Hi, so another chapter and just two more to go!
Also some of you may know by now some of you may not I tend to do a double update around Christmas to pump out as many chapters as I can. So there will defo be one if not more chapters following this as soon as this one is published.
And yeah, this took a bit of a turn. Enjoy anyway.
I did not plan to take Jake and Harrison down this route but I knew he wasn't going to stay with Anna forever and so this took a shape. I think Jake is probably bisexual, I think that was developed over time but if you don't like then don't read.
Disclaimer-Nothing is mine
Please Read and Review and I will do my best to bring you the final chapter straight after this one!
I know there is some debate as to when Toby's Dad gets to the US but I chose to have him in an occupied country until he was able to escape.

Chapter 27-Safe Enough
As Andy goes into labour Jake gets a visit from his grandfather leading to him making a confession. Good thing Mr Zeigler Sr can set a boy straight. Penultimate Chapter.
Jake played the message again, and again and again and again.
Andy was in labour. His father was by her side.
He was about to be a big brother.
Fuck.
He didn't know why that bugged him, he didn't know why that was the thing that bugged him, he had known that this was coming for months, he had known that this was coming and he had thought he was ready for it but now that he was sitting on his couch listening to the proof he found that he was a cross between nervous, excited and irritating.
He closed his eyes and then opened them only when he was aware of a knocking at the door.
"Hello?"
"Jacob it's me?"
"Grandpa?"
He opened the door and there was his grandpa.
Now to understand this part of the story one has to understand that Jake had met his grandfather once or twice. Once when he was a child and the man turned up to see him and his mother had opened the door and not realised what a quagmire of mess she was stepping into—her words not Jake's—and the second time when he had been at the White House that Christmas and he had learnt that his grandfather had been a hired mob killer.
Which…look Jake knows is not good okay…he knows. But still…that kind of thing only happens in the movies but he also thinks that it is kinda cool.
His grandfather beams and then his smile drops.
"Did I come at a bad time? Tobias said he would be off work—"
"Andy's in labour"
"With the twins"
"Yes"
The brow furrowed. "You do not want to be there?"
"Not really"
His grandfather eyed him for a second and then.
"Invite me in"
"Okay"
"I am going to make soup"
"Okay—"
"And you and I are going to talk about what is making you so frowny"
"Frowny?" he asked shutting the door.
"I can see it in your eyes. You have that look of the perpetually stressed. It's a generational look. Just be glad your father uses it for work and not because of the Nazi's like mine used to"
Jake opened his mouth and then shut it again. There was very little he could say to that.
"I don't mind the idea of being a big brother" he said sitting down at the table. "It was just—"
"It was just easier to be a big brother when the babies were inside Andrea and not outside?"
"Yes" he said nodding his head again and then he back to cooking at the stove.
Jake tapped his nails against the table for a second and then.
"Do you want to tell me what is really bothering you?"
"I just did."
"No you just told me part of it. I am only here to make soup Jacob, I have a flight out of Dallas tonight to go back to New York babies or no babies—"
"I kissed my best friend"
"That is a problem"
"He's a boy"
His grandfather turned to look at him looking distinctly unimpressed.
"And I ask again, is that a problem?"
Jake blinked and then he closes his eyes and opened them again suddenly unable to stop the tears that were nearly falling. He didn't know what to say to that, didn't know how to say anything really but his grandfather seemed to know exactly what he was thinking because he sighed coming to the edge of the table and wrapping his body around Jake's in a hug.
"Son" he said quietly. "There are many things in this world that are unnatural. You loving who you love is not nor has it ever been one of them and I resent that you would think that it would matter. I have seen too many men, woman and children march their way to the gas chambers both when I was living in America and before to care about the little things. You love who you love. As long as they are of age and they consent then why do I care?"
"It's not that simple" he said wiping his eyes. "I like both…men and woman it's called—"
"I know what it's called I watch CNN from time to time. I don't understand much of it and I know that I am an old fool but I know what bisexuality is. The world is a better place because of love. I've seen what hatred can do the more you love the better. So…what does it matter?"
Jake nodded as the soup boiled off and his grandfather went back to the pan.
"Mom and Dad—"
"Your mother will not care and neither will your father" his grandfather ruled. "I know this…and as for temple…well…if your Rabbi has a problem then we will find you one that does not"
Jake opened his mouth and shut it again.
It was impossible to tell the old man that he had not been to temple in about three years. Religion was a sticky wicket for him when one thought about it.
But the more he thought about it the more that he was determined to keep that part of it to himself.
He closed his eyes wiping his fingers underneath his eyelids.
There was a pause as he sat there and his grandfather spooned in soup into the bowl and then…
"So while we wait you can tell me all about your young man?"
"He's not Jewish"
"Small potatoes son" the man said waving a hand aside as if that was the least of his worries. "Let's focus on weather he is nice or not"
Jake grinned and ate his soup until his father called him which ironically was just before his grandfather went home.
He had a brother and a sister.
And that was an hour before the world went to hell.
CJ had been eating peanuts and catching up on work when her phone rang. Jake had messaged that he was on his way in and that he was bringing her a change of clothes. She didn't want to go home to her empty apartment and think on what Danny had said and what Leo had confirmed to her this morning. She did not want to think on what the President had said about Sharif. She did not want to think about how many laws both legal and morally they had broken. She did not want to think about Toby either. She just wanted to sit in her office and eat peanuts and drink bear until she couldn't think anymore.
