Chapter 66
— The only known magic capable of modifying the body of a mortal or a living being is Flesh Magic. There is no magic darker and more repugnant than this, for those who use it play at being gods. —
Ancient text in the Arcanaeum.
The meeting room in Edzard's palace was engulfed in a tense atmosphere, so tense that the tension could be cut with a dull dagger. This was because the leaders of the Kuoh pact and the members of Vali's team were gathered in that room... or at least that was expected, but the reality was that only the leaders of the pact were together with Zakir and Vali, since the rest were in other places, such as the kitchen in the case of Bikou and Arthur, the bathrooms as was the case of Kuroka, Le Fay and Ophis.
"I didn't expect them to use those coins so soon." Edzard said as he looked at Vali and Zakir, seeing that they had no injuries, showing that they had used the coins for another reason. "Since I see that you have no injuries, I guess the reason why everyone has come, including Ophis, is that something serious has happened, right?"
"You can't imagine, brat." Zakir replied, grumbling a little. "But first, I think they have questions for you, so, in order not to get involved in their business, the Hakuryuukou brat and I will go out for a while. Let's go."
After those words, the humanoid fox stood up and looked at Vali, motioning for him to get up. Seeing the signal, the Hakuryuukou frowned, because he did not like receiving orders from Zakir, but knowing that he had to listen to him, he got up and followed him towards the exit of the room.
When the door to the room closed after the departure of the two members of Vali's team, the gazes of the leaders present fell on each other, once again forming an uncomfortable silence. That silence was so great that none of them had the strength to break it, or at least it was like that for a few minutes. As everyone watched, Michael stood up and walking towards Edzard, bowed as he apologized.
"I'm sorry, Edzard-dono." The leader of the heaven said as he kept his head down, not even looking at Edzard. "Because of my carelessness, that group of renegade exorcists kidnapped your daughter. Not only that, but we were the ones who placed Marcus in that church. So, if you are angry with someone, it must be-"
"Raise your head, Michael." Edzard said with a serious voice, interrupting the leader of the heaven.
Hearing Edzard's words, the leader of the heaven raised his head and saw that the young dragon had a tired look on his face.
"You don't need to apologize, believe me, this was beyond your control." Edzard said quickly, remembering the things he had seen in Marcus' mind.
"What?" Michael asked with surprise on his face.
"Yes, I agree with my brother. Why do you say he had no control over what happened to the renegade exorcists?" Azazel asked curiously, looking at Michael and then at Edzard.
"I know you have doubts and questions, but first let Michael sit down and then I'll tell you what you want to know." Edzard answered as he prepared for the round of questions, he knew would come next.
Upon hearing that, the leader of heaven, who was still completely confused by Edzard's words, decided to listen to him and therefore stopped bowing and went to his place.
The moment Michael sat down, everyone's eyes fell on Edzard, who sighed, knowing what was coming.
"Okaay, let's start the first round of questions. What do you want to know first?"
"Well…. Maybe, why aren't you mad at Michael about the rogue exorcists and the kidnapping of your daughter?" asked Azazel, who was looking at Edzard curiously.
"For one simple reason." Edzard responded, standing up from his chair. "What happened to my daughter is not his fault, but mine. I was overconfident to think that Marie was protected by the enchantments that all of her clothes possess. It never crossed my mind that they would be attacked by someone with the necessary resources to be able to drop those defenses."
Edzard's response left everyone confused, with Yasaka being the first to react. The leader of one of the two largest Youkai factions in Japan had a worried expression, which was the result of seeing her unconscious daughter not long ago. While she wanted answers, she knew that not only Edzard could give them to her, as it was more than likely that Sirzechs' sister knew more than what happened to her. Still, she wanted to know what had happened to her "fiancé's" daughter.
"Edzard-dono…. What happened to make you say this?"
Edzard's first reaction was to look at Yasaka, and then began to respond when he saw the concern on the woman's face. "It happened when Asia went to visit her old caretaker. This Marcus was not a simple priest, no, he was a spy planted by the Khaos Brigade in the church... one of the many infiltrators in the heaven faction. Although heaven is not the only one that has those kinds of problems."
"What?!" Odin shouted upon hearing Edzard's words, feeling completely surprised and overwhelmed by the news.
The old god's reaction was imitated by all the others present, who also looked at Edzard in surprise.
"W-w-w-what do you mean?" asked Michael, who was the most surprised and shocked, as he was still processing the information that Edzard's words conveyed.
"The devils, angels and Grigori have spies and collaborators of the Khaos Brigade among their ranks, who are more than active, providing information to some factions of that organization and, therefore, to the Daedra allies they have." Edzard responded, who saw how his words caused all the leaders, who were standing, to fall to their chairs in shock.
"Shit." Said Serafall, who was more than shocked by the revelation that they had traitors among their ranks. While she and Sirzechs suspected there might be traitors, she hoped there weren't. "H-how many are we talking about?"
"I couldn't say, but if that surprised you, what I'm going to tell you next will leave you worse." Edzard's words caused everyone to look at him again.
"I don't think it's worse than what you just told us."
"Oh, it's much worse... You see, have you ever wondered why my group arrived so injured after my daughter's rescue mission?" After the question, Edzard looked at his fellow leaders and saw how they all had the same look, one of confusion.
"The truth is, we have asked ourselves, since we are talking about your group, a group made up of members who are strong." Responded Odin, who had been more than worried to see Rossweisse so hurt. "So, boy. What is the reason they ended up like this?"
"When I entered the base of those exorcists, I ran into Marcus, who was holding Marie and Kunou hostage, so Rias and her servants along with Irina could not attack him. Fortunately, they had managed to keep the idiot's attention focused solely on them, so I was quickly able to grab him by the neck and free Marie and Kunou. After that I went ahead to beat him, to which he responded by creating a kind of pocket dimension. That place generated or at least I think it tried to imitate the conditions that exist in Aurbis."
