"This will be an important one. We have word that there is a large corporation holding a lot of alien artifacts hostage." Kate Stewart announces in the morning round up of the new UNIT that employs mostly those connected to the Doctor in some way. The blonde turns and faces two people from the group that seems to have an instant connection almost attached by the hip since the night almost 8 months prior. Because of the Master, the Doctor and herself. "We will need someone with psychic paper and a large group of others to go with."
"Kate," Graham, the man who has gone mostly gray in the last few years, starts to speak up. "We don't exactly have a large group of people."
"I know that Graham; that is why Ace is definitely going to be by your side." Ace and Graham share a look both wondering why it seems they are always paired up for these assignments. They are also afraid to admit that they have fallen for each other. "Who else would like to go with the two?"
Ace's best friend who has dark brown hair in a gray trench coat, Tegan answers, "I do." Ace silently wishes that Tegan will keep quiet for once as she knows that her friend every moment she gets will be teasing her about Graham.
"Thank you Tegan, you can be in the passenger seat, I will be driving. We need two more people," Kate looks around when the two youngest members decide to join, one of which stayed with the Doctor through a whole regeneration and the other left the TARDIS near the end with Graham.
"I don't mind going just as long as I don't have to watch those two flirt constantly," Ryan, grandson to Graham says while looking at Ace and Graham and watches as Graham's cheeks go red. "Though I don't have my psychic paper with me today. I was running late."
"I have it son, don't worry."
"I am surprised you were out before I got up, what were you doing?"
"Getting breakfast, it is the most important meal of the day after all."
"Everyone, we will have time to talk on the way, this car has three rows of seats." Kate hands out papers she purposely printed one less then she needed so Ace and Graham would be forced to share. The small group all head out, when Tegan gets in the car, she calls Nyssa to inform her of what's going on. Ace and Graham sit in the middle seats, heads close together as they read the paper. After they are finished reading they start quietly talking, continuing their chat from breakfast.
"You were telling me about your trouble with the law when you were a teenager." Graham reminds Ace.
"I was getting revenge on these kids who were making racist jokes."
Tegan, seeing the two very close, rolls her eyes, "just kiss already."
"What do you mean, Tegan?" Ace wishes her friend wouldn't reveal that she likes Graham.
"How can the two of you be so blind? It is obvious to everyone around you," Tegan is more than fed up listening to her friend talk about the man sitting to her right and doing nothing about it. This isn't high school.
"Just please save the kissing to when I am not around you both." Pops a voice from the back.
"Ryan." Graham speaks back to the seat where Ryan and Yaz are sitting.
"Come on, you know it."
"Know what?"
"What Tegan and Ryan mean is that there is a spark between the two of you," Kate knowing that they are approaching the part where they are going to have to park and get into different clothes.
A little while later the small group arrives at the building and Graham takes out the psychic paper, "remember they don't need to know your real name, Graham." Ace whispers in his ear.
"You know I have been practicing with it."
"I do and how often do we end up laughing because of what it says."
"Over half the time," Ace bumps Graham with her shoulder, smiling at him. The others with them watch as Graham smiles back at her. As they approach Ace and Graham's hands brush as Graham holds up the psychic paper.
"My name is."
"Graham O'Brien and you like the woman standing next to you."
"What it doesn't say that." Kate, Tegan, Yaz and Ryan try to hold back snickers. "It says that we are inspectors."
"You may be inspectors, but your weird ID is telling me you like the woman standing next to you, and since it isn't telling me what you are I think." Next thing everyone knows it he is on the ground knocked out.
"Ace?" Graham is shocked and a bit turned on with what she just did.
"Run and I will tell you later." Ace takes off followed by everyone, Graham even more in awe of the woman.
"Ace?"
"Shh Graham, I will tell you about it later." Ace can hear footsteps coming their way and drags Graham to a small corner as the others hide. Ace and Graham start to breathe hard, but their breaths match as chests rise and fall, blue eyes meet hazel then both drop to their lips knowing what each of them want to do. Though the moment ends as the footsteps fade and Tegan yells for them.
"Oi lovebirds, we have work to do. I know I said in the car to just kiss already, but that can wait." Graham steps away from Ace, both are trying to hold back blushes but are failing. While standing there Ace reached into Graham's pocket and is twirling it in her fingers. Ace and Graham are walking as close as possible without touching. Tegan quietly whispers to Kate, "when we are done I think we have to resort to the cliche of locking them in a room." Kate nods her head as she sees Ace and Graham's index finger almost interlock.
"Ace, did you get that from my pocket?"
"Maybe."
"I didn't feel it being removed from there."
"I have very nimble fingers," Ace informs him with a raised eyebrow.
"Can everyone please be quiet," Ryan suggests. Everyone grows silent looking for what they need to grab. A man comes up to the group.
"Who are you?" Ace holds out the psychic paper and the man reads it outloud, "Ace O'Brien inspector of all things odd." The man looks around everyone else, "and they are?"
"My associates, this is Graham, Tegan, Kate and the two in the back are Yaz and Ryan."
"Ok, follow me." After the man turns around Ace and Graham share a look both thinking that was too easy. While the others in their group hold a hand up to their lips with what the psychic paper told the man Ace's last name was.
