After weeks of planning, he was going to tell Emily how he felt that night. He knew that he wanted to be with her. He knew that he wanted to be a family with her. Both Jack and Natalia got along so well and now that they are bringing home a baby In just 2 months , just made him realize that this is what he wants. He knew that the team would find out one way or another but he started not to care, he finally started to see what Emily meant months ago.

Although he didn't know how she felt. She was the only person that he couldn't read. He couldn't profile her. It bugged him, because he had no problem reading other people but she was hard to profile. It made him nervous, the idea of her not feeling the same way he did.

He got off of work early and headed to her apartment. It was a Friday night and he knew that Emily would want to come home and just relax. He brought her favorite flowers and some groceries to make for dinner.

The kids were with a babysitter, so they would have sometime to themselves. He had hoped that this night would end the way he imagined in his head.

He was halfway done with dinner when he heard her keys opening the door.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" she said as she sat her keys and purse down on the small table with a smile on her face.

"Hey. I just wanted to surprise you with dinner. I know that this week has been hard for you and you haven't been feeling well. Are you hungry?"

"Always. Thank you, you have no idea how much i appreciate this. So what are you cooking over there?" she walked over towards him

"just one of your favorite meals."

"Well it smells good. Where are the kids?"

"They're with Marissa. "

"Oh. Wow you've really outdone yourself" she said as she leaned against the counter.

"Yeah, I figured you wanted some quiet time and I just wanted to talk to you about something. But later. Right now I want you to relax and let me finish cooking dinner for you."

"Okay?" she said confused. She kicked her shoes off and sat on the couch.

Emily knew that she loved having Aaron around more. He was a great addition but she knew it wouldn't be for long. She knew that at some time this was going to end. Him being around as much as he is now was going to stop one day. She was having his baby and to her, that was the only reason he was there. She knew how she felt but she could never tell him because he couldn't feel the same way.

Aaron looked over at Emily and she looked lost in thought. He knew that she was thinking about something but she would never tell him either. He looked down and stirred the noodles before they burned. He knew that this was a big step to take but he was ready for it. He knew that he wanted. Baby or not, he knew how he felt about her. When the food was finished, he set the table. He looked over at Emily again and she still looked lost in thought. He went over to her and sat next to her on the couch. his presence made her jump out of her thoughts.

"Sorry I didn't mean to scare you, I just wanted to let you know that dinner was finished. "

"Oh thanks. I'll be over in a second." She tried sitting up Aaron watched her as she struggled and offered her a hand. She looked up at him and almost looked defeated. She took his hand and he pulled her up to her feet.

"Thanks."

"You're welcome."

When she sat down at the table, she knew that he had something to tell her. She could feel it in the room. She had this pit in her stomach that things were about to change. She didn't know If it was good or bad but she knew something was up.

"Aaron?" She asked as he scooted in her chair.

"yeah?" She watched him walk around the kitchen table to get to his seat across from her.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure. What's up Em?" he sat in the chair across from her

"What's going on?"

"What do you mean?"

"I know that there is something going on. I can feel it."

"I don't know what your..."

"Aaron please." she said as she cut him off

"Okay. I was going to bring this up later but I wanted to tell you something."

"Okay?" she laid her fork back down on the table.

"Emily. we've known each other for quite some time and I know that I've got to know you more in this last year. You are someone that amazes me everyday. You never to cease to make me laugh. You are the smartest, funniest, and most beautiful woman I've ever laid eyes on and i am so glad that we are on this journey together. I know that we had a rough beginning but we have worked through it and we are bringing life into the world. I keep reliving the night that we met and you are just as beautiful from the day that we met. Emily, my point is, I want to enjoy this with you. I want to be here for you. "

"What are you saying?"

"I want to be a family. For Jack, Natalia, and especially this new baby. He or she deserves that. I want to be with you Emily. I want this, I want us, what do you think?"

"Aaron.."

"Em?"

"i...don't... I don't want you to think that just because we are having a baby means that we are entitled to be with each other. We made a decision Aaron and this is the result of that decision. I just don't want to make you feel like just because were having a baby that you have to be with me"

"Emily. Are you not hearing what I am saying? I want to be with you. I want to raise our child together and not just in separate homes. I have feelings for you and I just wanted to let you know that. "

"I just don't want you to regret us. I don't want you to think that this is what you want now and then later on you'll feel like I've trapped you with this baby."

"Thats not what I'm saying em. I want this. " he dropped his fork on the plate causing a loud sound

"I'm sorry Aaron. I just don't want to know what happens when it doesn't work out. I cant put this baby through that and I certainly can't let Natalia get attached to someone else and then they leave too. She's had enough of that. "

"So that's it then. You have this idea that it wouldn't work. You are so stubborn that you won't even let yourself think about what if it did"

"No, because it wouldn't. Like you said in the beginning, with our jobs, it would never work. Strauss would make you choose between us and the team, I couldn't make you choose. that . "

"I thought you didn't care about our jobs."

"I don't."

"Then.."

"Aaron listen to me. I would quit my job in a heartbeat if I had to. But I know you love our team and you love your job but I couldn't force you to choose."

"But I love you and I love this baby." he said as he reached over and grabbed her hand on the table.

"Im sorry. " was all she said. She looked at him in the eyes and he knew, she didn't want him.

He pulled his hand away and a single tear ran down her face,

She leaned her head down as he pulled his hand back from her side of the table and threw his napkin on the plate. He stood up and headed towards the door. He grabbed his coat and put it on. Grabbed his keys and opened the door. Before he left, he turned around and took one more glance at her. Her head was still down and he could hear her crying.

" Just so you know, I would have left my job if it came down to it. I love my job and i love what we do but I love you and the kids more." and with that, he left.

She sat at the kitchen table crying, her hand hadn't move from where his hand once was. She finally got up and started to clean up the dinner that she never got to eat. She left a small plate on the side, knowing that even though she wasn't hungry, she still should eat something for the baby's sake. She called Marissa and asked if she could drop Jack off at Aaron's apartment. After she agreed, Emily grabbed the plate and a glass of water and headed for her bed. She would wait for Natalia to come home but she was sad. She knew how she felt about him but she was so convinced that he was just telling what she wanted to hear. As soon as she crawled into bed, she ran her hand down her stomach and tears began falling down again.

"I'm sorry baby. I'm trying to do what best for you but I think i just messed things up."

She tried to eat as much as her body would allow. She placed her plate on the nightstand and laid down. She closed her eyes and she could hear her daughter talking from a distance but she just wanted to sleep this night away. She wanted to wake up and this all be a dream. But it wasn't. She was going to wake up and this was all going to be the same.
