Day 25
Forget About the Blame
Camp
Men: Killua, Kyon
Women: Alice, Michiru
"Wow," is the first thing Kyon says as the players arrive back to camp.
"Somehow I think I've heard that before," Alice says.
"Well, mission accomplished," Michiru says.
She immediately falls in Alice's arms and begins to cry.
"Thank you so much!" she says. "Thank you for giving me a chance in this game! You are so amazing!"
"Yeah, yeah," Alice says. "I'm just a chef with a big brain."
"And a big heart!" Michiru cries. "Thank you so, so much!"
"I only kept Michiru around for strategic purposes," Alice says. "I know I can beat her at fire, just as I'd beat Konata by fire. But there's more than that. She's going to be easier to beat should we win this challenge and go to the Final Three. She has nothing to present to the jury, because she was only brought there as a goat. No one's going to vote for her on merit. Whereas Konata could have claimed she was calling the shots behind all of our BIG MOVES. Michiru's a goat, and she's either going to lose to me tonight in fire, or get very few votes at the Final Tribal Council."
But Killua doesn't see it that way.
"Alice made a big misstep keeping Michiru around," he says. "Michiru didn't offend anyone on that jury. She is very likable and affable. I think she stands a better shot than Konata at getting jury votes. But what do I know? I thought Alice would vote off Michiru, and instead she voted out Konata."
The next morning, Alice and Killua are the early birds once more.
"So, you went with Konata as your vote, over Michiru?" Killua says.
"That's right," Alice says.
"Well, if Michiru beats either one of us at the Final Three, you'll have that decision to blame."
"Forget about the blame," Alice replies. "I picked the one who I thought gave me a better chance to win this game."
"But Michiru is a bigger threat to us! She's got friends on that jury!"
"You forget," Alice says. "We are in a NEW ERA of Survivor. People aren't bitter on juries anymore. Everyone laughs and gets excited and has a good time. No one gets upset at each other anymore. It's all a big kumbaya moment. Happy faces all around, smiling, throwing kisses, busy making lazy sounds. And who knows, maybe Jet won't let one of the jury members talk, like Probst didn't let Bruce talk at the Final Tribal Council of Survivor 45."
"Oh, sure," Killua says. "You don't actually believe that, do you?"
Alice laughs. "Maybe, maybe not."
"You know, one of us is making it to the Final Three, whether we like it or not," Killua says.
"Hey, that's just like I'd like it," Alice says. "You go home tonight, and then you tell everyone to vote for me."
"And why would I do that?"
"Because we're best buddies, Albino!" Alice says, grabbing his arm. Killua simply blushes.
"Alice making this far is kind of good, but mostly bad," Killua says. "If she goes home tonight, then that's okay, but I would have preferred to go home earlier. I wanted her home around 6 or 7 that way she could have started prepping the jury to vote for me. As it is, she's going to have to rally the jury in a hurry tomorrow night. I just hope Michiru can beat her in fire."
Later that morning, Michiru meets with Alice, as she spends some time trying to make fire.
"Are you going to throw this challenge too?" she asks her.
"No way!" Alice replies. "I want Killua on that jury. I'm not going to give him a free spot in the Final Three, even if I believe I can beat you at fire."
"Okay," Michiru says. "I'm holding you to that, because you know that if I'm on the jury, I'll hold it against you if you do throw today's challenge."
"Nothing to worry about," Alice says. "In this case, I think we have to go all out. So no throwing the challenge!"
"I don't trust Alice," Michiru says. "But what can I do? I can't vote her out at this point. If she throws this challenge, I've got to beat her at fire. And maybe she'll want to lose today because that bolsters her reputation at the Final Tribal Council. In any case, I'm going to go all out, and see if that's enough to beat her."
Kyon is pretty much on his own all day, with no one talking to him as he practices making fire on his own.
"This is very lonely out here," he says. "It's not like I can vote anyone out; all I can do is win fire today should we lose the challenge. Everyone else is talking strategy, like it matters at this point. It doesn't. All that matters is winning. For the first time in Survivor history, two tribes are down to two people each, meaning the losing tribe will go to the Final 4 fire-making challenge."
Later that day, Killua meets up with Michiru.
"I need you to beat Alice in fire," he tells her. "I don't want to go up against her in the Final Three."
"I understand," Michiru says. "I'll try my best."
"I'm serious," Killua says. "If you don't beat her, then she's likely going to win this game over me, and no one wants that."
"Don't worry, I'll give it my best effort."