Edzard's words surprised everyone, who looked at him in complete disbelief.
"A-a-are you sure…?" asked Sirzechs, who was the first to speak despite the shock he felt.
"Y-y-y-yes... Please, say it's your joke." Said Azazel, whose face was somewhat pale.
Azazel's reaction was copied by everyone present, including Yasaka, who began to understand what had happened and was getting an idea of what had happened so that her daughter would be unconscious when they returned...
'When Kunou wakes up, I will have a very serious talk with her. She must stop rushing into danger so headlong.' thought Yasaka, who began to think of a way to reprimand her daughter for this behavior. However, she stopped thinking about it thanks to the fact that she had to keep her attention in this conversation, because Edzard spoke again, drawing everyone's attention.
"Azazel, I wish it was just a joke, but when I was about to give him the final blow, he conjured that dimension…. But that was not the worst." Edzard said, leaving sometime between his words, letting them prepare for what he was about to reveal to them. "No, the worst thing was that that son of a bitch called a group of friends, who were capable of using Magicka without being Nirmnians."
If Edzard's earlier revelation had surprised them, with this last one they all felt like their souls could leave their bodies at any second. The time in silence for this revelation was now longer, as the minds of those present tried to understand what Edzard was saying. After that time, the first reaction came from Azazel.
"What?" asked the leader of the Grigori, who looked at Edzard with confusion, since he did not quite understand what he had mentioned. "I don't understand... Isn't that kind of energy supposed to only be used by Nirmnians and hybrids like your wife?"
"In theory, yes... but there are some humans who have the ability to use that power and Marcus was one of them."
The mention of this caused some of the leaders, such as Sirzechs, Ajuka and Odin, to put a hand to their forehead, simultaneously releasing a sigh of exhaustion and disbelief as they looked ahead.
"T-that's impossible…. How? How are you sure about that, Edzard-dono?" Michael asked as his eyes remained wide.
"I know this because I read it directly from Marcus' mind after subduing him in battle." Edzard said, to begin to narrate everything that had happened in the battle and how his enemies could use Magicka to fight. His narrative was clean and complete, telling everything that had happened in detail. As he told the story, the faces of those present paled, not only because of the information provided, but also because of how Edzard ended up telling how he read Marcus' mind.
"What you said is worrying, Chico." Odin said after Edzard finished narrating everything. The old God's face was completely serious, but his mind was somewhat disturbed by everything Edzard had said, since the amount of brutality he used was understandable, yes, but at the same time worrying. As much as the boy was angry, the way he managed it was very… very professional, he did not charge like a mad berserker consumed by rage, no, quite the opposite, he fought with an icy rage that made him more deadly than he already was. 'The way he manages his emotions is incredible, I didn't think I would see a young man his age be capable of something like that, but why? What has led him to have such a temper to manage his emotions? This boy keeps secrets, and it seems that one of them is what forces him to not let his emotions control him.'
"It is not only worrying, but also alarming in every way. We are talking about someone being able to create humans capable of using Magicka, but not only that. From the number of injuries of the members of Edzard-dono's group, it is more than obvious that they have all the attributes of the humans of Nirm." Commented Ajuka, who had a very serious face, while trying to understand how this was possible, because in his tests and simulations he had not been able to make the DNA of the Champion of Dagon, which Edzard generously gave for study, to be able to mate with a little bit of human DNA from the few trusted wizards he knew.
"It's true. Ed-chan, do you know how they do it?" asked Serafall, who looked at Edzard while her face was serious.
Serafall's question caused Edzard to look at her, studying her body position, trying to see if there was any ulterior motive other than to obtain information. Edzard's gaze was fixed on Serafall long enough for her to feel somewhat uncomfortable. Seeing this, Edzard let out a sigh, as he realized that there was no kind of ulterior motive in Serafall's words.
"I only know a little, that idiot was nothing more than a simple disposable piece, so I could only learn that he was the first success of what their leader calls the H.M.B.A Project, which means «Human Modified with Blood of Aurbis» project, a project with which stem cells obtained from a Nirmnian body were implanted in certain organs of humans on Earth." Edzard responded, causing Ajuka and Azazel to at once look at him.
"What organs are those and how do they do it?" Azazel asked quickly, hoping to find out how their enemies produced these hybrids.
"According to what Marcus knew, those cells are implanted in important organs, such as the brain, heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs. Although, not only that, but they are also added to the bone marrow and in some of the so-called hormonal glands." Edzard responded, mentioning the organs that were implanted with Nirmnian DNA in order to create these hybrids.
"Those are the main organs of the human body. Each one with an important and vital function. I suppose this is done so that the body resists its new power. And the hormonal glands will be to improve the rest of the body, muscles, bones, among others." Ajuka said, deducing the importance of each enhanced location of these artificial "Hybrids". "Although, I don't understand how they do it."
"I could see Marcus' memories and I know how they do it… believe me, it's not pleasant at all." Edzard said, once again drawing the attention of those present. "All those who are subjected to this process are tied up in beds where they are opened while alive, being kept alive with life support systems, which proceed to inject into their bodies stimulants and chemical compounds that make the subject stay awake and be aware of each of the cuts. I must say that they do not use anesthesia or any type of sedative, which makes this process somewhat grotesque. Part of the tissue from each organ is removed by doctors, and then replaced with Nirmnian tissue. After that, they are placed in special chambers, which heal their wounds and fill their bodies with a strange liquid, which Marcus himself described in his mind as a kind of somewhat thick liquid, but still liquid and cold to the touch. Apparently, the rejection rate is so high that out of every ten subjects only one or two survive."
