Chapter Seven

Ice Time, Part Four

Ace was pacing angrily up and down Walters office; a look of intense fury etched on to her face. Walters just watched, feeling rather awkward in the current situation.

"Uh, if it makes you feel any better, the Doctor wanted to tell you, but I forbade it and said he'd have to leave if he interfered."

"So you're the reason the Doctor just took off!" snapped a horrified Ace, "You Time Lords must get a kick out of this: playing with people's lives!"

"Oh dear," muttered Walters, feeling that he'd really put his foot in it. The Time Lord then cleared his throat, "So, do you no longer hate the Doctor?"

The teen simply sighed. "It's not that I hate him," she began sadly, "The Doctor's given me a better life and a place where I actually feel welcome, it's just that I'm so sick and tired of him playing games and manipulating me: first Maiden's Point; then Gabriel Chase; now this."

"I'll understand if you don't want to continue the test," said Walters sympathetically, "The Doctor felt it was getting too dangerous for you and tried to get me to stop. I can easily do just that."

"No, I want to continue!" replied Ace firmly, "Besides, I wouldn't want to disappoint the Doctor, would I!"

"Excellent!" cheered Walters as he clapped his hands and rose to his feet, "So, what's your next move?"

"I-I'm not sure," replied an uncertain Ace, "I know I want to destroy Sezhyr, stop the Ice Warriors and somehow restore Anna. What happens next?"

"Even I'm unsure about that," admitted the Time Lord, "I only put some of the pieces into place, like hiring Sam, but now it's up to you, my dear. The fate of Earth's future now hangs in the balance."

"Wait, so you're the boss Sam keeps going on about!" cried the teen in realisation.

"Indeed I am." chuckled Walters before smiling and winking.

In the large freezer, Sezhyr approached Hhessh.

"Tell me, Lord Hhesssssh, hassssss there been any newssssssss from Mars?" asked Sezhyr.

"We have heard nothing in the past forty yearssssss," answered Hhessh, "Earth isssssssss now our only home."

"When we retrieve the energy cellssssss, we sssssshall be able to return to Marsssss." stated a determined Sezhyr.

Glarva entered the area, holding a struggling Felton around the neck. The Ice Warrior approached the two Ice Lords.

"Get your filthy claws off of me!" hollered Felton.

Glarva approached Felton and snarled. "Where are the energy cellsssssss you and your friends ssssssstole."

"I don't have them with me and neither does the girl!" spat Felton defiantly, "I believe the Doctor and Tollinger took them!"

"Where are they!" demanded Sezhyr angrily, "Tell me, or I'll kill you!"

"I have no idea," replied Felton earnestly, "But please, allow me to deal with the Doctor and Tollinger. That way, you lot can focus on finding the girl."

"That isssss accccceptable!" hissed Hhessh, "Glarva, releassssse him at once!"

The Ice Warrior released his grip on Felton, who promptly ran from the freezer.

"I will help to try and locate the girl." declared Hhessh before heading towards the freezer door and exiting.

Back in Walters' office, Ace was still pacing up and down. "Where's the Doctor right now!" she demanded.

"I honestly don't know," replied Walters, "My best guess is that he's with Sam, trying desperately to get back to you. I thought you said you'd never trust him again?"

"I still won't!" huffed Ace, "But I still want to see him again, even if it's just the once."

There was suddenly a light knock at the door.

"Come in." said Walters casually.

The door opened and Hhessh stepped into the room. Ace whirled round and took a few steps back; not knowing if the Ice Lord was still on her and the Doctor's side.

"Don't worry, he's on our side as well," informed Walters hurriedly as he came to stand between the two of them.

"What, really?" asked a surprised Ace.

"Yessssss," replied Hhessh, "Waltersssss discovered the ssssssship some time ago and ssssssssomehow had it brought to the big freezer. He'sssssss been a great help in repairing the ship, but it cannot leave thissssss planet without the energy cellsssssss."

"I'm guessing the Doctor must have them," said Ace in realisation, "The rest of your mates will be trying to hunt him and Sam down."