"Everyone is talking to me like I'm the ultimate goat," Michiru says. "And maybe I am. Everyone wants to go to the Final Three with me, presumably because they think they can beat me. I remember watching Haruka in Crazy All-Stars. She laid low for a while before making the BIG MOVES that won her the game. I haven't made any BIG MOVES, so maybe everyone expects me to not get any credit at the end. I don't know, I guess I'll just have to try to make it there so I can find out!"
"Michiru and Kyon are both easy goats," Killua says. "That means, should Alice or I go home, the million dollars is pretty much pre-determined. We've got to beat each other at this last challenge, or else we'll be going for a showdown at the Final Three with a goat. We've made all the BIG MOVES in this game, and I know that's all juries care about in the NEW ERA of Survivor."
Immunity Challenge
"Come on in, guys!"
The four remaining players walk into the immunity challenge area.
"The Final Four," Jet states, as the players take their spot on the map.
"It's a little quieter here now that Konata's gone," Killua says.
"It sure is," Jet replies. "First things first, I will take it back."
Killua hands over the Ranma immunity idol to Jet.
"Thank you. For the final time, immunity is back up for grabs. For today's challenge, forget about the Olympic sports; we're going with a Survivor classic: Simmotion. You will each have one hand tied behind your back. On my go, you will place a ball into a maze, where it will roll until it reaches the bottom, where it will come out of one of two tubes. Each time a ball goes down, it will come out the other tube. At regular intervals, you will have to place more balls into the maze, making it more difficult. At any time, if you drop a ball, you're out. This is ordinarily an individual challenge; today, it is a team challenge. There will still be four ball mazes; whichever tribe has at least one person to outlast the two on the other tribe will win immunity. Make sense?"
"Yep," Alice says.
"Last tribe with someone remaining, wins immunity, guaranteed two spots in the Final Three for the Final Tribal Council, where you will have the opportunity to plead your case as to why you should win this game. Losers, Tribal Council, where the two of you will compete in a fire-making challenge to decide who goes to the Final Three, and who comes up just short. Big stakes, and no benefit in throwing this challenge. I'll give you a minute to strategize, then we'll get started."
The players line up at their stations, with one hand tied behind their backs.
"For the biggest immunity of the season! Survivors ready? Go!"
Each player drops a ball, and the balls begin whirring down the tubes.
"You can hear those balls coming closer and closer, potentially causing your final doom!"
Kyon's ball comes down just a bit earlier than the others', and he quickly puts it back into the maze.
"Everyone doing really good so far!"
About five minutes go by, with the players fielding a ball every 45 seconds or so.
"All right, time to put another ball in. I'll count you in… five, four, three, two, one! Everyone is good!"
The players all continue to field balls, with each ball switching the direction of the one after it.
"Everyone doing a good job with just two balls, but we're about to make it harder!"
The players continue fielding balls, with everyone having a good rhythm at this point.
"We're about to put a third ball in. I'll count you in… five, four…"
As Kyon tries to put in his third ball, one of his other balls comes rolling down the end. He frantically reaches to try to stop it…
…
…
…
…
…
"Nice save by Kyon there!"
Kyon breathes a sigh of relief, while everyone is laser focused on the three balls now rolling in their mazes.
"This is as frightening as it gets!" Jet shouts. "You've got to have your eyes and your arm working in tandem well, and-"
As he is saying this, a ball rolls out of the maze and cannot be stopped by…
…
…
…
…
…
"Kyon! He misses, and he's out of this challenge! We are down to three! If Killua loses, the Women win immunity!"
The players continue frantically putting their balls into the maze.
"All right, we're about to add in a fourth ball! I'll count you in! Five, four, three-"
…
…
…
…
…
"Alice…"
…
…
…
…
…
"…makes the save! And everyone is good! Everyone's got four balls going through this maze!"
Alice looks over at Killua, who is laser focused. Suddenly…
…
…
…
…
…
"Alice…"
…
…
…
…
…
"…makes another nice save!"
As he is saying this, a different player is unable to get to their ball in time, and it drops down.
"Killua…"
…
…
…
…
"…makes a save! But Michiru drops! And we are down to a showdown between Killua and Alice!"
"Just as it should be," Killua says.
"This is our game to lose," Alice says.
The players keep up with their four balls for another five minutes, before Jet makes an announcement.
"All right, it's time to put in a fifth ball! I'll count you in. Five, four, three, two, one… everybody is good, and this challenge continues!"