The faces of those present turned pale as snow when they heard that, because that process was more than inhuman, no, even the supernatural beings of the world realized that it was more than that, that process was a torture of an indescribable level.
"T-t-that's horrible." Yasaka commented, who felt a slight discomfort in her stomach, this was thanks to the fact that the description that her fiancé had said was very explicit. "Who could do something like that?"
"I like that you asked, Yasaka." Edzard responded, causing to look at him in surprise. "It just so happens that the name of the person who created the project was in Marcus's mind. And, in fact, he is someone who some presents know very well."
Edzard's words were accompanied by his gaze, which rested on the leaders of the three factions and their companions, who looked back at him in confusion, since they did not know what he was referring to.
Seeing the look they gave him, Edzard decided to give them more clues so they could deduce who he was. "That person is legally related to someone in this room."
Edzard's new words once again caused confusion among those present, except for Sirzechs, who put a hand to his face and began to rub his temple, thus drawing the attention of his friends, who quickly connected all the dots.
"Shit." Falbium said as he realized who Edzard was referring to.
The curse uttered by the devil caught the attention of Azazel, Michael, Odin and Yasaka, who looked at the devils and saw how they frowned. That caused curiosity, so Odin spoke, asking them what was happening.
"Well, what is happening? Why have they made such faces?"
Hearing the Norse god's question, the devils looked at each other and then Sirzechs looked at Edzard.
"If you want, you can say it, I have no problem." Edzard said, leaving the whole hassle of responding to Sirzechs.
Upon hearing Edzard's response, the current Lucifer looked forward and after releasing a sigh, decided to say the name.
"The name of the person Edzard-kun is referring to is that of my wife's brother, Euclid Lucifuge."
The eyes of those who did not know about Grayfia's brother widened in surprise, but not only them, because Azazel and Michael were also surprised, since they did not expect this development.
"That means that..."
"That the true mastermind of this is none other than Rizevim Lucifer." Edzard spoke, interrupting Azazel, who at once looked at him.
"So that idiot has already recovered from the beating you gave him a long time ago. It seems like you want to give him a bigger beating this time, right?" The leader of the Grigori asked with a smile on his face, as he realized that Edzard had spoken in an icy voice when mentioning the name of Lucifer's son.
"You have no idea, but not only that. I want to get information from him about how he obtains the genetic material for these experiments, how he can do it. When I have that, I will crush his skull in the most painful way possible." replied Edzard, angrily, for there was only a guess in the young dragon's mind. And that was that those damned ones had found a way to contact Nirm or perhaps they had formed a deal with a prince, who was giving them mortals, who by the smell were surely Altmers. Although he did not have the best memory of the Altmer thanks to the Thalmor, his mind could not let innocent people suffer, so he would keep an eye and ear open for events that would allow him to find the place where Euclid committed those atrocities.
"Easy, boy." Odin said, trying to calm Edzard as he used a solemn voice, all to get the young man to calm down. "I know what that devil does is cruel, but for now we don't know where he is. From the news you have brought it is more than obvious that they are planning something big, big enough to do what they do. We must strengthen our defenses and the brats of the three factions must clean up their factions to prevent those traitors from stabbing us at the most critical moment of this war."
The old God's words made Edzard look at him for a moment, but realizing that he was right, he agreed with a nod. After which, the room was once again silent, which was broken by Sirzechs.
The face of the current Lucifer was immersed in a solemnity rarely seen by those present. This made it more than obvious that the recent news had caused some impact on his mind, as a part of him did not know how he would tell his wife about her brother's actions. Furthermore, a part of him was extremely worried, fearing that this revelation might make Grayfia seen as a possible traitor. While he knew that her beloved wife couldn't do that, it wasn't enough to remove any hint of suspicion from her. Therefore, he would have to ask that Euclid's actions be kept secret, at least until the whole issue of traitors infiltrating the factions is resolved.
'It's good that Grayfia is with the medical team examining Lilith-sama's condition... It's true! I must ask Edzard-kun where he found Lilith-sama.' After those thoughts, the leader of the devils quickly looked at the son of Akatosh and without wasting a second asked the question.
"Edzard-kun. One question, it's about Lilith-sama... Where did you find her?"
Hearing Sirzechs' question, Edzard remained silent for a few moments, analyzing what he would do, because he did not know if he should tell him everything... or at least that was what he had thought before returning home from the kingdom of the dead. Now things were different, since after what he had heard and discovered in that place, his way of thinking had changed. Especially after what happened with Marcus.
'I'll have to tell everything... it's the best, at least so that Serafall knows what to press in her meetings with the Greek pantheon, to achieve some kind of punishment for Hades without me having the need to get involved, even though I want to blow the head off that pile of bones. However, to achieve this I would have to use my dragon aspect and all the thu'um I know and that would give me away immediately, no, unless an opportunity appears, Hades, for the moment, is out of my reach.'
"Answering that question is complicated, Sirzechs…" Edzard responded, provoking the curiosity of those present.
"Why, Ed-chan?" asked Serafall, who was staring at him, waiting for an answer to the words he had just said.
"It's just that... to tell everything I need to bring someone else to the room... but you know what, I better have him brought, this way we kill two birds with one stone." Edzard's response was accompanied by a movement of his hand, which touched a button hidden under the table.
After that action, silence was present, until it was broken when the door opened, allowing Zakir and Vali to enter the room.
The arrival of the two members of Vali's team once again raised alarms among the pact leaders, who looked at Edzard and began to understand that either Vali or Zakir were behind Lilith's location.
"So, are you done talking to them?" Zakir asked, sitting on a chair, which appeared out of nowhere in a purple vortex. Another chair also appeared next to the Lilmothiit, which was used by Vali to sit on.
"No, in fact, I need your help to finish telling Lilith's matter." Edzard replied casually, causing Vali to turn his head so quickly that it almost looked like he had broken his neck.
