This is a AU about if Peeta and Katniss got their shit together on the ride back from the games.

katniss lay in her bed thinking over the day, peeta lost his leg because of her, she made that turnakit. Tears start to drip down her face when *knock knock* she composes herself . "Who is it" she ask, "who would I be" she hears the teasing glint in his voice, "come in" Peeta walks into the room still limping. He sits down on the bed and she can't contain it anymore, she breaks a full sob escaping her throat. Peeta wraps his arms around her and tells her they are safe now and everything will be ok now. "No Peeta it won't! You lost your leg because of me!" She's screaming now. "Katniss, I would have died if it weren't for you. I will forever be grateful for you saving my life, yes it's gonna take a minute to get used to this but it's better than being dead" he says cradling her face in his hands "do you understand" she nods and they fall back against the bed both holding each other comforting each other in ways no one else could.
they lay like that for hours until they fall asleep.
"breakfast katniss" Effie's high pitched voice wakes her up. She looks at Peeta as he breathes softly not awoken by Effie. He looks so peaceful, she can't help but feel this feeling she's never felt before, comfort, happiness, love? She doesn't know but she doesn't want it to go away. She shakes him lightly "we slept through the night" she whispers and smiles at his small groan of complaint.
Peeta goes to his room to get dressed and said he would meet her at breakfast.
she sits down and starts to eat when thoughts plagues her mind. Does she actually love Peeta, how much of it was fake. She looks around and only sees Effie, guess she's who shes gonna confide in. "Effie?" Effie looks up, "what does love feel like" Effie has a shocked look on her face for a second before answering, "well it's a warm feeling in your chest, you can't imagine a world without them, you would die for them." Katniss takes a deep breath, she's in love with Peeta, she covers her face with her hands, "oh sweetie. What's the big deal of being in love with Peeta" of course she guessed who she was talking about, "everyone I love I hurt" Katniss murmurs, "oh that's not true, you saved your sister according to Peeta you feed your friend gales family as well as your own, you saved Peetas life, and you have changed how I view the world" Effie says, Katniss lets out a watery chuckle "who knew you were so wise" Effie smiles "I have my moments" they both laugh, "look Katniss here's the question, when you really think about it, can you live without him?" I shake my head "then there's your answer" Haymitch and Peeta walk in talking and Katniss cleans her face and Effie walks away from her.
later that night Katniss went to Peetas room to tell him she loves him. When he opens the door he smiles at the sight of her and she feels warm all over. "What's up" Peeta asks once she enters. She doesn't know how to do this so she just grabs his face and kisses him. When she pulls away she whispers "I love you" and he smiles the biggest smile any man has ever smiled, "really, I thought you said it was an act" "I thought it was but it never was, Peeta I love you" he kisses her again this time more passionately and she feels that hunger again and she is about to chase it when he pulls away "I love you too" it's her turn to kiss him.

the kiss becomes more passionate, he walks her backwards towards the bed, the back of her knees hit the bed making her fall backwards onto the bed and peers lands on top of her making the tightness in his jeans rub against her thigh making them both moan. She grabs the hem of his shirt and pulls and he moves to make it easier to take off. She admires his muscles running her hands down his abdomen making him shiver. She grabs her own shirt taking it off and he immediately starts kissing her neck then her chest just above her bra. His hand reaches around the back to unclasp her bra and she sits up a little to make it easier. Once her bra is thrown somewhere across the room Peeta stares for a moment making her squirm in anticipation. "Your beautiful" he says then leans forward and kisses her chest making her back arch. He stays doing that for a while then starts to kiss down her stomach. "Peeta I've never done this before" she says breathlessly "me either, we don't haft to do anything if you don't want to" he says, "I want to I just don't know" she doesn't finish her sentence to embarrassed "well I've heard a lot of talk from my brothers so if you have questions just ask" she nods and kisses him her way of giving him permission.
They made love that night.

after the fact Peeta put on under wear and Katniss put on underwear and Peetas shirt.
the next morning Peeta woke Katniss up by kissing her all over her face saying "I love you" between every kiss. She giggles at him before turning towards him, "good morning" she says "good indeed." *knock knock knock knock knock* from the rapid knocking they knew it was Effie, "breakfast" they both looked at each other with guilty looks on their faces, they both didn't want a lecture from Effie about proper educate. "I'll go out distract her while you get dressed" Peeta says and she nods.
the next night they slept in different beds and they both hated it.
they arrive home in 30 minutes and they are both excited to start this new chapter in their lives.