But her phone rang and she grappled for it. There was a hush in the office, it was late.
"CJ"
It was Josh and there was something in his tone that had her sitting up the file falling to her lap and then to the floor. Carole her coat half on stood by the door watching. Even Carole knowing as she knew by her reaction knew that something was wrong.
"CJ"
"What Josh?"
"You gotta…I mean you gotta…CJ where's Leo?"
"Leo?"
Carole was reaching for her phone.
"I need…CJ we need Leo we've got a problem. We've got a real fucking problem. It's…it's Zoe"
"Zoe?"
"Leo's in the situation room" Carole said softly. Josh must have overhead.
"CJ find out if Ron Butterfield is there…actually fuck…get him out. Use the code, old friend from home—"
"Josh—"
"CJ JUST DO IT!"
"Old friend from home Carole, get him out of there now!"
Carole her face white went running to find Margaret. She got down the hallway and then Donna was back her face white too.
"Leo just ran down the hallway with Ron Butterfield he's heading into the Residence. Secret Service are locking down the place. Jake's at the gates too but they don't know…CJ I don't know what is happening but do you want—"
"GET MY SON IN THE WHITE HOUSE NOW!" she snarled and Donna nodded going off at a run. Ainsley stopped by the door her hand on her curving bell. Amy was right behind her and CJ scrambled for a posit. She wrote Sam and Toby's names on it and handed it to Ainsley who nodded going for Carole's spare phone.
"Josh what's happening"
"I don't…fuck it's Zoe. I…Wesley Davies had called it in. She's missing"
"Missing?"
"Missing…taken. I don't…I don't know"
"How the hell can she be missing? Look I know there was a thing with Annie a while back in the early days and she was playing a joke—"
"Molly O Conner is dead"
CJ felt her knees give out. She sat back down on her couch.
"Mom?"
She held up a hand as Jake stood at the doorway.
"Dead?"
"Yeah. They…it's a bullet, close blank range through the head. She didn't see it coming at least that's what I am hearing, everything is madness here, Charlie and I have got to speak to some agents but you have to get ready CJ there is press all over the place here and they know something has happened"
CJ closed her eyes. The Briefing Room. God half of them were still here filing stories for the weekend. She didn't want to think about what was going to happen when the phones started ringing off the hook. Junior reporters, interns maybe covered the parties and if they weren't ringing their producers right now then they were sure as shit ringing their editor.
Fuck she had to think.
"Okay…" she said as Josh started garbling. "How long do you think you will be?"
"I don't know. Sam. Toby, Will…you gotta get them all back there. You gotta run the thing until I can, Leo's gonna be in the Sit Room with the President, CJ you gotta keep Abby away from the press you gotta make sure that they don't speculate about what is happening, Casper's gonna be there from the FBI take all your leads from him and hunker down. This is the end of the world here and I don't…" he sounded winded and she shivered. She didn't dare to think about what Josh was thinking right now, sirens, lights, banging, shouting…for all the hard work that he had done since the shooting which felt oh so very long ago, she knew that it was the little things that brought it all back for him.
"Josh I'm gonna go and see whose about" she said pointing to Donna. Donna took the phone and sat down on her couch and CJ grabbed Jake and tucked him outside of the room throwing her clothes on Carole's desk.
"Listen your gonna need to stay here I need you to call your father and get him back here, I need you to keep calling him until he comes back can you do that?"
"Yeah"
"We may need you to do other things tonight do you understand? Call Congressman, Senators, get them back to Washington pronto by any means necessary"
"Okay Mom…"
"Zoe's missing and we have a Secret Service agent dead with a bullet in her head"
Carole gasped. Ainsley covered her hands with her mouth. Amy went if possible even whiter. Donna who was still sat on her couch calming Josh down had eyes bigger than big in her face.
Jake stared at her for a second and then he nodded slowly as if his brain was trying to catch up with what had happened.
"Mom we don't have a VP" he said slowly.
"Point?"
"Nothing I just…we don't have a Vice President"
"Fuck" Amy muttered.
CJ agreed. Fucking Hoynes and his inability to keep it in his pants. You'd think that he'd have learnt by now…but then you'd think that she'd have learnt by now as well. Five years on and she still had not learnt from that mistake.
"Jake I need you to call your Dad. Right now that is the most important thing."
"I need to call Harrison too"
"Jake—"
"Mom" he said and she was stunned slightly by the force that came out of his voice.
"You got your guy I got mine" he said flatly and if her brain wasn't running a mile a minute for what this meant for her President, for her country and for that poor girl scared out of her mind right now—and she was choosing to believe that Zoe was alive until she was shown proof otherwise—she would have called him up on what that meant but he was already gone.
"CJ"
She turned.
"Donna"
"Josh is on his way back."
"Okay…let's…let's do what he says. Get everyone back. Ladies go now!"
They went and CJ breathed in leaning against the door frame.
"Do you think he was right?" Donna asked lingering a little. "That this is the end of the world as we know it?"
"I don't know" she said her eyes still closed. "But I think were about to find out"
And there we go! THE FINAL CHAPTER COMING AFTER THIS ONE!