"What did you say?" Vali asked, looking at Zakir curiously.
"Ahh... That's right, I forgot I didn't tell you about that." Zakir replied as he let out a somewhat annoyed sigh. "You see, brat... no, it would be better if everyone hears it... You see, we found the devil you call Lilith in a place called the kingdom of the dead-"
The moment Zakir mentioned that the devils suddenly stood up, looking at Edzard with amazement, anger and, above all, disappointment.
"You entered Hades territory with a member of the Khaos Brigade?!" Serafall shouted in surprise and anger. "Do you know that what you have done can throw away all my progress with the Greek faction to convince them to join us?!"
Serafall's shout caused Edzard and Zakir to put a hand to their ears, as the tone of voice was very loud and made their ears hurt.
"First, girl…don't shout at me, I'm not your dog." Zakir growled in annoyance, causing everyone to look at him, especially Serafall, who was more than upset by what they had done. "Second, be thankful we went, because if it weren't for us, she would be dying, and they wouldn't have been able to find her until it was too late, and she was just a lifeless piece of meat. At least now you have a chance to save her."
Zakir's words were cold and sharp like a knife, causing the devils who heard him to feel uneasy.
"Serafall, please calm down." Sirzechs said calmly, looking at his friend, hoping that she would calm down and not do something crazy.
"But…"
"Please, Edzard-kun knows that what he did was wrong, but like me, you know that he is very responsible, so it is possible that he did not leave traces of his presence in the territory of Hades."
Sirzechs' words seemed to penetrate the mind of the current Leviathan, who, although she felt upset by what the two heroes had done, in the end ended up nodding and calming down a little. This was because she was aware of what both could do. However, that doesn't mean that she would easily forgive Edzard for this, no, he would owe her a big one for stressing her out.
"Okaay... but don't let Ed-chan think that I will forgive him for this, just like that... he will owe me a big favor and he won't have the option to refuse. Ump." Serafall said before finishing with a pout as she looked away.
Hearing what Sona's sister said, Edzard only let out a sigh, as he became slightly worried about what Serafall might ask of him. Still, he knew he could worry about it later, now he had to get this over with so he could go see his family. So, looking at Zakir, he nodded his head. That action made the old hero see that they would not interrupt him anytime soon, so he spoke again.
"Well, as I said, we found the devil called Lilith in the territory of Hades, in a laboratory under some ruins."
"So, I was in Hades' territory...? Have you managed to find out why she was there?" asked Ajuka, who remained very calm, examining every possible scenario that would lead to the conclusion of why the mother of devils was there.
Hearing the question, Zakir looked away and looked at Edzard, who knew that it was now his turn to answer the questions.
"We couldn't discover that reason. The only thing we managed to find was what was in the dossier that my servants must have sent you." Edzard responded, remembering that before going after his family he gave his servants all the documents that he had collected, so that they could be sent to those who were going to see Lilith. All this with the desire to accelerate the actions they would take for a possible healing of the woman, since he understood the symbolic value of her returning alive to the underworld.
"I see... yes, we read that dossier, but we were hoping you could know more about her condition." Sirzechs commented with some regret, as he was hoping for a little more information to speed up the decision-making to avoid Lilith's death.
"No, I'm sorry, but even though I know many things, I am not a doctor, at least not one by the same standards that this world has." Edzard pointed out, emphasizing the words "This world", since that was the truth, since he knew some basic medicine, like any willing adventurer who wants to survive in the brutal world of Skyrim.
The mention of that caused Vali to giggle, somewhat amused, as he found it amusing what he learned every time he ran into Edzard. The half-devil's mind did not understand how someone the age of the extra-dimensional hero could know so much, since it was not normal that someone so young could have so much knowledge.
"You seem to find this matter amusing, Vali." Edzard said after hearing the half-devil's giggle. "Aren't you worried about your great-grandmother's condition?"
Edzard's question made the descendant of the original Lucifer become the center of all attention. Seeing himself as the center of everyone's attention, Vali just stared back at them, as he found this somewhat amusing. Knowing his answer very well, he had no problem answering the dragon slayer's question.
"Worry?... No, not at all..." Vali responded while shaking his head. "I have never met her, so I have no attachment to her."
The half-devil's response somewhat surprised those present, as they thought that he, at least out of simple pity, would feel some pity for her. This caused the room to become more than awkwardly silent. This silence lasted more than a minute during which they looked at Vali with some disapproval... at least almost all of them, since both Zakir and Edzard only looked at him with some pity.
After a few seconds of those glances, Edzard spoke again, because he felt that it was time to ask Vali some things, as well as make him see that he knew many things about his situation.
"Wow… that is… enlightening…" Edzard said as he looked at Vali intently. "Although, that is understandable… she is the mother of your beloved grandfather…. Whose actions and words caused you to live hell, and the real reason why you joined the Khaos Brigade... is to create a team capable of killing him, to find the satisfaction of taking his life with your own hands, right?"
Edzard's words left the place in a deep and uncomfortable silence. However, that did not last long and the first reaction of those present upon hearing that was surprise and shock, especially in Vali, who widened his eyes upon hearing what Edzard had said.
'How? How did he find out?' The half-devil asked himself, who after a few seconds began to see his "teammate". The young Lucifer's mind began to try to see if Zakir had been the one who had said that to Edzard, but after a few seconds, he remembered something important... He never talked about it with the humanoid fox. So, that led him back to the beginning, that is, asking himself again how it was possible for Edzard to know that.
The way Vali looked made Edzard smile with amusement, as he realized that his assumption was true.
'I only saw a few memories about Rizevim in Lucifer's ring, but it was more than enough to discover that Vali was abused, especially thanks to the conversation Rizevim had with his son, in which he urged him to be brutal to Vali. …that would cause a lot of resentment, but hey, that's not my problem.' Edzard thought, who, after that, let out a sigh and told Vali how he knew.
