Christmas morning dawned on Potter Manor. Slowly the occupants made their way down to the family parlor to exchange gifts. Lily received various items from her friends and family. Jasmine had gifted her a top-of-the-line Tennis set. Lily raised her eyebrow at that.
Jasmine said, "I'm on the team, and this has been recommended for the past three years as the go to set for the players."
Lily murmured her thanks.
After everyone opened their gifts, they all had breakfast. Harry stood up and said, "Thank you all for coming. I forgot to mention yesterday that even though we are having a traditional English Christmas dinner, we are not having it here. We are having it at my mother-in-law's…" At the Young's faces, Harry continued, "Its something we do every year. We rotate Christmas dinners. This year, Molly is the host and I'm sure she will be eager to meet you all. I've already told her to expect four more for dinner. I do want to warn you that the family is large. My wife Ginny has five older brothers still living and they all have families of their own."
Robert Young chuckled. He said, "Thanks for the reassurances, Harry. I'm sure we will get along great."
The rest of the morning was spent just relaxing. Ginny went ahead to the Burrow to help with the preparation that would be needed for Christmas dinner. Lily wanted to go with her, but Ginny told her to stay behind and keep Heather company.
Albus pulled Harry aside and asked to speak with him. Harry raised an eyebrow at his youngest son but led the way him to the Lord's study. After shutting the door, Harry had Albus sit down in the chair in front of the desk and Harry sat on the edge facing his son. Harry said, "What's going on Albus?"
Albus said, "Well…"
Albus then went to tell his father that he liked boys and girls, but he did currently have a girlfriend, named Becky Morris in Hufflepuff, but he also has feelings for a boy named Warren McCallister in Slytherin with him.
Harry relaxed a bit. He had been concerned that Albus was going to tell him that he got someone pregnant. Harry reached over to his son and put his hand on his knee. He said, "Albus, I do not care about your sexuality. If you are happy and you love each other, you can marry whomever you want. Boy or girl. Your mother is the same way."
Albus relaxed. They rejoined the family.
Soon it was time for them to go to the Burrow for Christmas. Harry turned to Lily and said, "Lily, will you please keep to Heather's side. I believe it would be beneficial to have someone she is familiar with to keep track of all the family that we have."
Lily said, "Of course father."
Soon they were all at the Burrow for Christmas dinner. Molly was ecstatic about the engagement. She welcomed the Young family into her lovely home. The Burrow has undergone a remodel when the Weasley grandkids had started arriving. All the Weasley children pitched in to help expand the kitchen and living room, and even added an addition to make room for a family dining room. They then made the rest of the house look more like a house than a bunch of houses added on top of one another. Molly had been taken aback by the changes but welcomed them.
Heather did stay close to Lily most of the time, but towards the time for dinner, Lily noticed that she was gravitating towards Charlie's adopted son, Andrei. Lily smiled.
Dinner was a noisy affair as everyone chatted and told stories from each of their lives that had happened since they had been together as a family. Then, Uncle Charlie stood up. He said, "I am so pleased to see all my family together this year. Saves some letter writing. Antonia and I have an announcement to make."
Several of the ladies smiled knowingly. Mrs. Weasley squealed with happiness when she noticed that Antonia's hand was on her abdomen.
Charlie said, "Now that we have all recovered from my mother's squeals of delight." Everyone chuckled at that. Everyone remembered their own announcements over the years. "I'm not trying to step on any toes between James and Jasmine's engagement, but in August, Antonia and I will be welcoming two new family members."
Everyone was shocked. Not only were they getting one new Weasley, but three, since Ginny was also pregnant and due in July. George said, "Dibs on teaching them pranks!"
Everyone groaned. Charlie chuckled. He said, "Be kind of hard for you to do that considering we are still going to be living in Romania."
George said, "I'll do it through the mail!"
Everyone chuckled at this.
That evening back at the manor after everyone was put to bed, Harry and Ginny were talking.
Ginny said, "It was so nice to see everyone get along."
Harry smiled. It had been nice to see that the Young and Weasley families did get along. He also had noticed that Heather had taken to Andrei, Antonia's son from her first marriage, whom Charlie had adopted along with his older sister, Adena even though Adena was of age. Antonia's first husband had died on the reserve that the three of them were working at, when a dragon got loose from its pen and went on a rampage before it could be subdued.
Ginny said, "A knut for your thoughts, love?"
Harry laughed. He said, "Just thinking about today. I do have some concerns though. Albus came to me before we left this morning, and gave me some startling news."
Ginny said, "Oh?"
Harry proceeded to tell her what Albus told him that morning. Ginny sighed. She replied, "I kind of knew something like this about him. Call it mothers' intuition or whatever. We shall show our support for him."
Harry nodded.
The next day, Lily was up at her usual time and working on her homework. She had already sent an email to Mrs. Cutter about dropping Ancient Runes and Quidditch. She would keep Tennis in the hopes that it wouldn't also interfere with her studies, and she particularly enjoyed the sport. She was waiting to hear back from Mrs. Cutter on if she could drop it. She knew that George and Gregg would not be happy that she was quitting the team, but Lily had made it known that if she had to, she would drop Quidditch in favor of her schooling.
Halfway through her homework, Heather and Jasmine came into the library and parked themselves at her table. Lily raised an eyebrow at them.