"Mr Felton isssss dealing with them," explained Hhessh, "I am sssssstarting to loosssssse trussssssst in Sssssezhyr and the other Ice Warrios. I have sssssseen Earth as a great refuge, but Sssssezhyr and the others intend to wipe humanity out in an act of revenge after we've returned to Marssssssss and Ssssssezhyr hassssss taken back power."

"That's barbaric!" cried a horrified Ace.

"Oh dear, now I wish I had been more in control," remarked Walters, who sounded embarrassed, "The only things I really did were telling Hhessh about the relics and hiring Sam. Sam was the one who contacted Anna. I honestly had no idea that any of this would happen. I'm a Time Lord by the way, Hhessh, just to let you know."

"We need to find the Doctor and Sam," stated Ace, "We need to warn them about Felton and the Ice Warriors."

"Take my car," suggested Walters as he picked up a set of car keys and threw them to Ace, who managed to catch them, "Hopefully, you can find the Doctor and Sam."

Ace nodded in understanding before gulping.

The Doctor and Sam were walking slowly through the streets of London; the Doctor had his umbrella open due to the rain. Sam had thankfully gotten directions from his contacts, so they were heading in the right direction.

"Why did we ditch the car again?" asked a slightly grumpy Sam.

"Because, I thought I saw somebody following us." explained the Time Lord.

"Oh yeah, suppose you can't be too careful." remarked Sam.

"So, have you thought of a name for the baby yet?" asked the Doctor.

"Not yet," replied Sam, "I'm wanting to wait until we can bring Anna back. We can do that, right?"

"The Orb of Alikyr is directly connected to Sezhyr's life force," informed the Doctor in a matter-of fact tone, "It's not directly killed Anna, it's simply transformed her into Sezhyr. I believe that once we destroy the orb, Anna will be fully restored."

"I hope you're right." replied Sam, sounding uncertain.

The Doctor was about to speak before suddenly stopping as he heard the sound of an engine revving.

"What on Earth's that?" asked Sam as the enging noises seemed to get louder and closer. The man could also hear more than one engine.

The duo turned around and their eyes widened in alarm at the sight of a group of bikers with Ice Warrior helmets riding towards them.

"It's Felton's biker gang!" cried the Doctor in alarm, "RUN!"

As one, the Doctor and Sam ran down the street as fast as they could; the bikers were hot on their tail.

In the large freezer, Sezhyr was pacing up and down while hissing in an agitated manner. "Glarva!" he snapped furiously.

"Yessssssss, my lord?" said Glarva as he approached the Ice Lord.

"Where issssss Lord Hhessssssssh?" demanded Sezhyr, who felt that Hhessh was taking too long.

"He isssssss probably dealing with the girl." answered Glarva.

"I do not trusssssst him," commented the Ice Lord, "He did not sssssssseem enthussssssiasssssstic about the idea of taking revenge on thissssssssss misssssserable planet. I believe he issssssss helping the humansssssssss."

"You would be right in thinking that," smirked Felton as he approached the duo, "I've just seen that Lord Hhessh leaving in a car with that girl."

Sezhyr and Glarva hissed furiously.

"Don't worry, I've got a plan to help capture them and bring them back here," assured Felton, "But I'll need your help."

Ace was currently driving through the streets of London in Walters car. The rain had now stopped. Hhessh was sitting in the front passenger seat. Hhessh's communicator suddenly started beeping. The Ice Lord answered and a miniture hologram of Sezhyr appeared.

"Lord Hhessssssssssh, return to bassssssssssse at once!" ordered Sezhyr angrily.

"I am ssssssssorry, my lord, but I cannot do that." said Hhessh calmly.

"You dare to defy a direct order from Sezhyr!" snapped the other Ice Lord furiously.

"Yessssssss, I dare," retorted Hhessh, "I ussssssssed to admire you, Lord Sssssssezhyr; all the stories about you insssssssspired me and ssssssssso many othersssssssssss, but I ssssssssee now that you are nothing more than a bloodthirsssssty warrior, eager to destroy all life becaussssssse of the actionsssssssss of a sssssselect few. Earth hassssssss become like a new home, and I will not join you in your crussssssssade to desssssssstroy humanity."

"You ssssssshall pay for that blasssssssphemy!" growled Sezhyr furiously.