The moment the half-devil finished hearing Edzard's words, he was surprised to learn about «Auromancy». However, his surprise increased drastically when Sirzechs mentioned the reason why he was putting together the equipment he had.
"Your team is formed with only one thing in mind, right…? gathering powerful individuals who do not possess sacred gears, which will make your grandfather's annoying ability useless."
"How-?"
"How did I know?" Sirzechs interrupted Vali, smiling tiredly. "Because I also did the same thing as you. My Peerage is made up of individuals who do not use sacred gears, which would make Rizevim's «Sacred Gear Canceller» useless against them."
The revelation of why Sirzechs had recruited individuals who did not have sacred gear was something that shocked those who did not know. This was because very few people knew the truth about the way Sirzechs recruited his Peerage.
"I always wondered why there were no sacred gear users in your peerage and now I understand." Azazel commented as he let out a sigh, then looked at Vali. "If you wanted revenge on your grandfather so badly, you didn't need to join the Khaos Brigade, Vali. "You are not the only one who wants the head of Lucifer's son."
When Vali heard Azazel's words, he looked away as he responded. "I don't need your help for that."
"Maybe you didn't need it before… but now, it's different." Edzard said, drawing everyone's attention, especially Zakir's.
"What's wrong, brat? Why the gloomy face?" asked Zakir, who felt a shiver run through his body when he saw Edzard's face.
"It seems that Rizevim and his pet have managed to complete Hades' research and have begun producing artificial hybrids between Nirmnians and human Earthlings."
The reactions to this news were not pleasant, no, it was a very noisy one, which was led by the faction leaders, who stood up and, showing faces of astonishment and shock, began to ask Edzard what he was talking about. Hearing all this, both Edzard and Zakir began to narrate everything that had happened in their search for Asia's parents. By the time they finished narrating everything, those present looked at the two heroes with different looks. Some of these were of concern and shock, which were from the leaders, while another, that is, Vali, reacted with curiosity, since this seemed interesting to him. The half-devil knew that he couldn't face Edzard, at least not now, so he felt that these artificial hybrids would be a very good warm-up.
"I see... so, those two idiots have achieved something that Hades' research considered impossible." Zakir commented, who had placed a hand on his chin while thinking about the consequences of this discovery, as well as the possibility that Euclid could have contact with a Daedra to obtain that genetic material. "This complicates things too much."
"Heh, how so?" Vali asked with some amusement, who began to see these hybrids as subjects worthy of having a battle.
"The appearance of these hybrids will alter the balance of powers that existed until recently, brat. Their appearance will cause the current conflict to intensify. Now that you mention this, I finally managed to understand why they attacked us."
The mention that Vali's team had been attacked made everyone feel confused, especially Edzard, who raised an eyebrow, which was the signal for the Lilmothiit to continue speaking.
"The reason we came to your world is simple, brat. We have been betrayed and I fear Ouroboros has lost control of the Khaos Brigade."
The old hero's words caused the room to once again plunge into surprise and shock, as no one understood why someone would be stupid enough to attack someone as powerful as Ophis.
"What? I think I heard it wrong, but you say... What did they take control of the khaos brigade from Ophis?" asked Ajuka, who had a look of complete shock plastered on his face.
"That's right." Vali said, who spoke seriously, without using his usual tone of voice. That caused everyone to look at him, since it was unusual for this boy to speak that way.
The gaze of everyone present fell on Vali, who received a question from Edzard, in which the son of Akatosh asked him to tell what had happened. Vali's response was simple and direct, beginning to narrate what had happened.
"And that's how we managed to eliminate them all." Vali finished, telling how he and his team, along with Zakir, managed to eliminate the magicians sent to attack them.
"Wow, this is... incredible? The truth is that I did not expect this, but at the same time I did, since Kyoto I realized that the Khaos Brigade was not united in its goals, but rather they were factions that had their own objectives." Edzard said after hearing Vali's explanation. "I don't suppose you know what happened, do you?"
"No, in fact, that's one of the reasons we came looking for you." Vali replied as he looked at Edzard. "Remember how you said we could stay here for a while if we needed to?"
"Of course, I remember. Why?"
"Because one of the things we need is to stay under the radar for a long time, at the same time we need to hide Ophis to prevent her from causing problems in the human world by unleashing her power."
Vali's response left those present in stone, who did not know how to respond to it. Fortunately for the half-devil, Edzard was a man of his word, so he nodded and said there would be no problem with it. After that, he asked her what the other reason was.
"The other reason is that we need answers and Zakir said that you were better than him with mind magic, so we were hoping that you could read the mind of the guy we brought with us to find out who ordered the attack."
Upon hearing Vali's request, everyone froze and looked at Edzard, because although he was a member of the pact, he had made it clear that he could take certain liberties on some matters. This was because his main priority was to fight with the Daedras, not the Khaos Brigade, so no matter how much they objected, they would have no say in this burial. However, they knew that Edzard was also someone who would not hesitate to give them information if he considered it vital to keep the pact working, so they only needed one look from him to understand that he would give them the information later.
After looking at the other leaders, Edzard stood up and spoke, telling them that it was best to leave the meeting there, since to continue it was necessary to have the information contained in the mind of the subject that Zakir and Vali's team had brought.
After those words, the leaders nodded and began to get up and leave, heading off to do their things. The leaders of the factions went to do their thing, that is, Odin went to walk in the garden for a while, while Yasaka would go to see his daughter, who was in a room in the medical area along with Marie, Michael would go to the chapel for a while to try to find some peace in that place, while Azazel stood up and with a look told Vali that he wanted to talk to him, to which the young man agreed, as he followed Azazel out of the room.
When everyone left, Edzard and Zakir looked at each other and nodded.
