A/N: So far the Avatar and Dark Avatar are watching each other back as they went into a truce to stop Amon and soon Zakai meet's Mako's Girlfriend Asami for the first time and let's say... there's certain attraction's for each other.
"The Spirit of Competition"
Newsreel
Shiro Shinobi: [Narrating a newsreel.] Love is in the air! Since Avatar Korra has arrived in Republic City she's only had eyes for one fellow: Mako. The feeling seemed mutual until a fateful accident intervened. Now Mako's affections have fallen right into the arms of the beautiful Asami. Will love prove to be Korra's most formidable foe yet?
Shiro Shinobi: And Zakai while he doesn't have a love life and is clearly suffering from sort of awkwardness in finding love will he find it? Or is he doomed to die a lonely man?
(A/N: I had fun on this one. He he he ...)
Pro-bending Arena
As we open up we slowly zooming in aerial shot of the the Pro-bending Arena as it snows.
Pro-bending Practice Room
We cut to a close-up shot of a determined looking Korra handling a water blob. The camera moves back as she splits it in two, and rapidly launches each smaller water bullet in a different direction. Cut to a side-shot of Bolin, who raises his right arm in front of him, an earth disk following the motion and hovering in front of his face. As the water blob Korra launched at him strikes the disk, he is shoved slightly backward by the impact. Cut to a frontal shot of Mako, who moves back and twists around, vaporizing the incoming blob with a fire arc. He immediately retaliates with two fire punches. Cut to an overview shot of the entire gym and the practicing Fire Ferrets. Bolin's earth disk is pulverized by Mako's fire attack. Korra aims another rapid water blast at Mako, who jumps over it, while Bolin launches an earth disk at Korra, forcing her to shield herself with water from a nearby tank. Mako fires a blast at each of his team mates, which both of them block with their respective element. A second fire blast hits Bolin square in the stomach. Cut to a frontal shot as he is flung backward. As he is falling down, he raises and launches a last earth disk. Cut to Korra who directs a water blob away from her, but is knocked back with a grunt as the earth disk plants itself in her stomach. Cut to Mako as Korra's water attack hits him straight in the face, flinging him to the ground several meters from where he was standing. Switch back to the overview shot of the gym as they all sit up and laugh. Cut to a frontal shot of Mako as he stands up and takes off his helmet, resting his left hand on his hip.
Mako: [Smiling.] It's been great having you at so many back-to-back practices, Korra.
Korra: [Upbeat.] Feels good to be back, although [Slightly raises her hand to emphasize her statement; smiling.] Tarrlok isn't too happy about my leave of absence.
Bolin: Hey, you joined the Fire Ferrets before you joined his task force.
Mako: Okay, come on, team huddle time!
The team huddles up, smiling at each other. Soon the door opens to the Gym, and we see Zakai as he is in his casual outfit.
Zakai: [Smileing;Opens his arms in a grand gesture of seeing them together.] How is my Favorite team the Fire Ferrets?
Bolin: All better now that Korra is back on the team.
Zakai: Just what I want to hear.
Mako: It's our first match of the tournament tonight. I know the three of us haven't been a team for very long, but even so, the Fire Ferrets have never been this good. Are we ready?
Korra and Bolin: We're ready!
This caused Zakai to be happy as he sees them going to the tournament.
Zakai: Oh, I forgot to ask but how did you guys get into the tournament?
Soon the practice door opens up and we see a girl that walks into the practice room holding up uniforms as Zakai dosen't know who that is but Korra and Mako and Bolin know who she is.
Asami: [Walks in the practice room with the Future Industries sponsored gear.] Not quite, you'll need these. [Holds up a shirt with the Future Industries logo on it.]
Mako: Hey, Asami.
Asami: Good morning, sweetie.
Korra looks annoyed as Zakai has no idea who she is as this is their first time meeting each other.
Mako: These new uniforms look great!
Asami: You look great, champ!
Zakai: Uh, sorry but who are you?
Bolin: Oh right, you don't know.
Zakai: "Know" what?
Mako then introduces her as he introduces Zakai to his girlfriend.
Mako: Zakai, I want you to meet Asami she helped us get into the tournament.
Soon Asami then raised her hand in front of Zakai as he instinctively shakes it.
Asami: Hi, you must be "Zakai" I heard a lot about you.
Zakai: [Smiles] If it's bad things then [Jokes about it.] yes, it's true.
Asami: [Shocked] What?
Mako: [Clarifying] He's kidding, he's actually been a great support for our team.
Zakai: Sorry I didn't mean to frighten you it's just when you used to work for the Triple Threats Triads you just joke on all things that involve dangerous work.
Asami: [Smiles and comes close to Zakai as he was shocked at how forward she is.] I like danger. Do you have a job right now?
Zakai: Uh, n-no. It's hard to find work for an Ex-Triad Member.
Asami: [Puts her hand on her chin as she is in thought.] Alright it's decided. You ... Can be my bodyguard.
This shocked everyone there even Zakai as he rarely gets surprised by this girl. This girl just offered him a job as a Bodyguard right away.
Mako: [Shocked] What?
Zakai: [Shocked] What?
Mako: Uh, Asami I don't know if that's-
Asami: It's ok. I just want to talk to Zakai while you focus on the match. Ok?
Mako: [Sighs] Ok
Mako and Asami do an 'Eskimo kiss'. Bolin looks with a "Really?" expression, as Zakai had his eyeballs wide open as he had an expression that said 'Seriously?' as he couldn't believe that Mako scored a girl, while Korra shows her disgust, but all three quickly acts normal when Mako turns to them.
Mako: Well, teammates, I'll see you before the match tonight. Asami and I have a lunch date.
