Chapter 5

Isabella POV

Mother had imparted many teachings about the forest, explaining that every living thing possesses distinct energy differentiating between active life and dormant existence. She emphasized the symbiotic relationship of beings, each holding a specific place and purpose. As a seedling born from energy, I puzzled over our origins, wondering if our existence was merely a byproduct of another's essence, devoid of individual purpose.

In my youth, Mother often reminded me, "You are but a child, with much to learn and comprehend. Knowledge brings power, but with it comes great responsibility. May you rise to the challenges ahead, for they require more than mere hope." Her words bore an ominous weight, hinting at foreboding times ahead.

Beneath the willow's shade, I spent countless days absorbing her tales of the forest's inhabitants and the slumbering beings beneath her earth. A sudden howl pierced the air, causing me to cover my ears, overwhelmed by its resonance. "Willow, I felt your awakening. Is something amiss in the forest?" A voice echoed, yet I could discern no one nearby. Peering into the rustling bushes, I sensed an impending force, prompting me to climb a willow branch, seeking solace in its trunk. "I am frightened, Mother. What approaches?" I trembled. Through our connection, I felt her laughter, assuring me that the approaching presence posed no harm.

A russet-red wolf emerged from the bushes, its amber eyes meeting mine. As it approached, bowing before Mother Willow, I was perplexed yet cautious. "It is an honor to be in your presence, our creator and mother," the wolf declared.

"Rise, old friend. I seek your guidance and aid," Mother requested.

"How may I assist?" The wolf's deep voice resonated.

"I have nurtured life, watched my children grow and imprint upon this earth. Yet, I grow weary, waiting for another to assume my role," Mother explained. I was puzzled. Was she not going to stay to teach me?

"What do you mean, Mother?" I protested as I landed and glared at her. How could she grant me life and then depart? A growl to my right interrupted, warning me against disrespect.

"Peace, dear one. She is as ancient as the forest, awakened for further learning with your help," Mother clarified. Glancing at the wolf, I saw contrition in its russet gaze. "Forgive me; I meant no offense," it uttered. "I have been without my family for so long that even the stars were as new as a sunrise. I have lived for ages, yet I have grown weak. I fear my spirit will soon dissipate like mist and dew," the wolf confessed, leaving me perplexed.

"Is it your time, Mother?" I questioned, contemplating her cryptic teachings and the reasons behind them. She remained silent for a while, eventually stating, "All things conclude, child. Therein lies the value and achievement, for every life plays a part in this unending cycle."

As the wolf and I absorbed her words, she continued, "Sit with me, and I shall recount my origins."

"I was among the stars, birthed when the Earth formed. We, a conscious entity, learned from our mother nebula, vowing to maintain equality and nurture life. As humans walked the Earth, we guided, whispered, and influenced existence, hoping for fairness and growth," Mother divulged. Her storytelling rendered the forest still, captivated by every word.

"But one day, an unknown entity arrived, harboring foreign emotions. It marked the beginning of our loneliness and fear, a prelude to an unforeseen end," she continued.

The wolf beside me tensed with concealed fury. "Is this entity the darkness that haunts this forest, instilling unease and fear?" it growled.

"Yes, dear one. Its presence grows stronger, and I weaken. The earth quivers; darkness hidden below will soon emerge," Mother explained.

"Tell us more, Mother," I demanded, the tremor in my voice belying my fear.

"Eons ago, I fell in love, which became my downfall," Mother revealed, hinting at a timeless lesson about love that would shape my future perceptions.
