What he doesn't know is how much this promise is going to weigh on him in the future. Dammit, Jim. Kinda-fluffy, rated T for major Bones potty mouth and Jim injuries, and a Spock cameo. Oneshot.

James T. kirk is happy. He's got friends, a career and a ship. Only now he realizes no one can outrun their past. He's got a broken bond, a council that needs his say, questions he can't answer and past enemies are always on the horizon. Jim's counting down to the explosion. Because if one thing is true, when he's happy, something falls apart. Last in series, sequel to The Academy.
