Chapter Thirty-One
It has been a few days since Collector was freed, and he was enjoying it. Though they had to subdue a Titan Trapper a day later. Turns out the Titan Trapper, a large male witch named Tarak thought King was one of them. Eda had warned Tarak to stay away from her house and has been living nearby. As to not arouse suspicions, Eda had given Collector a concealment stone to keep Belos from figuring out who he was. Collector really didn't conceal much, changing his hair to a light lilac color, eyes to a violet color and fair skin with the three stars still staying where they were on his cheek.
Rummaging though various boxes in the basement and the tower, clothes were found for Collector. A white buttoned up shirt with a dark blue short sleeve shirt underneath, purple pants held up by suspenders with star clasps, brown boots, fingerless dark blue gloves and matching socks, and a dark blue plaid paperboy hat. The concealment stone was white and feather shaped, placed as a bracelet on his left wrist.
"What are you doing?" asked Collector, staring at Eda as she had an intense look on her face before screaming. "That last scream was funny."
"Ah, don't mind me. I'm just learning how to turn into Harpy Eda on command," replied Eda, looking at Collector while pointing at some VHSs on the coffee table. "According to these human workouts, you just gotta scream a lot until you force your inner beast out."
"Tengu," said Collector, correcting Eda.
"Actually, that's an anime," said Danielle, from the hallway. "Thought of a name yet, Collector?"
"Well, I don't want to use my actual name and I don't want to shorten Collector in case Belos figures it out by connecting the two together," replied Collector, looking at Danielle. "So, no, I haven't yet. You look a little pale there Danielle."
"I'm fine," said Danielle, about to head upstairs. "I think małe echo is close to giving me some information."
"Eda…" said Collector, looking at Eda. "Can we have pancakes tonight?"
"You had pancakes this morning," said Eda, looking at Collector. "Which was interesting that Danielle made it from cake mix."
"Yeah, they were good," said Collector, before hearing Danielle scream and flying up to her room alongside Eda. "Danielle, is everything…"
"Info… info," said Danielle, seeing małe echo project a segment of the diary. "Philly's entry."
"Philly?" said Collector and Eda, looking at each other.
"After five years, I have finally found it. A power source so potent it can pierce through realms. Titan's Blood. There are old tales of lakes reflecting green trees and blue skies. The Titan's vein runs through the land," said the Diary entry, the images displaying various points. "And many believe that these wild portals are created when a little of its blood leaks into the water. That is how I came here. So that is the first place I shall look. I will journey back to Eclipse Lake."
"Eclipse Lake…" said Danielle, as the projection stops before sprinting towards her door. "I have to go to Eclipse Lake."
"Whoa there," said Eda, catching Danielle mid waist. "You're not going alone."
"Okay, understandable," said Danielle, looking at Eda. "Where's Eclipse Lake anyway?"
"The Knee," replied Eda, looking at Danielle. "You know, Collector is right. You are looking a little pale. You okay there?"
"I have no time to get sick," replied Danielle, looking at Eda. "I'll get sick when I get back to my realm."
"How can you tell when a member of your race gets sick?" asked Eda, whispering to Collector as Danielle heads downstairs to grab her winter gear.
"Two ways," replied Collector, looking at Eda. "One: very much the same as you mortals, just really seeing it. And Two: we uh… kinda…"
"Yeah, you kinda what?" asked Eda, looking at Collector.
"Sneeze stardust," replied Collector, covering his face with his hat. "Not only is it to measure our health but young inexperienced members like myself will sneeze it since our magic is still growing and such… plus…"
"Plus?" said Eda, looking at Collector.
"There's also a chance of teleporting from place to place which is exhausting," said Collector, looking at Eda.
"What are you two talking about?" asked Danielle, as she came back upstairs with their winter garb. "Here, Eclipse Lake is a-waiting."
Having gotten into their winter grab, Eda has Danielle, Collector and King sit on her staff as they head towards the Knee. Every so often, Danielle had to fight back fatigue that was setting in. Landing not to far from a cave entrance, Coven Scouts are seen alongside Kikimora.
"This place is crawling with tools," said King, looking at the Coven Scouts. "What gives?"
"Titan blood is the most powerful source of magic on the Isles," replied Eda, looking at King. "I'm not surprised Belos wants it too."
"Well, yeah," said Collector, looking ahead. "It's one of the ingredients for the Portal Door."
"I can't afford to mess this up," thought Danielle, sniffly a little. "I can't get sick, I can't get sick."
