The second nine weeks of the school year started. Lily and her friends loved it. The weekend before Halloween, there was an announcement on the notice board that there would be activities on the grounds for the students and if the students wanted to, they could dress up in costumes.
Lily had an idea. She got on the mirror with her father and asked her to send her a Harpies quidditch robe in her size, and then asked Mrs. Cutter if she had access to a broom. Mrs. Cutter smiled and nodded. They could even wear their costumes to class where they would be handed candy from both worlds, magical and non-magical.
For Halloween, the school would have classes as normal, but once classes were over, they would have dinner would be available immediately afterwards. Instead of the normal fare, they were having a barbecue. They could eat at anytime from end of classes til about 7 pm. There were may activities to do from: bobbing for apples, sack races, among other things. Then at sunset, there was going to be a bonfire with smores, and fireworks. During the bonfire, would include ghost stories, and talking about lost family members that had gone beyond the veil.
The day of Halloween finally came. Her request from her parents had arrived the day before, and Mrs. Cutter had supplied her with a school broom that morning. Julia had dressed up as Belle from a Disney movie, Renee had dressed up as a healer, Brandy decided to dress up as a soccer player, and Deidra decided to dress up as a Hogwarts student (Lily helped out with this costume by asking her parents to send one of the boys old robes.) Their guy friend, Anthony decided not to dress up as he didn't see the point in dressing up.
After classes, the six of them went down to the courtyard and grabbed a plate of food, and chose a spot. Renee had a camera with her, and wanted a group picture. She got a fellow student to take the picture, and everyone grouped together, with Lily and Anthony in the back since they were the tallest of the six. Renee joined them, but she had to stand on a rock to get above the heads.
After they were done eating, they planned what they wanted to do. They ended up just wondering around the festivities and if they saw something one of them wanted to try, the rest would wait. Lily couldn't help but have fun. In England, her father didn't really celebrate Halloween, and she didn't really blame him. It was a constant reminder of what would've been if Voldemort hadn't attacked that Halloween night. Her mother took them to some festivities but not many. The evening wore down with the promised bonfire and fireworks.
Back in her room, Lily sat down and wrote a lengthy letter to her parents telling her about the Halloween festivities at Ilvermorny. She had put her costume in her trunk and the broom had already been given to Mrs. Cutter to return to the school's recreation room.
The next day, Lily woke up early and took out her mirror. She had asked Renee for a copy of their group picture and a picture of herself in her costume. Renee happily agreed and said that she was going to be sending the pictures to be printed and developed into wizarding pictures that weekend.
Lily said, "Ginny Potter."
Her mother's face soon came on the face of the mirror. Ginny said, "Lily! What time is it there?"
Lily said, "6 am."
Ginny said, "Right. Did you have fun?"
Lily said, "Of course. Did father tell you what I dressed up as?"
Ginny said, "No he did not, even though I begged him to let me see the outfit you wanted."
Lily said, "Its still going to be a surprise. I got a picture of it, thanks to Renee."
Ginny said, "You guys are torturing me! Did you have fun though?"
Lily said, "It was a blast. I sent a letter telling you guys what all we did. How was father doing yesterday?"
Ginny said, "Honestly, he was very subdued. He did go and visit their graves again, which is tradition, but I'm worried. He hasn't been like this in awhile."
Lily nodded. Her father hadn't gotten better over the years. She said, "I wonder if it has anything to do with me leaving home to get my schooling? I'm the first family member in many generations to go abroad for their education if I remember correctly."
Her father had checked out the family grimoire to see if any of his family had in fact gone abroad for their education, but they all had gone to Hogwarts and been sorted into Gryffindor, with a very rare occasional Ravenclaw. He didn't really count the Murphy line as they had just learned about it.
After a few more minutes chatting with her mother, Lily had to get ready for class. Today in Physical education, they were learning how to fly on a broom. Their teacher had decided to work their way up to the magical sports and ways to play them.
Lily followed the teachers instructions despite already knowing how to ride a broom since both her parents and brothers played Quidditch. It was almost a necessity in the Potter family to learn to ride a broomstick at an early age. Lily helped the teacher with her classmates.
The teacher was impressed with Lily's help. After class, Ms. Rumpke said, "Ms. Potter, please stay behind."
Lily gestered to her friends to continue on without her, and she'll be with them in a second. Her friends nodded and walked away.
Ms. Rumpke said, "I'm impressed with your flying prowess, Lily, which really shouldn't surprise me considering who your parents are. Your father was the youngest seeker in a century and your mother was quite a good chaser."
Lily said, "Your point, Ms. Rumpke?"
Ms. Rumpke replied, "I sure hope to see you on the quidditch or quadpot field at some point in your schooling."
Lily said, "Ms. Rumpke, as I have told my classmates, I am not interested in playing quidditch or even whatever quadpot is. I'm really just interested in being here for my academics. I enjoy flying as a pastime and only as that."
Ms. Rumpke sighed. When she had heard that One of Ginny Potter's children would be at Ilvermorny this year, she had hoped that they would want to partake in on of the sports. She said, "Your excused."
Lily ran to her friends who were in the school's courtyard. Why were people constantly trying to get her to do things that her parents were good at? She had hoped coming to the United States, things would change, but she guessed not.
The next couple of weeks leading up to the Thanksgiving break, they were kept busy. Though, Lily found herself wondering the school grounds trying to think about what she wanted to do. She loved it at Ilvermorny and that bullying wasn't tolerated. Ever since Victoria had been expelled, Julia had come out of her shell and was showing her true potential. Lily hadn't noticed any other bullying going on.
A few days before the Thanksgiving break, Renee told her that her mother would meet them at the terminal in Boston where the four of them: Emily, Renee, Lily, and Henry would take a portkey to the family home in Houston. Lily was looking forward to it.
