Chapter 11
They each gasped as the monster grinned at them. Bakugou couldn't feel this was different than at the USJ. Those chumps were peons compared to the monster in front of them. He couldn't see where in his body formed where his attack would be most effective, if it was even there, and the concerning thought of whether or not his quirk wouldn't be snuffed out. Just like that smoke bastard he could see this trash's eyes. Anything has a weakness. The villain exhaled a heavy breath and they both instantly felt sick to their stomachs at the smell of rotten sewage. To Izuku it smelled like someone had died, or burnt, rotting flesh, and they were wasting away. A smell he hated being familiar with and almost gagged. His entire body started to shake as the ugly dark green muck was replaces was red blood that dripped off the tables pooling onto the floor.
"Perfect! Two for the price of one! Say if one of you plays the hero, I might let the other one go!" The sludge villain laughed loud as his boomed and bits of sludge flew off hitting them in the face.
"...play hero…sacrifice yourself for others…"
Bakugou growled in response and slowly pushed Izuku to stand behind him. Hearing his quickening breath Bakugou hoped that him being right beside him would help keep him calm. He doubted this moron was with the people who kidnapped Izuku, but who knows what kind of trash they would hire. Bottom of the barrel kind if they were desperate after the embarrassment that was the USJ.
"Back the fuck up!" Bakugou yelled as he popped his hands. This only made the villain laugh harder and louder.
"I like those with a little fire!" the villain started as Bakugou prepared himself to fight back.
This was fucking self-defense and he would be ready to square up. He was a student at UA. This fucker would be toast. He vowed to protect those who need saving by making sure he always won like a hero. He wouldn't allow Izuku to be snatched away again. He became stronger, better so this wouldn't happen anymore. He could protect those he had come to care about. He wouldn't know what he'd do with himself if Izuku ever disappeared again.
Bakugou realized too late as he watched in slow motion as the villain jumped.
The villain swung smacking the other away as the other…in that moment…his body moved on its own…
"KACCHAN!"
"IZUKU!"
Toshinori wasn't sure who scared him more at the moment. There weren't many people who did and he could count them all on one hand. However, Aizawa was in hot pursuit of taking the top spot. The man's glare held weight that carried through any threat he made. No one would find out especially if he was in the principal's corner. He'd have to tread carefully.
"Aizawa please. I need to speak with Young Midoriya for a moment."
"Absolutely not." Aizawa snapped instantly with a second wasted. "What exactly would you say to him? What do you need to say to him? That child has been through enough and doesn't need you making it worse."
"The boy's father–"
"Is a piece of shit." Aizawa finished. "He told me about him. I won't let that man come near him ever again."
"I agree with the sentiment, Aizawa, I really do. However, his father is a dangerous man that–"
"You apparently failed to beat."
Toshinori went wide-eyed for a moment. How did Aizawa know about that? Only a handful of people knew about his battle with All For One. Also would this man let him speak.
"Izuku told me. He just gave his statement. Don't look so bent about when he was with him when it happened. What happened affected him. Now, answer my question."
"His father is my greatest enemy. From what it sounds like he's still alive and perhaps Young Midoriya can–"
"He is not his father! And you will not use that child as bait to settle whatever score you have! The entire point of him being here, with me, is keeping him safely away from them. To protect him. Don't dig deeper into wounds that haven't even started to heal. You'd think the Number One Hero would prioritize saving a child than a villain."
Toshinori sighed knowing Aizawa had a point, but if his father was gone then a lot of people, including Izuku Midoriya, would be safe.
"Aizawa. I understand the sins of the father do not fall onto the son. I can see the boy is bright with a brilliant future ahead of him. However, that man is a very dangerous villain who has terrorized others for centuries. I only wish to ask Young Midoriya if he has any insight on where his father could be located. He needs to be handled as soon as possible. The base that you discovered has been emptied. No sign that villains were even there."
Aizawa bit his lip. Toshinori had made fair points he'd jump onto in a second. Izuku's father, whoever he was, needed to be dealt with so Izuku could finally move on and be safe without having to look over his shoulder. That wasn't a good life for anyone, let alone Izuku, to live. The constant fear would be his shadow and he could already see Izuku worried about when it was going to show itself and grab him. However, as a rational pro he understood that without any aid it'd be a wild goose chase all over Japan. That was even if the man was in Japan. Plus the longer they waited the more impatient they could grow their forces and come take Izuku back by any means necessary.