"So, are we going to interrogate a wizard?" Zakir asked with annoyance, since he didn't like doing this kind of work, something shared by Edzard. However, both knew how important it was to obtain this information, so they did not waste time and left there in the direction of the dungeons.
A soft breeze swayed the curtain in the room where Issei's parents were resting. The young devil was sitting in a chair in front of the beds where his parents were resting peacefully, ignoring the restlessness that was eating away at the mind of their only son.
The current Sekiryuutei's mind was in a battle between two decisions, which were to tell his parents the truth about what he was now or allow his king to erase their memories so that they remember nothing of what they had seen in the Italian Alps.
[This is a very complicated decision you have, partner.]
Draig's voice brought Issei out of his musings, making him look at the green light that appeared in his left hand.
"Don't mention it to me, Draig." Issei said tiredly and then let out a sigh. "I still don't know what to do."
[I think it would be best if you listen to your friend. They better know you're a devil now, partner. This will make things better.]
"I know, but… what if they reject me."
[I don't think they will... I mean, you are the host of one of the most powerful dragons in the world, so I don't think they will reject you.]
Draig's words did little to calm Issei, who still didn't know what to do. If he had his way, he would never let his parents find out about this, but to his bad luck they found themselves involved in the supernatural world thanks to his connection with Edzard.
'I can't believe they kidnapped them just because of the stupidity that they thought we were so important in Edzard's life that he would think for a second about surrendering to avoid any harm to them.' Issei thought with annoyance as he felt his blood boil as he remembers how Edzard, before the meeting with the leaders, had told them the reason why they had been kidnapped. This revelation pissed Issei off. However, no matter how angry he was, his friend said some words to him that were the cause of his internal conflict right now.
«I'm no one to tell you what to do with them, Issei... but as your friend I can give you some advice, you see, lies and secrets tend to have the damn habit of always coming to light sooner or later. So, thanks to current events, it is best that you be honest with them and tell them everything that happened... and don't be afraid, they are your parents and there is no more sincere love that parents give to their children... You may not believe me now, but one day you will realize it when you have your own children.»
After remembering those words, Issei sighed again as he began to think about what action to take.
'I'm afraid to tell them, I know they love me, but... Will they be able to accept what I am now...?' Those thoughts filled Issei's heart with sadness and worry because he didn't know how he would react if his parents didn't accept him now that he was a devil. While there was always the option of erasing their memory, he knew that while they wouldn't remember what they said, their rejection of him would always be on his mind, which would surely affect their relationship.
"Issei…"
Issei's thoughts and musings were interrupted by the voice of his parents, who mentioned their son's name in unison, thus calling his attention.
Seeing that his parents were saying his name in a worried tone even when they were asleep, Issei knew that he was overthinking things. They were his parents, who, although they did not approve of his actions as a pervert, never stopped loving him for it. And if they were able to accept that side of him, it was more than obvious that they would accept the me of him now. So, letting out a sigh, Issei mentally prepared himself for what he was about to do, and it was good that he had already decided, because his parents' eyes slowly opened, looking at the place with curiosity and confusion.
"Issei?" Was Miki's question when she opened her eyes and saw her son sitting in front of her.
"Hello, Okaasan." Issei said with a smile as he saw his mother wake up.
"Hello, son…" Miki said as she stood up, being followed by her husband, who stood up and looked around in confusion. Fortunately, the confusion seemed to disappear when he saw that their son was next to her.
"Issei?" Garou asked with some doubt, and then smiled when he saw his son.
"Hello, Otousan." Issei said as he looked at his father.
"W-where are we?" Miki asked as she stared at her son. "The last thing I remember was shopping with Otousan and then…"
Issei's mother's eyes widened after those words, as she remembered that they had been attacked by some hooded men, and then woke up and saw her son and his friends in a kind of barrier, along with the image of Edzard fighting against some people. That memory began to upset them, since Issei's father had also remembered it.
Seeing the way, they were, Issei prepared to speak to them. So, taking another deep breath, he spoke.
"T-that…. That's hard to explain, Okaasan… but to sum it up, we are in a different world from Earth."
Issei's words disconcerted his parents, who were so surprised that they did not react so quickly, allowing Issei to continue with his explanation.
"Although it is not all… you see…. For quite some time now I have been hiding things from you…. But that is about to change starting today." Issei said as he stood up and walked in front, thus drawing the attention of his parents, who did not know what was happening, since it was the first time, they had seen Issei speak so seriously.
"Issei? What's going on?" Miki asked as she looked at her son with concern, something that was copied by her husband, who also looked at his son with concern.
When Issei was standing in front of them, he took a deep breath and prepared himself. He knew that sometimes an action and image were worth a thousand words, so he moved his left arm and extended it, activating his sacred gear.
A red light glowed for a second, then gave way to the Boosted Gear appearing before the eyes of Issei's parents, but not only that, but the reincarnated young devil did not stop there, for with an unusual reaction speed, he summoned his wings.
Miki and Gorou Hyoudou's eyes nearly popped out of their eye sockets the moment they saw their son make some sort of strange gauntlet appear, but nothing beat the pair of black wings behind his back. The shock of what they saw was such that their minds were a second away from shutting down, but they didn't.
"I-I-Issei…?" was Miki's question, which she could not understand what her eyes were seeing.
"Yes, Okaasan it is me." Issei said as she looked her parents in the eyes, trying to visualize her emotions.
"W-w-w-what's going on...? Why do you have two wings on your back? Why do you have a strange glove on your arm?" Gorou asked, unable to scream, since the surprise he felt had prevented his mind from thinking normally. "It's an illusion generated by an extremely technological artifact, right?"
"No, Otousan. Okaasan… this is not an illusion."