Bolin: [Waves at the couple.] Okay, we'll check you guys later, you know, we'll see you when we see ya.
Zakai: I can't believe that Zakai got a girlfriend.
Bolin: Yeah, and all it took for him to meet her was her driving a Moped and nearly getting run over.
Zakai: [Concerned] What? Was Mako Ok? I mean he must be ok now but was he injured before?
Bolin: Oh, he was ok. [Soon he looks over to Korra and immediately put the Charm on her.] Now if you'll excuse me but can you just leave us alone.
Zakai: What? But I- [Bolin Pushed Zakai comically out the Gym and looks back at Korra with happy smile.]
Korra picks up her bag in silence as Bolin slides over.
Bolin: [Slides over to Korra with his hands behind his head.] So, Korra. There they go, here we are, all alone in the gym, just you and me, two alone people. Together. Alone.
Korra: Ah, I gotta head back to the air temple to train with Tenzin. See ya!
Bolin looks disappointed about his failed attempt to pick a date with Korra.
Meanwhile at Zakai Apartment
As Zakai got back home from his bizarre exchange from the Pro Bending Arena as he looks at his apartment and immediately goes to his kitchen and look inside the fridge to find some take out as he smelled it and it smelled nasty, It was like sweaty gym socks with fungus growing on them.
Zakai: Well, this is going in the trash.
As he prepares to through it out, he then is met with knocking on the door as he then opens it as he then sees his Landlady, she was old lady, but she had a huge mole on the side of her face, and she had a mean streak for Zakai.
Old Landlady: Where's the Rent!
Zakai: [Calmly Charming her.] Miss Chou so nice to see you how have you-
Miss Chou: Can it Zakai! You have my money?
Soon Zakai then takes out money from under the mattress as he grimace's that he only has a hundred Yuan.
Miss Chou: Do you have my money?
Zakai: Uh, would 100 Yuan suffice?
She looks at him angrily and sneered at him.
Outside Zakai Apartment
Soon she then kicked Zakai out in the cold as she seemed to run a tight ship at that Apartment and threw out most of his stuff except a coat and grey trench coat and gloves and the clothes on his back. Miss Chou then yells at him why she kicked him out.
Zakai: Miss Chou, why are you doing this?
Miss Chou: It's because your five months behind on Rent!
Zakai: [Apologetic.] And I say I'm sorry I'll-
Miss Chou: [Mocking Zakai.] "Get your money by the end of the month." [Angry] I'm sick and tired of you not paying up and getting a job. You owe me 5,000 Yuan for the rent as is.
Zakai: [Begging.] Miss Chou, please let me stay for just a bit more I swear I will-
Miss Chou: NO! You either pay me now or find somewhere else to live! [Window slamming.]
Well as Zakai sighs that he hasn't been working for a while mostly because he has been on the down low from Equalists and from other Triads, as he would get a job but a lot of Non-Benders hate Benders and mostly fears that an Equalist person will try to nab him and bring him to Amon. While he wouldn.t go down without a fight he couldn't risk himself for Korra as she still hasn't learned Airbending yet.
As Zakai looks to his left across the bay and he sees the Pro Bending Arena and had an idea as he needs a place to stay for a while because one: He doesn't want to go back wearing that White Lotus Outfit again. Two: He told Korra and Tenzin that he was there for a few months and knocked out the real white lotus member as he apologized for it. Three: He hasn't been with Bolin and Mako for the Longest of time and is willing to save their friendship.
The Brothers Home
The scene cuts to the brothers' attic, where Mako is preparing dinner while Bolin is preparing a bath for Pabu and Zakai sitting comfortable on the floor waiting for dinner.
Zakai: Thanks for letting me stay here for the time being you two.
Bolin: Are you kidding? We should be grateful to you! You saved me from Amon and his Equalists, It's the least we can do.
Zakai: Yeah well, someone has to keep an eye on you [He soon helps Bolin with cleaning Pabu.] after all you're a magnet for trouble.
Bolin: [Laughs Dryly] Ha ha...
Pabu protests his owner's act, but Bolin finally manages to dip Pabu into the tub of water, who subsequently rises from it, shaking off water from his body with a look of defeat.
Bolin: Work with me here, Pabu! You wanna look spic and span in your new uniform, don't you? [To Mako and Zakai.] So, what do you two think of Korra, in a "girlfriend" sort of way?
Zakai: Girlfriend? Korra? [Laughs] No way, sorry I don't see Korra as a girlfriend.
Mako: Yeah, she's great! But I think it makes more sense for me to go for Asami.
Zakai: Yeah, I mean Asami is perfect I mean she kind considerate and nice and beautiful and perfect.
Mako then looks at Zakai confused by why he's talking About Asami like that?
Mako: You said she's "perfect" twice?
Zakai: I did?
Bolin: Yeah you did. [Slightly annoyed.] And I was talking about a girlfriend for me! You two leave some ladies for the rest of us!
Mako: I know, that's what I thought you meant.
Zakai: Yeah, me too.
Bolin: Well ...?
Mako: I don't know, Bo. It doesn't seem like a good idea for you to date Korra.
Bolin: You just said she was great two seconds ago.
Mako: Yeah, Korra is a great athlete and the Avatar and stuff, but I don't know if she's really "girlfriend material". She's more like a pal.
Zakai: Yeah, like a sister or ... something ... I don't see her as girlfriend material. I mean I don't understand the concept of someone who falls in love with each other only to be leaving you for someone else or steal all your money and then dump you.
This causes Bolin and Mako and Pabu to look at Zakai really strange as Zakai then looks at them confused.
Zakai: What?
Bolin: Thats oddly specific.
Zakai: I mean, that's what I read in a book somewhere.
Mako: Have you ever been in love?
Zakai: Let me think? No.