"Give it some time All Might. Izuku has been through a lot and not to mention he doesn't even know who you are. When the time comes I'll ask him. He starting to trust me and I don't want to break that." Aizawa said walking out not wanting to know what his response would have been. He wouldn't accept another answer than agreement.
"That's the problem Aizawa. I'm running out of time." Toshinori said as he looked on solemnly as he watched the man walk away.
Since the attack on the USJ, Toshinori's time limit had decreased due to his injuries. The time he could hold his form as the number one hero had been cut quite a lot. The time he needed to fulfill the duty of the Symbol of Peace, the eighth wielder of One For All. A powerful quirk passed down generation to generation with the purpose of defeating All For One. Did Young Midoriya know about One For All? He assumed not because the boy hadn't recognized him earlier.
Toshinori took that power and made his own, creating a symbol that gave everyone hope and struck fear into villains. Villains like All For One who wanted his hands on such quirk and Toshinori needed to defeat him before his time was over. He wouldn't put this burden on his successor. Whichever worthy soul it would be. Only after that menace was gone he'd pass along the quirk knowing they take the power and reinvent it for a greater, more peaceful, purpose.
Therein lies the problem…he didn't have a successor yet. His former sidekick recommended a third year that was currently enrolled at UA, but upon meeting the boy Toshinori saw too much of himself to a degree it was almost frightening. Physically and mentally. And with this knowledge of All For One's return then passing it onto him now would be suicide. The boy would foolheartedly go into battle blinded by the responsibility entrusted to him with nothing more than a bright smile. Again, this was not his burden to defeat this man; it belonged to the wielder of One For All.
Aizawa said he needed trust and he could do that. Talking to the boy as All Might wouldn't do as Toshinori could see the admiration the boy had. It made him chuckle that his enemy's son was one of his biggest fans. Then perhaps Toshinori Yagi, All Might, could find a way to defeat this evil and they could both live in peace. For now, he'd get to know Young Midoriya. All The son of All For One; the boy who sparked this old man's soul.
Izuku ran through the street as fast as he could. He needed to find help. He had to help because just like everything else, this was all his fault. If only he hadn't stood there completely useless. He ignored the pain in his head from smacking into the wall and where Kacchan had pushed him out of the way. Thankfully the wind getting the wind knocked out of him helped clear his head of the day nightmares. He could handle a little pain and had experienced much worse before as he chased after the sludge villain who had taken Kacchan hostage.
Even if he lost sight of them Izuku could see where they went as the villain kept firing off Kacchan's quirk that caused fires and smoke in their wake. He wanted to cause destruction and chaos. He didn't care who got hurt of what happened. Quickly digging into his pocket he grabbed his phone dialing the first number listed. The caller picked up after the first ring.
"Izuku, I'm in a meeting, is something wrong?" Shouta asked. Izuku could hear the slight concern in his voice. If it had been any other time than this he would have been touched knowing how much Shouta really did care.
"Kacchan and I were attacked by a villain on the way back! He's at–" Izuku was interrupted by a loud explosion that occurred in the plaza up ahead. In the panic Izuku dropped his phone.
"Izuku!" Shouta's voice came over the line in a panic. "Izuku!"
"Let me go!" Bakugou screamed as a giant explosion shook the area, only adding more fire to the flames.
The entire area was in flames that seemingly stretched for blocks. Police and a couple other heroes had already arrived on the scene. Izuku watched on as those pros were useless against the thick substance the villain was made out of as their attempts in saving Kacchan were futile as they were easily pushed aside like he had been. People stood there and watched. From where he was at Izuku could only see their heads and mouths move, probably questioning the horrific scene before them.
What both groups shared in common was that they were all just standing around as Izuku saw Kacchan's struggle to escape and his eyes water with pleas of help. It had been almost six years since Izuku had seen the look of fear petrify Kacchan's normal fiery eyes. His red met Izuku's green. Although Izuku couldn't understand, he knew Kacchan was screaming at him not to be an idiot. Izuku's hand slowly rose to his mouth as his breath shook. No. Kacchan was going to…
"Kacchan!"
And in the moment…Izuku dropped everything he had and ran out of the alleyway toward the monster who had captured his best friend. He didn't even think, he only cared about saving Kacchan for real this time. He lived in the agony that he failed last time and Izuku didn't want that to come true. Kacchan got hurt, in trouble with villain, because of him before, but not again!
"Not this brat!" the villain snarled and swiped.
