Welcome to my first major work - A Second Chance at Life (ASCL).
Inspired by the works 'Play it again, Ash' by MrWriterWriter, the 'Pokémon: Shadow of Time' series by Ron the True Fan, and 'Ashes of the Past' by Saphroneth.
And yes, Ash will be in a polyamorous relationship, and no, there won't be explicit sex scenes - definitely a lot of innuendo and debauchery later in the story, but no explicit smut.
I do not own Pokémon or any related items.
This chapter has been updated on 12/29/2022 - if you've read it before this date, read it again.

Chapter 001 – Restoring what was broken
In a higher plane of existence, known as the Hall of Origin, outside the realm of people and most Pokémon, stood Arceus, the creator. From here, He would occasionally observe the mortal world, and on this day, was focused upon His chosen, Ash Ketchum, facing off against a worthy adversary in the form of Island Guardian Tapu Koko, in a majestic clash of power.
But as the creator observed His champion, He began to wonder as to why it would take him so long to wield such great power, even more so to be only barely matched in strength against Tapu Koko. Surely, for a mortal blessed in the ways of Aura and who had successfully dealt with the world's criminal scum and both their many crazy plots and conflicts between Legendaries to destabilize the balance of the realms, besting an opponent of Tapu Koko's caliber should have been relatively simple. Yet something was off.
As He probed deeper into the soul of the Chosen One, the sight of his soul being incomplete along with enough suppressors to limit the young man's potential to that of a mere child was rather concerning. The suppressors also seemed to limit his biological state to that of a ten-year old.
While the concept of time was rather limited for an immortal entity such as Himself, where a few decades passed as mere minutes to His perspective, He definitely knew that humans usually aged, and that Ash Ketchum should have definitely been at this point around 20-years old.
He recognized the energy signatures of the suppressors, that of some of His children, Dialga, Palkia and Ho-Oh.
Summoning the Masters of Space and Time along with the Guardian of the Skies, the latter who in surprise stated, "Hoopa stole Silver's crate of poffins, not me!".
"Umm…we shall come back to that matter later, but for now, hear me my children, for I have seen something concerning.
For some inexplicable reason, the Chosen One, Ash Ketchum, happens to be missing a part of his soul, along with being affected by mystical suppressors that have limited his cognitive and biological state to that of a ten-year old human, and it just so happens that these suppressors have your energy signatures upon them.
Care to explain?"
"It's your fault."
"No, it's yours."
"No, it's Ho-Oh's."
"No, it's not my fault."
"Yes, it is."
"Ok it might be my fault but it's for a perfectly good reason."
"Explain Ho-Oh."
"Yes Father" replied Ho-Oh. She then dove into her tale of how she heard an innocent wish, made by a ten-year old Ash Ketchum on the day his journey began, that being for his adventures to never end. How upon hearing such an innocent wish, she decided to grant it, and enlisted Dialga and Palkia to aid her in placing the suppressors to prevent him from growing up, which was the easiest way to achieve this.
"So in essence, because of a wish made by the exhausted and slightly delirious Chosen One on the first day of his journey, where he asked for his adventures to never end, you, Ho-oh, made a perfectly innocent and accidental wish come true by taking half of the Chosen One's soul and essence responsible for him ageing, maturing, and growing up, gave it to Palkia who in turn, put it in an alternate reality where that half goes by the name of Red, and then asked Dialga to suppress the Chosen One's ability to age and grow.
On top of that you placed a cognitive damper on everyone around the Chosen One, such that no one would ever realize that something was wrong with him. This in turn, is why the Chosen one has never won a League properly, had several near brushes with death and actual deaths, apparently forgets about most of his previous experiences and his older Pokémon, and is still an innocent virgin who has yet to register that at least six different females throughout the ten years of his journey are interested in MATING WITH HIM!", paused Arceus momentarily, who was starting to consider a glass of vodka with Lum berry essence.
"And on top of all that, do you know how many other Legendaries you three will piss off when they learn of this. The number of incomprehensibly stupid wagers on who will mate with the Chosen One has only gotten crazier over the years, ever since the sweet innocent Latias of Altomare kissed him. Heck, one of the more notable ones was Giratina's, where he bet that if Dawn Berlitz didn't become the mother of the Chosen One's children, he'd paint his scales neon pink and visit every major city in Kalos, flying around each city in broad daylight. IN NEON PINK!" And once again, the Creator of the Universe paused during his rant, knowing that he needed to cool down – this was a very serious matter and he needed to have a rational mind while dealing with it.
