Owl House 4 days before the party
Luz Noceda was busy packing her clothes. She had a busy few days ahead of her. Helping her mom set up for their first christmas party in years. Luckily Amity had volunteered to help with the party prep. Luz had always wanted to have her friends over for christmas but they had been far too busy with rebuilding the isles or they were visiting family for the holidays but finally all had lined up for the perfect christmas. As Luz was packing her mentor and good friend Eda walked in." You got all of your things
ready?" The elder witch said as the young dominican checked her scroll." Yes I'm all packed up. You sure you don't want to come. It's gonna be a blast." Luz said as Eda took a sip of coffee from her mug." Thanks but I'm gonna spend some personal quality time with Raine. Bring some of that coquity thing back will ya." Eda said as a familiar airship touched down. " It's Coquito Eda and I've got to go, Amity's here. Merry Christmas Eda." Luz said as she made her way downstairs and outside. As she opened the door there
was Amity Blight, abomination engineer and love of her life. She wore her winter coat as she and her father unloaded a few bags before he set off. "Amity Merry Christmas." Liz said, giving her girlfriend a big hug and a kiss. " Feliz navidad batata." Amity said as she pulled away from the kiss. " So my sweet potato, are you ready for your 1st christmas party?" Luz said as she prepared the portal door. " I am ready." Amitt said, making sure she had her things. "Good by the way I can't thank you enough for helping
me and my mom prepare for christmas." Luz said as the portal door opened. " If I didn't help then I wouldn't be an awesome girlfriend." Amity said as the two walked through the portalal. When they reached the human realm the place had a lovely coating of snow. Not too much where you couldn't move around but not too little where patches of grass could be seen. The Noceda house had been decorated for the holidays. Wreaths were placed in each window,the house trim was coated in lines of christmas lights. The
lawn had a family of light up deer with a mom dad and baby. In the years since moving in Camila had a driveway and garage added to keep her car out of the elements. "You know sometimes it's hard to believe this home was a run down dump at one point." Amity said as the two entered through the front door not before shaking the snow off their boots. "Well it goes to show what a little love and elbow grease can do." Luz said, flexing her arm. "Like you did any of the heavy lifting." Amity said, punching Luz's arm as
her ears perked up. What she heard was the sound of stabbing and yelling coming from the kitchen."Luz is that Camila. Sounds like she is in trouble." Amity said, summoning her staff as she ran into the kitchen. "Amity, wait." Luz said following her. Amity kicked the door open shouting "Camila are you ok!" but to her surprise Camila was holding a chef's knife stabbing a large piece of meat. "Oh hi Amity Merry Christmas." she said as Amity put away her staff seemingly confused. "Oh hi mami Merry christmas. Getting
the pernil ready I see ." Luz said as she put down her bags. "Ok somebody explain to me what was with that yelling?" Amity said as she sat down in a kitchen chair. "Oh well when i prepare pernil for christmas i have to stab it to allow the seasoning to penetrate the meat so every bit is full of flavor so I like to vent out my anger while doing it." Camila said as she added garlic and other seasoning to the pork shoulder. " Wow mami i can't remember the last time you bought a pork shoulder that big for christmas." Lus
said washing her hands in the sink. " Well mija it's been a while since we have had company over for christmas." Camila said as she took the seasoned pernil and put it in the fridge. " Wait, the human book Gus showed me said you guys make turkey for christmas." Amity said, causing the two latinas to make a face of disgust."Why is it so bland and dry. Pernil is 10x as juicy and way more flavorful. Trust me you will fall in love at first bite." Luz said she grabbed a soda from the fridge."Well Mija I have a list of
groceries I need you both to buy for the party. I spent so long looking for a large enough pork shoulder that I didn't have time to buy them." Camilia said as she cleaned up the mess made from seasoning the pork shoulder. "Okay mom by the way you have dad dairy free coquito recipe?" Luz said taking the money and the shopping list. "Yes mija it's on the fridge door." Camila said washing the dishes. "Ok Mami we will pick up the groceries love ya." Luz said as she and Amity went to the car to grab groceries for the Christmas meal…..
Grocery Store 1 Hour later….