Izuku raised his hand and fired off his quirk blasting away the hand made of sludge. Bits of the guy spewed around as the villain yelled. His hand screamed at him for using his quirk, but he didn't care as he dug his other one into his face and blasted again. The villain's face erupted, freeing Bakugou's who gasped for air. As soon as he got through he dropped his quirk.
"What the?! You brat! I should have disposed of you!"
The villain thought this kid had an exploding quirk. Why was this brat using the same quirk? Initially he wanted both of them, but this one who struggled in his murky, musty body got in the way. He didn't have time to bother with the smaller one and now he was rethinking that he should have. This one was a pain and if the smaller kid was just as powerful he'd be much easier to control! No matter, he'd crush and drown this runt for getting in his way.
Hearing the declaration Bakugou growled and put all he could muster in his hands. His hands exploded causing even more sludge to implode, freeing them. Now the villain had been weakened, Bakugou used all the strength he had and yanked his arm out.
"K-kacchan, your h-hand." Izuku coughed as the thick smoke started to burn his lungs.
Taking the hint Bakugou reached out to Izuku who whipped his head toward the middle of the two buildings. It should have been long enough by now. Izuku pushed his quirk to activate as he grabbed his best friend's hand. Looking forward, Izuku saw a safe distance and like with Shouta, they were gone.
"I AM HERE!"
All Might dropped down from above blasting the sludge villain into the ground with one solid punch. Sludge splattered everywhere coating the walls and windows around the plaza. He then punched up into the air as a tornado formed by the wind pressure that whipped up collecting it all in one mass before slamming the monster back into the crater he had initially created. All Might stood on top of him with a fist raised as the crowd roared and cheered. All while Izuku and Bakugou were safely in the arms of Eraserhead who had found them in the alleyway.
Shouta felt his heart sink when he saw Izuku was calling him. Izuku knew that he would be in a meeting and thus would only call if it were an emergency. He was only supposed to text him when they arrived back at the apartment. Ironically this meeting was about him, not that he'd tell the boy that. He hoped they'd be fine just walking back to the apartment. It wasn't that far. All he wanted was to give Izuku something more normal than being watched over twenty-four seven. Nezu said he could answer it and put it on speaker just in case they needed to mobilize and save the boy. An attempt wouldn't be too terribly surprising. However, hearing they had been attacked by a villain and then losing contact made his heart stop. And it didn't help he saw it on the news stations as they ran. All Might had gone ahead and leaped into action to get faster than they would just on two feet. Shouta wouldn't be thankful then passing by and seeing the boys coughing as they clung to each other. Immediately they returned to UA to make sure they were okay and grab statements.
"Well despite their lungs might be a little sore, minor aches and bruises, they'll be fine with some rest. Izuku's temperature is slightly elevated, which is to be expected. If anything changes please come back." Chiyo said as she finished her check up on the boys who were resting on the beds. "Despite that, I do have good news."
"Huh?" Everyone questioned.
"Izuku dear, it's been a little over a week since we've got you and I've seen good in your results in such a short time. You're looking much healthier and even managed to put on a few pounds."
"Fucking course." Bakugou grumbled as his face was planted into the pillow. He made sure that nerd ate and made sure hobo followed everything to the letter.
"Does that mean?" Shouta asked.
"Yes. If the boy wants he can start working on physical therapy and even start training that quirk of his." Chiyo affirmed before quickly adding louder, "At a slow pace! I don't want to see him in here because he overdid it!"
"Speaking of quirk, you didn't try my quirk?" Shouta asked.
"I honestly didn't think it would work. You mentioned it doesn't work on mutants so I didn't want to waste time or energy if it didn't. Just because I know how it works doesn't mean I know everything about it. It's like a four year old getting it for the first time. I'm sorry. I know quirk usage is illegal." Izuku explained as he sat up. "Um…the news didn't catch me, did they? I'm sorry I just…"
"Apparently the boy that had been captured by the villain disappeared in 'blink of an eye' right before All Might showed up. One second he was there and the next he was gone. Since he's a UA student we have to release a statement. All we're going to say was two students were attacked and they are unharmed and any quirk usage was in self defense. They have to follow the same guidelines like a non-disclosure and most of the news places know that UA will come at them with full force if they try anything." Shouta explained.
"Okay." Izuku said as he nodded and breathed in relief. That was good. He didn't think about it until later, but the news might have shown his face on television. He was trying to avoid being found again and apparently he was doing a swell of a job at that.