Bolin: Don't worry Zakai. When you know it you too will find love.
Zakai: Yeah... I'm not getting relationship advice from you Bolin. I mean have you actually held onto a girl that wasn't a fan?
Bolin: Well no. But this is different, I can tell. You two, you're nuts! Korra and I are perfect for each other: she's strong, I'm strong; she's fun, I'm fun; she's beautiful, I'm gorgeous! Okay, I don't care what you two think, I'm gonna ask Korra out.
Mako: Look, it just isn't smart to date a teammate, especially during the tournament. Keep your head out of the clouds and your priorities straight, okay?
Zakai: Don't care either way, I don't need to have any emotional love to be happy I'm ok just as I am. "Love them and leave them." That is how I roll.
Bolin: Yeah, yeah, I know, gah.
Soon Bolin talks to Pabu as the two ignore him.
Bolin: You know what I'm talking about, Pabu, I'm talking about real love.
Pabu: [Chitters; Pabu looks confused.]
Meanwhile at Air Temple Island
We cut to Air Temple Island. As Korra, Jinora, and Ikki are feeding fruit to ring-tailed lemurs in the snow.
Jinora: So, how's it going with the tall, dreamy firebender boy? You've been spending a lot of time together lately.
Ikki: Oooh, yeah! Tell us all about the magical romance.
Korra: What? [Laughs.] Listen to you two, I-I'm not interested in Mako or any romantic stuff. [Coughs.] Besides he's all into that prissy, beautiful, elegant, rich girl ... but let's just pretend for a second I am interested in him. What would I do?
Jinora: Ooh! I just read a historical saga where the heroine fell in love with the enemy general's son, who's supposed to marry the princess. You should do what she did!
Korra: [Excited.] Tell me!
Jinora: She rode a dragon into battle and burned down the entire country. [Korra begins to frown at the unrealistic idea.] Then she jumped into a volcano. It was so romantic!
Korra: Uhh ...
Ikki: No, no, no! [Speaking rapidly.] The best way to win a boy's heart is to brew a love potion of rainbows and sunsets that makes true lovers sprout wings and fly into a magical castle in the sky, where they get married and eat clouds with spoons and use stars as ice cubes in their moonlight punch. Forever and ever and ever! [Airbends upward in a circular motion out of excitement.]
Korra:The volcano is starting to make more sense to me now.
?: [Laughing]
Soon we see the person laughing was Pema as she seemed to have heard everything from the three.
Korra: [Turns around and sees Pema on the path.] Oh, hey Pema. Uh, how long were you standing there?
Pema: Long enough. But trust me, I know what you're going through. Years ago I was in the exact the same situation, with Tenzin.
Ikki: [Very surprised.] Daddy was in love with someone else before you?
Pema: That's right.
Korra: So what did you do?
Pema: Well, for the longest time, I did nothing. I was so shy and scared of rejection, but watching my soul mate spend his life with the wrong woman became too painful. So I hung my chin out there and I confessed my love to Tenzin. And the rest is history.
Korra, Ikki, and Jinora: Wooow!
Soon Korra looks to the side and in thought as she then had a happy look on her face as she knew what she had to do.
Pro Bending Arena
Soon we cut to the outside of the Arena and then back inside to see everyone cheering for their teams as Zakai is there by Asami as he watches the match with Hiroshi Sato as they get started right away.
Asami: I'm so glad you accepted.
Zakai: Well, when your offered a job for me I assumed you were joking.
Asami: Well, I just wanted to meet you and during recent events my father has asked me to find a bodyguard and you looked like you been a bodyguard before.
Zakai: Uh, yeah, I have done bodyguard before it was mostly for less "legal" means but yeah I can be a professional bodyguard.
Soon we hear the match is underway as Shiro Shinobi then starts to use his microphone to tell everyone it's starting as Zakai and Asami watch intently and content.
Shiro Shinobi: Folks, after a year of waiting the Pro-bending Championship is finally here. Tonight is the first set of matches in our single elimination sixteen team bracket. And I gotta tell ya, these are the most tenacious and talented bending trios this arena has ever seen.
Ring announcer: Introducing our first team, the Future Industries Fire Ferrets! [Cheers by the crowd.] And their opponents, the Red Sands Rabaroos!
The match between the Fire Ferrets and the Rabaroos starts.
Shiro Shinobi: What an explosive opening volley. Both teams quickly recover and unleash a barrage of bending. I am astonished with the level of improvement displayed here by the Fire Ferrets. No wonder the Avatar has been absent from the papers lately. She's obviously had her nose to the grindstone in the gym. The Ferrets advance into Rabaroo territory and are holding nothing back. Nice sprawl there by Mako. Bolin strikes, Ula dodges, and all three Rabaroos are down. The Fire Ferrets easily take round one!
Ring announcer: Round two!
Shiro Shinobi: The Rabaroos are looking for payback and they go straight after Bolin. Korra comes to his defense and water-whacks Umi back into zone two! The Ferrets are on fire tonight and they win round two.
Ring announcer: Round three!
Shiro Shinobi: With the Rabaroos down two rounds they'll need a knockout to win, and with the way the Fire Ferrets are playing I don't see that happening. These Ferrets are working together like a well-oiled bending machine. Bolin passes Adi back into zone two and the Ferrets get the green light to advance. The Rabaroos are just fighting to stay at their feet at this point. Out goes Adi, and Ula, and Umi!
Ring announcer: All three rounds go to the Future Industries Fire Ferrets to win the opening match of the tournament!
Bolin: [The team cheers.] That's what I'm talking about! [To audience.] Thank you, thank you very much! Thank you all you fans!
Meanwhile in the Changing Room
Mako: [Back in the changing area.] Wow, we were really connecting out there in that ring.
