Hello everyone. I promise you all I haven't forgotten about this story. It was just easier to write the other stories because of all the work I've been doing this term. And I was a facing a bit of a writer's block for it. Nevertheless here is the next chapter as I promised. Enjoy the chapter.
Spy Mission:
Benja had chosen five of his greatest warriors aside from his daughter to accompany the couple, Tong, Sisu and Toothless for the spy mission. His nephews were amongst them. Raya and Hiccup entered the room, armoured up and ready. "We are ready to move ba," the princess announced.
"Take care," the chief bid, giving her a warm hug. "Hiccup…we won't blame you if you change your mind,"
"I'm not changing my mind," Hiccup declared. "I've spent so much of my life trying to run away from my problems instead of facing them. I will not stand by and watch you all risk your lives for me after everything you all have done. I would gladly be by your daughter's side at all times,"
Benja patted his shoulders. "You have the fine makings of a future chief," he embraced him too and Hiccup for a moment felt like he was in the arms of a Viking whom he hadn't forgotten for years. His eyes balled up in tears. Only his little dragons seemed to notice.
"Take care Sisu," Amba implored.
"I'll be fine," she said. "Besides teamwork makes the dreamwork am I right?"
"You sure are," Toothless, in his human form like her, high-fived her.
"We really wish we could help you," Boun said, coming over to them with Noi and the Ongis.
"It would much safer if you guys stayed here and out of trouble," Raya said. "What you can all do is spread the message to everyone,". Noi and the Ongis saluted them.
"Take care," Jagan bid. "And whatever you all do, be careful. We don't know what kind of enemies they are,"
"I do slightly," Hiccup said. "And I can tell they are not like any ordinary enemies my dragons and I have encountered,". Smokey and Sharpshot bobbed their heads in acknowledgment. "Dragons…" she addressed the siblings. "There is something I would like to ask,"
"Speak," Pranee said softly.
Gobber was cleaning up some weapons one afternoon when he heard loud crying. He walked to the back of the blacksmith shop. An auburn-haired child was slouched on a bench, head in hands. "Hiccup….
Hiccup jumped. "Oh Gobber," he wiped his face. "I was just ah…"
"Are you okay?" his uncle-like mentor sat beside him.
"I'm fine,"
"Come on. Let's have a look," Gobber gently cupped his chin and turned him to meet his eyes. He winced seeing a black eye. "Snotlout again?". The poor tearful boy nodded. "Come on," he carried the poorly treated boy to his bedroom inside and got a bucket of water to douse the wound with. He sighed. "When are you gonna stop getting into these fights?"
"He punched me," Hiccup sobbed as his punch mark tingled. "I didn't do anything but he and the twins cornered me and they beat up saying horrible things about me. And none of the other kids did anything to stop it,"
"You mustn't let what they say get to you,"
"But it's true. They say I'm weak and useless and look at me!" he shouted, startling Gobber. He turned away and hunched his knees again. The blacksmith sat beside him trying to make eye contact.
"You will grow stronger with time. You just have to be patient. Why don't we go talk to your father?"
"He won't listen. He doesn't love me,'
Gobber shook his head. "That's not true,"
"It is. He never has time for me anymore. And every time I try to tell him about those bullies, he says I have to toughen because I'm his son. While I don't look like the son he wants. I'm just a 'fishbone',"
"Your father loves you," Gobber's efforts were once again useless. "You have to understand that…when he lost your mother…he sort of lost himself too. He's just never been the same,"
"I wish it were mama who was alive," young Hiccup said with bitter hatred.
"You don't mean that," the blacksmith tried to say.
"Yes. I do. At least she would have time for me and she wouldn't let those bullies torment me. I never asked to be born early. I never asked to be weak. I just want to have friends. I just want to be loved. Everyone here hates me,"
"I don't hate you," Gobber patted his back. The boy felt loved. He turned around. "You're become like a son to me over the years. I know I don't really say it but it's true. I'll always have your back. I'll teach you everything I know and I promise that one day everyone will wish they are just like you,"
Hiccup lowered his legs down. "You think?"
"I know," Gobber's words earned him a hug which he affectionately returned. As Hiccup's wet face of joy was buried in his chest, he held up a sad face. If only Valka was alive and Stoick hadn't become such a bad parent.