"Now please tell me there is a solution to this because at this rate, the next time there is a major catastrophe, the Chosen One might fail because HE's STUCK AS A FRIGGIN' TEN-YEAR-OLD!" swore the creator of the universe, unfortunately unable to keep calm due to the fact that His champion was still a preteen.
"And above all this, your actions have very well brought about chaos beyond your comprehension Ho-oh!"
"All we need to do is bring both versions of the Chosen One here, merge them and their timelines back together, and reset everything back to the day the wish was made" answered Palkia, who was visibly sweating buckets.
With a clap of thunder, two humans appeared in the Hall of Origin. One from the Alola region, and one from the peak of Mount Silver in a pocket dimension.
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
At Manalo Stadium in Alola, just a few minutes earlier…
Hovering before Professor Kukui stood Tapu Koko, presenting a mysterious Z-Crystal to the momentarily confused professor.
"Hold on. Is that a…" murmured the shocked professor, processing what was now in the palm of his hand.
"Is that a Tapunium-Z!" spoke the awestruck Kahuna refereeing the battle. Continuing, his voice filled with awe, the elderly Kahuna Hala spoke, "There is an ancient legend that spoke of a Z-Move that only island guardians can use…"
"Back when they saved Alola from danger, the island guardians and some heroic people used a legendary Z-Move" continued Kukui, noticing that Tapu Koko was looking at him dead in the eye.
…
"You want us to use it? Right here and now? That Z-Move!" cried out a shocked Kukui.
In response, Tapu Koko merely nodded back.
…
"This ought to be AMAZING! Hey Ash!"
"Huh?"
"Tapu Koko and I will be using a Z-Move. You should use a Z-Move too!"
"WHAT!"
"Will you two win this battle. Or will Tapu Koko and I come out on top? This will be a matchup of true power!" yelled out Kukui in excitement, his very heart thrumming with said emotion.
After a moment of silence, Ash responded – "So it will be all your power against…all ours". And with a smirk, Ash continued "I like it professor – what a great idea!"
"HELL's YEAH!" smirked Pikachu.
…
"Yes."
And with that, both trainers placed their respective Z-Crystals in their Z-Rings, or in Ash's case being a Z-Power Ring. And with that, the final clash began.
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
With his hands crossed, Kukui spoke, softly but with great emotion and power behind his words.
Palms together, he pointed them open forward, before raising his hands to the air, followed by a steadfast pose, his left arm ready to defend while his right pulled back, ready to strike forward, with the Guardian of Melemele Island following suit.
"Handed down from ancient oral tradition. The legendary Z-Move. People and Pokémon living together with nature, everyone existing in a time when all is shared – the ultimate Z-Power!"
As Tapu Koko was enveloped in Z-Power, the ground shook, before cracking wide open, jagged stone pillars rising haphazardly. As Kukui and Tapu Koko thrusted their left palm (or limb in Tapu Koko's place) forward, a massive golden hand, followed by another emerged from the earth. And in mere moment, a golden headless giant stood before everyone, nearly fifty feet of pure Z-Power in a humanoid form.
Pikachu's only response to the foe before him was "Holy fucking shit!"
Everyone watching, both from home and from the stands were left awestruck at the sight before them.
Amongst a group of school students in the stands, Kiawe stammered out the question everyone was silently asking – "What in the world is that?"
"It's so big…" spoke a worried Lillie.
"Too big" continued Lana.
"Now hold on. Is Ash really supposed to battle that giant?" asked Mallow.
"It's humongous!" stammered Sophocles.
And with that statement, the five got to their feet and cheered Ash on – "You can do it Ash!"
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
Meanwhile, Ash suddenly felt a surge of energy on his wrist, noticing that his Electrium-Z has transformed into its super-power form that he still didn't have a proper name for, besides the move itself being called ten-million-volt thunderbolt.
Noticing this, Pikachu took a deep breath and thought to himself 'pull yourself together – it's just another Legendary. Yes. We can do it.'
"Ash! Let's show them what we're made of!" smirked Pikachu to his oldest friend.
"Yeah! Well ok!" And with that statement, Ash placed his hat upon Pikachu's brow, which said Pokémon secured onto his head.
"Let's show them what our full power looks like! Yeah!"
"Hell yeah!"
Fist against fist, tail smacking his palm, the duo thrusted their right arms forward, feeling the Z-Power envelope them.
"Right!" spoke Kukui with an air of confidence.
