The final fight for the Tenka'ichi Budokai was certainly an exciting one. A new uprising martial artist in Ayote vs a seeming master fighter in Jackie Chun. An exciting match in the original timeline already with Goku in place of Ayote, but with a secret twist that only they knew. This wasn't just some average teacher-student fight; this was also familial, with the disguised Roshi facing his own adopted granddaughter in an unexpected, but welcome test to see how far she had truly come.
Goku sat in the stands with Bulma and their friends as they got ready to watch the last fight. Goku had been given a pair of sunglasses to cover his eyes from the full moon, or else risk a rampaging giant ape to stomp in the tournament grounds. But he was a bit bummed by how anti-climatic the last fight ended, which Bulma noted.
Bulma: "Well… That was sort of your fault."
Goku: "My fault? What did I do?"
Bulma: "I… I spoke to Ayote after she stormed off. She seemed really upset that you pulled her tail like that. And that you tried to end the fight in such a cheap way."
Goku: "But I was only having fun. It's not like I wanted to upset her…"
Bulma: "Well… You did. You took a really incredible experience for her away by pulling that stunt. And once Master Roshi here's about this, I doubt he'll be any more pleased that one of his students tried to win like that."
Goku pouted a bit, now having to stew in the idea that Roshi may ridicule him later. But part of him did feel bad about what he did. The idea of winning clouded his judgment too much. Maybe he should apologize after the fight was over. But as he thought about this, the duo of Ayote and Jackie were called out, the former wearing the goggles her previous outfit had. Ayote was calm once again, which was good to Goku; maybe he really could speak with Ayote and apologize now that the steam had effectively blown over. She eyed him when he cheered for her… but he got the cold shoulder in response, clearly still frustrated with him right now. Ayote turned to Jackie and the two bowed respectfully to each other.
Jackie: "You've come quite far, young one. Whoever trained you must be one tough and handsome cookie."
Ayote: "Tough? Sure. Handsome? Ehh… Maybe in his prime. But I wouldn't replace him for the world."
Jackie certainly felt content with that… But he was also now fired up to win after that jab about his age… the little upstart. Once the gong sounded, the two went at it right away. Ayote lunged at Jackie, going on the offensive, much like Krillin. However, she was quite fast, causing Jackie to block each strike instead of dodging with quick open palms. He then catches both of Ayote's fists before the two glared at each other. Then the Saiyan reeled back her head before headbutting Jackie, causing him to loosen up his grip before she kicks off him to gain some distance.
Jackie: "Ah…! That really hurt… But… that's one way to use your head."
Ayote: "I ain't done yet, Chun."
Jackie smirks as he and Ayote get back into a fighting stance, watching and waiting to see who would make the first move. The old man decides to do so himself, going in for an offensive flurry of punches, which Ayote blocks then counter attacks after each block. That is until her arms are caught, much to her shock as Jackie held them firmly to her sides.
Jackie: "Like I said before, I do aim to win."
Ayote: "Okay. You got my arms… But my tail's still free."
Ayote smirks before swinging her tail to slap Jackie's face with enough force to be like being punched by a third arm. Her actual arms get free, allowing her to reel them back then slam her open palms forward, causing the old man to keel back in pain as he skids back quite a distance. Bulma, Goku, and Yamcha - the latter two especially - are in awe at this back and forth. But it was clear both had some kind of advantage over the other.
Yamcha: "Oh man. This is intense… Jackie's got experience and wisdom but Ayote's got youth and strength. Honestly, it feels like this match could go either way."
Goku: "Come on, Ayote! You got this!"
Krillin: "Yeah, do it for the Turtle School! And for Nam!"
Ayote looks to her friends and smiles, changing up her stance as to incorporate her tail. Jackie watches this stance change, actually making him sweat. He had to play defensively for now. The Saiyan lunges at Jackie as he starts to concentrate; this level of concentration on the fight allows him to dodge Ayote's faster three way strikes, even predict a low tail sweep as he jumps over it and block an incoming punch from the girl. As Ayote launches another punch, Jackie uses an afterimage to dodge the attack before then landing a hard knee to her stomach, causing her to cough out from the intensity of the strike. Jackie then followed up with another kick to her face, sending her flying across the arena as Jackie prepares his next attack.