"Izuku, what does that quirk actually do?" Shouta asked. During the recording the kid got quiet and he wasn't able to hear what he said. Aizawa didn't have the heart to make him resay something and they could do clarifying questions later.
"Blink is that first person's quirk." He said and Shouta nodded understanding. The only quirk Izuku got from the people who were all kidnapped and tortured in front of him. "It allows me to instantly transport to any location as long as I can see it in plain sight. You know, in a blink of an eye. I learned later that as long as I'm touching something it goes with me."
"And the dizziness?" Shouta nodded understanding.
"A side effect. It doesn't affect me too much now, but–"
"Sure as hell makes you feel like you're gonna fucking puke!" Bakugou yelled from his bed beside Izuku's.
Izuku laughed. "Yeah. Pretty much."
Shouta shared the sentiment also having experienced the quirk in action. Sure as hell was handy in escapes of needing to get somewhere close fast. Shouta meant every word he wrote to Izuku in his notebook. Even if the kid was quirkless, he'd still be a hero with head on his shoulders. The kid could do anything he wanted if figured what tools were needed where.
"And you still think that you can't be a hero?" Bakugou asked, getting up and coming to stand beside him.
"Not yet." Izuku answered without hesitation. "I was just fixing the mistake I made. I'm sorry Kacchan. Because me, you got caught."
He couldn't 'play hero' when all it ended up as someone having to save him in the end. Ended where someone died. Where he was the one who caused the scenario that required a hero in the first place.
"Because I wouldn't let that happen to you damn it!" Bakugou yelled. "He could have killed you!"
"And I wasn't going to let that happen to you again!" Izuku yelled back. "I just got you back, for real, and I can't lose you, any of you."
Bakugou went quiet as did the entire room. Izuku thought he was dead for years clinging only to his quirk as a comfort then thought he hated him. Bakugou couldn't let Izuku follow that path again. It'd break him. He didn't want to fight with Izuku. He couldn't let his anger do the talking or it would make everything worse.
"Let's just agree to watch out for one another okay. I'm still not accepting that your nerdy, stubborn ass doesn't want to be a hero, but at least we'll be there for each other." Bakugou said.
"Kacchan!" Izuku cried as he jumped and hugged him. Bakugou only nodded to himself and hugged the nerd back. He was right when he thought if he ever lost Izuku he wouldn't know what to do with himself.
He didn't want to make this a recurring thing, but Toshinori listened in to their conversations hearing how each of them fought to save one another. He was about to introduce himself to Izuku as the number one hero, but this moment wasn't the time. There was plenty of time to do so now that the boys were safe. Instead he walked away with a thought.
"There are stories about every hero. How they became great. Most have one thing in common. Their bodies moved before they had a chance to think. Almost on their own. Those are the heroes who end up saving more than just the day."
Toshinori knew the heart of a hero when he saw one. Like his master once said, you just know. And although Izuku Midoriya didn't want to be a hero, he already was one. He just wasn't ready yet and that would be okay.
Izuku woke up bound. Something wrapped around his body holding him in place. Looking at his body the normal straps had been replaced with what looked like Shouta's capture scarf. Izuku felt each time he struggled the cloth only got tighter, cutting off circulation. Being held down wasn't new, but the fact Izuku could see puzzled him. For some reason his eyes were uncovered for some reason. They never left his eyes open. He was a flight risk after learning how to use Blink. He was back there again. They dragged him back, having not tortured him enough. Izuku refused to believe it. Was that all a pleasant dream that teased, taunted him with something he wouldn't ever have. He had to escape. He could do that now. He proved he could. He just needed to use his quirk. A quirk he accepted. But, his quirk wouldn't answer his call either. It felt like it wasn't even there. Looking forward he saw a pair of red, glowing eyes staring directly at him with a cold, blank, dead stare.
"Why Izuku?"
Izuku sucked in a breath. No. It couldn't be. He should be safe. He got him out.
"S-Shouta…" Izuku stuttered.
"It's Eraserhead."
Izuku's only response was to sob. The tears dropped off his face and in his blurred vision it looked like blood that splattered. He thought Shouta…Aizawa…Eraserhead trusted him. He said everything would be okay.
"You're always crying. Grow up."
Although it was Sho-Aiza-Eraser saying it, the words sounded so much like his father. The man hated when he cried. Said it reminded him too much of his mother.
"You did this Izuku. You led them to me. You learned how to use my quirk. You cannot escape and you're the reason I'm going to die."
"Noo!" Izuku screamed as the lights flashed and his body lurched.
.