Korra: Yeah! You know, I feel like the two of us have been connecting really well out of the ring, too.
Mako: Uh, sure.
Korra: So, I was thinking we should spend some time together.
Mako: Oh, we've been spending lots of time together.
Korra: I mean outside of the gym, and not while searching for kidnapped family members or fighting chi-blockers.
Mako: I don't know. Asami and I have —
Korra: [Abruptly.] Look, I really like you and I think we are meant for each other! [Korra quickly turns around and hides her face with her arm, blushing lightly.]
Mako[Gently.] Korra, I'm really sorry, but I just don't feel the same way about you.
Korra: [Sad.] Forget I ever said anything ...
Then we see Asami, Pabu, and Zakai entered the room as they are happy.
Asami: [Walks into the room with Pabu on her shoulder.] Congratulations, guys! You were so amazing out there. [Kisses Mako on his cheek.]
As Zakai looks at this display of affection he rolls his eyes and looks at Korra as she seemed hurt or emotionally distressed by Mako and Asami as it would seem.
Zakai: Korra? You ok?
Korra: [Sad] I'm fine. Just ... fine.
Soon Mako and Korra look uncomfortably at each other. Korra takes a seat and Bolin takes a seat next to her.
Bolin: So, Korra, I was thinking, you and me, we could get some dinner together, sort of a date situation.
Korra: Oh, that's really sweet, but I don't think so. I don't feel very date-worthy.
Bolin: Are you kidding me? You're the smartest, funniest, toughest, buffest, talentedest, incrediblest girl in the world!
Korra: [Chuckles.] You really feel that way about me?
Bolin: I felt that way since the moment I saw you! Trust me, I know we're gonna have so much fun together.
Korra: [Changing her mind.] You know what? I could use some fun. Okay, sure!
Bolin: Yes! Who's the luckiest guy in the world? Right here, Bolin!
Mako watches while holding Asami, but Asami clings into him and rests her head on his shoulder. Mako still thinks about Korra and Bolin as Zakai also thinks about them as well.
Narook's Seaweed Noodlery
We cut to Cut to Bolin and Korra eating in reasturant called Narook's Seaweed Noodlery as they enjoy each other's company as Naga was outside resting in front of the door.
Bolin: [While slurping on noodles.] So, how do you like it?
Korra: [With a mouthful of noodles too.] Hmm, it's delicious and totally authentic! I didn't realize how much I missed Water Tribe grub.
Bolin: [Happily.] That's great, 'cause this is my favorite joint. See? You love Water Tribe food, I love Water Tribe food, just another reason we are so great together.
Then have a frontal shot of Zakai as we see Zakai was there at another table as well as he seemed to eye on Korra and Bolin as he seemed concerned about their relationship as he ate the food as well.
Meanwhile another table we see a guy with a girl in each arm and some guys with him as he seemed to watch Korra and Bolin eating.
Korra[With noodles in her mouth.] They are good noodles! Hey, who's that creepy guy over there who keeps glaring at us?
Bolin: That's Tahno and the Wolfbats, the reigning champs, three years running. Don't make eye contact.
Korra disobeys and looks straight at him. As Zakai then looks at Tahno as he walks up toward Korra and Bolin, along with his company as Zakai then got his food and relaxed a bit and ate in silence but was ready if things got out of hand.
Bolin: Uh-oh, here he comes. Now don't mess with this guy, he's a nasty dude. [Eats noodles and is quite intimidated by Tahno.]
Tahno: [Taunting.] Well, well, well, if it isn't the Fire Ferrets. Pro-bending's saddest excuse for a team. Tell me, how did a couple of amateurs like you luck your way into the tournament? Especially you, Uh-vatar.
Korra: [Scoffs]
As Zakai was watching this he felt the need to punch Tahno in the face as he then continued taunting Korra and the Fire Ferrets.
Tahno: [Taunting] You know, if you'd like to learn how a real pro bends, I could give you some private lessons.
Korra[Stands up close in front of him, glaring.] You wanna go toe-to-toe with me, pretty boy?
Tahno: Go for it. I'll give you the first shot. [Smirks.]
Bolin: [Whispers.] Korra, don't. He's just trying to bait you. If you hit him, we're out of the tournament.
Soon a fist then went along and hit Tahno in the face as he was punched into the table and then all the wolfbats and girls then try to lift up Tahno as it then started a commotion and most was in shock and Tahno then looked up and noticed it was Zakai as he glare's at them, as he was the one that threw that first punch. The most shocked were Korra and Bolin as he was shocked to see him here.
Bolin: Zakai? What are you doing here?
Zakai: I got hungry and I wanted to try some noodles. But here I find some people that were asking to get hit so I kindly accept that.
As Korra was shocked that Zakai was here but was actually smiling that he was here as Tahno then got back up and was prepared to fight Zakai but then Korra whistles and Naga busts through the window, roaring loudly at Tahno. He falls over, but his friends behind him catch him and they walk away. Zakai, Korra, and Bolin laugh.
Zakai: Ah... Now that was funny.
Bolin: Yeah. I've never seen someone harass Tahno like that. You are one of a kind, Korra.
Korra: Yeah, but when you punched him in the face that was good.
Zakai: Hey... he said throw the first shot. He should've expected that someone would punch him in the face. Especially since you could've handled it but that guy was getting on my nerves for some time now.
Korra: Really? Why is that?
Zakai: let's just say for three years running. They've been using a lot of underhanded tricks in Pro-Bending, [Glares at Tahno and his group.] they are a mockery of what Pro-Bending is about.
Soon Korra and Zakai smile at each other as they seemed to have a general understanding and new found respect for each other.
Zakai: Well I gotta go. See you later Bolin.
