Oluwande doesn't see anything wrong with that, except that Jim is in all his stories and Jim doesn't want to hear about the past, when they were someone else, before they understood who they were.

The sea is calm and Ed is waiting for Stede to leave with him, far from piracy, far from the past. Except that Stede doesn't arrive, except that Ed's unlovable, except that it is written that he'll never have anything beautiful and nice in his life. And yet he waits, trying to convince himself that Stede will come and that for once, everything will be fine.
