A/N If anyone questions Nick's instructions to Xander, in the episode Tribunal, where Monroe is kidnapped, Nick crossed a moral, ethical and legal line in his efforts to save Monroe. He threatened to kill the corrupt Wesen cop's totally innocent and naive sister. She knew nothing of his beliefs or affiliations. She didn't even suspect. And Captain Renaud told the Wesen cop, that this was a Grimm and Wesen matter. Unofficially allowing Nick to make the threat. Renaud's reasons are not explored. Nick's are obvious, that this was the length he was willing to go to in order to save a friend. Right or wrong, Nick made his choice.

"You're certain they'll kill him?" Xander asked.

"Yes. They've done it before, repeatedly." Nick told him.

Xander looked at Cordelia. "To do this, I'd have to do something I normally would not chose to do. A seer told me, I have the capacity for great good or great evil. I told her, I'm a good guy because I choose to be. I'm well aware of the fact that I have darkness in me. I've known that since I was a child. My adopted father was a human monster. I've spent my life praying I'd never become him. My foster father and blood father aren't anything like him. Shades of grey. Which is worse, I don't tap into my darkness and I stay safe or I let a man die. I'll do it. If I get stuck, Cordelia is the only one with a chance of bringing me out of it. Don't try to stop her, unless it looks like l'm going to hurt her. Then shoot me."

"You won't get stuck, Xander. Your father was right, you have too much control to let something like that happen." Cordelia told him.

"I hope I can justify your belief in me."

"Excuse me, what exactly is he going to do?" Sargeant Wu. "If he's a psychic, is he going to read his mind or something?"

"Or something." Xander said. "I'm not a Wesen and I'm not a Grimm. I'm something else entirely." Xander closed his eyes and remembered when the hyena spirit had control of him, back in High School. Three times he'd deliberately gone to that dark place inside himself. Angel, Angelus, Jack. Once accidentally, when vampires were a threat to Cordelia. Now he combined the feeling with the were hyena. He felt his teeth go pointy and sharpen, his ears slightly reshaped themselves and his nails thickened and sharpened. Control. "Where's this guy?" He asked.

"In the interrogation room." Nick answered.

"Make sure there's no recording equipment active. I'll know."

"This is as unofficial as it gets." Captain Renaud said. "Nothing's turned on but the lights."

"Show me the way to the interrogation room." Xander told Nick.

"This way."

They watched Xander stalk and that was the right word, to the door of the interrogation room.

"What is he?" Captain Renaud asked, once Xander was in the room.

"Something different." Was all Nick would say.

Cordelia watched though the observation window, praying she was right.

"Are we sure we should be doing this?" Hank asked.

"I was on the verge of threatening to kill Acker's sister." Nick said. "This isn't as bad."

"Shades of Grey." Cordelia said. "Something Xander's blood father said to us just a few days ago. That's the problem with hate, it breeds more hate."

Rosalie knew what hate felt like, she was feeling it toward the Wesen that had taken Monroe from her. She too watched the young man willingly risk himself to help Monroe. She hoped he could come back from what he was about to do.

Xander felt himself sliding easily into the mannerisms of the hyena spirit. He eyed his prey. The Wesen in the cops unform reminded him of a pig, literally. He could almost taste the raw pig he'd eaten back then.

"Tell me where Monroe is." He said.

"What are you?" The cop asked, feeling fear run down his spine.

"Someone who hasn't eaten raw pig in awhile. I let myself forget how good it tastes. Where is Monroe?"

"I'm not telling you anything. I'm a cop, you can't do this to me!"

"You're not a cop, you're a disgrace. Where is Monroe?"

"Some people are willing to die for their beliefs."

"I know, I'm one of them. But you're not dying for your beliefs, you're killing for them. Where is Monroe?"

"You can't do this!" The Wesen was literally squealing like the pig he looked like now.

"There's no recording equipment on. No one is going to stop me. Where is Monroe, piggy, piggy?"

"Forest Park! Forest Park! Somebody help me!"

"There's no help for you." Xander said softly. "Someone like you isn't going to survive prison. If you're lying, I'll come back and we'll have another talk." And he stalked out of the room.

"We're going with you." He told Nick. "We will see it though, to the end." He looked at Cordelia, she nodded. "To the end." She said.
