The Treasure Hunt Begins!

Ash and Pikachu were up early in the morning. They realized that they forgot to check in with Professor Sada after their battle with Nemona, having put his focus on Chloe. They made their way to the Professor's office and knocked on the door. "Come in!" exclaimed Sada. Ash and Pikachu entered and saw her working at her desk. "Professor Cerise never told me you'd be this late for appointments."

"Sorry," Ash said before seeing the Professor's mischievous grin. "I've had my focus on Chloe and a battle with Nemona."

"Chloe? Ah. Cerise's little girl. Is she adjusting well?"

"Yeah, but while I don't mind the company, it'll make one of my objectives quite a bit more difficult."

"How so?"

"Well, she asked me not to go into detail to anyone who asks, so I'll just give you the short version. Chloe and Goh were once childhood friends, but they had a falling out. No one's seen him since."

"Goh was with Project Mew, wasn't he?"

"He was. His fellow Chasers, my buddy Gary Oak included, were looking for him everywhere, including the Orange Islands. Once they get those combed through, the Decolore Islands and Paldea will be all that's left."

"I see," Sada said, thinking about what to do. "Director Clavell let you take Chloe on a treasure hunt, didn't he?"

"He did," Ash answered. "Why?"

"It might do you some good to wait until after he makes an announcement about the schoolwide project. In the meantime, you might want to check out the library. You'll be intrigued by what you find in there." Ash nodded and left for the library.

Meanwhile, Chloe and Eevee were just getting up. She got a change of clothes and went into her bathroom. After stripping out of her PJs, she looked at herself in the mirror. Ash then noticed something that he wasn't too surprised at: Regional variants. "Just Whooper and Tauros, huh?" he asked. "Kind of pales in comparison to Alola and Galar, wouldn't you agree, Pikachu?"

"Pika," Pikachu chirped out.

"What do you mean by that, Ash?" asked Chloe, who approached the Monarch.

"The regional variants," he answered. "Only Tauros and Whooper have them. Funny thing, though, do you remember how some of Galar's variants have evolved forms that are different from the usual one?"

"Yeah, like Galarian Meowth evolving into Perrserker instead of Persian, right?"

"Right. It's the case here with Wooper as well. Normally, Wooper – who is usually a Water/Ground-type – evolves into Quagsire. Wooper in the Paldea region, however, are Ground/Poison-types and evolve into Clodsire. See?" Ash revealed a couple of Pokémon with a muddy appearance. One looks like a brown Whooper, but with bones sticking out if its head instead of branches. The other looked like a mud fish with a tail.

"And what about Tauros?"

"There are three Breeds of Tauros in Paldea. There's the Combat Breed, which is a pure Fighting-type; the Blaze Breed, which is a Fire/Fighting-type; and the Aqua Breed, which is a Water/Fighting-type."

"Is there anything else we should know about?"

"Yeah, the Terastallization phenomenon. Basically, it's a temporary transformation that, at times, will change a Pokémon's type. Other than that, it works a lot like Mega Evolution, in that they'll stay in that state until they get knocked out. It's done through a special object called a Tera Orb."

"Do you think Nemona didn't use it because she forgot that you weren't a rookie?"

"That's possible. If so, I'd definitely look forward to a rematch. If this 'Terastallization' phenomenon is as cool as I hope it is, then you and Eevee could use it in your Pokémon Contest performances. Pikachu and I could certainly help out."

"Great!" she exclaimed excitedly, getting Ash to get up and use his hand to cover her hand up. Unbeknownst to Ash, this got the maroon-haired girl to blush. "Um, sorry about that. By the way, do you think Lucario could help too? I have a feeling that Terastallization is similar to Mega Evolution and he's the only one of your Pokémon you've used it with."

"Sure, but I'll have to call Professor Oak," he said. "Besides Pikachu, the only other one of my Pokémon I have with me is Pidgeot. It can Mega Evolve as well, but I'd have to go to Hoenn to get the right stone."

"I see. See, you know a lot more about these tactics than I do. It's why I can't wait for the treasure hunt to begin, so we can spend time training together."

"I promise you, Chloe, that you won't be disappointed."

"I know. I just know you'll help me improve my performances." Ash nodded before the intercom came on.

"May I have your attention please," came Professor Sada's voice. "Director Clavell has requested that all students gather out in front."