Suddenly, Tapu Koko shot into the air, before sealing himself within his shell, landing upon the Z-Power giant, forming what was now it's head,
"Much bigger than a thunderbolt – Ten-Million-Volt Thunderbolt! Yeah, this is much, much bigger. At super full power!" spoke Ash,
"This is our Super Full Power! Together!" cried out Pikachu.
Clapping his palms together from the skies, Kukui cried out to the heavens "Tapu Koko! Use Guardian of ALOLA!"
"Face the Z-Power of Alola!" cried out Tapu Koko, the giant fist now approaching Pikachu to land a devastating strike.
Fist raised to the air; Ash cried out "Pikachu! Use Ten-Million-Volt THUNDERBOLT!"
"This is our Full Power! Ten-Million-Volt Thunderbolt!" cried out Pikachu, leaping into the air
Storm clouds formed in the sky, darkening the sunny afternoon. From the now darked skies, bolts of lightning enveloped the mouse Pokémon, from which seven bolts of pure electric Z-Power, the seven colors of the rainbow, uniting as one and striking the rapidly approaching fist, bringing both attacks to a momentarily stalemate of power.
"All right, here we go! At FULL POWER!"
"Our FULL POWER!"
And as trainer and Pokémon thrusted their arms forward, eerily reminiscent of the motions used for the signature move of the Aura Pokémon, the Tapunium Z-Move was pushed back, cracks now appearing in the giant fist, spreading quicky to the rest of the limb.
But suddenly, a sphere of energy appeared over the battlefield, time slowing down to a standstill with its appearance. From it appeared the Master of Time, Dialga, his power now freezing the flow of time throughout the universe, save for the Distortion realm and the Hall of Origin, the only realms beyond his control. Moments later, another sphere of energy appeared, revealing the Mistress of Space, Palkia.
Upon seeing the battle below, both commented on the display of power before them.
"I knew that the Chosen One was impressive, but dang, that Pikachu packs a hell of a punch."
"Indeed sister. Now hurry, bring him to the Hall of Origin – no need to freeze time any more than necessary."
"Very well then."
And with that parting statement, Ash Ketchum was enveloped in a sphere of Palkia's power and the two Legendary Pokémon alongside the Chosen One disappeared.

As Ash blinked his eyes, he was shocked at the sight before him. Instead of being on the battlefield of Manalo stadium alongside Pikachu, facing off against the Professor and Tapu Koko, he was now in what appeared to be a massive pearly white hall, covered in a thick fog. But before he could voice his confusion, the fog parted, revealing several Pokémon, all of them being eerily familiar, yet for the life of him he couldn't recognize any of them.
He also noticed another figure, a trainer that looked oddly familiar as well, who surprisingly looked a lot like him, except he was older, and his hair was a shade of light brown, along with a different facial structure. Heck, he could have passed for his cousin to the average eye.
But before he could ask what the heck was going on and where he was, the unknown trainer started yelling, clearly upset about something.
"Who the friggin hell kidnapped me from my meditation spot on Mt. Silver!"
Meditating on Mt. Silver? But before Ash could question as to why somebody would want to meditate on a snowy mountain filled with dangerous Pokémon, the stranger/kind of distant cousin of his chucked a Poké ball at the glowing white and silver Pokémon, the one with a golden ring-like structure around its midsection, who promptly crushed it.
The unknown trainer shouted "Hey! Fist you kidnap me and now you somehow stopped a Poké ball!".
He then proceeded to chuck Poké balls at the other Legendaries, who in turn bonked them right back in his face. Arceus, having enough of the byplay, knocked him out.
If Arceus could facepalm, He would. From what Ho-Oh had told Him, He knew it would be bad, but didn't expect it to be to this degree. He needed the advice and expertise of a master of the Psychic Arts that could look into their minds with a more…delicate hand and see how screwed up they were.
Sensing His need for him, the recently appointed Master of the Psychic Arts, Mewtwo appeared and asked "Lord Arceus…Ash, what brings you here?".
"Where the heck am I and who are you all?"
"Why doesn't Ash Ketchum recognize me?"
Arceus knew that this was going to take a while. Now where was his Lum berry Vodka…

One long explanation later…
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
Looking into their minds, Mewtwo made the startling observation that Ash struggled to remember events more than a year old, with that being the reason as to why he didn't recognize any of the Legendary Pokémon present. Meanwhile, the fragment of Ash known as Red lacked any purpose aside from being a trainer who spent his days meditating at the peak of Mt. Silver and kicking ten-year-olds who interrupted him off the mountain.
