Tsukune didn't know how the meeting he was about to have was going to go. Especially given how little he really knew about this woman, and those like her. One thing he knew, she would be probably one of the greatest assets in the coming fight. Not that he didn't have many groups he could call upon.
As of yet he had plenty of support. Succubi, Mizore had promised the support of her village, there were Oni, many of the vampire families outside of Japan, and the list went on. Out of all of them so far, the Yuki-onna scared him the most, which may have been left over trauma from his own high school days. He had plenty of heavy hitters available, which made the universal refusal of any of the Orc clans a non-concern.
However, and he knew that the chances weren't great that she accepted. Given what she had said, she may even feel offended enough that she would take hers, and leave, which presented some unique dangers in and of itself. Well, part of that danger would make Moka happy, though his son... he might actually enjoy that now as well.
"Are you sure about this Tsukune, what if she gets so angry that she becomes violent. We aren't quite sure the extent of their capabilities. That is even with all the information that I have from my Master's records," Ruby was not in favor of the idea.
Tsukune looked up from where he had been absorbed in looking at a dagger one of his agents had brought in to him, "No, but if your options are between a pea shooter, and a shotgun, which do you choose?"
"Preferably the one that is guaranteed to not blow up in my face. Plus, from what I understand, what they could do, would make Nagasaki and Hiroshima look like a firecracker. The thought scares me, they don't fit in reality as we know it, and that makes them as dangerous to anyone that would fight beside them, as it would their enemies."
"Ruby, I know. Everything I have seen Utsuki do, I can't understand it. Yukari can't understand it. I am not a great intellectual, but I know what should work, and what shouldn't. I can do little tricks of magic here and there. I can't do anything on the scale of Tekeshi. Tekeshi can't match someone like you or Yukari who are born witches. These women, I hesitate to actually even call them witches. But like you said, they are more comparable to a nuclear bomb, than anything else, and I can't say that having the nuclear option, isn't attractive," Tsukune folded his hands in front of him as he looked her in the face.
Ruby rolled herself closer to Tsukune's desk, and reaching the edge of it she pulled herself to her feet. It was difficult, but she was quickly gaining strength day by day, and Yukari felt that she would be out of the chair in just a few months. It was testament to how strong a person she was, and had remained throughout a decade of captivity and abuse.
She took a deep breath before she spoke, "You could very well be damning the world to destruction if they accept, and you unleash them."
"And there is the chance that I doom the world if I don't. Would you want to live in a world where Fairy Tale held sway? You, better than anyone, know what and who they are. What they are capable of. Do you want your daughter to have to grow up in that, because me and Moka want to have another child, and the idea of such, it... it is a type of terror it brings up in me, that I don't know anyone could understand that can't see inside my head. Ruby, we aren't invincible anymore, they know how to fight a Shinso. Moka, the strongest woman that I have ever known, was put on the ground with something that we never had to fear in the past. A twelve gauge shotgun. I have been shot multiple times over the years. I have taken a full on shotgun blast to my face. It barely inconvenienced me. We went from being the scariest things on Earth, to just slightly above apocalyptic. Do you understand why I am considering this," the longer he spoke, the less steady his tone was.
This threw Ruby off. She only had memory of the Tsukune of a decade ago. A man who was still coming to terms with what he had become, and at times having trouble controlling it. At times even the ghoul part of him threatened to resurface at his worst. He was never afraid though, he knew that he was the most powerful thing alive, and that he could use that to protect others. Seeing him with any degree of fear for anything but the possibility of losing his only child, was jarring to her.
"Fine, I won't say anymore against it for now. May the gods help us if what you are planning doesn't pan out like you want," Ruby let herself fall back into her chair as she took yet another deep breath.
Nothing more was said for a while. Eventually Moka joined them and engaged Ruby in conversation about something that was of little interest to Tsukune, who had returned to his study of the dagger. It didn't seem like they may have been about to try to convince a group that had withdrawn from society for the exact reason that he was about to try to convince them to join his army.
"Mr. Aono, Lady Madonna has arrived," Galdia poked her head in and announced.
"Please send her in Ruby," it was a habit that garnered a stuck out tongue from the real one present in the room, "Apologies, send her in Galdia."
