Hey Guys, Crescent Rider here and I welcome you to my Walking Dead Fanfic. But before you all begin there are some things I need to tell you all first.
This isn't new. it's a rework as I've decided to make something new rather than stick to the old plot of The Walking Dead. Of course, I plan to have my character converge with the main cast of The Walking Dead soon so don't worry.
In the meantime, enjoy the rework of the story!
Disclaimer: I don't own The Walking Dead, just my OC Character
The Apocalypse had come, and the Dead outnumbered the living. The Governments of the Whole World were no more, and the Military had ceased to operate in both extermination and relief efforts for the people.
All that mattered now was survival; not even the living could be trusted in a world as chaotic as this one...
Suburbs, Georgia
With the streets littered with walking corpses, a teenage boy in his late teens is seen sneaking his way around the dead and avoiding them. He only wore a dark brown shirt, a spring-green hunting vest, jogging trousers, and a pair of sneakers.
He also has a leather knife sheath strapped onto his right side and a small sack bag containing a small amount of supplies he scavenged from nearby houses. To minimize the sound, he ensured they were organized properly and minimized the motion that may cause the sack to shake on his back.
After that, he arrives at the back of a suburban house and carefully puts down the sack. Then, he went to the side of the house and carried a wooden ladder to an open window. With the sack strapped to his back, he'd climb the ladder up to the open ladder and toss the sack in before entering the room himself.
He then brought the ladder inside and left the lower half elevated by the window. He then left the room he entered and went inside to another.
On a single bed, a young girl was wearing a blue shirt, long light brown trousers, and a small teddy bear in her arms.
She was fast asleep but often whimpered whenever she felt uncomfortable. But the boy would bend down a knee and gently caress her hair as a gesture of comfort. When she stopped whimpering, he just sighed. sat against the wall, and sighed after a long day's worth of work.
Though he would recount the event when he found the girl in the forest...
Flashback
As he went to the forest to check on his traps, he'd find disappointment as they came up empty.
But just as he went to check the last trap, he heard a noise, and his first instinct was to hide behind a tree and wait for the dead to pass.
Upon seconds of hiding, the noise he started to hear was rustling leaves and a girl's whimper as if she was running away from something.
Since it was coming right at him, he suddenly readied himself with arms stretched open and proceeded to catch the girl after she got close to his area. She struggled as this sudden, but with a hand on her mouth, he shushed her and hid behind the tree that was a few meters away from the area he initially hid in.
Moments later, there were a few walking corpses passing by the area, and the boy made sure that she wouldn't make a sound. But as more passed through the area, he deemed this place a hazard and planned to leave.
But first, he had to calm the girl in his arms, "We're leaving this place. Stay quiet, and you'll live, okay?"
The girl seemed hesitant but some got the message as he pulled his hands off her mouth, grabbed her by the wrist, and brought her back to his hideout before the dead could find them.
Present
After their encounter, the girl was brought to a comfortable bed and slept with teary eyes while the boy remained by her side at all times. He also got some information out of her, such as a name and origin.
She was Sophia Peletier, and she was part of a small group of survivors from Atlanta. The reason for her separation was because of the dead passing by the highway road, and one of them managed to spot her from her hiding place.
She mentioned a man named Rick and said that she should hide by the creek while he goes and lured them away from her. What caused her to run from her hiding place was a deadhead that strayed from its herd and chased after her.
If it weren't for him, she would have found herself lost or dead in the forest after those things caught her something he doesn't want to think about.
*Cans Rattling*
"Shit," The boy muttered and went to pick up a spear he made out of a broomstick, a sharpened kitchen knife, and some rope.
He'd quietly close the door then slowly make his way to the stairs railing and wait for a deadhead to walk by the stairs. Once he saw it, he waited for a good angle as it walked its way up the steps.
But as soon as it tripped from a single misstep, that's when the boy struck its head and firmly pulled the knife out of its head after it died.
Once killed, take a few steps away from the railing and stand down while his makeshift spear it placed to the side. Even if that deadhead reached the top, it would make it far considering that he blocked the way with a large cabinet and sofa.
With a bloodstained knife, he goes to the bathroom and uses a small bottle of water to wash off the blood from the tub's drain. What comes next is him using a rag to wipe the blade clean then going back to the room to either check on Sophia or rest for a little while.