Bolin: See ya.
Soon Korra wanted to know what Zakai meant by that.
Korra: What did Zakai meant that "See you later..."
Bolin: Oh, Zakai got kicked out his apartment and so he's staying with us until he finds a new home.
Korra: [Concern] What? I didn't realize that he was kicked out. Is he going to be ok?
Bolin: Yeah, Zakai may be unlucky, and he has his ups and down but he always pulls through he always seemed to land on his feet sometimes.
Korra felt concerned for Zakai but looks away and goes back to the date that the two were having.
At a Diner
Korra and Bolin are drinking cocktails with straws. Bolin burps and is ashamed, but Korra notices this and burps even louder, to which Bolin burps again, louder this time, and Korra burps again yet even louder, and they both start laughing. The couple next to them looks on in horrified disgust even Zakai that didn't go back home actually continued to spy on Korra and Bolin as he was actually laughing at this as he covered his face as to try not to laugh at Korra childish behavior.
At Harmony Tower
The scene changes as the camera pans up from the bottom to the top of the tower and shows Korra and Bolin, along with many other couples, watching the city by night from the top of the tower. Korra really enjoys the view, and Bolin enjoys Korra having a good time. As they still didn't know that Zakai was watching them as he smiles at them but then his smile then turn to sadness as he then leaves and actually go back him as he takes the Elevator he couldn't feel joy in finding a partner in life as he leaves he then bumped into a familiar person as he then immediately apologizes.
Zakai: Oh, I'm sorry I didn't –
Soon he recognized her as Asami as she is by herself without Mako.
Zakai: Asami?
Asami: Oh, I'm sorry about that here let me help you up.
Soon Zakai was then helped up by Asami as he wiped his coat.
Zakai: Thanks. What are you doing here though? I thought you were heading home with Mako?
Asami: I was until we said goodbye as I left him back at the Arena but then I decided to do one quick shopping run before heading home.
Zakai: Really? Well uh, do you ... need any help?
Asami: Oh no it's ok. See you at the Quarter finals.
Zakai: Um yeah see ya.
Quarterfinal's; outside Pro Bending Arena
Soon we see Mako outside as well as Zakai as they are both looking sad for different reasons. Zakai feels left out mostly because everyone has a girlfriend and for some can't find love. Mako reason is more important as to who should he love more Asami or Korra as this triggers a lot of questionable situations to the heart.
Soon Asami comes in as She was riding in a carriage as Mr. Hiroshi Sato was the first to step out and then he raised his hand and led his daughter down and out of the Carriage.
Zakai: There's my job. Hope you guys do well tonight.
Mako: Thanks.
Soon Zakai then opens the door to the Arena as Asami and Hiroshi then follow and he was the last one to enter. As we then see Korra as she walks towards the Arena as Mako then stops her.
Mako: [Slightly mad.] What kind of game are you playing?
Korra: [Confused.] Uh ... Pro-bending? We've got the quarterfinal match.
Mako: No, I mean with Bolin. You've got him all in a tizzy and I know you're only using him to get back at me.
Korra: I am not, we're just having fun together. What do you care, anyway?
Mako: [Defensive of Bolin.] I'm looking out for my little brother. I don't want to see his heart get broken.
Korra: Wait a second ... you're not worried about him, you're jealous! You do have feelings for me!
Mako: What? Jealous? Don't be ridiculous.
Korra: Admit it! You like me.
Mako: No, I'm with Asami.
Korra: Yeah, but when you're with her you're thinking about me, aren't you?
Mako: [Angrily.] Get over yourself!
Korra: [Points to herself.] I'm just being honest.
Mako: You're crazy!
Korra: You're a liar! [They both glare at each other, before storming away.]
Random stranger: Hey Mako-! Oh ... [Mako ignores him, as he and Korra storm into the arena through different doors.]
Inside Pro Bending Arena
Shiro Shinobi: Eight teams have been eliminated and eight advance into the quarter finals, which get underway way tonight. The rookies are about to take on the former and longest-reigning champs, the Boar-q-pines. Youth clashes against experience in a battle for the ages, or rather of the ages. [Bell sounds, indicating the match starts.] Korra dodges and, ooh, slams right into her teammate! Down goes Mako and Bolin and Korra!
Soon Zakai then watched intently as they seemed to have lost their rhythm and is clearly not functioning as a team.
Ring announcer: Round one goes to the Boar-q-pines!
Mako: [To Korra.] You were supposed to defend while I attacked!
Korra: I had an opening so I took it!
Bolin: What is up with you two? All right, whatever, just pull together, guys.
Shiro Shinobi: The Ferrets looking to mount some offense here in round two. Bolin lets fly a flurry of attacks, he's a one-man bending battalion. The Ferrets are having a rough time finding their rhythm tonight, but thanks to Bolin, they narrowly notch round two. Not sure what's eating them, but this is not the same team who took out the Rabaroos.
Ring announcer: Round three is a tie! We go to a tie-breaker to decide the match.
Referee: The Fire Ferrets win the coin toss! [To the Ferrets.] Which element do you choose?
Mako: I got this.
Bolin: I know you usually handle these, but frankly, your head's not in the game. I'm gonna take this one. [Steps forward.] We choose earth.
Shiro Shinobi: [A platform in the middle of the stage raises with Bolin and Chang, the Boar-q-pine earthbender, on it.] Looks like the earthbenders will collide in the tie-breaker face-off. Bolin goes in for the grapple, Chang reverses. Bolin strikes from midair, knocking Chang to the edge of the circle. Another strike from Bolin, and Chang is in the drink!
Ring announcer: The Future Industries Fire Ferrets win their quarterfinal match!
Bolin: [cheers.]