"Mr. Aono, I hope that the reason you called me here isn't related to anything Anne has done. If so, I do apologize and will take great pains in correcting her," Madonna walked through the door, already expecting the worst, though not the actual worst that might be coming.
"Wait, Anne? Miss Bonny? Oh for the, is there something she has done that I should know about," suddenly Tsukune felt the need to start rubbing his temple.
"It isn't about Anne? Dibea never causes any issues. This isn't about Yltoun snacking on the miscreants that attacked Tomoe, is it," was the next question from the woman.
"No, that actually was a positive in my opinion. The thing about Orcs, is their parents, really don't care that much if their children die. They think that if they are weak enough to die, they are weak enough to be forgotten. Please sit down," Tsukune was working overtime to think of the best way to broach the subject.
"Madonna, that dress looks great on you. Was that one that the Maids did before we came back," Moka could tell he needed time and went straight for something most women could talk about for hours, clothes.
"Uh, well, kinda. I was going to the privy during the night while we were still at your estate, and suddenly I heard muffled yelling, felt like I was nude for a brief moment, and when things ended I was wearing this. I kinda liked it so I decided to keep it," she replied.
Moka snickered, "That is a common occurrence in our home. The maids rather enjoy the idea of living dress up dolls. Even me and Tsukune are not immune to it. At times it can be humorous, though I happen to have a picture of 'Suki and Deeseedra in traditional clothing that is breathtaking. I had to commend them quite heartily for that."
"Anne wasn't quite as happy when they got her with, what was it they said? Neko-meme," the foreign woman took a look on her face of intense concentration.
"Oh, why did I have to miss that? Nekomimi pirate wench. That would have been something to see. Sometimes I wish that house was not quite as big as it is. By the way, have you met Ruby yet," the mentioned woman did not seem to like being pointed out.
"Ruby? Wait a second, isn't Ruby sitting at the desk outside? And in much better physical condition," confusion was once again written on Madonna's face.
"That is a long, long, and complicated story," Ruby said, reluctantly speaking given her opinions of what Madonna was.
"I would like to hear it sometime. The best stories tend to be long. It is nice to meet you, I am Madonna. Grand Mother of the Sisters of the Order Demona. I am both the foreign languages teacher, and the personal teacher of young Utsuki. I am pleased to make your acquaintance," Ruby was a little taken aback by how polite Madonna's words were.
Swallowing she replied, "Yes, it is nice to meet you as well. I am, the actual, Ruby Tojo. Like I said, a long and complicated story that would take far longer to tell, than I really have the energy for right now."
"Ah, I suspect that is a long story. Now, I know it may be a little presumptuous, but I would like to know why you called me here. I have lesson plans I have to finish and turn in, not to mention that I also have lessons with Utsuki and Dibea this evening," Tsukune had forgotten how to the point and responsible the woman was.
"Yes. Madonna, I have a few questions, and I don't know just how to really ask them. However I need to, and they could have far reaching consequences. Can I expect that you will try to remain calm as I ask them," Tsukune took a deep breath as he spoke.
"I'm sorry, I am a little confused by that. Why would I need to remain calm because of your questions? Has something happened," the full extent of what he could be about to ask had not occurred to her.
"Madonna, have you heard of a group called Fairy Tale since you have been here," Moka interjected to give Tsukune a moment to form his thoughts.
The woman took a moment to think on the question, "I don't recall hearing the name. What do they have to do with anything regardless?"
"Fairy Tale is, I am trying to think of the best way to explain things. You are fairly worldly compared to some, so, the best way to explain it is they are terrorists. They want to subjugate, or slaughter humans. Its, well they most likely want both. We have been in a sort of, cold war, with them. They have attacked our family directly multiple times, violently," Moka told her.
"I still don't see what that has to do with me. Are you worried that they may try something against the school? You and Mr. Aono are incredibly powerful, surely they wouldn't dare."
Tsukune closed his eyes, "They already have. I know that you four didn't attend the cultural festival due to your reticence to have much interaction with the world. That month that me and Moka were gone, was the result of, it wasn't meant to be an attack, but it became such, that left Moka seriously injured. They attacked Tekeshi and Utsuki not long before they encountered your order. They are, a very great threat to all that live on this planet."