Gobber was sitting in his cabin quarters, staring down at a picture of fifteen-year-old Hiccup. How he had missed him for years. And now he had become a target in the Vikings' goal to dominate this sacred land of dragons and dragon lovers. It seemed like only yesterday Hiccup was an unwanted Viking but now he was fully grown man, engaged to a princess of dragon kingdom ready to fight his foes. But he couldn't be one of them? Could he?
Hiccup, Raya, and their team were waling south through the forest at last light. It was too risky to fly at the moment. The young man was in deep thought. "Hey, you okay?" his fiancé asked.
"Mmm. Oh yes I'm fine,"
Raya glanced worriedly at Tong. "I know how difficult it is what we're dealing with…"
"That's not it," Hiccup gently interrupted. "I was thinking about Gobber. Be embraced my your father love, it felt like I was in his arms again," She rubbed his hand. "He was the only one who cared for me. He taught me everything from crafting a sword to crafting a saddle. He was the father…I wish Stoick was. I hated lying to him when I met Toothless. I just couldn't bear to bring him into any trouble or risk him hating me,"
"I doubt he ever could hate you Hiccup," Tong comforted.
"What worries me is that he's here with all our enemies. And he hasn't forgotten his hatred for dragons. He lost his hand and foot to them," the thought of any harm coming to his surrogate father made his heart crack. Smokey and Sharpshot riding him licked his cheeks and purred into his cheeks.
"We'll figure something out," Toothless promised. "All of us together,"
As the final light of day died and the sky was dark and starless, they reached some cliffs and hiked up very, very carefully. They leaned over the edge and to their horror they saw a thousand ships, all large and small with terrifying weapons.
"This is horrible," cringed Sisu.
"We cannot let them invade our kingdoms," Raya swore on her life that Heart would never be lost to any enemy ever again.
"We won't," Hiccup swore. He pulled out a spyglass and glanced through. Tong, Luong, and Phuoc did too. "See anything guys?"
"Just loads of tents and crates and weapons being unloaded," the eldest cousin responded.
Luong peeped at the biggest ship in the centre. "Those must be all the chiefs,"
Hiccup raised his spying device and he saw them. The Grimborn brothers. Alvin the Treacherous. A man who he had never seen before. And to his bitter hatred, Stoick.
"That's him?" Raya whispered gently to him. Hiccup nodded. Toothless growled. He growled again when he saw Astrid appearing on deck.
"That man in the cape…" Hiccup shuddered. "That must be Krogan's Master. Drago Bludvist. And he's gonna regret coming to our shores,"
In a hidden lagoon, peering over the edge, Namaari raised her head spying on the party of soldiers. What information she could absorb, she needed it critically.
Benja, Renata and Sisu's siblings had sent messages at once to the other kingdoms. They watched as warriors flew on dragons to warn every corner of Kumandra. "Word is already spreading like wildfire," Pengu said to Benja.
"Let us hope we have the strength we need to defeat our enemies," Benja prayed. "And to protect Hiccup too. I dread to think what he is feeling right now,"
"We've protected Hiccup as long as we could," his sister-in-law said to him. "And Raya is right that we should let him stand with us,"
"A part of me wishes we'd try to broker peace but we mustn't risk anyone's lives on that debate. We didn't harm anything by freeing the dragons and taking them here. It is our enemies who now want this war and it is we who will finish it," he declared.
"We will gather all the water dragons. Whatever powers we have, these people will know nothing about them. We must ensure all our knowledge is safely guarded in the Spine mountains. We will return as soon as we can Chief Benja," Pengu summoned rain and he and his siblings charged across the rain on water platforms.
"Renata…see what else you can get out of our prisoners," he said. "In the meantime, we prepare all our people. If anyone dares to take one foot on this kingdom, they will regret it,"
"Benja, this may not be easy to say but if they do, our best chance of defence would be to destroy the bridge to the mainland,"
Benja sighed. So long they had worked on that sacred piece of construction to be a symbolism of union. "If it's the best way to keep Hiccup safe should they dare to come here, then so be it. Send men to watch over the bridge day and night and if an army approaches destroy it at once,"
Astrid walked about the top deck, joining Stoick and the other leaders. "So, we have to find out where they're holding Chief Dagur and your nephew," Drago addressed Stoick. But he didn't respond. He growled and banged his bullhook. "Answer me,"
"Don't do that in my presence!" roared Stoick.