Jackie: "You put up a mighty display, Ayote. You've earned a lot of respect from your peers. But sadly, you're not going to escape this. Thunder Shock Surprise!"
The old man extends both hands as he shoots out electricity, zapping and trapping Ayote as she gets stuck in an electric field. Her friends in the crowd could only watch on in horror as she struggled with this attack.
Ayote's Thoughts: "C-Crap! This sucks! If I don't get out of here, this electric stuff's gonna drain my stamina dry… I hope… this doesn't hurt anyone…"
Ayote began to gather her ki as she starts charging up, Jackie looking up with curiosity at what she was planning. But then he sensed a large gathering of ki, changing his expression to shock.
Jackie: "No way… She doesn't intend to explode her ki, does she?"
As Jackie continued to keep up his attack - in fact, increasing the intensity - Ayote got ready to unleash her attack as veins started to appear on various places of her body. It was obvious that whatever she was planning, it was going to strain her greatly. She then lets out a yell as she lets loose a ki explosion, shattering the Thunder Shock Surprise while sending a strong gust of wind across the tournament grounds, surprising everyone in the crowd at the sheer intensity of this attack. Jackie, being the closest to the ki explosion, had to brace himself and endure the wave coming off of the attack, barely keeping himself from being blown off the arena. Once the energy dissipates, everyone looked back down at the battlefield to see Ayote looking quite tired as her gi was in tatters, her upper wear looking the most torn. Thankfully, the bandages covering her chest remained intact.
Jackie's Thoughts: "Remarkable… Despite releasing so much ki to just escape my trap, Ayote is still standing… This kid's tougher than I thought…"
Ayote: "...Huff… Huff… Hey… Old timer!... I didn't… hear no bell…"
Jackie was about to simply tell Ayote to just give up… but then he saw the fire in the girl's eyes. He then realized that no amount of talking will convince her to just quit. So with a smile, he gets back into a fighting stance as Ayote does the same. The crowd was silent - partly from the intensity of the fight reaching its apex, and partly from fear of such a display of power. Ayote lunges at Jackie, aiming a roundhouse kick to his face; however, she strikes another afterimage. As Jackie retaliates, he finds himself falling for the same trick, much to his shock. He quickly turns and blocks an elbow coming from behind, the impact cracking the arena's floor. Ayote follows up with another roundhouse, but Jackie backflips away before firing another Thunder Shock Surprise; of course, the same trick wouldn't work with Ayote as she fires off a ki blast from her palm to block it, then side step it as she closes the distance. Jackie is hit in the gut by a strong fist, causing him to reel back. An exchange of intense attacks follows as Ayote is struck in the face by a punch from Jackie; a kick to the face from the Saiyan; a backflip kick to the chin from the old timer. Each hit caused the grounds to shake from each impact. It finally got to a point until both combatants' attacks sent them skidding back a distance. Their exhaustion was clear based on the injuries they had sustained; but despite their pain, it was clear to everyone that they were in true bliss as warriors. Sweat poured on their faces, their breathing heavy as it became clear the next attack could be the finishing blow.
Ayote: "Hey… Grandpa… Thanks… for an awesome fight… Of course you'd be the one… to let me go all out…"
Jackie wanted to say something. But he simply smiled; this had been an incredible fight with not just his own student… but a granddaughter he raised ever since he found her space pod. Perhaps he could finally consider retirement after all. The two got ready for the final strike as they lunged at each other. Instead of trading kicks like Goku in another timeline, the two traded punches, their strikes landing square on their faces with such force that they were both sent flying off of the arena at the exact same time. Everyone, including the announcer, was stunned silent until said announcer spoke up.
Announcer: "Wh-What an emotional and amazing battle! Between such titans of power, there can only be one clear winner! Whoever is able to climb back onto the arena and shout "I am the champion" wins!"