Korra and Mako are relieved that Bolin won the tie-breaker, but look away from each other angrily.
Shiro Shinobi: Oh, that was a close one folks! Youth trumps experience tonight.
Asami: That was amazing! I almost thought they would lose.
Zakai: Yeah...
Zakai was unsure what was going on but from what he saw with Korra and Mako it is clear that they have some issues going on and as a Nosy person that Zakai is he had to know what was going on.
Outside the Arena
We look to find Korra, staring from the balcony in sadness and anger, as Mako walks up to her. But as they don't know Zakai was watching them as to figure out what was going on.
Mako: We need to talk. Look, sometimes you can be so infuriating. But I —
Korra: Save your breath. You've already made it clear how you feel about me.
Little did everyone know was that Bolin had flowers and was planning on giving it to her.
Bolin: Hey Zakai, have you seen Korra?
Zakai: Oh[Points to Mako and Korra at the Balcony.] she's right over there by Mako.
Bolin: Thanks.
As he moves closer we cut back to Mako and Korra.
Mako: No, I haven't. What I'm trying to say is: as much as you drive me crazy, I also think you're pretty amazing.
Korra: So you do like me?
Mako: Yes, but, I like Asami, too. I don't know, things are complicated. I've been feeling really confused and —
Korra interrupts Mako by kissing him on the lips. It surprises him, but he kisses her back, making her blush. When they break the kiss, Korra immediately looks down in shame after having seen something behind Mako. Mako turns around to find Bolin standing there with flowers for Korra. He bursts into tears and runs away, dropping the flowers on the floor.
Mako: Bolin, this isn't what you think! [To Korra, angrily.] Great, look at what you did!
Korra[Insulted.] You're blaming me?
Mako[Furiously.] You kissed me!
Korra[Angrily.] You kissed me back!
Mako raises his fists and growls in frustration, before running after Bolin.
Korra: [To herself, in a sad tone.] Well played, Korra.
As Zakai then just left as it was getting to much drama even for him to have the last word but something inside him felt... hurt. Not because of Bolin being hurt by Korra but by Korra kissing another man Zakai never really expressed much emotions to dating but he can honestly say he feels upset by all this.
In Bolin and Mako Apartment
Soon we see Zakai waking up wearing a sleeveless white shirt and pants as he yawns and noticed it was quiet in the place as he looks around and doesn't see Mako or Bolin as he just sighs and knows that the two didn't make it back home.
Narook's Seaweed Noodlery
Soon we see Narook as he is making noodles as Mako comes in and sees him.
Mako: Morning, Narook. My brother here? [Narook gestures.] Thanks. [Walks over to Bolin, slumped across a table.] Come on. Wake up. Taking you home, bro.
Bolin: [Looks up and sniffs dejectedly.] Don't call me that. You're not my brother! You're a brother betrayer! [Sobs.] The only one I can trust anymore is Zakai and Pabu!
Soon we see seaweed noodles that has a bad presentation of Zakai face in the noodle bowl soup and Pabu eating the "Zakai" noodles in the bowl.
Bolin: [Sobs.] Pabu stop eating Zakai! [Eats Zakai and lays in Bowl.] Nevermind! Pabu I love you [Sobs some more.] Pabu loves me. [Gestures at Pabu, who is lying in a bowl on the table with a big stomach.]
Mako: You're a mess, and we've got the biggest match of our lives tonight. Let's go. [Puts a hand on Bolin's shoulder.]
Bolin: [Slaps away Mako's hand.] No! I'm not going anywhere with you, you traitor! [Angrily points at Mako.]
Mako: Guess we'll have to do this the hard way. [Picks Bolin up and hauls him onto his back.]
Bolin: [Sobbing.] Why?
Mako: Told you dating a teammate was a bad idea.
Bolin: [Sobbing incoherently.] You're a bad idea! Put me down! Put me down!
Pabu flops off the table and slowly follows.
Pro Bending Locker Room
Followed by Korra and her last night's effects affecting everyone she entered the locker room. She looks at Bolin sitting dejectedly on a bench, and walks silently past Mako.
We soon see Zakai still upset by last night events as he looks down at the Fire Ferrets lining up.
We cut to the Ferrets lining up against the Buzzard Wasps.
Shiro Shinobi: You can't find two teams more evenly matched in age, size, and strength than the Fire Ferrets and the Buzzard Wasps. Believe me, I've looked! This should be a pulse-pounding semifinal, folks! [Bell dings and play begins.] The Buzzard Wasps open with a flawlessly executed combo. All three Ferrets take an early visit to zone two. And Mako is knocked all the way back into zone three! The Fire Ferrets have been struggling to stay alive since the opening bell. All three players are totally out of sync tonight. [Bolin gets struck in the stomach with an earth disk.] Ooh, that has got to sting! [Bolin stumbles to the side of the ring, removes his helmet, throws it aside, and vomits.] And Bolin loses his noodles! Literally. [Korra turns around and watches with pity and disgust.] Which reminds me, this match is brought to you by our sponsor, Flamey-O Instant Noodles! Noodliest noodles in the United Republic. [Match continues and Korra is knocked into zone three.] The Buzzard Wasps fly deeper into Ferret territory. And Mako plunges into the pool! Can the Fire Ferrets hold on? The Wasps have the Ferrets backed up to the edge now ... and the Ferrets are bailed out by the bell! They had better pull themselves together for round two, otherwise they can kiss the finals goodbye.
Asami: Ohh, I hope their going to pull through?
As Zakai watched them he immediately is having some trouble watching the game as they are making a lot of mistakes left and right and it was actually starting to sicken him as well.
Zakai: Me too.
Bell dings, second round begins. Mako gets knocked back a zone, and firebends a blast that hits Bolin in the back and knocks him to the ground.
