Sabine awoke to the sound of groaning. Looking over at the chrono, she saw that it was only 0227 in the morning. She turned on the lamp on the nightstand, bringing light to the dark bedroom, turning over to see Ezra with his shirt off stretching his left arm

"I didn't mean to wake you", his groggy voice croaked out. Clearly he was still half-asleep as well.

Momentarily distracted by the sight of her husband's bare torso, Sabine asked, "What's wrong?"

Ezra winced and groaned again. "N-nothing... just my shoulder..."

"What happened?"

"It's nothing, Sabine, really."

She gave him her trademark "Do you really think you can fool me?" face and spun her finger around. Ezra sighed and turned around, letting Sabine see the web-like scar on the back of his left shoulder. She gasped I shock.

"Ezra... what happened?"

"On the Chimera... Thrawn shot me."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Didn't think it mattered. It was so far in the past... I just kinda forgot about it... didn't start hurting again until tonight."

Sabine reached up to the headboard and grabbed her previously-discarded shirt, sliding it onto herself before removing the covers and getting out of bed.

"I'll be right back." She lightly pecked her husband's cheek before walking to the refresher. She came back half a minute later with a jar of salve and a rag.

"This should help."

She got back onto the bed on her knees behind Ezra, scooping up some salve in her fingers and gently beginning to rub it into his scar. He sighed as he felt the pain begin to fade.

"Aaaah... I can't believe it didn't start hurting again for so long..."

"Sometimes old wounds come back to hurt us in ways we don't expect", Sabine mused as she gently massaged his shoulder, "I think we know that all too well, don't we?"

Ezra nodded. Both of them had been hurt by their fair share of old wounds. He closed his eyes and pictured some of these past events. His connection with Maul causing all sorts of pandemonium, Sabine struggling to reunite with her family, her crying on her knees as the ashes of her people blew in the wind around her...

Old wounds coming back in unexpected ways had basically defined half a decade of both their lives, and the next half, they had been separated by an entire galaxy's worth of distance. In the seven months they had been together, it seemed like these wounds had finally begun to heal. The two had confessed their love for each other, returned to Lothal, and shortly thereafter were married with a mixture of their cultures, exchanging golden rings as per Lothalian tradition and speaking the Mandalorian warrior wedding vows. Only in the last two weeks had the pair decided to try having a baby.

All of these recent memories played through Ezra's mind as Sabine's slender fingers gently worked the salve into his scar. Within a few short minutes, the pain was gone, replaced by the warmth of Sabine's hand.

"Feel better?", she asked as she continued rubbing.

"Y-yeah... thank you."

Sabine began to move away, but Ezra reached around and grabbed her wrist.

"I didn't say stop."

The Mandalorian nodded and went back to work, this time massaging both of Ezra's shoulders.

"You alright?", she asked.

"Yeah... just thinking."

"About what?"

"What you said about old wounds... are you... still hurting at all? You can tell me."

Sabine bit her lip as she pondered his question. "Well... I do still think about... some of them... sometimes I have... nightmares."

"About what?"

"Dathomir... the Duchess... Kanan... you..."

"Me?"

"Yeah... sometimes I see that day again. You on the Chimera, us in the dome... instead of being pulled away into hyperspace... it... it explodes..."

Ezra turned his head to face her. "Sabine... I'm sorry."

"It's okay. Just a bad dream. Besides... you're here now."

"Yeah... and I'm not going anywhere... I promise."

Sabine leaned up and kissed him, slipping her tongue past his lips. Without missing a beat, Ezra put his hand on her cheek and did the same. Sabine wrapped her arms around his torso from behind and pulled him backwards onto the bed.

Shortly after, the two of them were spooning, Ezra's hand resting atop Sabine's belly as he cuddled her from behind. He was sure they had done it this time. He kissed his sleeping wife's sweat-covered cheek and whispered his undying love for her into her ear before he fell asleep as well.

It seemed like their old wounds were finally being healed.