"Oh, I know you," said Collector, as Hunter in disguise falls near them. "You're that…"
"I am but a humble scout, and I surrender," said Hunter, raising his hands.
"Hey Hunter," said Danielle, staring at Hunter.
"Can't believe you recognized his annoying voice that easily," said Eda, looking at Danielle.
"Why does everyone say that?" said Hunter, slightly hurt before attempting to escape.
"Don't let him get away!" shouted Eda, only for Collector to float Hunter back towards them. "That works."
"Golden Guard contained," said Danielle, walking forward. "Let's get going."
"Whoa, slowdown," said Eda, looking at Danielle. "The Titan's Blood isn't going anywhere."
"You need to slow down," said King, climbing onto Danielle's shoulder.
"Someone's impatient," said Hunter, looking at Danielle.
"Quite Hunty," said Danielle, still walking.
"Hunty," said Hunter, confused. "Wait, do you… I don't like you like that."
"Where'd you get that I like you?" asked Danielle, staring at Hunter as she walks backwards.
"You called me Hunty," replied Hunter, looking at Danielle.
"Forget I said that," said Danielle, slightly blushing before seeing some weird dust that had an unsteady glow as she sneezed slightly. "Great, this dust thing is starting up again, I thought I got over it years ago."
"Danielle…" thought Collector, before seeing the dust and seeing it settle in the snow. "Unsteady glow plus strong red… fever is increasing. She's got the cosmic cold."
"Ah, here's a good place," said Eda, coming across a wall of ice. "Hooooot!"
"Eh?" said Danielle, walking into the cave after Eda created a hole.
"That was funny," said Collector, slightly laughing.
"Did I do it?" asked Eda, as she landed in the cave. "Did I go into harpy mode?"
"Tengu," said Danielle and Collector, correcting Eda as they walked in with Hunter floating nearby.
"No," replied King, walking into the cave. "You just screamed "hoot" and ran headfirst into a wall of ice. Pretty funny actually."
"You can put me down," said Hunter, looking at Collector. "I won't run."
"You promise?" asked Collector, holding out his pinky finger.
"… … fine, I promise," said Hunter, linking his pinky with Collector's pinky.
"Alright," said Collector, letting Hunter plummet to the ground. "There you go."
"Gentle next time," said Hunter, looking at Collector as a tiny rope made of magic was tied around his waist. "Who are you anyway?"
"Who, me?" asked Collector, looking at Hunter. "I'm…"
"A member of my race," said Danielle, grabbing Collector in a baby hold while glaring at Hunter. "That's all you need to know right now."
"Testy much," said Hunter, following Danielle.
"Shut it," said Danielle, before walking after Eda and King.
"Huh, this stuff is old," said Eda, seeing old mining equipment.
"Ancient witches used to mine the veins for Titan blood…" said Hunter, only to be ignored by Eda and King.
"They're not listening," said Danielle, seeing King climb on top of one of the drills. "King, please get off the drill before you hurt yourself."
"Go on, fire it," said Eda, looking at King. "Maybe the adrenaline will kick in, and bam, Harpy Eda."
"Tengu," said Collector, looking at Eda.
"Don't," said Danielle, looking at Eda and King. "I'd rather not inform Kikimora and the scouts outside that we're here."
"Agreed," said Hunter, looking at Eda and King before King set off the drill.
"Got it," said Collector, as the beam disintegrated from his touch. "There we go."
"This isn't a normal cave!" said Hunter, staring at Eda and King. "These walls are made from the veins of the Titan. Any magic you shoot will bounce right back at you!"
"Aw, Kingy's fur went all foofy," said Danielle, staring at King.
"We need to get Danielle home quick after we find the Titan's Blood," thought Collector, looking at Danielle. "She's getting cutesy and weird."
"Huh, you must be fun at parties," said Eda, before looking at King. "Hey, King, how about you use your new powers to echolocate the lake?"
"Haha, okay! Weh!" said King, sending his new voice power down the cave and hearing nothing. "Eh-eh."
"Those two are definitely gonna get us caught," said Hunter, with a deadpan expression.
"Just keep walking," said Danielle, lightly shoving Hunter forward.
Continuing walking further into the cave in silence, the red cardinal palisman flies throughout the cave, staying close by in case for Hunter. Danielle, on the other hand, was tired and exhausted, wanting to curl up in her bed back at the Owl House but knew she couldn't till she got a hold of some Titan's Blood. A little further in, everyone spots Kikimora and some Coven Scouts.
"Oh, that poor girl is going through something," said Eda, watching the scene in pity.