Viggo was beginning to get curious too. "What's go you so twisted up inside?" he demanded, his brother crossing his arms behind him. Alvin cracked his knuckles.
Stoick realised he had sparked everyone's attention. Astrid shook her head and him but he sighed. He couldn't hide the truth. "My…former heir Hiccup…is here. In this land,". His current heir smacked her face.
The chiefs were alarmed, startled. "You mean to tell us that your son was raiding our empires and you did nothing about it?!" Drago accused. "You lied to us!"
"I thought he was dead!" retorted Stoick. "I wounded him when he tried to defend his Night Fury friend the day he was supposed to complete his final test,"
"He rides a Night Fury?" Ryker looked like he wanted to punch the daylights out of him. "And you didn't tell us they had a bond?!"
"I thought that wound would have killed him. And my people and I searched months for him and that Night Fury and we never found a trace. I didn't think they would survive out here. I didn't want this act of betrayal to be known?"
"And you were gonna keep that information to yourself from us by lying?" Viggo indicted furiously.
Astrid took a stand. "We're on your side! None of knew Hiccup was alive! We thought he was dead! For years! But he is a traitor to us and traitor we will deal with in good course!"
"We should have known better than to trust you Berkians," sneered Alvin.
"How dare you…" Stoick pulled out his sword. Alvin drew out his. They were about to clash when…
"ENOUGH!" Drago slammed his bullhook between them. They didn't fight but their sour glares remained hard as ice. "No one does this but me,". He eyed Stoick warily. "You wanna prove you're on the same side as us…give me your word you will kill this Hiccup, the moment you see him,".
Astrid felt her heart drop into the pit of her stomach. Meanwhile, Gobber who had climbed up to the deck to have some needful fresh air hid behind a mast. He felt like he was about to be sick. "No Stoick," he whispered to himself. "You can't,"
"I will," Stoick swore. He sheathed his sword and stormed off. Astrid was unresponsive to his words.
And Gobber still hidden from view nearby felt like he was going to be sick. Oh Stoick. What have you done?
Hiccup saw his ex-father march off the scene. He wished he could have heard what they were saying. By the angry looks on the chief's faces it was clear there had been a moment of dispute between them.
"Doesn't look a peaceful alliance," Tong commented.
"If only we could just get closer and find out. If there's anything I've learnt out there is that an alliance divided against itself doesn't stand," Hiccup said.
Let me go. Smokey flapped his wings.
"No way," Hiccup shook his head. "I won't let you risk your life like that,"
"I will go," Toothless declared.
"But I go with you," Hiccup said to him.
"And me," Raya clasped his hand. "Together?"
He nodded. "Together,"
"If you guys are gonna sneak towards that ship, we're gonna need a plan," Sisu said.
"It's gonna be harder than you think," Hiccup pointed to Viggo. "That's Viggo. Youngest of the two. But the leader, nevertheless. His weapon is his intellect. He plans every move step by step. I know just what we need to use," he pulled out a large pouch. Worried expressions formed on their faces.
"I don't like this Hiccup," Sisu humbly accepted what he had requested to her and her family but now that they were here so close to their enemies, it felt too dodgy.
"I know this is risky but I need you all to trust me," Hiccup implored.
Renata entered the dungeons with two guards. They came to Snotlout and Dagur again and shoved them into chairs in an interrogation room. "If you guys want to live, you're gonna have to start giving some more information,"
"What are you gonna do? Kill us?" Snotlout boasted.
Renata grinned wickedly at them. "We could,"
He froze. "You wouldn't,"
"Oh, but I would,"
"Snothat don't you dare think about it," Dagur seethed, outraged by his cowardliness.
"Shut up," Renata ordered Dagur.
"I am a chief…"
"I don't care if you're a chief or not. You're just a whimpering teen with no experience or sense of responsibility,"
"And I suppose Hiccup is worthy of ruling this place you call a kingdom?" Dagur challenged.
"He is a true and just man," Renata said with deep worthiness. "He has proven himself amongst our people,"
"And how is that so?" Snotlout asked.
"Why would I share that information with you? You bullied him all his life just for being him. And who's to say you might try to use that information for your own ends?"
