Hello everyone,
This is my first story, so I don't know if it will be the best, but I'm trying.
First of all I know that Hector Dagworth-Granger wasn't born in this time period, but we're just going to pretend he does. I might change a few things in the plot, but hopefully you'll enjoy the changes. Also this is a slow-burn Sirmione book, when I mean slow-burn, I mean slooow-burn, but just please bear with me. Anyways I know people don't usually read the author intro and they skip over it (I usually do, lol) but if you did read it, thank you. Enjoy
Btw I do not own any characters (well some) all characters belong to J.K. Rowling
Hermione Grace Dagworth-Granger walked in between her father, Hector William Dagworth-Granger, and her brother, Alexander Edward Dagworth-Granger, in the street of Diagon Alley. It was July 31, 1971 and it was Hermione's 1st year at Hogwarts and Alexander's 5th year and they were getting their school supplies.
"Maya, let's go get your books before we get your other supplies." said her father.
"I can take her," said Alexander, "plus, who knows how long she'll look at books and you can't say no to her."
"Well how can you say no to those eyes." her father said, chuckling. "Very well, you can take her.
Hermione and her brother walked into the book store and Hermione immediately left her brother and scanned through the shelves and every few minutes picking up a book. As Hermione tried to find her brother while carrying a large stack of books, someone bumped into her and she and all the books fell to the ground. When she got up she saw snooty looking women, dressed in all black, walking away.
"Hag." Hermione muttered under her breath, but loud enough for the women to hear.
"What did you say!" the women demanded.
Hermione looked the women in the eyes and repeated,"I called you a hag."
"HOW DARE YOU, DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!" the woman screeched.
"Well, nobody of importance seeing that I don't know who you are." Hermione retorted.
"I AM LADY BLACK, OF THE NOBLE AND MOST ANCIENT HOUSE OF BLACK AND YOU ARE WORTHLESS CHILD WHO SHOULD LEARN HOW TO RESPECT HER SUPERIORS!
"Seeing that you are screeching like a banshee at a child, I wouldn't assume that you're superior to me and you certainly don't have my respect. Now this has been a lovely conversation but I must be going." she said before turning away.
Lady Black raised her wand and was about to cast a spell when Alexander came to Hermione, he saw the wand and quickly moved Hermione out of the way.
"What do you think you are doing raising your wand at an 11 year old girl!" he said angrily at the women.
"THAT PETULANT GIRL INSULTED ME!"
"This petulant girl only called you a hag because you bumped me to the ground and didn't even apologize." Hermione said, glaring at the women.
"I DON'T NEED TO APOLOGIZE TO YOUUU, I AM LADY BLACK, OF THE NOB.."
"Noble and most ancient house of black bla, bla, bla… no one cares about that house nonsense." mocked Hermione.
"I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT IT IS OF THE MOST IMPORTANCE, YOU ARE JUST A MUDBLOOD WHO KNOWS NOTHING!"
"That is enough. Lady Black I apologize on behalf of my sister, but I can assure you that I will make sure that everyone knows how unacceptable your behavior was." Alexander said.
"And how would YOU be able to make anyone listen to you, I doubt that you are anyone of importance seeing that you are just mudbloods." Lady Black said arrogantly.
"You may think what you want, but I can assure you that if you met our father you would think differently, now if you'll excuse us, we must be going. Good day." he said sternly, before guiding Hermione out of the bookshop.
"Hermione, what was that!" he scolded, once they left the shop.
"She was rude and told me that I should respect her because she was "superior" to me! Did you expect me to just ignore her, plus I only called her a hag quietly, it's not my fault that she heard me! Hermione argued.
Alexander rolled his eyes, "You should have just ignored her, you already know how those Sacred 28 families are. Anyways, father is waiting for us at Ollivander's, we better go."
"Father, have you gone to the bookshop? There are so many books that I haven't seen before! Do you think we can stop by again before we leave? Hermione asked as soon as she saw her father.
"Calm down Hermione, yes, we can stop before we leave, but I think you might want your wand first." said her smiling father.
"10 inches, elm, and unicorn hair" said a voice behind them.
They turned around where they saw an old man come from behind a shelf.
"11 ¾, oak, and phoenix feather," he said looking at Alexander."I remember every wand I ever sold, but I don't remember you so you must be looking for a wand." he said turning to Hermione.
"Well, stand up straight and let's find you a wand," he said, pulling out a measuring tape.
Ollivander measured her forehead to her nose, her arms to her legs and, and her elbows to her knees, when he finally pulled out a box.