The Following Afternoon
Sophia was awake and the boy offered a small bowl of food that he had prepared for her. As soon as they chowed down on today's meal, questions were asked from Sophia's side, "Um... Hey, Mister? Can you tell me where we are right now? I want to find my mommy before she gets worried about me,"
"Don't call me, mister, kid. Call me Jackson, or Jak for short," The boy stated, "Since you told me your name, it's only fair I tell you mine. As for where we are, we're currently in a suburban home that I've converted into a hideout. So you should be safe here for now,"
"O-Okay..." Sophia timidly replied,
"Now it's my turn to ask, what's your mother's name? If I get the chance to run into her, I can tell that you're doing just fine with me," Jackson asked,
"My Mommy's name is Carol," Sophia said, then she looked rather sad with her head down, "But I think Mommy will be worried while I'm gone,"
"Of course, she would," Jackson said, "Most mothers would naturally feel that way when separated from their child. And if my hunch is correct, she'd worrying about you, right this moment,"
Sophia seemed to smile at his words, but then they heard the cans rattling and alarmed the two. Though Jackson seems quite irritated by it, "Great..."
"What was that?" Sophia worryingly asked,
"One of those deadheads just wandered inside the house again," Jackson said as he dropped his bowl on the floor and stood up,
"You mean a walker is inside the house?" Sophia asked with fear in her tone,
"Yeah, something like that," Jackson summarized, "But let's not talk about that for now. For there's something I want you to do first,"
"What is it?" Sophia asked,
"When I close this door, I want you to use that chair and lock yourself in. Don't make a sound or open it for any reason unless you hear the rhythm of a door knocking," Jackson instructed, "If it's not me, hide beneath the bed. I'll come back for you,"
"Wait!" Sophia exclaimed and grabbed Jackson by the wrist, "Please, Don't leave me, Please..."
Jackson would only look into her frightened eyes and realize that this girl is afraid to be left alone. When recalling their first encounter, it wouldn't surprise him to see her act this way.
Convincing her to stay was out of the question and bringing her along is a risk for both her and himself. He then recalls the times he made several hard decisions, and recounts the number of people involved in those decisions.
Even after he left them, he never seemed to forget their names and faces. Including a single parent with a sick child...
As he groaned, he turned to Sophia, "Alright, fine. You can come, but stay quiet and close to me, okay? Do that, and you'll be fine, okay?"
Sophia shakingly nodded, and then he continued as he grabbed his makeshift spear, "Alright, now stay low and close to me,"
With Sophia following him, they'd make their way by the railings of the start and waited for the next walker to come upstairs. As he was about to strike, he soon noticed not one but three walkers making their way up the stairs.
One of them even noticed them and they immediately backed off as its rotten nails reached them.
Jackson grunted in disdain, then made his way to the front of the barricade. That's when he saw not three, but six walkers coming up the stairs. What's worse was a few more walkers walking through the open door.
"What do we do?!" Sophia asked,
"Get to the other room!" Jackson yelled before taking out the first walker that reached the barrier,
Sophia ran to the other room while Jackson dealt with the walkers one by one. Over time, the stairs were getting a little crowded and it was time to bail out before the dead reached him.
He would drop his makeshift spear for being too bloody, run into the bedroom to gather up his gear and run to the other room where Sophia was. With the door shut and locked, I pushed the ladder out and properly elevated it to ensure that it didn't slide back.
He also looked down to see if the coast was clear, which it was, and went to Sophia, "Alright, Sophia. Time to go,"
Sophia would run to the open window and he would help her onto the ladder and carefully climb down the ladder. Jackson wasn't in any rush as he planned with this escape.
For what was inside the cabinet he tilted over by the stairs was a homemade explosive that is set to trigger through a tripwire. Just as he readied himself to climb down the ladder, he heard the explosion and that was their cue to leave before the dead reached the room.
After Sophia reached ground level, Jackson decided to jump down to get down faster. Then he'd take Sophia with him before more show up at the source of the explosion.
Half an hour later, most of the dead had gathered in that very house but the two were already long gone before they reached either room.
Thus ended the first day they've spent together, but more like this one will come soon...
