Chapter nine:

The next day Haruhi arrives to school and is setting her stuff up at her desk when she is handed a note. She blinks then looks over to Hikaru and Kaoru who are hanging out at Hikaru's desk not acknowledging her as they talk. She turns away and unfolds the note.

Hey. Just to let you know we overheard Tamaki and Kyouya talking about one mission that might be a solo or lower numbered thievery time. We don't know who they will send but we will see what happens at the end of the school day.

Haruhi has to reread the message and quietly swallows. She really hopes that they don't pick her as surely they wouldn't trust her to do a solo mission for them. She hides the note in her bag and she tries to focus on her classes for now.

The lunch bell rings and students head out to get food with the teacher going afterwards.

Haruhi is about to start her lunch with everyone else gone. She turns as notices someone head her way. She sees Hunny.

"Hey Haru-Chan." Hunny greets with a smile. "Did you manage to figure out what was bothering Hika-Chan?"

"I think so. He was just secretly wary of me being a part of your group now. He was worried I might ruin their friendship with you guys. He didn't want to tell Kaoru because he thinks that he has to look out for him. He didn't tell me everything directly but he did tell me enough for me to be able to understand. He still clearly doesn't trust me even after our interaction."

"Oh." Hunny blinks and glances down thoughtful before nodding his head looking relieved. "Well that should be something that'll be okay in time." He gives a big smile to Haruhi. "I know that you don't mean anything bad towards any of us Haru-Chan! Hika-Chan will come around! Just give him some time! Thank you so much for finding that out! See you later!" He rushes off after that.

"Yeah. See you later." Haruhi responds despite that Hunny can't hear her. She shrugs and turns back to her lunch.

At the end of the day…

Haruhi makes it to the club room finding that the others are waiting like a meeting yet the room is set up for club activities. She just goes over to them keeping that note she was given in mind.

Tamaki clears his throat to indicate the meeting start. "So. Me and Kyouya have been talking. And we are going to send a smaller group on slightly solo mission." He looks over them all. "This place is not like our other targets so far. However there is very valuable items there. We are going to get our hands on it. Before do our club activities I will announce who has been chosen for this mission. We picked those that will be able to navigate the layout the best." He looks over them all again before settling on Hunny. "Hunny. You and Mori have been chosen for this." He then turns to Haruhi who feels her heart drop into the pit of her stomach. "And Haruhi. You as well?"

"Me?" Haruhi blinks at Tamaki hoping that this is some sort of mistake.

"Yes. This job is in needed for the smaller members of our group. Too much smaller areas are needed to be navigated. Mori is going as extra man power if needed and as a look out while you and Hunny will do the thieving. This will all go down tomorrow night. So be ready. Before you go home Kyouya will hand you guys the information you will need for this job." Tamaki explains and Haruhi just nods hating that this is happening. He claps his hands together with a smile on his face switching from being so serious as he was a moment ago. "Let's have a wonderful club time with our princesses!"

Everyone separates in order to prepare before they take on customers.

Haruhi smiles to those that are sitting with her while keeping the news out of her mind for now.

"Haruhi? I hope its not too personal though I wanted to ask you something." One girl mentions and Haruhi blinks curiously.

"It's alright. I'll let you know. You don't need to be afraid to ask me anything." Haruhi encourages to the girl who looks happier at this encouragement.

"Why did you come to this school in the first place? I mean surely there must be a reason that you picked this school in particular."

Haruhi realizes that she probably isn't going to be able to actually tell the full truth. She can't lose her scholarship here. "Well I picked this school to try to get a scholarship for so I could attend because it is meant to bring success. I do understand the whole being thieves as a part of our schooling. So it is fine. I wish to succeed even if that means that I will learn ways to be a good thief on top of normal schooling. I really am fine with it all. I have high hopes for my future this way. Plus the lessons to steal things could come in handy one day. I should be prepared for whatever happens in the future." She truly isn't and is only enduring it to be able to get where she wants to be in life. She just can't tell the girls that she is using this school to help her have a better chance for the next step in her career path.

"Wow. You're really ambitious." The girl that had asked the question mentions with an amazed look. "I didn't know commoners could be this ambitious with what they want to do."

"We can be. Commoners can even work hard and end up becoming rich famous people." Haruhi informs the girls who do look impressed by this as though they hadn't even thought of that being a thing that happens.

"Well if we see you in the future as someone rich and famous hopefully you'll have room for someone by your side." Another girl mentions to which Haruhi lets out a small hum of agreement before responding.

"I probably will. I will make sure to keep you girls in mind. You are all quite beautiful after all. Any of you would look great at my side when I am rich and famous." Haruhi gets strong blushes from all the girls. She just hopes that the club time is almost over because she wants to prepare herself mentally for having to do the mission. She really hopes that she doesn't end up screwing everything up some how. She is quite nervous about the whole thing. She wishes that there had been someone else smaller than her that could have gone instead. She mentally shakes it off for now as she'll just have to try to get through it like she always does.

Later…

Haruhi is sitting at the table doing some work on planning for the mission she is going to be going on. She looks up with a gasp quickly covering it up with homework when her father comes in announcing he's home. "Hey dad." She greets with a calm look.

"Oh my darling Haruhi!" Her father looks at her with happy tearful eyes. "How was your day at school?! Those kids aren't being mean or anything right!?"

"School was good. And no dad. They're being nice." Haruhi tells her father who does look relieved to hear this. "I've got homework to do. I am almost done. I left some supper on the stove for you. Help yourself."

"Do you need help?" Her father blinks hopefully.

"No. Like I said I am almost done." Haruhi does see disappointment though is glad that her father accepts what she said.

"Ok. I will let you be so you can focus." Her father heads off to the kitchen to see what she had made for supper.

Haruhi lets out an almost silent sigh of relief that she managed to hide the truth of what is a part of her schooling from her father. She knows that he would take her out of the school if he found out what kind of things happen there. She really hopes that he never finds out about it, or that if he does then she will have already graduated from this school. For now she tries to get her focus back onto her work she needs to get done.
