One of the primary reasons why he had built the Time Machine in the first place was simply to explore Time, and to discover new knowledge; when he had first pushed the lever into the future, the Time Traveller had never once imagined that he and his machine would find a world where humans had split off into two separate species as a result of natural disasters and global wars (the Time Traveller had learnt later on after he had begun exploring different points in history that humanity would split off into a third group and would escape into space, and that had delighted him no end).
The Time Traveller had developed many theories about time travel long before he had actually begun building his Time Machine. Once he had experimented on the Plattnerite, that mineral which allowed him to travel through time, the Time Traveller had looked into the scientific papers on time so that he could properly understand it and use them to build the Time Machine.
While so many people still wrangled over it, the Fourth Dimension existed; alright, right now, the Time Traveller knew the Time Machine somehow slipped sideways in time and travelled into alternative universes. He had visited the 21st century and he had found several scientific papers and books concerning time travel, while many of the theories were nothing like what he had used for the Time Machine, which proved they hadn't discovered Plattnerite, he had liked the many-worlds theory, which stated time travel was only possible by slipping sideways into a parallel world where time travel was common, and that instead of using a complicated method like wormholes, using technology currently unavailable although he was unsure if it would be possible at all, the time traveller instead slipped into a parallel universe where time travel was possible.
The Time Traveller took the books with him, his brain ringing with the possibilities. How many times had he travelled into times he had known and visited, only to find everything so different?
In one reality, he had found the Morlocks as the masters of the world, hunting down the Eloi for sport, believing them to be de-evolved while having advanced technology.
In another, he'd found the Eloi the rulers of a massive empire across the solar system (the Time Traveller would not think of the weeks he'd spent trying to fight off the Eloi before he met a band of Morlocks willing to help him.
Once he had travelled into a world where the Morlocks and the Eloi were fighting a war, nothing like the atomic wars he had seen in the past.
But by far, one of the worst versions of the year 802,701AD he had visited was when he had found a heavily polluted Earth, with the last survivors of the human race being driven closer and closer to the edge into extinction by a race of vampires. There was no sign of the Eloi or the Morlocks, and he had looked.
But the Time Traveller had found a way of moving through space after modifying his Time Machine; if you walked across a room or a railway platform, you moved through time. With his new and improved Time Machine, the Time Traveller had visited dozens of places throughout history; he had visited Rome, drank with Persians, and impersonated a noble of Ancient Egypt, but he had grown bored. He was tired of looking at the varying forms of Earth's entire history, but as he travelled he saw more worlds where space travel was extremely common and he decided to travel through the solar system and learn more about the wonders of the universe, but as he visited one or two worlds he learnt Earth was the only planet with breathable air.
He could travel to Venus, and his Time Machine could be crushed by the pressures within the atmosphere long before he died himself, the asteroids were exposed to the vacuum of space, which would be fatal to him since he would be inside the Time Machine and it was open-aired.
The Time Traveller decided to redesign the Time Machine and make it fully airtight, he had also acquired (stolen) pieces of advanced technology from several different realities, and he had needed a while to put them all together again. Likewise, he had 'borrowed' several spacesuits and supplies, and he returned to his home time.
Once there, he used the technology he had available and what he'd stolen here and there, and he began modifying the Time Machine and used it as a blueprint for his work. While he worked, the Time Traveller rendered the Time Machine into a Space Sphere, and he turned his machine into an engine for the Space Sphere.
The Sphere was built from steel and some of the alloys he had picked up from the future getting them to his home time had been a nightmare, but he was relieved that he had.
As he looked up at the massive shape of the Sphere, knowing inside its depths was the Time Machine, the Time Traveller was looking forward to using it to explore space.