Bolin[Turning to Mako.] Hey! Watch it! [As his back is turned, he is struck by a blast of water and knocked off the edge.]
Shiro Shinobi: The Wasps take advantage of Mako's unforced error and Bolin is in the pool! [Korra gets fancy with her waterbending and gets too carried away.] Ooh, and a blatant hold by the Avatar!
Referee[Blows whistle.] Unnecessary roughness! Move back one zone!
KorraI'll unnecessarily rough you up! [Waterbends a blast at the referee as she heads back, and he grimly pulls out a yellow fan.]
Shiro Shinobi: And the Avatar is slapped with the yellow fan. The Ferrets are their own worst enemy right now. It's just sad to watch. With the Buzzard Wasps leading two rounds to zilch, the Ferrets' only hope of winning is with a knockout.
Zakai: Excuse me Asami.
Soon Zakai then starts to leave the room as Asami looks back before looking forward towards the arena again.
Mako: Well, I guess there's always next year.
Korra: Come on! We still have a chance, even if it is a slim one!
Bolin: The way we're playing, we don't even deserve to be in the finals.
Korra: Look, if we don't pull together and work as a team, we'll never forgive ourselves.
Mako:Let's just get this over with.
Bolin:The sooner, the better.
The three grimly head back to the starting line and the bell dings, signaling the start of round three.
Shiro Shinobi: Bolin's knocked into zone two, followed quickly by his brother! [An earth coin strikes Bolin in the shoulder and he cries out.] And Bolin takes a zinger to the shoulder! Looks like it's a clean hit.
Bolin: Owww!
Mako:Bolin! [Gets hit with a blast of fire and knocked off the edge.]
Shiro Shinobi: Mako's in the drink and out of the match. And Bolin keeps playing with one good arm! I gotta hand it to him, this kid's got grit! But how long can he keep it up? [Bolin gets knocked off the edge with an earth and water combo.] Apparently, not very long. The Ferrets' dream of making it to the finals now rests in the Avatar's hands. But with three on one, I don't like her odds. [Korra dodges the attacks in an attempt to stay in the ring.]
Cut to Bolin, pulling himself painfully out of the pool. He looks up as Mako kneels above him, smiling and offering a hand. Mako pulls Bolin up and steadies him.
Mako: Are you okay? How's your shoulder?
Bolin: Ahh, it's messed up pretty bad. But I think I'll be all right. [Both boys step onto the lift, which begins rising.] Are we gonna be all right?
Mako: Of course we are. We're brothers. We'll get through this mess. I'm sorry.
Bolin: Me too! Girls ...
Mako: Seriously.
?: Never Will understand them.
Soon the two brothers look at Zakai as somehow was behind them as he smiles at them.
Mako: Zakai?
Bolin: What are you doing here?
Zakai: I was going to have a sit down with you two and save yourselves the heartache but it seemed I wasn't needed.
This causes the two to smile at them as the truth then look at the Arena as Korra wasn't doing to bad at fighting three opponents.
Shiro ShinobiWhat an unbelievable effort here by Korra! She's dodging every element the Wasps throw at her! [Korra knocks each of the Wasps into a line.] The Avatar finally gains some ground, but with only ten seconds remaining, it might be too little too late! [Korra angles herself so that the Buzzard Wasps are lined up in front of her, and knocks them out with a single blast of water.] It's the big kibosh! What a knockout!
Zakai: [Jumps in the Air; Excited] YES!
Bolin: [Excited.] Yes! She did it!
Mako: [Also excited.] Yes! Yeah!
Shiro Shinobi: It didn't seem possible, folks, but the Fire Ferrets are headed to the finals!
Bolin: Ha, ha! [As Mako hugs him tightly in celebration.] Shoulder! Shoulder!
Mako: [Dropping him.] Sorry.
Bolin: [As Korra walks up.] That, was pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen.
Zakai: The greatest play ever. Of all time.
Mako: Thanks for not giving up on us. We never would have made it this far without you. I owe you. Big time.
Korra: You're welcome. So ... I know things are confusing right now, but I hope we can still be friends.
Mako: Definitely.
Soon Zakai looks behind him and he had a glare on his face.
Zakai: Jerk alert.
Soon all three look to where Zakai is looking and we see Tahno and his wolf bats team are next.
As Tahno enters last and inhales deeply with an expression of disgust.
Tahno: [Disgusted.] Ooh, oof. You boys smell something in here? Wait, I know what that is; yeah, that's the scent of losers.
Korra: [The Fire Ferrets look at them with hate and disdain.] I hope we see you in the finals. Then we'll know who the losers really are.
Tahno: [To Korra in a sarcastic tone.] Yeah, I'm peeing my pants over here.
Ring announcer: And now, the defending champs, the White Falls Wolfbats!
Korra growls at the White Fall Wolfbats, as Asami runs to Mako and throws her arms around his neck.
Asami: Great job! [To Korra as they both look at her while embracing.] What a comeback, Korra. I've never seen a hat trick like that.
Korra: Thanks! [Slowly approaches the pair.] But, if it hadn't been for you and your father, we wouldn't have had the chance to play. So thank you.
Bolin: Uh, if everyone's done with the little "thank you" party, need some medical attention over here.
Korra: Ooh, let me help! [Places both hands on his shoulder.]
Bolin: [In a angry, yet joking manner.] Owww! Gah! Haven't you hurt me enough, woman?
Korra: Relax, I'm a healer! [Bends some water out of a bucket and puts it over Bolin's shoulder and begins to heal.] I learned from Katara, the best there is.
Bolin: No, no, oh- ooh! That's the stuff!
Korra: Bolin, I'm sorry I hurt your feelings. I didn't mean to let things get so out of hand.