"They're blocking the path," said Danielle, glaring at Kikimora and the Coven Scouts.
"We should create a distraction," said Hunter, quietly.
"We should create a distraction!" said Eda, loudly while running off with King. "You kids wait for my signal."
"Eda, wait," said Danielle, going after Eda.
"Huh, that was easy!" said Hunter, leaning against the wall in a relaxed position. "When they're caught, you and me can take the Titan blood for ourselves."
"Danielle is the one that needs it," said Collector, looking at Hunter. "Not me."
"You're human like that Half Breed somewhat," said Hunter, looking at Collector. "So, you obviously want to go home. The Owl Lady and her pet have nothing at stake, unlike us."
"Stop calling her that," said Collector, glaring at Hunter. "Or I'll…"
"We have a lot in common, kid. We're both trying to show what we can bring to the table," said Hunter, looking at Collector. "And we can't fail, 'cause there's nothing worse than disappointing someone who thinks you're special."
"Huh…" thought Collector, thinking about what was said. "Am I special to Danielle?"
"Seriously you two," said Danielle, pulling Eda and King back onto the path. "We can't dilly-dally here."
"Come on," said Collector, running over to Eda, Danielle, and King. "The path is open."
"What…" said Eda, seeing Kikimora and the Coven Scouts gone. "What'd you do?"
"I sent a stream of magic down another path," replied Collector, grabbing Danielle's hand and running down the path. "Let's find the Titan's Blood for Danielle."
Walking down the path, everyone sees dark blue blobs about. Every so often the red cardinal palisman would try and sit on Hunter's shoulder.
"Hey," said Hunter, shrugging the red cardinal palisman off his shoulder. "Find a different perch, bird."
"Here, little red, you can perch on me," said Danielle, letting the red cardinal palisman perch on her shoulder before glaring at Hunter. "Would it kill you to be nice? Little red obviously likes you."
"Is this Titan's Blood?" asked Eda, looking at the dark blue blobs.
"Odd, we haven't even reached Eclipse Lake," said Danielle, looking at the map.
"Who cares?" said King, about to touch the dark blue blobs. "We did it!"
"That's actually Fool's Blood," said Collector, looking at Eda. "We're in a decayed vein which means there is probably very little Titan's Blood left."
"Pretty knowledgeable about our realm, kid," said Hunter, looking at Hunter. "How?"
"What you say?" asked King, as he kicked the dark blue vein.
"Not good," said Danielle, as the ground cracked open as she, Eda and King fell. "Aaah!"
"Danielle! Eda! King!" shouted Collector, about to fly down.
"Wait. Take me with you!" said Hunter, looking at Collector. "Also how are you doing that?"
"Yoo-hoo! Golden Guard!" said Kikimora, down the tunnel.
"At least untie me so I can escape," said Hunter, looking at Collector. "Please. I don't want to be replaced."
"Fine," said Collector, undoing the magic rope and looking at Hunter. "Better?"
"Yes," replied Hunter, before pushing Collector down.
"Hey!" said Collector, glaring at Hunter. "You meanie!"
"Now I get to Eclipse Lake before anyone," said Hunter, jumping into a minecart as the red cardinal palisman follows him. "Byeeeeeeeee!"
"Meanie," said Collector, before floating down towards Eda, Danielle and King. "Hi there, need help?"
"Go after him," replied Eda, looking at Collector. "If he gets the Titan's Blood, Danielle will never get home."
"Don't worry," said King, looking at Collector. "Eda or Danielle will get us out of this."
"Okay, if you're not back up by the time I get back, I'll float you guys out" said Collector, floating back up and going after Hunter.
"Enya, Enya!" said Danielle, giggling as she nuzzled Eda's cheek.
"Yeah, we're so not getting help from Danielle," said Eda, as Danielle purred into her chest.
After a lot of back and forth talking to the Owl Beast, Eda finally agreed to a certain condition. Turning into her Harpy form, Eda was able to get everyone out of the hole and flying down the path. Turns out Kikimora and the Coven Scouts ended up in a minecart crash.
"There it is," said Danielle, giggling as she sees the sign to Eclipse Lake. "Enya."
"I don't know who you freaks are, but that blood belongs to Kikimora!" shouted a Coven Captain, as the Abomaton stopped Eda from flying further.
"Get to the lake, I'll take care of…" said Eda, only to be slammed into the wall.
"Eda!" shouted King, only for Danielle to run past him and grab Kikimora by the back of her collar. "What the?"
