Hermione POV:

Hermione noticed throughout the week that the idiots, the idiots being Black, Potter, Lupin, and Pettigrew, were avoiding her. They sat in the opposite corner of her, they would quickly scramble away whenever they saw her, and they didn't bother her at all. She figured it was because of the pixie situation and they figured that she knew it was them, not that it was hard with the way they were acting. Her brother tried to talk to her throughout the week, but she did her best to avoid him- she didn't want to have another conversation about who caused the problem with the pixies and listen to his worrying. Suddenly she fell to the ground, she looked up and rolled her eyes when she saw who it was.

"You know Black, it would seem that your family has a bit of an obsession with knocking me over." she commented to the boy, who was currently scrambling to pick up the items from his fallen bag.

"I.. uh.. Yeah, I guess.. Um.. okay bye!" he stammered, before quickly leaving.

Hermione stared at his retreating form before rolling her eyes and muttering under her breath, something about uncultured swines.

Marauders POV:

Gryffindor Common Room

Black, Potter, Lupin, and Pettigrew, all avoided the curly haired Ravenclaw. Not that they would admit that they were scared, but they were scared of any retaliation, especially since her brother was a Slytherin, and a reputable one at that. They waited the rest of the week for any retaliation, but saw that nothing happened, which worried them even more.

"WE'RE SAFE! WE'RE SAFE!" exclaimed a jubilant Sirius Black to his three friends.

"What do you mean Sirius?" Remus asked.

"What I mean is that I just bumped into Dagworth-Granger,"

"Again?," snorted James, ignoring Sirius' glare.

"Anyways I bumped into her and all she did was make fun of me."

"How does that mean we're safe?" Peter asked.

"Oh my dear innocent Peter, it means that if she didn't comment on the pixie problem then she doesn't know that it's us that did it." he said patted Peter in the back.

"But what about the conversation we heard?"

Sirius waved him off, "She probably thought it was someone else"

"So are you going to keep annoying her or keep avoiding her?" James asked.

"First of all, I am not annoying her, I am merely trying to converse with her to become closer… acquaintances." he said, sticking his nose in the air.

Remus gave him a look, "I don't think she wants to be… acquaintances."

Sirius looked at him in disbelief, "Of course she wants to be... acquaintances, who wouldn't want to be… acquaintances… with me."

"Stop with all the acquaintances' nonsense, is it really that hard to say friends." James said, running his hand through his hair.

"Fine, besides why wouldn't she want to be friends with me, I have been nothing but polite to her."

James and Peter snorted and were about to laugh, if not for the glare Sirius gave them.

"Sirius, your mother knocked her over and insulted her, you knocked her over without as much as an apology, you kept bothering her in class when she clearly didn't want to speak to you, you insulted her friend, you pulled the pixie prank on her, and you knocked her over again and I doubt you apologized… again, all in the first week of school."

"We all were a part of the pixie prank, Remus, and the only reason we pulled it was because she got us in trouble."

"Because you kept bothering her and she insulted your huge ego" he pointed out.

I… I do not have a huge ego," Sirius spluttered.

"Sorry mate, but I have to agree with Remus, you do have a huge ego." James finally spoke.

"Sirius gasped and clutched his chest, "Betrayed… betrayed by my closest friends and trusted confidants- agreeing with the enemy."

Remus rolled his eyes while Peter giggled at Sirius' antics.

"Also, why would she choose… Snivellus.." he sneered, "as her friend.

"I don't know mate," James commented before swinging himself over the couch, "She's a strange girl."

"No more strange than Evans," Sirius said.

"Evans and Dagworth-Granger would be good friends," Peter finally spoke.

"Well we better hope that they never do, the amount of detentions we would have." he said laying on the couch next to James.

Sirius quickly sat up, "Oh Merlin! James! We have detention with McGonagall!"

Sirius and James quickly raced from the common room, leaving Remus and Peter by themselves.

"Wizards Chess?" Peter asked.

"Why not?" Remus shrugged, as they set up the game.

Remus:

The next few weeks went back to normal, normal being Sirius bothering Hermione until she hexed him, pulling pranks (mainly on Snape), getting detention (mainly from McGonagall), and constant yelling from Lilly (about the pranks on Snape). Remus was sitting in the library when noticed that someone sat across from him, he looked up and saw Hermione.

"Dagworth-Granger," he acknowledged.

"Lupin."

She then pulled a large book out of her bag and began reading.

Remus went back to his work, but glanced every few minutes at her bowed head.

"What?" a voice said, interrupting his thoughts.

"Uh.. what?" he said looking at the curly haired girl.

"You keep looking at me." she said curtly.

"Well… I… uh… just want to apologize on behalf of Sirius for keeping on bothering you."

"You want to apologize, get him to leave me alone." she snapped, "He's like a pestering sore that won't go away."