"Then, if it's not an illusion, why do you have those wings?!" Miki screamed, a scream that condensed everything she felt at that moment... the confusion, the shock of seeing that her son had wings, something that she began to think was some genetic problem that had recently appeared.
His mother's scream made Issei feel a chill run through his body while his heart shrank a little, because he felt that that scream was the first reaction of a possible rejection, but he had already opened Pandora's box and had given the first step... he could no longer stop. So, being aware of it, he continued speaking.
"It may sound illogical and fantastic, but it's the truth… I stopped being human several months ago, and now I'm a devil."
The words that came out of Issei's mouth left his parents like stone, looking at him with their eyes wide open. That caused a silence that was so awkward that it was making both parties feel bad.
For their part, Issei's parents felt confused and amazed, because their son had just told them that he was a devil, something that literally bordered on the impossible and fantastic. However, along with his words, their son was showing them irrefutable proof that he was not human, since it was not possible for a human to have wings or could make such a gauntlet appear out of nowhere. Furthermore, there were some things in relation to their son that did not add up, and that is that he had never bothered to train physically, but now he did, not only that, but his circle of friendship had also grown, that added to the fact that there were moments in which he was absent from the academy in a very rare way.
"A devil?" Miki asked as she looked into her son's eyes, trying to see if there was lie in them.
"Y-yes, a devil." Issei answered frankly, but at the same time with a slight stutter.
After that answer, Issei's mother got up from her bed and approaching her son, first slowly, and then walking at a normal pace, she gave him a big hug.
His mother's sudden hug caused Issei's eyes to widen in surprise, but the surprise did not stop there, as his father also arrived and gave him a tight hug.
"Otousan? Okaasan?" Issei asked, only to receive an answer that reached the depths of his being.
"I don't care if you're a devil, a dragon, or a weird-winged mutant." Miki said, causing a bead of sweat to form on Issei's forehead, something that disappeared the moment he heard the next thing. "You will always, always be my dear son."
"That's right, Issei... You are our son, and that will never change, whatever you are."
The moment those words reached his ears, Issei's eyes filled with tears, and he hugged them back, feeling the greatest relief he could feel to hear his parents accept him as he was now. This moment lasted several minutes, after which they separated.
When they separated, Issei's parents began to hear from their son everything that had happened, destroying in the process everything they thought about various people, although not for the worse, since, despite knowing that all their son's new friends were not human, they knew that they were not bad people.
During the entire revelation about the supernatural world, Issei's parents learned everything, about the three factions, the gods of the different mythologies, and, above all, the current state of the world. It doesn't take a genius to deduce that Issei's mother almost fainted from the shock of knowing that their world was being invaded by evil gods from another world, whose only goal seemed to be the destruction and enslavement of all mortal races. However, despite that surprise, which was capital, that was not enough to prevent them from feeling impressed again by how their son began to tell them about the battles in which he had been involved. With every word he said, Issei's parents felt more and more proud of their son, but also worried, because, like any parent, they feared that their son might one day fail and never come home again.
"And that's all that's been going on." Issei said, finishing telling everything that was happening.
"T-t-that... is incredible..." Issei's mother said, finally understanding what her son had just told her. Miki's voice was loaded with many emotions, concern for her son and for the life he had now and that he would have in the future. Along with feelings of gratitude to Rias Gremory for bringing her son back to the world of the living. Another person for whom she would also have great gratitude would be Edzard, who, she realized, was a kind of role model for her son, a kind of brother figure that he could never have.
"Yes, it's incredible… I can't believe you can have a harem!" Gorou shouted with tears running down his eyes, due to the happiness he had knowing that their son could give them many grandchildren. That reaction of Gorou was copied by his wife, Miki, who also began to rejoice, to the point where she threw herself into the arms of her husband and taking him by the hands, they both began to jump with happiness.
"Huh?" was the only thing that came out of Issei's mouth after hearing what his father said.
"Oh, that's right… we never told you." Issei's father said, causing his son to look at him with surprise and curiosity.
"The truth is that we, in our youth, had the dream of having our own harems." Miki pointed out with a smile and a slight blush on her face because of the shame of admitting to her son that they had also had the dream that he himself had right now.
His mother's words caused Issei's jaw to drop in surprise, looking at his two parents in complete shock, as he had not expected this.
"Although we could not fulfill our dream, destiny has given you the opportunity to fulfill it, so you have our full support." Miki said, followed by a nod from Gorou, who was smiling widely.
After hearing these new words, Issei smiled at his parents and nodded while raising a fist in the air.
"Don't worry, I will fulfill your dream and become a harem king!"
That statement was followed by the laughter of the three Hyoudou, who began to talk about other more trivial topics of what it meant to be part of the supernatural world.
While the meeting of Edzard and the rest of the leaders that made up the Kuoh pact was taking place, on the horizon of the kingdom of the dead that could be seen from one of the towers of Orcus castle, many grim reapers were observed, which attacked the castle with magic. The thousands of spells unleashed on the castle were stopped by a powerful barrier, which was more than bravely resisting all the attack received.
"Lord Orcus!" shouted a grim reaper, approaching the lord of the castle.
"What's wrong?" Orcus asked when he saw him arrive.
"We have a direct line conversation with Lord Hades. He wishes to speak with you."
Upon hearing the grim reaper's response, Orcus felt strange, since they had been trying to contact the Lord of the Land of the Dead since he arrived with his army not long ago to attack them in an untimely and unjustified manner... or at least that's what several of the grim reapers who were under his command thought, since only he and his most loyal doctors knew the reason why they were being attacked.
'I can't believe that idiot Hades dares to openly attack me. He's more than confident that he can silence me so that no one finds out about his dirty laundry.' Orcus thought, who looked to the side and, looking closely at the grim reaper, saw that it was trembling slightly, obviously for fear of what was happening outside the castle. "Contact him, I'll talk to him."