"He is a traitor to his people!" Dagur roared. The soldiers guarding the door stamped their spears, silencing him at once. "He betrayed us for dragons,"
"You don't the meaning of the word," Renata spat back. "All he wanted was to bring peace between your people and their dragons,"
"They killed us!"
"In self-defence. They were forced to steal from your villages to survive, to keep giant dragons from eating them and their hatchlings. Now give me more answers, or I'll have you guys facing the Nightmare again,"
"You wouldn't," Snotlout challenged again, his fear reigning his face again.
Renata moved her eyeballs to the right and a large door opened revealing Hookfang with Boun. "You were saying?" goaded the teen. "Now, what do you have to offer?"
Namaari had seen from her hiding spot, the big argument on the ship. Looking through her telescope again, he saw Gobber march in his way downstairs. She had witnessed him hiding and shuddering as he had eavesdropped the conversation. Just then, in the distance, she saw a moving orb of blue rising into the sky. And by the looks of things, it had caught the attraction of all the Vikings on the beach. Her heart dropped into her stomach.
Astrid ran to the edge of the ship when she saw the blue glow in the distance. "What is that?" she wondered.
Viggo approached carefully. "Whatever it is, it could be some kind of dragon that lives here in this land.
"Men!" Drago called from the shores. "Check that out!"
Namaari watched as men started scurrying further up the shoreline to check out where the source of that glow was coming from. They placed down their crates carefully and pulled out their blades should any form of attack occur.
Sisu in her dragon form held the dragon gem high into the sky. She watched as the soldiers abandoned their post and majority of them left the ships alone. Her body flashed like a star; it was time to put her plan into motion.
Meanwhile from a far-off distance, Hiccup with Smokey and Sharpshot clung to his back and Raya rode Toothless between the border of the dark sea and dark sky blending in perfectly with their surroundings. They watched as Sisu's glow with the Dragon Gem drew many men away. They smirked. Then Hiccup patted his head. Splash! Toothless swam at a fast speed underwater towards the main ship. Then together with teamwork, they scaled up the wall of the ship like lizards and slipped through a window gap without being seen or heard.
Sisu led the soldiers towards the forest and then disappeared into the trees. "Where did it go?" one cried.
"It was just a shooting star,"
"Ridiculous! Stars don't fly about in a different directions!"
"It's just like Drago said! It's a strange kind of dragon and we need to capture it!"
Flash! Wave of blue energy emitted through the trees and partially blinded; the men braced themselves using their armoured hands to shelter their eyes. But when they came closer, all they saw before them was a blue fractured orb. "We were following an orb?" one blabbered out irritably.
"That would be my orb" spooked a voice Sisu came into their sights, human-formed. The men surrounded her.
"Think you're funny missy?" the heftiest one goaded. "Fooling around with us?"
"It's not me you should be worried about," Suddenly nets were thrown over some men. Then Tong came out of nowhere and banged their heads together before the nephews knocked the remaining others out.
"Pop goes the weasel!" Sisu sang as she changed back into her dragon self.
"Don't celebrate yet Sisu. Tong reminded. We've still got to make sure all focus remains on us," Phuoc reminded.
Hiccup and Raya snuck carefully in the lower decks of the main ship. The dragons keeping a sharp eye out for anyone. Creak. Creak. Creak. Someone was coming towards them. Quickly Hiccup pressed Raya in a corner and Toothless covered them with his wings. They blended into the dark shadows. Over the tip of big dragon's wing, Hiccup saw Stoick up close as he walked past by; they were invisible to him. He inhaled deeply, trying to push away the memory of that dark day from his mind. Toothless growled silently wishing he could blast that man more than anything. He would not risk exposing himself though. They watched as Stoick disappeared through the door. They heard his steps creaking the floor boards above them.
Just then they heard scrubbing from the next room. Hiccup raised his hand and Toothless and Raya stopped. He crept over carefully and pushed the door open slightly. Peeking inside he saw his other two childhood bullies. He glanced at Sharpshot who nodded at once.
"Can't believe we're still scrubbing this ship," whined Ruffnut.
"I'm tried!" Tuffnut groaned. "You go finish up!"