Jasmine said, "I want you to take us to Diagon Alley. I've already spoken with your father and he said as long as your okay with going, we can go."
Lily closed her books. Lily said, "I will go, but I'm going to forewarn you girls, that Diagon Alley is nothing like the malls back in the United States."
Heather said, "That's what everyone has been saying. We want to see if for ourselves and want to get to know you better. After all, we are going to be family."
Jasmine blushed. Lily smiled. She said, "I'm going to go and get changed. You might want to change also. Diagon Alley don't take to people walking around in non-magical clothing. If you don't have any robes with you, I might be able to lend you some. Though Jasmine, you might want to talk to my mother about borrowing some of hers."
They all stood and went to get changed. Lily pulled out one of her Ilvermorny robes. She really should grab some robes from the alley. It was one of the things she liked about the USA. She could go shopping without having the fuss of walking about in robes.
Downstairs, Lily met up with Heather and Jasmine, along with their mother. Lily looked at Lucinda, who replied, "I'm kind of curious about the alley myself."
Lily nodded. They went through the floo, and Lily showed them how to open the portal. They spent the morning and part of the afternoon, shopping. Lily picked up a few books in the bookstore, and at Madam Malkin's, they got some robes.
Lily enjoyed her time with the Young females. The girls wanted some ice cream, so they went to Fortescue's, which was being run by the daughter of the former shop owner who had been killed in the war. As they were talking, Lily looked across at Ollivander's and saw the proprietor looking at her. He caught her eye and waved her over.
Lily excused herself. Inside the wand shop, Lily said, "Mr. Ollivander, how are you doing today?"
Mr. Ollivander said, "Splendid, Lily. I know you were thinking about wand lore as a possible career before. I was just curios if you had thought about it anymore?"
Lily sighed. She replied, "I have. I'm still undecided, sir."
Mr. Ollivander commented, "If you want this summer, come and spend sometime in the shop with me, and we can show you what it takes to make a wand and you can see if you like it that way or not."
"I think I would like that, Mr. Ollivander. I will need to ask my parents first."
Ollivander nodded his understanding, and bid her a good day.
Lily made her way over to Fortescue's and saw that everyone was still deciding what to get. Lily pipped in her opinions. Lily noticed Savannah (Florian's daughter), watching her. Lily gave her order and went to pull out her bank card to pay for everyone's order despite the protests from Lucinda that she should pay for their ice cream, however, Savannah held up her hand. Lily paused.
"No need to pay."
Lily frowned. She thought back to every time that her father brought them to the ice cream parlor. Lily said, "But, we ordered ice cream."
Savannah said, "And you will get your ice cream. Your father revenged my father's death and allowed me to continue the family business. I can never repay him enough. You and your friends are covered today."
Lily sighed. She put her bank card away. She knew there was no use arguing with the proprietor. As they continued walking the alley, window shopping, Lucinda noticed that Lily seemed down.
Back at Potter Manor, Lily and the girls went to their respective rooms. Lucinda went in search of Harry. She didn't find him, but she did find Ginny in her office.
Lucinda said, "Lily was having a good day today until we got to the ice cream parlor."
Ginny looked up with a shocked look on her face as Lucinda went on to tell her what happened at Fortescue's. Ginny said, "We have tried to get Savannah to let us pay, but no matter what we do, she won't let us. I will talk to Lily. Its something that we have to live with."
Lucinda said, "I think Harry being who he is and you being famous in your own right, is why Lily spends most of her time in the USA." Ginny started to object, but Lucinda held up her hand and continued, "Take it from an outsiders viewpoint. Today, she was having a blast being with Jasmine and Heather, being just herself, Lily. However, when someone mentioned what happened with her father, she fell quiet."
Ginny grew pensive. Lucinda left with that in search of her husband. Robert had decided to search out his old friends.
The next day, Ginny found Lily in the library, working. Ginny knew her daughter wasn't happy with her marks from the first part of the school year.
"Are you just going to stand there and stare at me, mother?"
Ginny sighed. She went over to the table that Lily had claimed and sat down across from her. Lily set down her pen that she had been writing with. She glanced around and said, "How much did Lucinda tell you?"
Ginny said, "She told me what happened at the ice cream parlor, that is it other than you guys had fun."
Lily replied, "I…"
Ginny held up her hand and continued, "I don't blame you for being upset about not paying for everyone's ice cream. Had I not known what the situation is with Savannah, I would be upset too. However, that is not why I need to talk to you. I will let your father discuss that with you as its his fault." Lily frowned, wondering what was going on. Ginny continued, "Lucinda gave me a new view on things and her perspective on things between you and why you have been staying in the USA during the holidays most of the time."
Lily looked down. She knew she should have told her parents about her being uncomfortable about being in Britain now that she had experienced a world without her parents fame overshadowing her own accomplishments.
Ginny saw this. She continued, "So, want to talk about it?"
Lily said, "I guess since you know already in a way. I never knew before how much our family was in the limelight until I went to Ilvermorny. Of course, they have heard of you and father. Who in the world hasn't? However, they just don't care. I'm able to be myself without people gawking at me or trying to get to me because of who my parents are. Is it wrong of me to just want that and not have to worry about being hassled?"
Ginny sighed. She replied, "No its not. I just wished you had brought it to us before."
Lily smiled her thanks.
