Chapter 2: Evolution Today
"You are cutting my funds."
The president of the HPSC nodded as Izuku kept his blank look "I am. For more impressive your work has been the last years, since you arrived, but the T-Virus isn't progressing as we expected and the G-Virus, we don't see it being useful in the future."
Izuku frowned "But if you cut my funding, no virus will be advancing. Besides the Uroboros vi-"
"Is not approved. And until you don't show some improvement in your current projects, it never will."
Izuku closed his eyes and took a deep breath "Something else, Miss President?"
"No, you may leave."
As Izuku walked to his lab, he couldn't help but to get angry at the idiocy! How can they stop him so close to the end! The Tyrant Virus or T-Virus for short, is the perfect weapon. Being able to infect any tissue, including dead tissue.
And once it infects dead tissue, it becomes animated.
It is something amazing. To see how a corpse comes back to life... well, once you are infected, it doesn't matter if you are alive or dead, it won't make a difference.
Certain parts of the brain erodes while others are sent into overdrive, making the host of the T-Virus aggressive and will always be hungry. The infected won't get tired or ask anything. If you unleash the virus in an enemy base, it is to see how they kill each other.
Well, we haven't gotten there yet. There still isn't a safe way to contain the virus. All field test with prisoners, the only way to dispose the infected was to incinerate them, the T-Virus not being able to survive being burned.
And the Golgotha Virus or G-Virus. This... is not a weapon and never was intended to be. Using the results of the only survivor of the initial tests of the Progenitor Virus, Lisa Trevor, it mutates the user over and over.
Sadly, no specimen has survived the initial infection, and had been reduced as larvas and embryos or humanoids scarred with tumors all over their bodies.
As he sat on his chair, he examined the progress of this viruses. Izuku pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed... this... is a bad situation.
He knows the story oh so well. First the funds, then the projects, then the responsibilities and depending how much you know... well you can imagine what would come.
Giving his notice, he can give himself one year before his... release. So, he better come with something big. Soon.
He opened another folder, with Uroboros Project on the cover. This... this is his chance.
Izuku's phone started to ring and with a sigh he picked up "Yes?"
"Hey Izuku!" Izuku smiled at who was calling him.
"Katsuki, how was the entrance exam?"
He can hear him smirking "It was easy! One step closer to becoming the number one!"
Izuku chuckled "I can't wait for that."
Katsuki laughed "Hey, are you coming home today? The Old Hag said she was cooking."
Izuku hummed and turned to the folder on his desk "I... don't think I can. Work."
"Che, are they still exploiting you!?"
Izuku laughed "Don't worry about things like that. That is my job. Anway's got to go back."
Katsuki hummed "Take care of yourself, you hear me!?"
Izuku smiled "Always." And with that, he hung up.
He turned to the folder. The Uroboros Virus. It was approved for a very short time but was cancelled due to it being too unstable.
No test subject survived. And the data recompiled was... useless. It destroys all organisms in the most gruesome ways. And once the host dies, the virus dies too.
It is... impossible to test right now. The HPSC already rejected for him to test on new subjects the T-Virus, the G-Virus has been in purgatory for months and the less said about Uroboros the better.
"Yo Doc! How is the science going!?" Hawks asked as he enter the lab. Izuku quickly hid the Uroboros folder and smiled at him.
"As good as it can go. How was your day?"
Hawks, his protégé per say. If it wasn't for him, Keigo Takami would be another Lady Nagant case. But instead, he is the Number 3 Hero of the country.
Keigo trusts Izuku with his life. And Izuku had used that in his favor. Hawks is the golden boy of the HPSC, and due to that, Keigo had been able to get him some favors from the superiors. And even, he volunteered to test an anti-body for the T-Virus.
Sadly, he doubts it will be useful how things are going.
Hawks grinned "Well, I did some science of my own. I went to testing ground 3, know, the one with some infected roaming around." Izuku eyes widen.
"Please tell me you used the safety gear."
"The thing is, I tested the anti-virus-"
"Anti-Body."
"Right; and I went there like this."
Izuku pushed Hawks down and rolled his sleeve "You idiot! The anti-body isn't fully tested! The chances of you being infected is sure!" He took out a serum "I'll try to contain it but-"
"Doc, it was last week." Hawks smiled as Izuku stopped "I know it was dangerous, but hey, I trusted you and I was fine."
Izuku looked shocked and nodded "One week... I need to take a sample."
Hawks smirked as Izuku went for a needle connected to a test tube "You are welcome by the way."
Hours later, Izuku was on the lab looking how Keigo's blood was indeed immune to the effects of the T-Virus. With this development, he is guaranteed more time to continue his research. Just for the fact that with giving the anti-bodies to the cleanup crews, they can get rid of the infected.
Of course, some safety tests must be done to make sure that it works and that Keigo isn't an isolated case. As Izuku held the test tube with Keigo's blood, he wondered... will it work with another virus?
He glanced at the Uroboros folder. There might be a chance... but he needs a subject. A subject that won't be given by the HPSC.
He started to process Keigo's blood into a safe serum, put it in a needle, rolled his sleeve...
And with a deep breath, injected himself with the new serum.
He could have used the original anti-body formula, but if Keigo is an isolated case... he must run this risk...
He took his notebook as after some minutes, he started to show some symptoms, like fever, nausea. After an hour, he started to sweat and throw up. And then...
He felt fine. More than that... he felt great. Not only with his body feeling... better than before. But because the realization he had.
He got a new test subject for Uroboros.