"May I proceed with the merging."
"You may"
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
The screams of Ash Ketchum having his mind forcefully repaired of all the damage done due to the suppressors along with the merging of the fragment's soul and psyche with his own was rather unpleasant in Mewtwo's opinion. The removal of the suppressors also unleashed Ash's innate capabilities with Aura, which fortunately did help speed up the healing process.
Within Ash's mind, all the emotions that had been suppressed for all these years, along with the cognitive growth that usually happened for most humans during their puberty years, hit him all at once, even if it would take quite some time for him to be able to truly understand and process all these new concepts. Alongside this, the memories wiped by Mewtwo were also restored.
As he processed all these new emotions, he almost went into shock, the human mind not meant to ever process so much information all at once. Fortunately for him, the strongest psychic type to ever live was more than capable of holding the mind of Ash Ketchum together.
And as the merging was nearing completion, Ash fainted, his last coherent thought being recognizing the Pokémon before him and the settling panic as to why he was in the presence of primordial beings in the form of the Creator of the Universe, alongside Dialga, Palkia, Ho-oh, and Mewtwo.
…
"Oh dear. Was that supposed to happen?" asked Ho-oh to Mewtwo, concern evident in her voice.
"Unfortunately, yes. The sad truth is that the human mind is not meant to process several years' worth of emotions and understanding of previous experiences all at once. Fortunately, Aura is a fundamental part of his life-force, and it has taken care of most of the necessary healing. Now all we can do is wait."
"Then we shall wait. Hmm…how about a round of a card game I recently discovered – it's called UNO – should be a good way to pass time."
"I do indeed enjoy card games – an excellent test of one's mental capabilities." commented Mewtwo.
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
Several hours later…
As Ash came to, he felt a rather strong throbbing in his head, as if he had been repeatedly struck by a skull bash attack. Blinking his weary eyes open, he was treated to the sight of five Legendary Pokémon…playing a card game?"
"Mewtwo!" cried out Ash, said Legendary being the first recognized by the now awake teen.
"Hello Ash."
"Hello, my Chosen One, it has been a long time since we last met."
"Arceus. Ho-Oh. Dialga. Palkia … what… what the bloody fucking hell is going on?"
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
Another long explanation later…
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
"You mentioned how I wasn't the only one affected by this whole wish screwup."
"Ah, in order to ensure nobody around you noticed that you were not growing up, Ho-Oh placed a rather questionable mnemonic dampener on everyone around you. This also messed up the ability of the people around you to connect with you on an emotionally deeper level, thus never allowing the relationships others had with you to progress beyond the point of a normal connection in the long term."
"What do you mean questionable? And what do you mean by 'an emotionally deeper level'?" asked Ash, who couldn't make sense of what Arceus was talking about when he meant 'emotionally deeper'.
"As for the second question…well none of us are exactly the right person to explain this to you – we shall arrange for someone else to fill you in on that" spoke Arceus, really not wanting to explain romance of all things to the Chosen One.
"Questionable in the sense that if Ho-Oh had made a mistake, no one would know you even existed" spoke Mewtwo, getting back to Ash's first question and fortunately distracting Ash away from Arceus's comment about the second question.
"And do not forget any possible side effects that may be a result of that – messing with one's mind seldomly ever brings positive results."
At this point, Ash really wanted to bang his head against the wall and cry, and coincidently forgot about Arceus's vague answer to his second question – the mental exhaustion was taking its toll on him.
Pulling himself together, he asked the big question, "Now what? You've kidnapped me from the battle of a lifetime, and everyone back there is going to freak out! So…are you gonna send me back?"
"Do not fret, for Dialga froze time before Palkia brought you here. And unfortunately, sending you back is far from an ideal option."
"What the hell!"
"I implore you to calm down. Now as I was saying, sending you back is not really an option, as in order to initially grant the wish, Dialga and Palkia severely messed with both reality and the timeline, making many changes spanning several millennia's worth of events that resulted in the timeline that you know of and have lived through. Your life, as the Chosen One, is a pivotal point in reality, and by messing with your life, reality was destabilized.
And while the timeline could continue to exist, the cracks in reality that have already formed since that fateful day have continued to worsen, and eventually, anywhere from a few weeks to within the next decade, the timeline would collapse, breaking reality and restarting the cycle of creation and destruction of the universe several billion years in advance. In order to avoid that, Dialga, Palkia, and I have used our collective power to rebuild the timeline as it was supposed to be, had Ho-Oh never granted that wish in a misguided attempt to be helpful."
