyes.
She walked down to the kitchen and started the kettle, she needed tea. Then she opened the fridge to see a cup of broth, some rice and pulled chicken in two separate containers. The note read 'I wasn't sure how you took your broth, so I put the chicken and rice to the side. Feel better, Esme.'
Hermione smiled, Esme was such a great mom, even if she was not hers. She still appreciated the sentiment. Charlie would never have been able to make something like this. When she went to sit down at the table to wait for her food to warm up on the stove, the phone rang. She watched closely as the caller id showed the Sheriff's office number light up. She answered it, "Swan Residence, this is Hermione speaking."
"Hermione how are you feeling?" her assumptions were correct it was indeed her uncle.
"A little better," she tried to say, but she ended up having to clear her voice because it came out as a croak.
"You alright there Hermione?" her uncles asked, "it sounds like you have a bit of a frog in your throat."
"Just a small one," she replied smiling into the receiver. "Did you see the food Alice left for you in the Fridge?"
"Yes, I did," she said, "I'm heating it up now actually."
"Once you finish eating, I want you to go back to bed and lay down or relax on the couch," he said in a firm voice.
"don't worry Uncle Charlie," Hermione said reassuringly.
"Carlisle said he would stop by this afternoon just to check in," her uncle continued, "But make sure you keep the door locked."
"I will Uncle Charlie," she said happily, "I will stay put and relax and get better, you go catch the bad guy or what ever it is you do at work."
She listened to her uncle's laughter on the other side of the phone, "Have no worries sweet Hermione, Uncle Charlie is on the case!" they laughed for a moment more before he said goodbye and told her to get back to bed.
After talking to her uncle, she found that she was more tired than she thought that she was. She was about to eat about half of what Esme had sent over. She put the others back in the container and set it back in the fridge. She settled on the couch, and turned on the Television, or course there was not much to watch, she pulled out the tv guide to see what was on that was good to watch. After about twenty minutes of channel surfing, she turned it off and retired back to her room. She was nearly asleep when she heard a noise from Bella's room.
…
Laurent had always considered himself a smart vampire, he had let himself get caught up in Victoria's game. James did not care; he did what ever his mate wanted him too. James should be here instead of him. Everything had been fine until he knocked something off the girl's dresser. He grabbed the first thing out of the drawer that his hand touched and leapt out the window.
"Odd," Hermione said after peaking in the room, there was no one there. The window was open slightly but there did not seem to be anything missing. Hermione headed back to bed and figured she must have imagined it. She crawled back into bed and promptly fell back asleep.
Laurent sighed in relief, he cloaked himself in the shadows, he could just make out the other girl's silhouette in the window. He had gotten out just in time, he mentally sighed and after making sure the coast was clear, and then he made his escape.
N/A: There you have it! was that a satisfactory run in with our rogue vampire? No? Thought not, don't worry! I'm trying to post a chapter a week until the story is done. it doesn't look like i will be going back to work anytime soon, so here we are.