.
"...ZUKU!"
.
"Izuku wake up!" Shouta yelled as he flipped on the light and ran to the boy who came to find kicking and screaming as he was trapped in his blankets and capture-weapon that usually lay beside him. Calling for it the cloth unraveled itself and looped around his neck.
He had been just about to turn in for the night when he heard it. At first it sounded like a small whimper, but then Izuku was screaming the next moment. Fearing someone had broken in, a part of him was relieved to find it only a nightmare.
"I'm sorry! I didn't want this!" Izuku cried.
"Izuku!" Shouta screamed and finally Izuku's panicked green eyes snapped open. Frantically he looked around seeing Shouta holding him and he was no longer in that…room, but the room he used in Shouta's apartment. Poster of pro heroes and books lining shelves all stared at him. Signs of love and comfort all gazed upon him in concern. Realizing that it was a dream and it finally sinking in, Izuku let out a wail as he sobbed. He was breathing and sobbing so hard that Shouta couldn't understand him as the kid tried to explain.
"Y-you w-were in the r-room a-and it was m-my f-f-fault."
"Shh." Shouta soothed as he hugged Izuku's head to his chest. "I'm not going anywhere, I promise. It's okay. It's just a nightmare probably induced by all the stress today. You're out now."
Izuku still cried as Shouta gently caressed his back in a soothing up and down motion while his other hand played his curls.
"Y-you s-said–"
"Never will I say what's happened or will happen to me is your fault. Please remember Izuku, you are strong. You held out for so long and when it came time you were the real hero. You might not want to be one, but that doesn't change the fact you are one in the eyes of so many people. Sometimes even heroes need saving. It'll all get better and I want to be here for you." Shouta said.
"T-thank you." Izuku said as he allowed Shouta to hold him as they laid together.
Izuku continued to cry as Shouta held him. After a little bit a soft breathing and snores came from the child that laid in his arms. The child that had found a place in his heart. The kid did so without even trying as when first learning about Izuku from Bakugou he wanted to meet him. The kid was intelligent, clearly thought on his feet, and took everything into consideration to make sure he didn't miss anything. But, he was also kind and he fully saw that after rescuing him. He didn't want to worry others and just wanted to see others safe. Even if that was at the expense of his own safety. This kid had been through so much and was still wanting to find a place wherever that may be. Tomorrow Izuku started his sessions with Hound Dog after lunch. The counselor and pro hero had almost lost himself when he heard Izuku's statement. Aizawa was sure he later took out his frustrations on a gym dummy that he heard got torn to shreds. When the school's counselor was talking again he only mentioned to Aizawa they would probably go over breathing exercises and the like. They wouldn't touch the heavy weighted trauma yet unless Izuku was ready. Izuku was probably going to be mentally drained, but Shouta had thought the perfect pick-me-up. He figured sitting in on and watching the others train for the Sports Festival would brighten his day. The kid would have a ball then and Shouta couldn't wait to hear all about it when they got home. Home. With that thought, Shouta also drifted off to sleep holding his kid in his arms in a peaceful slumber until dawn broke.
Katsuki got home late that night and hoped the old hag and the old man didn't watch the news. He'd prefer to tell them himself that he had gotten attacked by a villain when he walked with a friend home before the press release. They already knew he'd be late as he said they were studying until his guardian got home. Aizawa agreed with the choice as a way to keep Izuku's name out. A friend that his parents had no clue was Izuku. He'd just be a friend who was in class that he was never inviting over because no one wanted to meet a pair of old people.
Opening the door it all seemed normal as the aroma of dinner scented the air and he heard a voice talking in the other room. Probably talking with a client. As much as Katsuki didn't want to tell them anything they would freak out if not. One step in the living room proved fatal as he was met with a blonde haired and fair skinned hag with a spoon in her hand.
"Bakugou Katsuki. Explain yourself right this fucking minute." Mitsuki said in a dead serious tone. Her own matching red eyes met his and it looked like she had been crying and looked like she was going to tear up again. "D-did I see Izuku?"
Well fuck.
AN: Uh oh. Somebody found out.
So there was actually an alternate scene in the original where Izuku was the one grabbed and not Bakugou, but I cut it because it made more sense for the direction we're going toward.
Blink is a totally made up quirk for this which is literally me driving looking at what's ahead and thinking I could be there in a blink of eye or a second.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed the chapter and will stay tuned for the next! Please feel free to review, favorite, and/or follow in the meantime! Thanks and see ya!