With that, she packed her stuff and walked away, just as Sirius, James, and Peter all showed up.

"Wait up, Dagworth-Granger!" Sirius called out, earning himself a glare from Madam Pince.

Before he could chase after her, James grabbed his arm and shoved him into a seat.

"Hey! She has just started warming up to me."

"That's not what she said 30 seconds ago." Remus commented.

"She talked about me! What did she say!" he said with a happy expression on his face.

"She called you a pestering sore that wouldn't go away." he smirked.

Peter laughed, which also earned him a glare from Madam Pince.

"See! Improvement! Just yesterday she compared me to my mother!" he shuddered.

"What's so bad about your mother?" Peter asked.

All three boys looked at him.

"Seriously Peter, where have you been when he complains about his mother at least once a day." James said.

"Anyways, Sirius, I think you should really stop bothering her, she'll probably like you better if you leave her alone." said Remus, turning to Sirius.

"She likes me!"

Remus groaned and put his head into his hands.

James whispered to Peter, "He's a lost cause." Peter smirked as Sirius went on about how he was an amazing person and she would be lucky to be his friend.

"OUT NOW!" yelled Madam Pince.

The boys grabbed Remus' stuff and ran out before they had to face her wrath.

Hermione POV:

October 31, 1971

Hermione was walking to her dorm when someone grabbed her and pulled her into a classroom.

"HEY!" she yelled, turning around to point her wand at her kidnapper.

"Hello Hermione."

"Uh… hello my favorite brother." she said embarrassed.

"If I'm your favorite brother then do you care to tell me why you have been avoiding me." Alexander said, crossing his arms.

"I have not been avoiding you, I have just been busy with homework."

She copied her brother's pose.

He snorted, "You, busy with homework?! I doubt that! Also every time I try to talk to you, you see me and run away. Not walk, run. You don't even pretend to not see me."

"What do you want?" she narrowed her eyes.

"Hermione, are you alright? You've been acting differently ever since you started Hogwarts, you're avoiding me, you seem annoyed all the time, what's wrong?" Alexander asked worriedly.

"I'm fine Alex. Just leave me alone, we are in separate houses and in different grades, there's no reason to go out of your way to talk to me." she snapped.

Hermione turned around and walked away, aware of the pair of brown eyes watching her.

In all honesty, Hermione was not fine. Hogwarts was very different from the life she was used to and she felt overwhelmed. She didn't have any friends growing up and lived her life with her nose in a different book everyday. It was a miracle she made any friends so far, the only people she talked to were her brother, Severus, Mary, and a few teachers; she tried to avoid any conversation with Black and preferred hexing him to shut him up. He was another problem entirely, while the other students had given up on any conversation with her, he decided to make it his personal project to annoy her to no end. He wasn't helping with the new change either and made her miss the quietness of her old life. Before Hogwarts, Hermione taught herself, rather than have private tutors; her father had been hesitant at first, but he realized that she was a very diligent student and had no need for any tutors. Her father was usually working on his potions or attending events for Most Extraordinary Society for Potioneers, so he was not around much. While he was still involved in a huge part of her life and was very protective of her, it was hard for him to raise Hermione without her mother, fortunately, she was a very quiet and introverted child and did not ask for much. Alexander was 4 years older than her, so they weren't close growing up, but after their mother's death, he had become very protective of her and attempted to create a stronger relationship, which proved to be difficult since he was very extroverted and she was the exact opposite; Hermione came out of her shell a bit after being influenced by Alexander, but he soon left for Hogwarts, leaving Hermione to retreat back into her shell into comfortable and quiet routine.

"Hermione!"

Hermione shook herself from her thoughts and looked up to the smiling face of Mary.

"Hello Mary." she said, smiling at the girl.

"Are you going to the quidditch match tomorrow?" the blonde girl asked, falling in step with Hermione.

"Probably not."
"Why not?! It's the first match of the season, Slytherin vs Gryffindor! Isn't your brother on the team?"

Hermione nodded, "Well we aren't exactly close right now." she said carefully.

Mary waved her off, "So?! At least be there for support, if not for your brother, for Severus."

"Severus isn't on the team."

"I know but he wants to go, but he doesn't have any friends in Slytherin and I know he doesn't want to sit by himself."

Hermione had introduced Mary to Severus, and while at first Severus was apprehensive, he eventually warmed up to her and often joined them on their library study sessions.

"What about Evans?"

Mary snorted, "As if he would sit with the Gryffindors."

Hermione smiled at the thought of him dressed head to toe in Gryffindor colors.

"Oh, all right. I'll go… but only for Severus."

"Yes! Now do you think you can help me with the charms homework?" she asked slyly.

"Of course Mary. Let's go to the library."

The two girls walked off chatting the whole way to the library, smiling and laughing as they went.