Hhessh simply ended the call and Sezhyr's hologram vanished.

"Did you really mean all that?" asked Ace in astonishment.

"Yessssssss, Ace, I did," replied Hhessh, "Not all humansssssss are bad, ssssssssso you'll undersssssssstand that I can't allow Ssssssezhyr and the otherssssssss to condemn all of humanity to death."

Ace looked in the rear view mirror and was horrified when she recognised Felton's bikers, who were close behind them. "Hhessh, hold on tight, those bikers of Felton's are right behind us!"

Ace slammed her foot down on the accelerator and started swerving in an attempt to loose the bikers.

The Doctor and Sam ducked into an alleyway and pressed themselves against the wall just in time. The bikers that had been chasing them simply sped past them. The Doctor closed up his umbrella.

"I think we lost them." panted Sam, who was clutching at his chest.

"Good," said the Doctor as he came away from the wall and walked out of the alleyway, "but we can't stop now: we still need to get to that cold storage facility, rescue Ace and destroy Sezhyr once and for all."

"Right." uttered Sam as he followed the Doctor.

Ace continued to try and avoid the bikers as she followed the directions to Walters house. Ace drove on to a street and brought the car to a screeching halt. The teen checked the rear view mirror and was relieved to see that the bikers were no longer right behind them. Ace and Hhessh got out of the car and walked up the driveway of the house that was meant to be Walters. The young girl knocked on the door. "Hello?" she called out, "Is anybody there?"

The door suddenly swung open and Ace gasped before stepping back in shock. Standing in the doorway was an Ice Warrior.

"How did you get here!" demanded Hhessh.

"Felton informed Lord Sssssssezhyr of your treachery," informed the Ice Warrior, "He became aware of your friendsssssship with the owner of our bassssssssse, ssssssssso, he gave me a teleport device that allowed me to get into this house. Felton ssssssssent sssssssome of hisssssss men after you in order to drive you towards thisssssssss location. Now, you will come with me."

Ace and Hhessh slowly raised their hands in surrender.

Back in the large freezer, Sezhyr, Glarva and the remaining Ice Warriors watched as Ace and Hhessh were frogmarched into the freezer by their Ice Warrior captor. The two were brought in front of Sezhyr and Glarva.

"Lord Hhessssssh, you have been found guilty of consssssspiring against your fellow Ice Warriors!" said Sezhyr firmly, "Issssss there anything you wissssssssh to ssssssay?"

"The only thing I wissssssh to ssssssay isssssss that I regret embarking on this missssssion to ressssssurect you!" snarled Hhessh defiantly, "The Ice Warriorsssssss are a noble race, yet you are leading ussssss to wipe out an entire race in an act of revenge!"

"Do not ssspout sssssuch blasssssphemy!" snapped Glarva.

"Lord Hhesssssssh, I hereby sssssentence you to death!" declared Sezhyr.

Sezhyr then aimed his arm at Hhessh and fired his sonic gun. A bolt of red energy struck Hhessh, who shrieked in agony before collapsing to the floor, dead.

"NNNNNNOOOO!" yelled Ace in despair.

Without thinking, the teen charged at Sezhyr, but Glarva quickly grabbed her before spinning the girl around and then wrapping an arm around her neck. Sezhyr then approached Ace.

"I'm not going to kill you," informed Sezhyr before snickering, "The Doctor hassssss the energy cells, and I have a feeling that he'll want to come back here in an attempt to rescue you. You'll be ussssed assssss a hosssssstage in order to get the energy cells back."

"The Doctor doesn't care about me, so he won't care!" said a defiant Ace before spitting in Sezhyr's face.

"Noncensssssse," sneered the Ice Lord, "I can read the Carlton girl's mind: he sssssssseems to care about you."

The Doctor and Sam arrived outside the gates to the cold storage facility. Seeing that they were open, the Doctor and Sam raced into the car park and towards the front doors, which suddenly swung open. Sezhyr marched out first, followed by the other Ice Warriors and lastly Glarva, who still had his arm wrapped around Ace's neck.