"10 ½, walnut, unicorn hair"
The window behind them broke.
"No no, that won't work… let's try this, 12 inches, elm, dragon heartstring."
The counter lit on fire.
"No worries," he said quickly, putting it out with a quick Aguamenti, "We'll find it soon enough.
After going through a dozen different wands, Ollivander thought for a minute before rummaging through the back.
"Try this" he said as he handed her an old looking box.
Hermione opened it and saw a beautiful, dark brown wand that was intricately designed with small flowers. She picked it up and gave a small wave and a bright swirl of colors came from it and went in the air.
"9 ¾, oak, phoenix feather. Interesting, very interesting." Ollivander said, looking back and forth from the wand and Hermione.
"What's so interesting?" asked Hermione.
"This core comes from a very rare phoenix, the Seven Colored Phoenix, it controls all four elements: fire, water, earth, and air. The Seven Colored Phoenix can only be seen once every millennium. This wand was made by one of the first Ollivanders and has been here ever since. It takes a powerful individual to be able to handle a Seven Colored Phoenix core and one has to be pure of heart, but you must be careful, Seven Colored Phoenix core wands will turn against you if they see you are not pure of heart and its consequences can be devastating… well, that will be 7 galleons." he said, putting the wand back in its case as Hermione, Alexander, and Hector all stared at him.
Hector silently handed 7 galleons to him and led Hermione and Alexander outside the shop.
"Well, who wants ice cream?" he asked cheerfully.
Hermione and Alexander looked at each other before nodding their heads.
It was September 1, 1971, better known as Hogwarts day to all the first years, Platform 9 ¾ was filled with parents and children hugging, crying, and saying goodbye.
Hermione hugged her father and felt her eyes begin to water, she quickly wiped away her tears so that her father would not see; she knew that if he saw her crying he might consider homeschooling her as he originally wanted to do. Her father and brother have always been protective of her since she was the youngest and the only daughter, but ever since Hermione's mother had died when she was 4 years old, they have been overprotective.
"Hermione, we have to go before all the compartments get taken up." called her brother.
"Coming," she said before turning back to her father, "I'll miss you, but don't worry about me, Alex will be there and I'll owl you every week with his owl."
"You're getting so grown, but you'll always be my little girl," he said, hugging her tightly.
"Father… I'm not that old, you're making me sound like I'm moving out," Hermione complained.
"Who said you could move out, I'm just kidding dear," he said, seeing that Hermione was about to protest, "I'll miss you too, and you better write or I'll send a letter to the headmaster himself to see that you send me one."
"I love you," Hermione said, hugging her father one last time.
"I love you too, now you better go on, your brother looks like he'll drag you across the station at any moment." he said, hugging her back before letting go.
Hermione quickly walked to her brother who grabbed her hand and led her onto the train.
"What compartment should we sit in Mia?" asked Alexander.
"You can go sit by your friends, Alex. Plus, if I want to make any friends, then I can't sit with you, because you'll scare all of them." she said laughing,
"Are you sure?" he said before seeing the look on her face, "Okay, but I'll take care of your trunk, and by the way you wouldn't need me to be there to scare any of your friends, they would hear my name and instantly be scared." he said arrogantly.
Hermione rolled her eyes before pushing him away and walked in the opposite direction. She chose a compartment that was at the end of the train and opened the door where she saw 4 boys: one with dark, unruly hair, hazel eyes, and glasses, another with blonde hair and watery, blue eyes, one with styled, black hair and grey eyes, and one more with sandy colored hair and brown eyes.
The grey eyed boy stood up and pointed at her.
"You're the girl who called my mother a hag!" he exclaimed.
Hermione looked at him with a bored expression on her face.
"I don't recall," she said ,before she closed the door on his surprised face and walked away.
A sound of a door banging open came and footsteps running came from behind Hermione..
"Wait…wait… wai.." a voice behind her called before crashing into her.
"Like mother, like son," Hermione grumbled, before picking herself off the ground.
"Sirius Orion Black the 3rd" the boy said, sticking out his hand.
Hermione looked at his hand with indifference before going into the nearest empty compartment and locking the door. Sirius stared at the door before grinning.
"James, I think I'm going to have a great year." he said.
"Black, Sirius!" Professor McGonagall called.
"GRYFFINDOR!" the hat cried out.
The silence was loud, murmuring came from all around the hall, when suddenly loud clapping came from the crowd of unsorted first years and quickly all of Gryffindor joined in, with Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff politely clapping; Slytherin was silent, quietly whispering to each other.