At first, no movement; it seemed like both combatants were well and truly out for the count. That is until Jackie stood up first, followed by Ayote. Both stumbled forward, each step feeling like they were walking with heavy weights on their person. But as Jackie got ready to climb the arena… he falls to the side, exhaustion getting the better of him. Ayote is left to climb up, struggling with the side as she rolls onto the arena. As the full moon sets to a point where the effects would no longer take place, she takes off her broken goggles as she stands to her feet, holding them up in victory.
Ayote: "I… I am the champion!"
The crowd erupts into cheers as Ayote is officially declared the winner of the 21st Tenka'ichi Budokai. Ayote then collapses as the energy from her had been well and thoroughly drained. Jackie could only smile with pride, believing that she won't let this victory get to her head.
Once was Ayote was given enough water and food to restore her energy enough to stand and walk, she is soon greeted by her friends as they come to check up on her.
Bulma: "Ayote! That was incredible! Truly incredible!"
Krillin: "Yeah, that Jackie Chun guy looked pretty powerful, but you were able to match him blow for blow!"
Ayote: "Ah well… It was nothing that amazing…"
Ayote bashfully laughed before seeing Goku. She stood up and walked up to him before kneeling to match his height.
Ayote: "Hey."
Goku: "Hey… Um… Bulma told me why you got angry… And after seeing that fight, I get it now… You and I are Saiyans and we enjoy the thrill of a fight, right?"
Ayote: "Mmhm."
Goku: "Then… From now on, I aim to grow strong and win based on my own merits. And next time we fight, I'll win through fair means."
Ayote looks at Goku before smiling, extending a fist.
Ayote: "I look forward to it."
The younger Saiyan smiles back before fist bumping Ayote. As they settle that, the group turn to see a… bandaged up Master Roshi, which made everyone but Ayote question what happened to him.
Roshi: "Whoof, the crowd sure was rowdy. Poor ol' me got stampeded after the fight ended."
He laughs off the pain before his back reminds him to take it easy.
Roshi: "Ahem… But Goku. I am most disappointed in you. Jackie Chun told me about your performance against Ayote and how selfish such a tactic was. That isn't the Turtle School way; win or lose, a fight meant to be an honorable exchange. If you cannot win a fight fairly, then just try your best. Learn by the final fight's example and grow to nurture your skills."
Goku: "Yes, Master Roshi."
Goku bows apologetically to Roshi, which the old master accepts. He then turns to Ayote.
Roshi: "So did you get your prize money?"
Ayote: "Yeah, but I told the staff giving it to me to give it to Nam instead so he can water for his village."
Nam's Voice: "And I appreciate it greatly."
The group turn to see Nam approach, bowing to Ayote with a genuine smile on his face.
Nam: "You kept your promise. And with this money, my village will survive now. Thank you so much, Ayote."
Ayote: "No problem. It may not be a bad idea to look into why there's a drought in your village in the first place. Could be foul play; you never know."
Nam: "I will see if such a thing is the case. I hope we meet again, my friends."
Nam leaves as Ayote waves to him, happy to see him leave with a happy ending. Roshi though looks to Ayote with some sweat.
Roshi: "While I do think that was a sweet gesture, Ayote. Did you at least save any money for yourself?"
Ayote: "Hm? No. Why would I?"
Roshi: "Wouldn't you like to celebrate your victory over a nice meal?"
Ayote pauses as the color drains right from her as she only now realizes her mistake. The loud stomach growls only taunt her. She did a good thing… only for her to go home starving. That's when Bulma chimes in.
Bulma: "Alright. Just this once, I'll pay for the feast. But only this time since I'm not made of money."
Goku: "Wow! No foolin'!?"
Yamcha: "You're awesome!"
Bulma: "Just don't bleed me dry, you two. I'm very aware of how your appetites are."
Ayote: "I'll… try to pay you back for this, Bulma…"
Ayote says with a blush, looking away as Bulma simply ruffles her hair with a smile. Thus the Turtle School march off to enjoy a feast after such an incredible tournament. But what new exciting adventures await our heroes?