"I'm really, really sorry Ash."
"And you will continue to be so for a very long time. Now back to you Ash – with the timeline restored, the best option moving forward would be to send you to the true timeline, back to the day this whole mess began, the day you left for your journey."
"It's not like I have a choice" sighed Ash.
"You do – the opportunity to live your life as you were meant to be. While I can send you back to where you were from and while I would be unhappy with the eventual end of this cycle of the universe much earlier than intended, I will do as you ask, seeing as I will be reborn to build the universe anew, as I have always done and always will. Think about that."
"Well…ok. I'll go to the true timeline. I'm not gonna let the universe die because of somebody's stupid mistake."
"How many times do I have to apologize?" sighed Ho-Oh.
Several voices stated variations of the word 'forever', leaving the Rainbow Pokémon depressed.
"Very well."
"Ok then. You guys can send me back."
"Though Ash, I hope you would be amenable to myself joining you – I could use some excitement in my life, and maybe help you along the way in some form – it might atone for all that I have done against you in the past – I never did apologize for what happened between us" replied Mewtwo.
"It's ok Mewtwo – there was nothing to apologize for in the first place. And sure, I have no problem with you joining me."
"Now let's not tarry any long and send both you and Mewtwo into the new timeline."
"So, we will essentially be on our own", sighed Ash, who was going to seriously miss the friendships he had made, both human and Pokémon.
"Do not fret, for we will not be alone" replied Mewtwo.
But before Ash could ask what he meant by that, the Hall of Origin disappeared in a flash of light, and he knew only darkness.
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
As the sun rose over Pallet town, a Mr. Mime could be seen sweeping the front porch of a quaint two-story home. In the second bedroom of said home, an alarm rang signaling it was 7:30 am in the morning.
Hearing the ringing of his alarm clock, Ash cracked his eyes open and saw yellow, blinking his eyes at the unusual sight. He got up and realized that the pale-yellow fur belonged to a Pichu, one sleeping next to his pillow. The Pichu reminded him of Pikachu, and as natural as breathing, he then gently stroked its fur, just the way Pikachu liked it every morning.
The Pichu then promptly woke up, blinking its eyes and looking straight at Ash. It was at this moment that several memories flooded Ash's consciousness.
A four-year-old Ash listening to a story about an egg his father had given his mother to keep for him until it hatched and remembering it hatching when he touched it on his fifth birthday, revealing a baby Pichu who quicky became his best friend.
A six-year-old Ash listening to a story about his mother raising a Mime Jr from an egg she found when she was a young trainer that would one day become the Mr. Mime that took care of their home.
A thirteen-year-old Ash receiving the Talk from his mother and being unable to look at any of the girls in Pallet town for a week without blushing.
A fifteen-year-old Ash Ketchum receiving his accelerated education diploma alongside Gary Oak, making them legal adults and official Pokémon trainers, granting them access to the legendary Pokédex made by Professor Samuel Oak and one of the three unique Kanto starter Pokémon - Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.
These were just some of the many memories that went through Ash's conscious at that moment.
"Uhh...my head. Ash...why the hell are we in your room back home and what the fuck happened to our battle between Kukui and Tapu Koko? And is it just me or is everything bigger than I remember it being?"
"Pikachu! You're well...a Pichu."
…
"Fuck! Let me guess, time travel?"
"Yep. Apparently the Legendaries screwed up with all of us due to a poorly worded and accidental wish granted by Ho-oh, and this is their way of rectifying it. It's why we've struggled to be competent battlers for so long and why I've been stuck both physically and mentally as a ten-year-old for the past ten years."
"Is that why we lost in Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos. And not worked with the older Pokémon that make up our wacky family. And why do I remember you dying because of Mewtwo. And why you hadn't noticed girls before. I know for a fact that when we separated from Brock and Misty after Johto, Misty really didn't want to stop travelling with you...and it wasn't because she would miss a close friend. And don't get me started on Serena."
"Maybe, but I'm not fully sure about that yet. And yes...it's why I haven't taken care of my older Pokémon, and what the heck do you mean by not noticing girls before?" Though in his head, he was questioning what he was supposed to feel regarding his female companions, though all he could tell was that it was a warm and fuzzy feeling, like when his mom hugged him, except it felt…different.