"Nyaa," said Danielle, as a set of dark blue sparkly cat ears appeared on her head with the insides being a milky white and a fluffy dark blue sparkly cat tail.
"Let me go!" shouted Kikimora, glaring at Danielle.
"King, go!" shouted Eda, looking at King. "I'll handle whatever this is."
"Okay," said King, running down the tunnel.
"Alright, come here kitty," said Eda, only for Danielle to run away from her. "Wait, no, bad kitty. Kikimora is not your kitten. Do it to King later."
"What is wrong with the human?" asked Kikimora, before looking at Danielle. "Wait, does she have the common mold? Is this what happens when humans catch it?"
"I think it's more of a Danielle thing," replied Eda, placing her staff between Danielle and Kikimora. "All right now, grab your superior and pull. I don't know how much strength Danielle has like this."
"Alright," said the Coven Captain, grabbing hold of Kikimora and trying to pull her out of Danielle's grip.
As that was going on and King running down the tunnel, Collector had come upon a cavern. Turns out Hunter was digging in the center where Eclipse Lake would have been.
"What are doing?" asked Collector, looking at Hunter.
"Don't worry. I won't pick a fight. There's no Titan Blood," replied Hunter, resigning himself.
"Then why are you still digging?" asked Collector, walking over to Hunter.
"Oh, it's simple really," replied Hunter, slightly unhinged. "Belos needs Titan blood to make a new portal key. Can't get to the Human Realm without it! Since I failed my last mission, I thought, "Hey, a chance to make up for it!" But I can't go back empty-handed! Not again. Long story short, this is my grave. Want me to…"
"Well of course a portal key needs Titan's Blood. See," said Collector, showing the Portal Key he had on hand. "Both the Portal Door and key needs it to travel from here and… wait, why are you looking at me like that?"
"Give me that key!" shouted Hunter, lunging for the key.
"No way, Danielle needs this," said Collector, gripping the key as he dodges Hunter's advances before shooting his magic about. "Go away Grimwalker. I don't want to play with you anymore."
"Grimwalker? I'm not a Grimwalker!" shouted Hunter, glaring at Collector. "Now, give me that key!"
"No way," said Collector, sending a star at Hunter and puppetify his limbs. "And you are a Grimwalker. I remember seeing you being made and fixed countless times."
"What? What the…?" shouted Hunter, staring at his limbs and scared for his life. "Who are you? What are you?"
"I'm Danielle's friend and Eda's friend and King's friend and Hooty's friend," replied Collector, his eyes glowing through the concealment. "You're being a big bully."
"Listen, you're strong, and I'm tired," said Hunter, still scared. "If this continues, you'll probably escape, but here's the thing: We know where to find you… and your human."
"Leave Danielle alone!" shouted Collector, holding a big star above his head.
"Fine," said Hunter, trying to scoot away. "Just hand over the key."
"No," said Collector, gripping the key tightly.
"Glad that's over," said Eda, coming into the cavern with King on her shoulder and Danielle clinging to her. "I heard fighting. I'm ready to go. What happened?"
"Man, I can't wait till I get taller," said King, looking at his legs. "I barely got halfway down that tunnel before you flew on down."
"He wanted the key," replied Collector, looking at Eda.
"Kid, you turned his legs and arms into wood," said Eda, looking at Collector. "That is bound to get to Belos now."
"Well, we'll bring him back with us," said Collector, looking at Eda. "Can't tell if he doesn't go back."
"Point taken," said Eda, looking at Collector.
"What? No," said Hunter, looking at everyone. "Belos will…"
"I know," said Eda, conjuring a spell circle and pulling Hunter's hand through. "You will not tell Belos what transpired here in any way, shape or form. Or I'll have you turned fully into a puppet, got it."
"Got it," said Hunter, agreeing as the Everlasting Oath was bound and Collector turning his limbs back to normal.
"Good, now go," said Eda, pointing down the tunnel as Hunter left.
"Why is Danielle a kitty?" asked Collector, before Danielle sneezed stardust on him. "Yeah, it's time to get her back."
"Enya," said Danielle, before biting Eda's ear.
"Ow!" said Eda, wincing as Collector got Danielle to stop biting.
Calling it a day, Eda had King, Collector and Danielle on staff before leaving Eclipse Lake. Though not without Danielle nibbling on Eda's ear and purring on occasions on the flight back. Landing within the living room as Hooty had opened the front door, Eda tries to place Danielle on the couch.
"Come on, let go," said Eda, only to have to have Collector and King help get Danielle off her.
"Nya," said Danielle, grabbing Collector and slumping on the couch, kneading his chest.