"Doctor," began Sezhyr in a dangerous manner, "We know you have the energy cells. Place them on the ground and Glarva will releasssssssse your friend. If you do not comply within ten seconds, then I will order him to snap the young girl's neck."

"Okay, okay, you can have the energy cells back," said the Docto4 nervously, "Just don't hurt Ace.

"The energy cells first!" demanded Sezhyr firmly.

The Doctor slowly reached into his pockets and pulled the energy cells out, he then slowly placed them on the ground. "Now Ace!" he demanded.

Glarva released his grip on Ace, who kicked the Ice Warrior in the shin before running over to the Doctor, who gave her a hug. At the same time, Glarva walked over and picked up the energy cells.

"Hhessh is dead," muttered Ace as she stepped away from the Doctor and glared at him with utter hatred, "Why didn't you tell me about the test!"

"Y-you know about the test?" asked the Doctor sheepishly.

"OF COURSE I KNOW!" bellowed the teen, tears streaming down her face, "Mr Walters, the guy that owns this place, is a Time Lord. He told me because he thought you'd told me! A-all this time, y-you've just been using me in order to send me off to some school on Gallifrey!"

"Not all the time," said the Doctor defensively, "After the events at Gabriel Chase, I decided that you could be a great help to the Time Lords. First, I did my own test by getting us to go undercover on the Vancouver, then when I saw how well you did, I contacted the Time Lords and they set up this test."

"And you didn't think to ask what I wanted!" snapped Ace, "You have no right to control my life! I forgave you after Maiden's Point and Gabrial Chase, but this time, you've gone too far!"

"I didn't know what the test was going to entail," insisted the Doctor in an almost pleading manner, "I tried to convince the Adjudicator to stop, but he wouldn't listen, and then he forced me to leave you!"

Ace simply ignored the Doctor. She whirled round to face Sezhyr and the rest of the Ice Warriors, who were slowly heading back into the building. "HEY!" she hollered while storming towards the group, "COM3 BACK AND FIGHT!"

Sezhyr and the others turned back to face the teen.

"Ace, please don't!" begged the Doctor in a terrified manner, "They're too powerful!"

"Listen to your sssssso-called friend!" hissed Sezhyr mockingly, "A puny human couldn't posssssssibly defeat me."

"Oh, I wouldn't want to disappoint anybody!" snarked Ace, "But it seems like you do! What's the matter: too afraid to fight a girl!"

"DO NOT MOCK ME!" thundered Sezhyr, "If you wisssssssh to die by trying to fight an Ice Lord, then ssssssssso be it!"

"Alright, but first, I want a promise," demanded Ace, "If I win, you and the rest of your reptile mates leave this planet in peace and leave the relics with us. If I loose, then you can do what you like."

"That isssssss acceptable!" hissed Sezhyr before snickering, "It won't matter anyway: no humansssss can beat the wrath of the Ice Warriors."

"Ace, please." begged the Doctor.

"You don't want to do this, sweetheart!" cried a frightened Sam.

"You stay out of this!" snapped Ace, "This is for Eugene, Jack, Anna and Hhessh!"

Before anything more could be said or done, the sound of revving engines could be heard. Felton's bikers suddenly sped into the area and screeched to a halt. Felton then marched into the car park; several MI6 agents following close behind.

"What isssssss the meaning of thisssssss!" demanded Sezhyr.

"Those martian relics are property of the British government!" declared Felton, "You will surrender yourselves and the weapons to us. You will be experimented on and your weapons will help us win the cold war. As for the Doctor and his friends, they shall be arrested and sent to jail for high treason!"

"How dare you!" growled the Ice Lord furiously as he observed the Ice Warrior shaped helmets, "How dare you make a mockery of my people by mimicking our helmetssssssss! Kill thesssssse humansssssss! Kill them all!"

The Doctor, Sam and Ace scattered as all Hell broke loose. The MI6 agents, Felton and the bikers began firing on the Ice Warriors as they slowly advanced on them; the bullets pinging harmlessly off of their armour. The Ice Warriors began firing their sonic guns at the agents and bikers; successfully hitting a few of them.

Sezhyr turned his head and spotted Ace and Sam running towards the main entrance to the building. The Ice Lord snarled before turning around and storming towards the building.

