Chapter Six: Tara's Hospital Visit
Its the early evening Sam and Richie walk down a Woodsboro Hospital hallway on their way to Tara's recovery room.
Sam squeezes Richie's hand, takes a breath, and enters...
"Chica, you're here." Christine said going over to hug her daughter.
"Hey mommy." Sam said. "This is Richie my boyfriend."
"Nice to meet you Mrs. Carpenter." Richie said extending his hand to her.
"Richie nice to meet you to." Christine said being polite.
Sam sees Tara and stops in her tracks. She isn't a pretty sight. Around the room are Amber, Mindy, Wes, Mike, Nate, Stacy and Chad. Amber glares at Sam as she goes to Tara's side.
"Hey... How you feeling?" Sam asked going over to sit next to her little sister.
"You came." Tara said weakly.
"Of course I did. you're my little hermenita. Mom called me. I came running." Sam said wrapping her arm around her sister.
"Its long run from modesto." Tara said attempting a joke. Sam smirked.
"Richie drove me." Sam said.
"Who's Richie?" Tara asked.
"Uh right here." Richie said waving his hand. They turned to him.
"This is my boyfriend, Richie." Sam said introducing him.
"You brought a date?" Amber asked annoyed. Christine looked over at Amber frowning. She did not like Amber and didn't believe she was right for her daughter. Christine knew Tara is bisexual and didn't care so long as her partner made her happy. She was glad that Tara broke it off with her; though she'll never tell her daughter that.
"Don't start..." Tara said. Amber rolled her eyes. So did Sam.
Richie squats next to Tara.
"It's very nice to meet you and I hope I'm not intruding." Richie said.
Tara smiles at him as Chad, Mindy, and Wes embrace Sam. Mike, Nate and Stacy all wave to her she waves back.
"This is Chad and Mindy, the twins, and Wes Hicks. I used to babysit them all." Sam said.
"Which is always how I like to be introduced." Wes said jokingly. Richie smiled shaking their hands in turn as Sam looks back to Tara.
"And they are Mike, Nate and Stacy." Sam said as they waved to Richie who waved back.
"Mom, where's dad?" Sam asked.
"He should've been here by now." Christine said.
Just as she said that, a man walked into the room. It was Ben. His six foot four inch frame moved into the room. He was carrying his suitcase as well as another bag for Tara along with flowers.
"Papi." Tara said weakly greeting her dad.
"Mija. Thank god." Ben said going over to her. "You ok baby?"
"I was so scared papi." Tara said as Ben held her.
"I'm here mija. It's gonna be ok." Ben said hugging her. "Hey baby girl." Greeting Sam.
"Hey papi." Sam said. "Papi, this is Richie my boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?" Ben questioned looking up at Richie.
"Hi Mr. Carpenter. It's nice to meet you." Richie said extending his hand. Ben shook it.
"Nice to meet you to. You like my baby girl?" Ben asked.
"Yes sir." Richie said.
"Ok." Ben said turning back to Tara. Richie steps back. Christine watches the whole encounter wondering about Sam and Richie's relationship.
"Papi, why don't you, mommy and me stay in the room with Tara?" Sam asks.
"Of course." Ben said.
"And if it's ok with you guys Richie can stay to." Sam said. Ben and Christine look at each other.
"Sure why not? It'll give us a chance to get to know you." Christine said. Richie nods a little nervous.
"What do you think about that mija?" Ben asked.
"I'd like that." Tara said smiling happy her parents and sister are there. She felt safer.
Amber opens her mouth, but Wes places a hand on her shoulder.
"Maybe we should let them be together." Wes said.
Amber looks to Tara, who subtly nods. Amber, obviously a little hurt, but plants a kiss on Tara's forehead anyway.
"Text me if you need anything. You want this back for tonight?" Amber asks.
She fingers a silver necklace she wears. Sam notices.
"No, you keep it. For luck." Tara said.
"I love you." Amber mouthed the words to Tara.
Tara nods and smiles. She doesn't say it back because she doesn't love her. Amber broke her heart cheating on her one too many times and they broke up. Amber stayed close to her hoping for one last chance but Tara hasn't reciprocated her feelings. Wes, Mindy and Chad say their goodbyes and file out of her room. They are followed by Mike, Nate and Stacy. Richie who decided to grab some coffee leaving the sisters and their parents alone. Tara nods. Sam is sitting to her left and Ben is at her right side. Christine sits next to her leg. Eyes starting to fill with tears.
"Sissy, you ok?" Sam asked noticing the tears. Tara said breaking down.
"I was so scared..." Tara said starting to cry. "I thought I was gonna die."
"We're here now baby." Christine said.
"We're not going anywhere mija." Ben said holding her.
"We are taking care of you ok." Sam asked. Tara nods. Sam holds her sobbing sister.
There's a knock at the door.
"Come in." Ben said. Sheriff Hicks enters the room.
"Hey everyone." Sheriff Hicks said. They nod greeting the sheriff. "Tara how you holdin up?"
"Ok. Glad to be alive." Tara said.
"Are you feeling up to answering a few questions?" Sheriff Hicks asks.
"Yes." Tara said.
"Ok. Sheriff Hicks said. "Can you tell me what happened?"
"I was home making some Roman noodles and I was texting my ex Amber when the landline rings. Some dipshit called me scaring me threatening to kill her. I grab the knife thinking I'm gonna try and save her but the moment I opened the door, a person dressed in a ghostface costume is there and cuts my abdomen." Tara said. Ben and Christine stare at each other and then at Sam and Tara. Sheriff Hicks looked up from her note pad. "I shut the door and locked it hoping ghostface didn't get in. He did." Tara continued.
"How did he get into the house?" Sheriff Hicks asked.
"From the back. He attacked me stabbing me in my abdomen, I fought back as hard as I could." Tara said starting to cry again. Sam instinctively rubs her shoulder. "He stabbed my hand, my side and my back. He stabbed me in my leg then broke my ankle. I was afraid I was gonna die. He must've heard the sirens cause he knocked me." Tara said crying.
"You think the suspect is a male?" Sheriff Hicks asked.
"I don't know but the person was tall so I assume." Tara said.
"Ok Tara thank you for the info. I promise we will find the person who attacked you ok?" Sheriff Hicks asked. She nods. She looks to both Christine and Ben signaling them to follow her outside of Tara's hospital room. They do. "This is not good." She said.
"What do you mean?" Ben asked.
"Ghostface?" She asked quietly. "You two are from here, you know the legacy of ghostface." Sheriff Hicks said.
"Sadly we do but doesn't ghostface always go after Sidney and her husband?" Ben asked.
"Normally but she and Billy haven't lived here since they left for college." Sheriff Hicks said.
"The last time it happened was seven years ago when she was in town on her book tour." Christine said.
"I remember. She left town again with her husband, boys and Jill Roberts." Sheriff Hicks said.
"So why now? And why our daughter?" Christine asked.
"I don't know but I'm gonna find out. Just keep her spirits up ok?" Sheriff Hicks said. Both nod.
"Thanks Judy." Christine said. She nods before leaving. Both parents had back into the room with their girls.