Luz and Amity were walking through a supermarket with a cart chock full of groceries. "Lets see we got a bag of rice, 2 cans of pigeon peas, celery, a jar of olives and coconut milk. That covers the ingredients for moro de gandules . What else do we need, Amity?" Luz said, pushing the cart through the store aisle. " Well let me see." Amity said pulling the list out of her pocket "We still need 4 cases of soda, 2 diet and 2 regular,6 sweet potatoes,6 ripe plantains, baking powder,baking soda ginger, brown sugar, dark molasses, flour eggs and wait I thought you cant have milk." Amity said as the 2 made their way to the baking Aisle. "I can't have uncooked milk. However if it's baked into
something like a cake or cookies it's fine. My mom uses it for making Old fashioned pancakes every christmas morning." Luz said as she grabbed the flour ,sugar, baking soda and baking powder."Okay but what's up with the dark molasses?" Amity said. "Oh that's for the gingerbread cookies you and I are gonna make, let me grab some icing for those as well." Luz said as she grabbed whatever they needed in the baking aisle. "Alright how about we split up to make this faster ill get the soda and eggs and you get the
plantains and sweet potatoes my sweet potato." Luz said, causing amity to blush before nodding in agreement. As they went their separate ways Amity took in her surroundings. The whole supermarket was dressed up for the holiday season. Beautiful red and green colors decorated the aisles as well as some blue for hanukkah. Throughout the store the speakers played lovely christmas music as customers went up and down the isles trying to complete the shopping for their christmas feast. She saw
a young family pushing a cart with their toddler safely stowed in the baby chair. It put a smile on her face. As she approached the produce section she grabbed a plastic bag and began filling it with sweet potatoes. As she was filling the bag a small boy walked up to her. Tears were in his eyes. "What is the matter, kid." Amity said as she took a good look at the boy. He had a mocha complexion, dirty brown hair and black eyes. His clothes were a beat beaten up and his gloves had holes on 3 of his fingers. He had to
be around 8 years old. As the boy dried the tears in his eyes he spoke. "Disculpe señora, me perdí de mi madre en la tienda ocupado y estoy asustado." Amity was glad she had been practicing her Spanish the last few weeks. As she bent down to comfort the small child she said." Vale, chico. ¿Por qué no vamos al servicio de atención al cliente y hacemos que la llamen por ti?" The words of comfort put a smile on the boy's face. As the two walked to the front, Amity was quick to grab some plantains. As they
approached the customer service Amity saw a display case with gloves. The display case had a black pair of childrens fabric gloves. Pulling them off the case and pulling out some money. Amity went to the counter and explained the situation and the employee was quick to call for the boy's mother on the loudspeaker. As they waited for the boy's mom she paid for the gloves and handed it to the boy telling him they were his. Aster a few minutes the boys mother came. " Mi bebé, estaba tan preocupada." The boy's
mother said as the two hugged, giving her child a big kiss. After explaining everything to the boy's mother she thanked her for helping him and buying him a new pair of gloves the two walked off. " Ah that was so nice, my lovely sweet potato." Luz said, shocking Amity. "You saw that." Amity said to which Luz nodded. "Yup, it was well in the spirit of Christmas Amity." Luz said as the two headed to the cashier to pay for the groceries. After paying they were making their way out of the store and packing up the car
when Luz said" Wait I forgot to get the ingredients for coquito. I'll go grab them while you go pick out the rum in the liquor store." Luz said, rushing back to the supermarket. "But Luz I don't know a thing about rum. " Amity said but Luz was already gone. As she made her way into the liquor store an older gentleman stood behind the counter. After asking the man where the rum was he pointed towards the rear of the store. Amity walked to a wall of rum. Some were clear, some gold in color and some pitch black in color.
She had no clue what kind of rum she needed. "Excuse me sir, I could use some help." Amity said as the old man made his way from the counter to the rum display. "Okay mam what are you looking for?" He asked. "Well me and my girlfriend are making coquito and she told me to grab the rum but didn't say what kind of rum." Amity said as the old man looked at the shelves of rum." Traditionally you are gonna go with a spanish style white rum. I currently have Bacardi Superior, Brugal Blanco, and Don Q Cristal." the
man said as he walked back to the counter. Amity looked over all 3 bottles unsure of which one to get. Thankfully Luz entered the store and selected a bottle of Don Q Cristal saying"It's a puerto rican cocktail go with the puerto rican rum." As she paid for the rum and the two walked out of the store Amity asked" Hey if it's a Puerto rican cocktail why do you make it I thought you were Dominican?" Luz looked at her girlfriend and said"Oh right I never told you. My mom is Dominican but my Dad is Puerto Rican. This is his recipe for dairy free coquito bec he also had dairy allergies." As the two walked back to the car it began to snow….
Noceda Household a bit later….
After Luz and Amity put the groceries away it was time to help with decorating. At this moment Vee showed up coming back from a date with Masha. "Luz Amity, it's good to see you." The basilisk said, giving the two a big hug." "It's good to see you." the two said as they were hanging decorations around the house. "Since you're here, why don't you lend a hand." Luz said and the young basilisk joined in with them and within a few hours the interior was all dressed up for the holidays. As Luz sat down Amity pulled out
a gift bag. "This is an early Christmas gift from me." Amity said, handing the gift to Luz. "Aw Amity you could have waited." Luz said as she pulled her girlfriend in for a kiss. " Well we are gonna need these if we are baking gingerbread cookies," Amity said as Luz put together what the gift was. Pulling away the tissue paper revealed 2 aprons. One Apron had the "She is my Sweet Potato." Written on it while the other had " I Yam." written on it. " Aw Amity, these are so cute and perfect, thank you." Luz said that giving her girlfriend a hug. As this was going on Camila was on the phone talking. By her facial expression it was not good news. "Mama what's wrong?" Luz said as Camila went to sit down in a chair. "Luz mija, your Abeula is coming for christmas."