Bolin: Ahh, I'll be all right. But we had fun together, didn't we?
Korra: I had a great time, honestly! You are one of a kind, Bolin.
Bolin: Please, go on. I enjoy praise.
Ring announcer: Your winners, the Wolfbats!
Korra: What? How is it over already?
Shiro Shinobi: With a brutal round one knockout, the defending champs secure their spot in the finals. [Cut to the Mo Ce Mongoose Lizards being helped out of the pool by medics with stretchers. The waterbender on the team even has a large hole in the glass of his helmet.] I hope the Ferrets know a good doctor, 'cause they're gonna need one!
As Close-up on the astonished faces of the three Fire Ferrets and Zakai we see that Zakai is nervous on how they got like that as he looks at the Fire Ferrets worried they will look like that.
Outside the Arena
As Korra was going back to the Docks Zakai then followed her back as they talked about the Final's.
Zakai: Man, here I thought you were going to lose in that last game but now I fear that you will in the final's.
Korra: No we won't. We will win.
Zakai: Yeah but did you see what Tanho and his thugs did to the "Mongoose Lizards?" He cracked their heads, broke their hands and arms and broke their shoulders. I don't want that happen to you.
Korra: Relax we'll beat them.
As soon as Zakai walks some more he then tripped as then Korra watched him fall in the icy water as she then helped him back up and Zakai thanked her with her waterbending.
Zakai: Thanks.
Korra: No problem. [Looks at Zakai and asks him a question.] I'm curious but don't you water bend?
Soon Zakai stops as he sighs and looks back at Korra.
Zakai: You want to know if I can bend other Elements?
Korra: Yes?
Zakai: Yes.
As a demonstration he drying himself as all the water came of as Korra was shocked that he can waterbend well.
Korra: Ok, I must ask how is it possible for you to have multiple bending elements the only one can bend multiple elements is the Avatar.
Zakai: Yeah, and some things are easily lost and forgotten long time ago.
Korra: I'm sorry but can you Firebending as well?
Soon Zakai humor her as he then used Firebending but his flames were violet then normal.
Zakai: Satisfied?
Korra: I don't understand. Zakai how can you bend the four elements?
As Zakai wanted to tell her as he looks at her but looks away as he can't tell that it was Vaatu that allowed him to bend four elements but he didn't want Korra to fear him either so he lied.
Zakai: I've had them since I was a kid. And then some men found me and trained me to control my abilities and when they were done training me I left to come back here and find my family's killer. I joined the oldest and toughest Triads out there and I thought maybe I can make a difference hiding in the shadows and fighting crime wherever happened behind the scenes and then I met you [Gestures to Korra as she takes in his story.] and as you could say the rest is history.
As Korra takes in this information she then has more questions then answers but enough to put together that gives her a serious face as Zakai looks scared.
Zakai: What?
Korra: [Seriousness] Now I know who you are.
Zakai: You do?
As Zakai fears he may have gave Korra to much information he was prepared to attack her and leave as he put his hand behind his back and underneath the deck was water forming into ice as they were pointed and aimed at Korra as he waits her answer.
Korra: Your like me... you're...
Zakai: then sweating beads as he thinks he has been found out but her answer surprised him.
Korra: You're an Avatar like me!
Zakai: [Shocked.] What?
Korra: [Sighs.] Now everything makes sense, why I feel connected to you or why I feel relaxed around you and how you can use four elements! Your an Avatar like me!
Zakai: But how can there be another Avatar when you're the Avatar?
Soon she looks down as she looks at this information as she is concerned by the fact that he was right how can there be another Avatar when she was the Avatar.
Korra: You're right. But I know who might know Tenzin! He can ask if any White Lotus can find out anything on there being another Avatar.
Zakai: Forget it Korra.
Soon he turns away as Korra is shocked by his response as he then stops what he was doing before as the water went down.
Korra: What? I just said you could be another Avatar and you said forget it? Why?
Zakai: Because I don't want to be the Avatar I just want to be "normal" I don't want power or money or anything else I just want to be normal.
Soon Korra then turns Zakai around as she doesn't like his answer as she thinks that he could be a piece missing from her maybe to help explain why she can't Airbend.
Korra: [Annoyed.] Are you serious? You can't just abandon your responsibilities.
Zakai then got annoyed with Korra as he knows why he's not the Avatar but the opposite... the Dark Avatar, the opposite a monster that will spread war, fear, anger, Jealousy, and any form of fighting or hate that will ingulf the world in discord. She is basically saying its ok for him to do that as he dryly chuckles at Korra for saying that it was ok for him to do that as Korra just looks at him funny.
Korra: [Annoyed.] What's so funny?
Zakai: you just said that as you think it's a duty for me to do that? Well, I'm not doing it. I'm going to live my own life my own way not your own.
Korra: [Angry.] So, you're going to ignore your responsibilities?
Zakai: Yes.
Korra was so shocked like he was going to ignore them as she then got angry at him.
Korra: [Angry.] How can you be...? You can't walk away from your calling!
Zakai: [Tauntingly; while smirking and walking away.] Watch me.
Then Zakai just walks away as Korra head then got read and steam coming out of it as Zakai smiles at her temper tantrum.
Korra: [Frustratingly Angry.] How are you...? [Growls then yells.] FINE!
She soon leaves by boat waterbending her way back home as Zakai then looks back as he had sadness in his eyes as he didn't say this to anyone but himself.
Zakai: [Sadness.] If I accepted my responsibilities, then I fear the world would be in danger and you would be hurt and the last thing I want to do is hurt you.
A/N: That was an interesting chapter while Zakai didn't find love he doesn't want to hurt Korra. Intteresting development what can that mean? Find out in the next Chapter: "And the Winner is..."
