Lucy stood against the rails of the castle's balcony, her arms supporting her head as she took in the brilliant sight before her. The vast late night sky stretched before her, the many twinkling stars decorating the blue-black blend of the sky. She heard footsteps come her way and heard them stop when she felt a presence only an inch to her right. With her eyes still locked on the consolations that patterned the night, she knew who had accompanied her without needing to spare a glance. The night's gentle winter breeze tickled her skin, sending chills down her bare arms. Though it wasn't too much of a bother, she greatly appreciated the sudden warmth circling her that radiated off her companion.
"Are you coming inside Lucy?" Natsu asked, his voice unusually soft. Lucy figured that he had noticed the tranquility she was feeling in the moment. They had just finished a job together. It was a rather complex one which centred around saving the town's beloved princess from a band of troublesome, but quite powerful wizards, so they decided to bring their whole team along.
As part of their reward for rescuing the girl, the palace had thrown them a party. Not exactly a fairytail style party which primarily involved alcohol (lots of it), wild music and brawls breaking out every five minutes. No, this was a lot like the parties Lucy were used to growing up; ball gowns, dancing and beautifully decorated halls. Although it wasn't their particular cup of tea, the team enjoyed themselves by stuffing their faces (Ezra was particularly fond of their wide selection of cake), chatting with the locals and attempting to slow dance, which resulted in lots of laughter. Lucy had excused herself to explore the beautifully decorated balcony that she had her eye on from the minute she walked into the grand hall. It reminded her greatly of the balcony that was attached to her late mother's bedroom; a place that brought her both comfort and sorrow.
She shook her head at the dragon slayer's question, a smile creeping up on her face as she felt him mirror her gaze, staring up at the sky. Although she had missed the shift in his expression and softening of his fiery eyes as he caught her smile.
"Isn't it beautiful." she murmured softly, her bright brown eyes almost reflecting the stars as they glimmered in awe. Being a celestial wizard, the wonders of the night sky enchanted her, and constellations comforted her, just as the golden metal of her keys do. She only hoped that Natsu understood her fascination instead of teasing her about it. Although she wouldn't be surprised either way.
At her words, Natsu's eyes shifted to her briefly but despite his mind telling him to look away and reply to her accordingly, his eyes trained on her. She didn't seem to notice his blatant stare, how his eyes studied her face, and how he took in every detail, his breath leaving him . Her face was aglow by the light of the moon, making her eyes shimmer and lips appear a pale pink. His gaze trailed down her body, he said a silent prayer of thanks that Lucy was to occupied to notice him taking in every inch of her. The white dress she wore clung to her perfectly, the silk perfectly accompanied her soft pale skin, and the tangle of gold necklaces she wore complimented her long blond locks which tumbled gracefully down her back. His mouth open slightly, at a loss of what to say or do. He had always known his best friend was pretty, he wasn't blind after all but never had he properly taken it all in. He admired her like she was a piece of art; the painters best work. Like an angel, he thought, breathtaking.
"Yeah.. beautiful" he breathed out, eyes still lingered on her though his head was turned.
Lucy hummed in response, oblivious to her partner's racing heart that was most definitely not caused by the beauty of night's sky before them.