Alice and Killua frantically try to keep up with the five balls zooming through their mazes. After about a minute of the two of them keeping up with five balls, one of them finally makes a mistake.
…
…
…
…
…
"Killua…"
…
…
…
…
…
"…drops his ball! And that's it! Women win final immunity! Alice and Michiru guaranteed spots in the Final Three!"
As one of the other balls rolls out, Killua grabs it, then spikes it to the ground in frustration. Alice rips the restraint off her other hand, then raises both arms in celebration. Michiru rushes over and hugs her.
"Congratulations, Women, come over here."
Michiru sends Alice over to Jet.
"You earned it, you deserve to hold it last," Michiru says.
"Thank you," Alice says. She grabs the Ramna immunity idol off Jet and holds it high in the air.
"Now, I would like to give this up…" Alice starts to say.
But before anyone can gasp, Alice finishes her sentence.
"…to Michiru, who's been through so much this past month," Alice says.
She hands the idol over to Michiru, who hugs it warmly.
"Thank you, Alice," Michiru says.
"Very well then," Jet says. "Women, you are safe from tonight's vote, and the two of you will go to the Final Three, where you will have the chance to plead your case at the Final Tribal Council to the jury. Men, I got nothing for you, but the grim news that you will be making fire against each other for the right to be in the Final Three. You can head on out; I'll see you tonight for Tribal."
Killua and Kyon shake their heads as they follow Michiru and Alice out of the immunity challenge area.
"I don't know if I have a chance to win this thing," Kyon says. "I can't seem to make fire no matter how hard I try. But stranger things have happened, so I guess I'll just see how it goes."
Camp
Men: Killua, Kyon
Women: Alice, Michiru
As soon as he comes back from the challenge, Kyon immediately goes to start practicing making fire.
"Does he have any chance?" Alice asks Killua. "Can he pull out a miracle like Ben did in Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers?"
"No Ben, no chance," Killua says. "Remember, I'm an assassin, even though I usually don't actually kill anyone. I know my survival skills; I can make fire at the drop of a dime. I know what I'm doing. If Kyon can't make fire quickly, he's going to be out."
"I'm fairly confident that I'm going to win this final fire-making challenge," Killua says. "However, you don't know until you actually do it. So, who knows? Maybe Kyon has something up his sleeve. I just don't think he has it in him to knock me out if it's all about making fire."
Kyon frustratedly keeps on trying to make fire, and keeps on failing.
"I just can't do this," he says. "I don't know how to make fire, and guess who's been making fire from Day 1? Killua. This is an awful time for this to come up. Maybe I should have practiced more at home before I came on this show. On a related note, I'm trying out for the Amazing Race, but I don't know how to drive a stick-shift car."
Meanwhile, Michiru and Alice revel in their good fortune.
"We made it!" Michiru says. "Congratulations!"
"Congratulations to you too!" Alice says. "You know, I never thought it'd be two people from opposing alliances here at the end with each other, but here we are."
"I know!" Michiru says. "My full goal was to be here with Ami. Once she got voted out, I bonded with Jasmine. But ultimately, both of them got sent home, and I somehow survived to get here. I know we're competing against each other, but I wish you lots of luck."
"Thanks," Alice says. "It's going to take a little bit of luck for either of us to win. We've got a slight disadvantage that there are two Women who could split votes at the Final Tribal Council."
"You're right," Michiru says. "Hopefully one of us two wins."
"I want to win this game, but I'm also realistic," Michiru says. "The fact of the matter is, Alice has played this game much harder than I have. If the jury is like one of those in the NEW ERA of Survivor, then she'll definitely win. However, if the jury is at all bitter, maybe a couple of them will vote against Alice."
"Michiru really has no chance at winning in this NEW ERA of Survivor," Alice says. "I've made all the BIG MOVES in this game; she hasn't. It should be an easy decision for them when it's time to choose the winner. I just hope I'm up against another feckless opponent in Kyon. If Killua's in the Final Three with us, then it's going to be a very contentious and difficult Tribal Council."
Killua, meanwhile, makes fire in about a minute as he is practicing.
"I'm ready for this challenge," Killua says. "I know that anything can happen, but I'm in a very good position now. My biggest problem is that Alice is waiting there for me at the Final Three. I was never able to cut her loose, and now, she's going to be my biggest obstacle to winning a million dollars."
Tribal Council
(Men)
Kyon and Killua bring their burning torches into the Tribal Council area and set them down in their spots. Killua waves to Alice and Michiru up in the peanut gallery. He and Kyon then take their seats across from Jet.