After those words, the grim reaper who had spoken with Orcus quickly nodded and left the place. A few moments later, a magic circle appeared next to Orcus's head.
"Hello. Hades…. To what do I owe the honor of your call at this… strange moment?" Orcus said using a serious and unflappable voice.
"Orcus… I know you are aware of the situation you are in right now." said Hades's voice, which was calm and contained a great amount of confidence. "There is no need to continue with this, I just need you to return those two to me and swear not to speak of this, along with turning me over to anyone who knows about those two individuals. You would also have to give me the information of the intruders who dared to enter my castle. Give me all that and I'll leave without bloodshed... I'll give you half an hour so you can think this through, Orcus-."
"I don't need that time to give you an answer, Hades." Orcus said quickly, interrupting Hades. The voice of the Lord of the Moderate Faction, for the first time since he founded his faction, had an aggressive tone of voice. "Do you really think I'm stupid enough to give up like that? No, I know that the moment my barrier falls, your troops will come in and cause a real bloodbath and massacre all my subordinates. No, we will resist everything you throw at us and I swear that before I die, all the secrets and things you have done behind the backs of all the other gods to harm the other supernatural beings will be exposed. Even you, one of the beings that is at the top of the most powerful beings, will not be able to face all the enemies that will attack you. So, I'm telling you right now, attack and you will lose anyway."
The words that came out of Orcus's mouth greatly surprised Hades, who did not respond immediately, but when he did, he spoke angrily.
"I see, so that's your choice… then, get ready, because I won't let this get out."
After those words, the communication was cut off, which was the moment when Orcus knew he would have to act immediately, as he felt the bombardment of enemy spells increase drastically, beginning to shake the place. Therefore, without wasting time, he began to order Thanatos to be called, it was time to join forces to free his race from the control of Hades. However, when the emissary was about to give that order to those in charge of communications, a strong pressure was present, causing Orcus to feel his body go numb and his throat close.
The sensation was so horrible that his senses went crazy, which prevented him from continuing to feel the attack that his castle was receiving, since it did not shake. That left him dumbfounded, but he snapped out of that state when he heard Bennia's voice arrive.
"Dad!" was the cry of the half-grim reaper, who for the first time in years did not insult her father when she spoke to him.
The moment he heard his daughter, Orcus looked in that direction and saw her floating towards him without her mask and with her eyes open in panic.
"What's wrong, Bennia?" Orcus asked with some difficulty.
"The sky!" Bennia shouted almost desperately.
"What happens to the sky?!"
"The sky has broken and allows us to see the dimensional gap!"
The moment Orcus heard that, he quickly came to his senses and without wasting a single second, he rushed towards the window, being followed by his daughter. Upon arriving, he saw that his daughter was right, because in the sky there was a large hole, like the one made in a broken mirror and through there you could see the infinite colors of the dimensional gap.
"What?" What he was about to say Orcus died in his throat when he saw how two comets shot out and ended up crashing into Hades' army, causing a huge explosion that shook the place, filling it with dust.
The large cloud of dust covered the entire place, preventing Hades from seeing his troops and the damage that those comets could have caused.
He had gone to his faction's meeting when those intruders had entered his castle. Although he had wanted to go crush them in person, the meeting with Zeus and the rest had not allowed him to do so. So, feeling confident, he sent Pluto and Thanatos to eliminate them, trusting in their abilities. However, it seemed that those guys were more dangerous, as they somehow managed to eliminate Pluto, leaving him without his most loyal grim reaper. When he arrived and realized this, he tried to talk to Thanatos, but he did not respond. When he was tempted to go look for him in person, one of the few survivors of the explosion of that place, which had been completely obliterated by an explosion of great size and power, told him that Orcus had arrived before both Thanatos and the invaders will leave the place. That gave him the full picture of what had happened, so, thinking quickly, he decided to come see Orcus to reclaim his laboratory rats, which had been stolen.
'Fortunately, they destroyed the laboratory, that reassures me, since this has eliminated a lot of evidence from other investigations.' Hades thought with some calm about that issue, but he was still annoyed, because the most important information was missing. However, he couldn't think about it anymore, because two voices pulled him out of his thoughts.
"Cough, cough…Old man, this is the last time I follow you in an idea like this, next time we will use normal teleportation." A male voice said from inside the smoke screen.
"Oh, by Padomay, it wasn't that bad, heh, heh, heh… it was fun." Another male voice said laughing. "Although, I don't like this smoke and dirt, it ruins my new suit!"
After those words, a strong wind was present, dissipating the smoke and dust, allowing two individuals to be seen, which left Hades surprised.
Author's note:
To those who have made it this far, Thanks for reading. Because being honest, I don't know how to write much in English and I'm relying on Google translators and the dictionaries that come with office 2019.
And here is Chapter 66...
The first thing is to say that I'm sorry for not being able to upload this chapter earlier, but my life has been a hell since November 18. Everything has happened to me, and honestly, I prefer not to say more to avoid bringing back bad memories to my mind.
Now, having said that (sorry, but I needed to get some of that off my system), let's focus on the chapter... First, what do you think about the way artificial hybrids are created? I tried to make it as brutal as possible because it's Mannimarco who designed that process, and the old Altmer is not the kindest person in the world.
Now, I have taken Ophis and Le Fay to the world of Edzard, which means they will be more recurring in the fic. With this, we can say that we are already 50% through the story (at least that's my estimate).
Finally, it's not a big surprise who the beings in front of Hades are. A battle is coming in the next chapter, and I hope to live up to what I have envisioned in my mind.
Well, I apologize for any misspelling. Do not forget to leave a review if you liked the chapter or if there is something that needs to be improved or if you have any questions about the story. Also, any constructive advice is welcome. With nothing more to say, until the next chapter.