"Evans, Lily!"
"GRYFFINDOR!"
The sorting soon went back to its normal pace, when soon enough Hermione's name was called.
"Dagworth-Granger, Hermione!"
"Ah, Miss Dagworth-Granger, you will be an interesting sorting," the talking hat began.
"Interesting? How?" Hermione said, looking up at the hat.
"Well it seems as if you have all the qualities to be in any house: the loyalty of a Hufflepuff, the bravery of a Gryffindor, the cunningness of a Slytherin, and the intelligence of a Ravenclaw."
The hat became silent for a couple minutes, when Hermione finally spoke again.
"Well, are you going to sort me or not."
"Would you like to be in charge of sorting hundreds of children into the correct house that they determine as their personality for the rest of their lives." it said snarkily.
"You don't need to get so angry, I've been waiting a lot longer than the others for their sortings and everyone is staring at me."
"Yes, you would be what they call a hat-stall."
"Well, if the hat would quit stalling and put me in a bloody house already, then I wouldn't be in this situation." Hermione grumbled.[
"Language, language, Miss Dagworth-Granger."
"Just sort me into a house!" she snapped.
"With that temper I might as well put you in Gryffindor." the hat commented.
"Why don't I make this easier for you. I don't want to be in Gryffindor, because most of them don't think before they do and I don't need to be in a house filled with incompetent people, I don't want to be in Hufflepuff, because they are too friendly and too open, they would expect me to be the same and I don't really care about pretending for 7 years that I am, I don't want to be in Slytherin, because I don't need everyone to automatically assume I am evil and I don't need to be around all that blood purity nonsense, so that leaves Ravenclaw, where I would be more than happy to be in, because they actually value intelligence and mind their own business."
"Well since you have decided that you don't need me and you can do my job, you better be…."
"RAVENCLAW!" that hat said out loud.
Everyone at the Ravenclaw table stood up and cheered, as did Slytherin, led by her brother; while Hufflepuff and Gryffindor politely clapped. Hermione quickly made her way to her new house's table, sat down, and pulled out a small book from her pocket and began to read, ignoring the rest of the sorting. She was unaware of the pair of grey eyes that kept glancing back at her bowed head.
Sirius Pov:
Sirius sat on the stool shocked when he heard the sorting hat call Gryffindor, he soon replaced his shocked face with a wide smile and soon Gryffindor stood up cheering while Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw politely clapped; Slytherin was silent. He quickly sat down on the bench to watch the rest of the sorting.
"Dagworth-Granger, Hermione" called Professor McGonagall
"Dagworth-Granger? Well mother will definitely regret yelling at her," he thought laughing, "Hermione, well that's an interesting name, but an interesting name for an interesting girl."
It was suddenly very quiet and Sirius looked back at the girl, she had an annoyed look on her face and was looking up at the hat.
"It's been 6 minutes, she's the longest hat-stall in Hogwarts history," one girl said.
"No, what about Professor McGonagall?" the boy next to her asked.
"No, she was 5 ½ minutes, this girl has been 6, no 6 ½ minutes."
The boy was about to say something when he was interrupted.
"RAVENCLAW!" the hat finally cried out.
Sirius observed the girl as she quickly walked to her seat and sat down, he then noticed her pull something out of her pocket and realized it was a book.
"What a swot, well I can work with that."
"Lupin, Remus!"
Sirius turned his attention back to the sorting once he heard his new friend's name.
"GRYFFINDOR!"
The quiet boy's eyes lit up in excitement as he made his way towards Sirius and gave him a high five. Soon the sorting ended and all 4 boys chatted about the first day, Sirius was only half paying attention, he was more interested in watching the Dagworth-Granger girl.
"What about you, Sirius?" said the voice beside him.
"Huh? Oh, what did you say again?" he asked James.
"I asked if you play quidditch. What's got your attention?" James looked behind Peter at the Ravenclaw table,"The hat-stall?!"
"Her name is Hermione and she's not just the hat-stall, she's the girl that humiliated my mother and that I'm going to marry one day." he said confidently.
"Don't you think you're getting ahead of yourself?" commented Remus.
"Yeah didn't she ignore you and slam the door in your face." James said, smirking.
"She just doesn't realize it yet, she will soon enough" He said, kicking James' foot.
"OW!" cried James,"That was unnecessary."
But Sirius wasn't paying attention, he was watching the girl again.