"Please tell me you didn't ask me here, for what I think it may be. Please tell me that you aren't thinking that I would ever agree to that," it started to dawn on her.
"I'm afraid so. They challenged us to a straight up battle. Full on army against army. A weird thing as it all goes, but it may be a chance to end this once and for all. I'm not lacking in people I can call upon, but I know better than to not attempt to make use of every resource that I could possibly have at my disposal," he had trouble meeting her eyes at that moment.
"Do you understand what you are asking me? What the whole reason that I keep my sisters away from your society? The disrespect that you are showing by even asking me that question, if it were not for young Utsuki, I would leave here now. I am not a weapon for you to use at your whim," vitriol dripped from Madonna's words as she spoke.
Tsukune finally looked the woman in the eye, "Aren't you the one that declared herself a weapon. What is a weapon if not for use? I have enough weapons though, I would rather someone to fight, if the worst happens."
"So you want me in your army, but you don't want me to fight until the battle is lost. I have heard this so many times in my centuries of life. Would you even be willing to accept what it would mean for me to fight? You utter fool, I don't care how strong you seem, I should kill you for the sheer impertinence," fire seemed to flash in her eyes.
A noise went unnoticed at the door, which then opened to let Anne stride in, "If she danae wan' to fight, I will. 'Tis been centuries since I have seen a good dust up, an I 'ave missed it som'than awful."
"Anne, stay out of this. You were not asked to be here, nor were you given leave to speak. Return to your room now. We will take of your insolence later," Madonna didn't even turn to look at the woman.
"Nay, not this time. I have spent the las' three 'undred years in a stuffy, humid, and depressing castle. Until the Lad and Lass dropped in our laps, I didn't even see the sun, ne'er saw the sky, in all tha' time. Ye are worried about us being used as weapons, I would relish in it. It would be an actual life, and not just the existence you had us damned to," Anne stood her ground as Tomoe and Dibea came to stand next to her.
"You are still children compared to me, you haven't seen just how hard this life could be yet. I have saved you that reality. Would you really want to see people that you come to care about die in front of you, time after time, centuries of it?"
Tomoe stepped up, "I agree with Anne on this. You haven't given us a life. The last person that I came to care about, passed, I don't even know how long ago now. The greatest part of my life was spent in the fortress. Would I have liked to stay upon the field of battle? Compared to what has been a forced life of seclusion, I would have."
"And what of the unique circumstances of your existence? Would you have wanted to go weak at the knees every time a pair of drunks took offense to each other and went rolling in the dirt? Would your insufferable dignity survive that," Madonna finally turned to face them, which made Dibea's deep, black skin, turn almost stark white with the look on her face.
"At least then, there would be dignity to lose. Since we have been free of the fortress, we have actually felt like we had life again," Tomoe responded.
"Aye, like there was something more than jilling off, and chanting stupid sounding mantras. I fell like I can breath again, nae just because the air be drier. Many of these younguns I have met, they seem innocent, but aware. I heard talks about tha Lad tearing a few knobheads apart for harming the pretty young Lass sitting over there," the others three in the room noticed a sudden shift in how the pirate stood.
"Great Mother, should I ask this, were we your sisters, or your prisoners," Tomoe also changed how she stood.
Silence permeated the room with that question. It was apparently one that Madonna had not been expecting anyone to ask her, and she did not have an answer. Anger seemed to continue to well in her, and Ruby was quite shocked when the hulking form of Rougar faded into view to place his hand on his mistress' shoulder in an attempt to calm her. He failed at this though.
"You ungrateful whores. I did all I could for you. I protected you from being used, from the pain of your own desires, and this is how you would repay me? Tell me Anne, what would you have done had I not intervened and called you to the fortess," she looked the red haired woman up and down with a sneer on her face, "become just another wharf rat?"
"Aye, I might have at that. I might have even found a way to raise me own crew, and take to the waves as I and me Jack had before. I may 'ave found me another man to settle with, and raise a brood of whelps just as ill-tempered and rude as meself. I guess history will the question due to ye meddling," the words seemed to freeze some of Madonna's anger.