"No! You finish up!" Ruffnut turned the argument into a fighting game with their brooms. The sound of knock, knock stopped the fight. They turned their heads and saw it open, revealing a little Terrible Terror. "It's just a dragon,"
"I saw it first! I'm capturing it!" the moment Tuffnut took a step forward, Sharpshot launched at his face. "Get it off! Get it off!" he begged as it pulled at his nose. Ruffnut couldn't help laughing but she got a taste of her own medicine when Smokey appeared from the shadows and bit at her face too. Whilst the twins were distracted by the little dragons biting their faces, Hiccup and Raya dashed past them, Toothless slapped his tails at the twins, knocking them out.
The couple finally reached the main cabin and saw it was locked. "Okay here's the plan," Hiccup began. Blast! "I like yours better,"
"It was nothing," Toothless chortled. They entered inside, Raya holding a lantern. They saw a round cylinder item with a dragon head, maps, and information about…
"Kumandra," Raya touched the maps. She saw her kingdom, the other four kingdoms, information about water dragons…
"How do these guys know about us?" Hiccup breathed in horror.
Sharpshot and Smokey sniffed around, coming across dragon bones in a little cage. They shuddered and instantly flew back to Hiccup's back. "It's okay, guys," he soothed. "I'm here,"
Toothless turned human and started peering around too. He found a chest and opened it. "Uh guys…there's more," he heaved up the chest onto the desk and they all peered inside whilst Smokey and Sharpshot took guard.
"Where did all these items come from?" Hiccup wondered, picking up a spear that came from Fang.
Raya pulled out a small box but when she opened it, her mouth dropped and her breathing turned shallow. "Raya…" Hiccup moved to her side. "Raya, what is it?".
She pulled out a golden ring with an emerald embedded into it. "This was my mothers,"
The chiefs were getting impatient. Stoick arrived up. "What is going on?"
"The men spotted some sort of strange glowing creature westwards," Astrid pointed in the directions.
"Whatever kind of creature it is, if it's a dragon we need to examine it," said Drago. "Whatkind of abilities these new dragons have, they'll be no match for what I have in mind,"
Stoick became curious. "What do you mean?"
Tears fell from Raya's face. What was her mother's ring doing here? Of all places?
"How is the Queen's item of jewellery here?" Toothless wondered. "Unless..." he drifted off.
"No. No," Raya shook her head.
"Guys look!" Toothless pulled another item of jewellery out of the chest. It was a royal ring with the crest of Fang on it. Hiccup glanced at it carefully. "This must have belonged to Namaari's father,". His words made everyone shudder ever more. But these items meant something for certain.
Whilst Sharpshot was still keeping watching, Smokey wanted to take a break. He flew over to perch on a pile of books when he lost his balance and fell off making the novels land on top of him. "Smokey," Toothless growled. "This is no time for games,"
Hiccup picked a volume off the little smoker but when he flipped the book, he saw something. "Mother mumpkins!"
Raya shook out of her state and peered at the page. It was a drawing of a giant spiky beast of white with giant tusks and four feet the width of ships. "It's a dragon,"
"I have never seen one like this before," he breathed. He saw writing. "It says it's called a 'Bewilderbeast'. And it has..." his voice dropped.
"Has what?" Raya asked.
"The ability to control the minds of dragons,"
"That is not good at all," Toothless said. "If they have a dragon like that, we'll never be able to defeat them,"
"I doubt they do bud," Hiccup said, trying to calm him down. "They're probably extinct. We searched the Archipelago and we've encounter no Bewilderbeast at all. But we must take all this information away. And this," he grabbed the cylinder device and started packing the chest with all the volumes.
A map fell out of the pages. Raya bent down to pick it up. They saw red crosses in circles of islands not too far away from Kumandra. "It seems like he's been searching for it for a long time," she unfolded a corner and she saw a large circle uncrossed. "This island hasn't been searched,"
Hiccup peered closer and saw that it wasn't too far away from here. His mind clicked. "We have to get to that dragon before they do,"
"I don't understand. If they're trying to find this dragon, why bring all these ships with them?" Toothless wondered. Suddenly they heard the loud creaking of wood again, above their heads. "Time to go,"
And that's the next chapter done. See you all soon. I promise you all I'll update in January. Please let me know what you all thought. If you all think anything needs changing, please let me know. Thank you all so much for your support. And see you all soon.
