Prologue — 00

Beneath the vast expanse of the sky, Sonic lay serenely in a meadow. The soft blades of grass cradling him as he gazed upward, finding tranquility in the gentle rustle of leaves and the warmth of sunlight filtering through the trees.

"Hello, Sonikku. It's me, Amy. Again." A familiar sweet voice greeted him as he heard her call.

"Ames?" His eyes lit up, a genuine smile forming as he sat up. "You're back again? Got a new story to tell me?"

Amy stood smiling closeby with her short quills dancing freely in the wind, a playful choreography of strands lifted and swirled by nature's gentle breath with her joyous expression radiating a youthful charm.

However, Sonic observed the subtle undercurrent of sadness in her expression despite her smile.

"Why do you look so sad?" He asked, standing up as he walked over to her.

"Today I came to say goodbye." She admitted, looking away with her hands clasped behind her back.

"Goodbye? What do you mean? Are you going on a trip?"

"You know, Sonic… I miss you a lot." Amy said, her voice laced with sadness.

Sonic tilted his head at her playfully as he attempted to look her in the eyes. "What are you talking about Amy? I'm right here."

She shook her head. "I need to let you go… I can't be selfish anymore." She turned around, walking away from him. "Maybe I'll forever keep a flame burning for you, even if it means enduring the pain as it sears my hand. Even when the light has faded into the past, I'll linger in the shadows, clutching what little remains, simply because I can't bring myself to let go."

"Ames…? What are you talking about? What flame?" Sonic grabbed her by the wrist, turning to look at her teary-eyed face with uneasiness. "What's going on, Ames? You're not making any sense!"

"I only ask one thing from you." She gently lay her hands on his chest, looking up at him with longing as she caressed his cheek. "If your arms can't hold me at least hold my memory close, and if I can't walk alongside you in life, then let my love linger and dance eternally in your heart." And with that, she tiptoed and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. "Goodbye, Sonic the Hedgehog, my eternal hero."

The kiss, gentle, short, and sweet left Sonic momentarily dazed, his senses tingling as if caught in a delightful whirlwind. A blush crept across his cheeks, an involuntary response to the surprise that had unfolded. His heart, once a steady rhythm, now seemed to dance to a newfound melody.

"Ames! What's gotten into you?" He covered his mouth in disbelief, turning away as he tried to calm his heart.

The sound of a shaky breath and weeping filled his ears, distracting him from his unsettled heart. His eyes found themselves back to Amy and he felt shocked. Her face, once a canvas of joy and warmth, now bore the poignant strokes of vulnerability. The delicate features were contoured with traces of anguish, as tear-streaked cheeks betrayed the silent storm within. The glow of her eyes, once vibrant, now dimmed under the weight of sorrow.

"Ames…? Hey! Ames! What's wrong? Why are you crying? I'm not leaving you! I'm here! Don't you see me? I'm not leaving you!" He told her, embracing her in his arms.

"Don't you remember, Sonic?" She told him, shaking her head.

"Remember what?" He asked her, pulling away to look into her eyes. "Talk to me, Ames. What's happening?"

"Sonic." She placed her hands on his chest again and looked him straight in the eye. "You're dreaming and it's time to wake up."

Sonic stared at her in utter confusion. She was speaking nonsense. As he opened his mouth to question her again, the ground beneath suddenly began to sink in water. "Amy! What's going on?!" He couldn't move.

"Remember, Sonic, and wake up." She said, pushing him so he fell into the meadow which now was more like quicksand as he sunk into what seemed like a pool of water.

"AMY!" Sonic fought against the relentless pull, his every movement met with an insidious resistance as he looked desperately up at the pink hedgehog walking away. "No Ames! DON'T LEAVE ME!" He yelled, then found himself sinking deep into the water.

With a resounding splash, he broke through the liquid barrier, the immersion instantaneous. The water enveloped him like a liquid embrace, momentarily obscuring the outside world. Bubbles danced around him, and the muffled symphony of underwater currents became the backdrop to his submerged descent.

In the grip of the water's embrace, his mind became a blank canvas, thoughts dissipating like ripples on the surface. With a quiet acknowledgment, he allowed the water to cradle him, becoming one with the fluid surroundings. In this suspended tranquility, he found an unexpected serenity, an acknowledgment that, for a fleeting moment, the submerged depths held a different kind of beauty – one that transcended the initial chaos of the fall.

Remember, something in his mind warned him. Wake up or you'll lose her!

Lose? Lose who?

In the aquatic hush, a distant voice pierced through the murky water, a melody of sound that cut through the surreal quietude. The words reached him as if carried by unseen currents, echoing in a way that defied the underwater realm's usual silence.

A splash and pink quills clouded his vision.

As he blinked slowly, he saw none other than Amy swimming down to him with desperation in her eyes and her face stained with tears.

Ames…? Sonic asked in his mind. Why are you crying?

Vibrations from the explosions reverberated through the water, creating a disconcerting dance of distorted sound waves. The once serene underwater world now bore witness to the tumultuous spectacle as the explosions manifested as bursts of light and shockwaves, their intensity muted by the aquatic medium.

Ah, that's right. I remember now. I'm dying…

Through the distorted lens of water, the explosions painted an eerie tableau above, a silent ballet of destruction. Debris floated down like surreal confetti, and the underwater currents carried traces of the tumult above. Despite that, Amy looked beautiful as she transcended down to him, reaching out her hands as he sunk deeper.

Don't cry.

Sonic reached out to her.

I won't leave you.