The Doctor was currently crouching behind a bush with his face screwed up in a look of concentration. "Adjudicator? Adjudicator, where are you?" he called out in his mind, "The test has spiralled out of control: put an end to it, please."

But there was no response from the Time Lord. The Doctor growled with frustration. "Where are you?" he muttered furiously.

Walters was currently scurrying around his office and packing things away into a massive suitcase. Sam suddenly burst through the office door and stopped dead in his tracks. "Mr Walters, it's went flamin' mad!" he cried breathlessly before noticing that Walters had been packing, "Are you going somewhere?"

"Y-yes, I'm rather afraid that I'll have to dash," informed Walters, not paying much attention to Sam, "The test has not gone the way I had hoped, and I think the Time Lords will be rather angry that I let things go this far."

"What the heck are you on about?" asked an utterly confused Sam.

"I'm sorry, Tollinger, but I've no time to explain," said Walters as he zipped up his suitcase and headed for the door, he then turned to smile at Sam, "Ace is the only one who can put a stop to Sezhyr now."

And with that, Walters exited his office, leaving an utterly confused Sam standing there.

Ace dashed into the large freezer and made a beeline for the crate containing the relics, she then bent down and pulled out a sword, followed by the Orb of Alikyr, which resembled a medium sized orange, glowing orb. The teen tensed up as she heard a low hiss coming from nearby, she then turned and saw Sezhyr slowly approaching her. "Leave thosssssse itemssssss alone!" he hissed furiously.

"Ace!" cried the Doctor as he burst into the freezer, "The Orb of Alikyr is directly connected to Sezhyr's life force: destroy it, and Sezhyr will be finished for good!"

The Doctor dived out of the way just in time to avoid an energy beam from Sezhyr's sonic gun.

"Oi you oversized crocodile!" taunted Ace as she raised the sword above the orb, "It's me you want to stop!"

"SSSSSSSSTOP!" yelled the horrified Ice Lord as he charged towards the teen.

Ace brought the sword down and shattered the orb into tiny fragments and sending out a small ball of orange energy that threw Ace back a few feet.

Sam raced into the room, followed by Glarva and the other Ice Warriors.

Sezhyr stopped and shrieked in agony while clutching the sides of his helmet, "NNNNNNOOOO!" he screamed in horror before falling to his knees. The Ice Lord began glowing a brilliant emerald as he continued to scream in agony. "THISSSSSSS CANNOT BE THE END!" he roared as his voice became distorted.

Sezhyr fell on to his back. His whole body was engulfed in the emerald green light, which was followed by his scream fading away. The light faded away to reveal Anna lying on the floor; the Ice Warrior helmet still on her head. Anna let out a soft groan before slowly sitting up and removing the helmet, which she threw to the floor. "Uggh, what happened?" she groaned.

"Anna, you're alive!" cried Sam in relief as he ran over to the blonde before helping her to her feet and sharing a hug.

"O-of course I'm alive," said Anna as she and Sam parted from the hug, "Where are we? Is the baby okay?"

"She's more than okay, she's perfect," commented Sam, "I-I think I'm ready to settle down now and start a family with you."

The two then shared a big kiss.

The Doctor turned to face Glarva and the remaining Ice Warriors. "Well, Ace has won fair and square: Sezhyr is gone for good, so a deal's a deal."

"We accept thisssssss defeat." said Glarva before bowing with the other Ice Warriors.

While one of the Ice Warriors headed over to the ship, Glarva and another Ice Warrior walked over to Hhessh's lifeless body, grabbed his feet and began dragging it towards the ship.

The Doctor turned to look at the spot where Ace should have been, but he was surprised to see that she wasn't there.

"Ace?" called the Doctor in confusion, "Ace, where are you?"

"She can't have just slipped out without us noticing." said a concerned Sam.

The Doctor, Sam and Anna ran out of the building and into the car park. Sam was carrying the crate that contained the relics.

"ACE!" hollered the Doctor.

Sadly, there was no sign of the teen. The only other things in the car park were the dead bodies of Felton, the MI6 agents and the bikers, along with the burning remains of their bikes.