"I guess that's our cue," Ash said as he and Chloe got up.

The duo made their way to the front of the school, where the students awaited what Director Clavell had to say. Ash suddenly caught a couple of crystal orbs and spotted Nemona, whom he figured tossed them at him. The wink she gave the Kanto trainers told him that he was right. He gave one to Chloe in case it was what he figured it was. Soon, the director came up on stage. "It's good to have everyone here," he said on the mic. "Welcome to Naranja Academy. For those of you who are new, such as our esteemed guests from the Kanto region, we have a special project that we do every year called a Treasure Hunt. You may discover something new about yourself, something new about Pokémon…or perhaps literal treasure. Now, without further ado, let the Treasure Hunt begin!"

Ash and Chloe saw that the students eagerly went to start the project. "Talk about enthusiasm," Ash said, getting a nod from Chloe, Pikachu, and Eevee. He got his Rotom Phone out and scanned a lizard-like Pokémon.

"CYCLIZAR, THE MOUNT POKÉMON. A DRAGON/NORMAL-TYPE," it said. "CYCLIZAR ARE CAPABLE OF GOING UP TO 70 MILES PER HOUR, MAKING IT THE IDEAL TRANSPORTATION POKÉMON FOR HUMANS TO COVER GREAT EXPANSES OF LAND, SUCH AS THE PALDEA REGION."

"That's pretty cool."

"Cyclizar are pretty common for a Dragon-type," said Nemona. "You just have to know where to look."

"That's good to know. Thanks for these, by the way," he said, holding up the crystal orbs.

"No hay problema, querido. Those are Tera Orbs. Try it out and see what kind of Tera Type your Pokémon has."

"What do you say, Pikachu? Want to try it?"

"Pika!" Pikachu exclaimed excitedly. Ash set him down and got his Tera Orb ready. Nemona, to the shock of the Kanto duo, wrapped her left arm around Ash's chest from behind as she slid her right hand down his right arm, pressing her large breasts into his back.

"It's probably for the best," Ash said as Pikachu reverted back to his original state. "Two of Pikachu's moves are Electric-types, so that's a good thing."

"I guess. Well, hasta la vista, cariño! Hope you get the Tera Orb down pat!" Unbeknownst to the two, this irked Chloe, who didn't know why it did.

Ash and Chloe started their Treasure Hunt in Paldea's wilds. During their time walking, the Professor's daughter was still trying to figure out what cariño meant, having not studied the Paldean language. Luckily, she and Ash went back to the library and she checked out a book on the Paldean language. She looked it up and found the translation, peeved that she found out what she felt was the case: Nemona had been flirting with Ash the whole time.

They stopped by a riverbank and set up camp. After Ash pitched a tent, he offered to help Chloe with hers. The maroon-haired girl blushed, realizing that she forgot her tent back in Vermillion City. Luckily, she had her sleeping bag. A thought then crossed her mind. "Ash?" she asked.

"What's up?" he asked back.

"I was wondering something. Do you…Do you think I'm…a-attractive?"

"Of course." Ash's quick response shocked Chloe, whose blush deepened. "I take it you're worried about Nemona?"

"That was awesome!" exclaimed Ash. He showed her the video he took.

"Of course. I wish you would've told me you were in Paldea. I'd have made a special trip."

"It's called Terastallization. It works a lot like Mega Evolution, but your Pokémon's Tera Type is revealed through a Tera Orb. We're both going to Naranja Academy in Mesagoza, so a classmate of ours showed us how it works. We also got to see a couple of Pokémon native to Paldea since we got here. First was Quaxly, who is one of the Starters. Second was Cyclizar."

"Knowing you, you were probably excited."

"Serena, is that Chloe on the phone?" asked a female voice. Into view came a beautiful girl with light blue hair, blue eyes, and a white robe. "Look at that! It's your boyfriend as well! Hi, Ash!"

"Hi, Lisia!"

"What's going on?"

"I'll have to ask Director Clavell if I can participate in the Victory Road pathway if I'm already the Champion of a different region."

"Good idea. And again, sorry about Lisia."

"No worries. It just goes to show that she's more like her uncle than she thinks."

"Yep. Anyway, I've got to get going. It was good speaking to you two again. Chloe, I can't wait to see what you learn from Iono. And Ash."

"Yeah?"
