Lovely Lane Chapter 11
Fun on the farm
Clark and Lana were coming down the homestretch of their 2nd year of college. They both were holding to a GPA of 3.75 or better, and they were very proud of each other. The adventures experienced on their California trip had set Lana to thinking.
While eating supper one evening, Lana made an observation. "Clark, that time in CA got me to thinking."
"About?"
"My Law Enforcement minor."
"Ah, seeing bad-ass Blye at work got your juices flowing?"
"Well, we didn't see her at work much, really."
"True. But we did get to see a real-life Federal agent on her home turf. Interacting with her partner and the team."
"Yeah, about that partner thing. There's something going on there, no doubt about it."
"You think?" Clark lifts an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I'm sure."
"Ok, I'll go with woman's intuition."
"Good choice, babe." Lana grins.
"So, what about law enforcement?" Clark ponders.
"Well, we saw Kensi and Deeks work together, a little. With our complimentary abilities we could be a dynamite team. No?"
"Yes, but."
"But what?" Lana posits.
"Well, how could we possibly keep our real identities hidden?" Clark questions.
"Disguises." Lana has an answer.
"Well, mom and I have talked about that. We haven't come up with a solution that both of us like."
"Well, with another voice in the discussion, maybe we three can come up with an answer we like?"
"That's entirely possible, babe." Clark is optimistic on this topic for once. "Then what do we do with it?"
"Whoa, one step at a time." Lana puts a hand on his chest.
"Ok, we need a little time at the Kent Farm."
"Let's check our work schedules, then I'll call mom and set up a weekend together." Lana suggests.
THE KENT FARM
The CK express gets the kids to Smallville late on Friday evening; they say a quick hello and retire to Clark's old room. Martha has persuaded Jonathon to get a queen-sized bed for that room. He looks askance at her when she campaigned for it, but gave in somewhat reluctantly. Martha still can 'handle' him, thank goodness.
Saturday after breakfast Martha, Clark and Lana move to the LR to talk.
"Mom, we are discussing the possibility of being more involved in law enforcement, at some level." Clark starts.
"Inspired by your time in CA?" Mom asks.
"In part," Lana adds. "Plus, as you know, I am working on a Law Enforcement minor. And with our complimentary special abilities, we could be an asset wherever we would be located."
"Moving to sunny CA?" Mom looks saddened.
"No, mom. No moves planned. But you never know." Clark tries to soften the possibilities.
"Have you thought more about disguises? Clark said you two had discussed the topic." Lana inquires.
"Yes, actually I have. Clark, in your old room, in the closet there is hanging a suit for you to try on. Why don't you go and put it on, and come down and show us how you look?"
He super-speeds upstairs, and is back in 60 seconds. He has on a blue spandex looking suit, yellow boxer/briefs on the outside, red boots and a red cape. He looks embarrassed.
"Oh!" Lana clasps her hands over her mouth to stifle an outburst.
"Nice," Martha says.
"You've got to be kidding me, mom," he spits out.
"Son, you look nice. I think the chest needs something though."
Lana is thinking, "A coat of arms, maybe? Did the House of El have a coat of Arms?"
Martha is puzzled. "Did they, Clark?"
"Yeah. I've never talked about it." He hangs his head.
"Why not, sweetheart?" Lana gets up and draws him into a hug.
"Well, dad has been so against me exploring my Krypton heritage. I just didn't want to rock the boat."
"Why was he so opposed to that," Lana wondered.
"Dad wanted Clark to focus on being an earthling," Martha confessed. "I think he felt threatened by Clark's interest in Krypton and other-worldly subjects."
"Yeah, I felt that way too," Clark mused.
"May I see it," Lana asks, about the coat-of-arms.
Clark streaks upstairs and returns with a large piece of cloth. He hands it to Lana and she handles it gently. "Wow, I've never felt anything like this before."
"It's from Krypton."
"How did you get it?"
"It came with me in the space pod."
"Oh, the one you destroyed?"
"Yeah."
"It's so soft." Lana says softly.
"But it's tough as nails. Clark had to make special tools for me to work with it," Martha remarks.
"This design, a shield with a large S. Is that the coat of arms?" Lana asks.
"Yes, but I don't know what it means. Dad didn't want me to pursue it. I was disappointed."
"I can imagine. Is there anything I can do to help, babe?"
"I think we should let well enough alone, Lana." Martha suggests.
"Yeah, I suppose so," Clark agrees.
"Clark, let me work with that today; I'll try to have something for you to look at before you go back tomorrow." Mom suggests.
"Ok. But what about Lana. Can you think of something for her?"
"I think so."
"Clark, there is somewhere I want to go now that it's dark outside."
"Bed?"
"No, silly. Later for that. Can you get our jackets, please?"
He disappears, then reappears with the jackets. They dress and step out onto the front porch. Lana wraps her arms around him and the two of them disappear in a flash of purple/white light.
CHANDLER'S WINDMILL
"Whoa, that was a pretty tight landing zone," Clark remarks.
"And if I had miscalculated?"
"I would have flown and caught you."
"My hero!"
"Always." They share a kiss.
"Remember, you said we should come up here at night sometime?"
"I remember. Isn't the view gorgeous?"
"It is. How close can we get to the stars?"
"Not very close, relatively speaking. Up here, it looks like you can reach out and touch them. You can't. I could take you on a trip to the moon though."
"Really?" She is amazed.
"Yes, but you would need an oxygenated pressurized space suit."
"Ok, I'll call NASA in the morning," She giggles.
"Sure thing." He pulls her tight. After a deep kiss he pulls back, "Want to join 5he mile high club?"
"We aren't that high." Lana states.
"We could be."
"Are you serious?" She whispers.
"Just say the word, princess," he whispers in her ear.
"Go, lover boy."
He wraps his arms around her, they shoot straight up.
To 1.5 miles actually. Yes, Clark has a solution for their clothes. No, I'm not going to share it with you. Tell me what you think in a comment.