"Have they taken you away already," muttered the Doctor sadly before sighing, "Oh Ace, I never even got to say goodbye, or to say how sorry I am."

"Come on, Doctor, we need to get moving before the police arrive." said Sam as he grabbed the £octor's arm, bringing him out of his thoughts.

"Rrrrrrright you are." replied the Doctor.

The trio then raced out of the car park.

Not long after, the Doctor, Sam and Anna were sitting in the living room of Sam's mum's house. Anna was cradling her baby girl in her arms, Sam was sitting next to her; both smiling down at their precious daughter.

"So, have you thought of a name yet?" asked the Doctor.

"Katie," replied Sam, smiling, "Katie Raine Tollinger."

"A wonderful name." remarked the Doctor, beaming.

"So, what's going to happen to us now?" asked Anna in concern.

"Well, I managed to expose Felton," informed the Doctor, "Turns out that all the experiments were rogue and unsanctioned by the British government. His project has been shut down. As for the relics, well, I'll let you two keep a hold of them."

"You mean it?" said a surprised Sam.

"I trust you both not to use them and to find a good hiding place," said the Doctor before rising to his feet, "Well, I must be off. I think Katie has a bright future ahead of her."

"Doctor," began Sam quietly, "I hope you find Ace and make things right between you two."

"So do I." muttered the Doctor before walking out of the living room.

The Doctor walked down the empty street; a saddened expression on his face. The Doctor reached the TARDIS and was just about to pull his key out when suddenly-

"Doctor." said a familiar voice from behind.

The Doctor turned and saw Walters standing just a few feet away.

"Oh, so now you decide to show up!" snarked the Doctor in a dangerous manner, "It's a bit late now though!"

"Yes, I probably should've kept the situation more under control," lamented Walters, "The Time Lords are not too pleased with how I handled the situation.

"You could've gotten Ace killed!" snapped the Doctor angrily before composing himself, "Speaking of whom, where is Ace?"

"We took her not long after Miss Carlton was restored," informed Walters, "And despite some setbacks, Ace has passed the test and will be enrolled into the Time Lord Academy."

"Good girl," said the Doctor proudly, "Can I please go and say goodbye to her?"

"Of course." replied Walters.

In the Time Lord Academy on Gallifrey, Ace was standing in the main hallway. She was now wearing Prydonian Chapter robes, but had pinned her badges to them.

"Ace." said a familiar voice from behind.

Ace turned around and saw the Doctor standing in front of her; a stoic expression on his face. "What do you want?" she asked through gritted teeth.

"I simply came to say goodbye." said the Doctor quietly.

"Well, you've said goodbye, Doctor, now clear off and leave me alone!" huffed Ace.

"You didn't call me Professor this time." pointed out the Doctor.

"Yeah, well that's kid's stuff, time to grow up now." remarked the teen coldly.

"I never did get the hang of grrrrrrowing up," chuckled the Doctor, "I'm sorry that I never told you about the test and that I lied to you at various points during our trrrrravels. I should've asked you if you wanted to go to the academy instead of forcing it on you."

"Yeah, well, I'm still not willing to go," stated Ace before letting out a sad sigh, "and to be honest, 1967 London was naff."

"I actually think you'd be a good influence on the young Time Lords," said the Doctor, "You could try and help shape the next generation of Time Lords so that they can be better than the last; make the whole race better, and you'd have more responsibility.

"Hmmmm, that actually sounds pretty wicked," commen5ed Ace, smiling happily, "Alright, I guess I'll give this academy a try."

"Good girl." replied the Doctor proudly.

The two then shared a hug before parting from it.

"Goodbye, Professor, I'll never forget you." said Ace, smiling sadly.

"And I'll always rrrrrremember you." said the Doctor before tapping Ace on the nose.

Ace then watched as the Doctor walked away and over to the TARDIS, the Doctor then entered. Ace watched as the TARDIS slowly faded in and out of existence before vanishing completely.

(AN) And that was the final part of Ice Time in this unofficial fan novelisation. The next story will be a three parter called Crime of the Century.

Next time: The year is 1990. In London, safe cracker Katie Tollinger breaks into a house and finds more than just the family jewels.

Until then, this is TimeLordMaster108 signing out.
