Uhura didn't hate Commander Spock exactly: she just didn't want him grading her comprehensive end-of-term training mission. Having the strict Vulcan looking over her shoulder seemed like the worst thing that could happen, until they crash-landed on an uncharted planetoid. A Spock/Uhura backstory trope.