"We may have a slight problem," said Hooty, looking at Eda.
"I know," said Eda, looking at Hooty. "We just have to wait for Danielle to recover from whatever cold she got."
"That's not it," said Hooty, as Tarak came out into the living room with a pot of soup in his hands and a frilly pink apron saying world's best cook in red sparkles and no Titan skull on.
"What are you doing in my house?" asked Eda, glaring at Tarak.
"I saw the young miss not looking so good when you left," replied Tarak, looking at Eda. "So, I made a traditional soup from my homeland to help."
"There's not Titan meat in there, is there?" asked King, staring at the soup nervously alongside Collector.
"Titan meat is inedible from what I heard growing up," replied Tarak, stirring the soup. "Instant death."
"What a relief," said King, sitting on the floor.
"She is not eating that," said Collector, disgusted by the looks of the soup.
"Nya," said Danielle, before Tarak shoved a spoon of soup in her mouth, her cat ears flattening before running into the kitchen and throwing up in the sink. "Blech!"
"What?" said Tarak, seeing everyone glare at him.
"Achoo," sneezed Collector, as a little bit of stardust was hovering in the air. "Oh no."
Note: Enya is just a play on Eda and the Japanese animal onomatopoeia of a cat meow hence E(da)nya
Owl Pellet #21
(Set a night later)
"I hate this," said Collector, blowing his nose into a tissue.
"Well, until you get better," said Eda, looking at Collector. "It's plenty of rest for both you and Danielle."
"At least Collector didn't go kitty," said King, standing outside the bedroom door.
"Yeah, I don't really know what happened there with Danielle," said Collector, blowing his nose again.
"I got plenty of soup left," shouted Tarak, from downstairs.
"I am not eating that," said Collector, sniffly.
"Nya," said Danielle, purring in her sleep.
"I'm going to watch some Bluey before I fall asleep," said Collector, grabbing Danielle's cellphone and turning it on. "Fancy restaurant was up next."
Owl Pellet #22
(set not long after Owl Pellet #21)
"You got the camera?" asked King, in a low voice looking at Eda.
"Yes, now move to the side," replied Eda, entering Danielle's room silently and sneaking up with camera in hand. "Sorry Danielle but I can't pass this up."
Silently getting in place, Eda takes a picture of Danielle and Collector, still sick, cuddled into each other. King silently laughs as Danielle kneads Collector's chest as her cat ear flicks every so often.
Owl Pellet #23
(Set the next morning)
"No, shoo," shouted Tarak, being chased by a hissing Danielle throughout the house before running out the front door. "This is why I'm a dog person."
"Ah, good girl," said Eda, seeing Danielle pacing the front door meowing angrily and hissing. "Now stay out."
"You can't keep me from taking the Grand Huntsman and King back to my isle," shouted Tarak, shaking his fist around. "We'll war with you."
"Shouldn't have taken the concealment stone off kid," said Eda, staring at Collector sitting on the couch with Danielle's comforter around him and holding her cellphone. "But then I wouldn't have been able to see how bad your condition is."
"I will not rest till the Grand Huntsman and King…" shouted Tarak, only for Collector to open the front door and glare at him. "Grand Huntsman, I…"
"Go away, you're ruining Bluey time," said Collector, before slamming the door and cuddling back into the comforter on the couch to watch more Bluey. "Hehe, they're playing library."
"What's Bluey time?" said Tarak, wondering what Collector was talking about.
Owl Pellet #24
(Set the night of Ch 25)
"Hey Collector, I found some snacks among the pile of human garbage Eda had stashed away," said King, holding a bunch of tasty snacks in his arms.
"Oh, cake," said Collector, grabbing the cake slice only for Danielle to snatch it away before he ate it. "Hey."
"These aren't really snacks, they're soap," said Danielle, holding the snack shaped soap. "Here, smell."
"Smells sweet…" said Collector, smelling the snack shaped soap. "And soapy… you're right."
"Yup, my realm has come up with amazing things over the years," said Danielle, holding out another soap. "Look at this one, this one when cut you can see the design on the inside. Pretty neat, huh."
"So cool," said Collector, sparkly eyed.
"Why make soap like this?" asked King, sniffing the soap.
"Because it's fun to see what you can do with soap," replied Danielle, looking at King and Collector. "I have quite a few of these back home. They can even be sculpted into things, I have one sculpted like a unicorn bust that I have yet to use."
Meanwhile back in the Human Realm
"Achoo," said the Snake-like Being, showering while holding said soap.