"We now bring in the members of our jury," Jet states. "Ami, Mine, Spike, Misty, Haruhi, Kirito, Joe, Jasmine, and voted out last Tribal Council, Konata."
The nine players on the jury march into the Tribal Council area and take their seats across from Killua and Kyon. Konata looks exceptionally pouty.
"All right," Jet says, sitting down. "Let's talk a little bit about today's immunity challenge. We played Simmotion, which is that famous game where players must keep dropping balls down a tubed maze, and keep them from falling out. It was played in teams, so that whichever tribe had all its members knocked out first would lose, and the other one would win immunity and two guaranteed spots in the Final Three. The winners were Alice and Michiru; the losers were Kyon and Killua."
Konata shakes her head from the jury.
"Killua and Kyon, you are here tonight to battle it out in a fire-making immunity challenge. The winner of this challenge goes to the Final Three along with Michiru and Alice. For the record, this is not a tribe merge; this will simply be the Final Three, so this season ends up never having a merge."
"I get it," Killua says.
"Sounds right," Kyon says.
"There's no reason to put it off; let's get to it," Jet says. "You each have a machete and flint, along with some straw and wood to build a fire. First one to burn through that rope and raise his flag, wins the challenge, goes to the Final Three. Loser is eliminated and becomes the tenth and final member of our jury. Make sense?"
"Yep," Killua says.
"Okay," Kyon says.
The two players take their positions behind their fire-making stations.
"For a spot in the Final Three!" Jet announces. "Survivors ready? Go!"
Both players begin slashing at the flint, with Kyon making some violent attempts at getting a spark. Killua get some sparks in the first 30 seconds, and by a minute in, he already has a flame.
"Killua with the early lead in this challenge!"
Killua starts putting some straw on top of it, but as he does, his flame goes out.
"Killua with a setback!"
Kyon continues slashing fiercely, trying to pick up some sparks. As he does, Killua gets a second flame, and he blows on it, trying to get it to stay warm.
"Killua has some sort of flame…"
…
…
…
"…but it goes out again! Kyon is still in this challenge!"
Kyon desperately tries to get some sort of flame. Killua gains a flame for the third time and starts blowing on it.
"Will the third time be the charm for Killua?"
…
…
…
…
…
"Killua's flame is growing!"
Killua begins putting straw on his fire, which continues to burn higher, while Kyon can't get anything but a few sparks.
"It looks like Killua's gonna win it!"
Killua begins placing wood on the fire, as it grows higher and bigger.
"Killua's got an all-out inferno going here! Kyon is still not getting anything!"
A minute later…
…
…
…
…
…
"Kyon has a flame going!"
…
…
…
…
…
"But it's too late!"
Killua's fire burns through the rope, and his flag goes up.
"And that's it! Killua is going to the Final Three!"
Killua raises both arms in triumph, while Kyon shakes his head in frustration. Haruhi and Konata chuckle from the jury bench.
"I almost got it," he says, pointing to a small flame underneath the straw.
"You made me work for it," Killua says. "Thanks for everything out here."
"Kyon, you need to bring me your torch," Jet says.
Kyon shakes hands with Killua, then goes over and grabs his torch. He then brings it before Jet.
"Kyon, the tribe has spoken," Jet says, snuffing out his torch. "It's time for you to go."
Kyon waves, then heads on out. Haruhi continues laughing at Kyon as he disappears down the path.
"Alice, Michiru, come on down here."
Alice and Michiru make their way down from the peanut gallery and join Killua.
"Congratulations, you three," Jet states. "You have made it as far as you can go in this game. Tomorrow night, you will have the chance to state your case to the jury why you should be the winner of this game and its one-million-dollar prize. Alice and Michiru, head out, and Killua, grab your torch, head back to camp, good night."
Killua walks out triumphantly along with Alice and Michiru, and the three laugh as they head off back to camp.
"I should have learned to make fire before going out for this game," Kyon says. "I screwed myself by not knowing how. Had Killua been a bit incompetent, I may have had a chance, because I finally did get something of a flame at the end there. But give him credit; he's really good. He deserved to win this one tonight. And now we get to vote on a winner. I can't wait; every second that goes by ticks just a bit closer to what should be a great Tribal Council."
In the final episode, Alice, Killua, and Michiru will face the 10-person jury and find out which one of them wins the title of Sole Survivor and the one-million-dollar prize that goes with it!
