Korra had had a long day. Not only did she have to help rebuild Republic City, but also figure out a way to identify the next Avatar, since a brand new cycle had begun. Korra didn't want her next life to suffer the way she and Aang had, the weight of the world on such young shoulders. It was only recently that Korra began developing an identity outside of being the Avatar, and that took painful experiences and a three year journey to find herself. Even now, she struggled. Her next life would not be kept on a leash and controlled by others. Aang was lucky he had 12 years to forge his own identity, but 12 years might not've been enough.

It was a cool evening, bound to get cold that night. Korra, feeling very tired and worn out, was ridding home on Naga. Suddenly, she felt something. It felt like a cry for help, a prayer.

Feeling renewed, the Avatar made her animal companion change course, and the two found themselves in a small abandoned building. Korra dismounted, and used Seismic Sense to feel where the people were.

She sensed a group of five small people, probably children. Her heart sank as she remembered tales of Mako and Bolin's childhoods. She created a flame, and made her way to them. When she found them, she saw the children gathered around a small fire, trying to cheer themselves up.

"Hello?" Korra called out, "Did anyone pray for help?"

"I did!" A young girl answered. She looked thin, too thin, and young. "Are you Avatar Korra?"

"Yes I am." Korra answered.

"I knew you'd come!" The girl cried, and ran up to her in a hug. She was just above Korra's knees. "I'm Ami. Can you help us? Dad's been terrible since Mom died. We can't go home! But we don't have anywhere else to go, and the nights are getting colder."

Korra put her flame out and hugged the girl. She knew what it was like to be lost, but she always had a home to go back to. These kids just had this old building, which was sure to be used as a hideout for one of the triads soon. She didn't want them to end up like Mako and Bolin.

"Don't worry." Korra soothed, "You all can stay with me until we figure something out." Then she looked to the others, "If that's ok with you."

The oldest two looked at each other, then whispered something. Finally, the oldest one turned to the Avatar and said, "We'd love to."

"Yay!" Ami cried.

"Now lets get ready." Korra replied with a smile, "Do you have a lot of stuff?"

"Just some money, food, water, and blankets." The 2nd-oldest child answered, "I'm Aella by the way."

"Aella's a pretty name." Korra said, "Ami too."

Ami gave the Avatar a large bright smile.

"Thank you Miss Avatar." Aella politely replied.

"You're welcome." Korra genuinely replied, "You can call me Korra."

The children nodded.

"Ami, can you help me pack?" The oldest child asked, in a sweet and fatherly tone.

"Sure Azar." Ami replied and happily went to help her brother.

Korra helped Aella with the two youngest children, both were toddlers by the looks of it. The older one was named Benji, and the younger one was named Dakota.

Then the children's stuff was gathered, and the fire was put out. Korra lead them to where Naga was waiting for them. The children were in awe and slight fear of the large polar bear dog.

"Naga, you've got more riders." Korra sweetly greeted.

Naga looked at the children warily.

"They have no where else to go. I'm sure they won't be too much trouble." Korra sweetly said, then she helped the children onto her saddle. It was a tight fit, but they managed to make it work. Azar sat in the back, with his family's stuff in a pack on his back. He wrapped his arms tightly around Benji. In front of them was Aella, who wore a pack of her own and held on to Dakota. Korra sat in front of them, holding on to both the reigns and Ami.

It was a bumpy ride, but no one fell off. Korra remembered the stories the previous Team Avatar told her about their adventures. How there was always room on Appa, and it never felt like they were squeezed in. Also, there was never a constant fear of falling off. This was going to be difficult.

As the group rode to the Sato mansion, Korra asked, "So how old are you?"

"I'm 4." Ami answered, "Azar's 8, Aella's 6, Ben's almost 3, and Kota's 2."

Korra's heart sank. "So young." She breathed. Mako and Bolin were Azar and Aella's age when they were forced onto the streets. She gripped Ami tighter.

"Are you ok?" Ami asked.

Korra snapped out of her thoughts and replied, "Oh, yeah. I'm fine." She took a breath. "It's just, you're too young to be on your own."

"We've been on our own for a while." Azar remarked. "Before he lost his job, our dad was either at work or at the bar after Mom died. And when he was home," The young boy shuddered.

"We had to hide in the cellar!" Ami cried.

"The cellar?" Korra asked in disbelief.

"Yeah. Me, Ben and Kota. Aella was usually with us, and sometimes Azar would be too." Ami replied. "There would be all sorts of terrible sounds! And whoever was left out would be all beat up!"

Korra gasped. How could this have happened under everyone's noses! Especially with all the patrols going on. She would go to the police station the next day and give Lin and Mako a piece of her mind!

"It wasn't so bad." Aella replied, "Our mom was a water-bender, and had some scrolls laying around."

"So, you're water-benders?" Korra asked.

"I am!" Ami exclaimed. "Aella and Azar helped me learn from the scrolls and what they remember Mommy doing."

"Did you heal your siblings?" Korra asked.

"Yes, but I wasn't very good." Ami answered.

"You're young." Korra answered, "I'm sure once you get older and have proper teaching, you'll be as good as Master Katara."

Ami lit up, "You think so!"

"Of course! I can teach you myself if you want." Korra offered.

"Yay!" Ami cried. "The Avatar's teaching me water-bending!"

The others couldn't help but smile at the girl's amusement.

Korra turned her head to look at the others, "So, can you bend?"

Aella and Azar nodded.

"I'm a fire-bender." Azar answered, "Like our Aunt Blaze. She was in the army, and died shortly after Dad lost his job."

"Oh, I'm sorry."

Azar gripped Benji tighter, "And she was the only other family member who cared about us." Azar looked like he was about to cry. If his siblings and Korra didn't have their hands full, they would've hugged him.

"I'm an airbender." Aella stated, changing the subject.

"You are?" Korra asked in disbelief.

Aella nodded, "I discovered my abilities shortly after Mom died. I was going to get training, but I didn't want to leave my family."

"I could train you." Korra offered, then a thought came to her, "Or I could have Jinora come over."

"I'd like that." Aella answered with a smile, "I'd be honored to meet Master Jinora. I hope you won't be too busy."

"Don't worry." Korra replied, "I have enough free time, and I'm sure Jinora would love to have a student."

Aella smiled brightly. Something in her fully flourished. It was the feeling of hope.

After a moment, Ami asked, "Will you teach Ben earthbending?"

"Benji's an earthbender?" Korra asked. She'd never heard of four siblings who could bend all four elements.

"We think." Azar answered. "He's shown some signs." He hesitated before adding, "Our dad's an earthbender, and we took some of his scrolls."

Korra nodded. After a while, she cheerfully said, "Well if he is, that'll make you four the only siblings I know that represent the four nations."

That put a smile on the children's faces. It made them feel like the embodiment of The United Republic of Nations.