…
"That's alright. It's proof that you do care about us all because you feel horrible for forgetting and abandoning the rest of our crazy family, even if it was because of a Legendary being an idiot. And I'll worry about your girl-crisis later. But now we can make it right. For one, you're no longer ten – you're fifteen according to memories I didn't have before. And is that why I hatched and grew up here alongside you instead of in the wild?"
"Yes indeed. The timeline was initially broken when the wish was granted, but now it has been fully restored and from here on out, events should proceed as they were meant to be without the wish ever occurring in the first place" came a familiar voice from the doorway.
Before them stood a shiny Meowth, golden fur and all, but with unusual yet striking purple eyes instead of the normally seen narrow pupils. It also happened to be standing upright like Team Rocket's Meowth.
"Mewtwo?"
"Yes Ash. However, to protect my identity, it would be prudent to address me as Meowth."
"A part of me wants to obliterate you for what happened at New Island, but seeing as you're here and Ash hasn't punched the living daylights out of you or – Ash, can I zap him for New Island?"
"No buddy. Mewtwo's a friend now, so no zapping unless he wants to be zapped."
…
"Can I zap you? Pretty please?"
"No."
"Aww man!"
"And even if I did give you permission, I doubt even a Pidgey would feel it."
"Grr. Though I don't know about you, but being smaller than a Togepi just feels…wrong somehow?
"There, there buddy, calm down. You'll be a Pikachu in no time."
"And as interesting as Pikachu's irritation over being a Pichu is, I believe that you have less than thirty minutes to get ready and head over to the professor's lab" replied Mewtwo.
"Oh yeah, today's the day I start my journey. Well…wow, stuff is already so different!"
"Yes. You will have to remember that some things will be different from what you remember them to be."
"I understand. But since Pikachu...or Pichu is here, do I need to get a starter?"
"Let's get going and see – you still need to get your Pokédex. Now I'm gonna get breakfast from Mama Ketchum. You're coming Mewtwo?"
"I do not believe that I have ever had the opportunity to dine upon maple syrup pancakes in the previous timeline."
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
As Ash looked in the bathroom mirror, it finally hit him that he was no longer ten. The lean and well build 5'8" body, displaying a health four-pack and toned muscles with just a bit of baby fat to show and a smooth jaw line, all clearly illustrating that he was approaching adulthood, even more so as he was a fifteen-year-old that could almost pass for seventeen. His voice was also slightly deeper, more mature, and less like that of a whinny brat. He definitely liked looking like an adult.
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
As Mewtwo entered the kitchen, he heard Delia Ketchum call for him. According to this timeline, he was a wild Meowth who had hung around the Ketchum residence for the past seven years.
"Meowth dearie."
"Yes Mrs. Ketchum?"
"Has Ash woken up yet? Today is his big day."
"He should be down in a few minutes. I'll go check anyways." answered the psychic type.
But before Mewtwo could leave, Ash appeared, wearing an outfit identical to what he wore when they first met, a black undershirt and light blue jeans with a blue and white jacket with green accents. It was finished off with a pair of green fingerless gloves and his signature one-in-a-million Pokémon Expo hat, that for some inane reason Ash had forgotten about after Johto.
"How do I look?"
"Like a trainer running late to get his starter".
Realizing that it was nearly 8 a.m., Ash raced out of the house straight towards the professor's lab.
Behind him, he could hear his mother calling "I'll have breakfast ready for you!"
X - - - X - - - X - - - X - - - X
Meanwhile, across the globe, at the exact same time Ash Ketchum woke up in the new timeline, many Pokémon suddenly gained memories and experiences they didn't have before.
A shiny Hoothoot woke up from its nap and started flying westward, a destination already in its mind.
An injured Chimchar surrounded by a trio of violent Zangoose was suddenly enveloped in red hot flames, resulting in the Zangoose being roasted by a powerful flame wheel, leaving only a hole where the Chimchar just stood.
A Snivy in the lab of Professor Aurea Juniper appeared from her Poké ball and promptly activated the two Poké balls next to hers, releasing a Tepig and an Oshawott, who then promptly went to work, attempting to access the Pokémon Transport System.
A Froakie in a nursery in Kalos woke up late at night, promptly breaking out of the facility through a window and running deep into the surrounding forest, needing to fulfill but a single objective.
An egg in a Toucannon nest hatched, revealing a Rowlet that looked around…and promptly went back to sleep, though now wishing that he was ensconced within his most sacred backpack.
Like this, many more unique incidents occurred that day all over the world.