"I may have as well, found myself another to love. The deaths of my husband and my dearest friends left me broken, but not dead. I had met many people who were kind to me, before I met you and became a part of your order. You had already been hiding those who bound themselves as we did for a thousand years before I met you. Had it never occurred to you, that we may not all want that," Tomoe looked annoyed at how Anne put her words, but maintained her own composure.
Madonna set her shoulders, "Rich words from a common whore. I remember what you were when I found you."
"I was a oiran, not a simple prostitute. While I did engage in such acts, I also provided comfort, and companionship. It gave me a purpose beyond what my sword had when I served Yoshinaka-san on the field of battle. I have never said anything before, as I never had reason to, but I would have preferred to live out what life I was going to have as a common whore, than to spend a thousand years in that horribly fortress, a virtual prisoner," as Tomoe spoke, Tsukune started to get a feel for why his son was afraid of the woman.
"What of you Dibea? Or are you still to afraid of yourself to even speak," Madonna finally turned on the somewhat young girl.
It took Dibea several moments before she could speak, "I, hate it at the fortress. I was raised under the open sky. I became this, because my mother was taken by another tribe, and sold to some white man who had a plantation. I haven't known the touch of a man, and I never have cared that much about it. I, missed looking up to see the stars, to know that there are those beyond our world that look down upon us, to guide our way. I have felt lost not seeing those who have come before me, and I have welcomed being able to see my path again. I, am not a warrior, but I would rather fight, be used as little more than a spear, that to live lost as I have among our sisters."
Madonna was losing sight of what she was supposed to be feeling, "How can you betray me like this? Everything to protect you, I gave you and your partners eternity. I gave that to all of our sisters. You have the gall to doubt my intentions."
Another voice sounded from the door, "In Christianity, there is a saying. The road to Hell, is paved with good intentions. Madonna, I may not really be able to judge, I may not know enough. One thing I do know, is that one person, should not decide for many. I remember still, and I have not forgiven, your attempt to keep 'Suki at that fortress against her will. Let me guess, you didn't start forcing people, until he died?"
The woman looked over to the sight of Tekeshi leaned against the doorway, "What reason do you even have to be here?"
"First off, the man behind that desk in my old man. Second, I was meeting with Tomoe to get ready for my sword lesson, and Anne there came running up out of nowhere and drug us here against our wills. Third, answer, is it because of him," of anyone she knew she could stare down, it was him, but she was still going to try.
"Him, who is him? Little boys should know when to keep their mouths shut, and their noses out of other peoples business."
Tekeshi didn't even flinch, "Arthur. Rougar there told me. He thought that it would give me a better opinion of you. Honestly, I didn't care then, and I don't particularly care now, except that it doesn't give you the right to hold anyone against there will. You are no god."
"You would betray me even," Madonna stumbled over to one of the couches and sat forcefully.
"Great Mistress, he is right. Wild Eyes may be young, but he is very wise for his age. Arthur died. It has been a long, long time by how you humans measure I believe. I was never that fond of him, but I know, and have said before, he would not want you to torture yourself as you have. Let go, and do what is right for all the women that follow you," the demon spoke to her softly, the sound not matching his feral exterior.
"I have a question for you now. One that you will hate, I can tell that much. How truly dangerous are these, Fairy Tale, that you will be fighting. Surely they cannot be very powerful, if they couldn't deal with one vampire," the question Madonna asked was insulting, one more shot leveled at them in spite.
Ruby finally spoke, "They held me for ten years. They locked me in a cell, beat me, locked my power away from me, and raped me constantly. The only thing that kept me sane, was a child, whose father I will never know. She was the only one that survived to be born, out seven pregnancies. You want to know what kind of people they are, and how dangerous they are? They are an existential threat to everything that lives. If they were to start a war between human and Yokai, all will die. There are not enough of us to subjugate humanity, and we are too strong for them to subjugate. If you think that you would be spared, then you are naive, and deluded."
"You heard her. Do you still feel as haughty as you were, Morgause," Tekeshi fixed her with a strong look as he said her true name.
The only other sound, was Ruby's shocked gasp.
