Carter vs Valerie
The next morning, after everyone had breakfast, the group picked up their Pokemon from the nurse. Kevin lets Golett out of its pokeball and gives it the Spell Tag he found on Route 14. He then returns Golett to its pokeball. After that, they leave the Pokemon Center and head straight for the gym.
"Badge number six, here we come." said Jonny.
"So, where's the gym at?" asked Nazz.
"Let's ask around." said Kevin. The group does so and quickly find someone who directs them to where the gym is located. They head there and go inside to see a lot of attractive-looking girls all over the place, getting the boys' attention.
"Look at all the babes." said Kevin.
"Rolf is stunned by the beauty of these young damsels." said Rolf. Jonny tried his best to ignore them for Korrina's sake, but it wasn't easy. A brunette girl in a blue dress with magenta trim notices the group and walks over to them.
"Hello." said the girl. "What can I do for you?" Kevin shakes his head to bring himself back to his senses.
"Yeah, is this the Laverre City Gym?" asked Kevin.
"Yes, it is." replied the girl. Nazz looks around at all the mannequins that had very fashionable dresses on them.
"Really?" asked Nazz. "What's with these awesome outfits everywhere?"
"The Gym Leader, Valerie, is a famous fashion designer here in Kalos." said the girl.
"Really?" replied Nazz. "That is so cool!"
"She operates her fashion store in the gym, as well as doing some fashion shows once in a while." said a girl with blonde hair, wearing a white dress with black trim.
"That is so rad!" said Nazz.
"Anyway, is this Valerie lady available for a gym battle?" asked Kevin.
"Actually, she's about to begin one with a trainer who arrived shortly before you all did." said a girl with black hair, wearing a black dress with crimson trim.
"Can we watch?" asked Nazz.
"Sure, follow me." said a girl with green hair, wearing a red dress with a pink sash around her waist.
'I would follow any of these babes anywhere.' Kevin thought to himself as he and the rest of the group head to the battle arena. They soon step inside and look out onto the field.
"Hey, isn't that Carter?" asked Jonny. Kevin quickly looks out onto the field and growls when he does, in fact, see Carter, carrying his skateboard over his shoulder, who notices the group watching him.
"Hey, dweeb!" Carter says to Kevin.
"Hey, dork!" said Kevin.
"What brings you and your friends here?" asked Carter.
"Same reason you are." said Kevin.
"Whatever." said Carter. "Just watch me take on this gym leader and try to learn something." The group looks to the opposite side of the battle arena and see a woman with long black hair with purple hair clips, and purplish gray eyes; she was wearing a short, pink and purple, kimono-like outfit that had sleeves that resembled butterfly wings, a yellow corset with purple strings, black socks, and long, black, high heels with pink soles.
"So that's the gym leader, huh?" asked Kevin.
"She's so beautiful." said Nazz.
"I like Korrina more." said Jonny. Back on the battlefield, a girl with red hair, wearing a lime green dress with yellow trim steps out onto the field.
"This gym battle is between the gym leader, Valerie; and the challenger, Carter." said the girl acting as referee. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon; whoever manages to defeat all the other trainer's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the battle begin."
"Come on, let's watch." said Kevin. "Not only can we see what Pokemon Valerie uses, but I can see what other Pokemon Carter might have." He and the others run to the bleachers and sit down on them while Valerie and Carter each pull out a pokeball.
"Mawile, go!" said Valerie, throwing a pokeball and releasing a pale yellow, bipedal Pokmeon that had a pair of large black jaws on the back of its head.
"What is that?" asked Nazz. She takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Mawile, the Deceiver Pokemon. Attached to its head is a huge set of jaws formed by horns. It can chew through iron beams." said the pokedex.
"Sandslash, come out!" said Carter, throwing a pokeball and releasing a yellow, bipedal Pokemon with a white underbelly, long claws on its paws and feet and brown quills on its back. Nazz point the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Sandslash, the Mouse Pokemon and the evolved form of Sandshrew. Curls up into a spiny ball when threatened. It can roll while curled up to attack or escape." said the pokedex.
"Okay, Sandslash, use Sand Tomb!" said Carter. Sandslash's eyes glowed blue; sand formed around Mawile's feet and turned into a cyclone that consumed Mawile, dealing super effective damage to it. "Just so you know, Valerie, I gave Sandslash an Earth Plate; it powers up Sandslash's ground type moves."
"Mawile, Crunch!" said Valerie. Mawile leaps at Sandslash and bites it with its black jaws, damaging it and weakening its defense.
"Sandslash, use Dig!" said Carter. Sandslash digs into the arena floor with its claws.
"Where did it go?" asked Kevin.
"Iron Defense!" said Valerie. Mawile's body glows and begins to shine, raising her defense. A sand cyclone appears below Mawile and damages it. Sandslash suddenly emerges from below Mawile and rams into it, dealing super effective damage.
"Use Crunch!" said Valerie. Mawile bites onto Sandslash, doing more damage due to its defense being weakened by Crunch and further weakening Sandslash's defense.
"Magnitude!" said Carter. Sandslash becomes surrounded by a brown aura and it jumps onto the arena floor, sending a shockwave that hits Mawile, dealing enough damage to knock it out.
"Mawile is unable to battle. Sandslash wins the match." said the referee.
"Yeah!" cheered Carter. Kevin crosses his arms and frowns. Valerie returns Mawile to its pokeball.
"You were wonderful out there, Mawile." said Valerie. She puts Mawile's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Mr. Mime, go!" Valerie throws the pokeball and releases a humanoid Pokemon with a pale pink head with dark blue growths coming out from the sides of it, a white torso with skinny pink arms with white hands and skinny pink legs with dark blue feet. Nazz points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Mr. Mime, the Barrier Pokemon and the evolved form of Mime. Jr. It is adept at conning people. It is said to be able to create walls out of thin air by miming." said the pokedex.
"Mr. Mime, Dazzling Gleam!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime releasing a bright, sparkling light from its body and it hits Sandslash, knocking it back.
"Use Gyro Ball!" said Carter. Sandslash tucks itself into a ball and rolls at Mr. Mime.
"Use Reflect!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime waves his hands around, creating a square-shaped wall in front of it which blocks Sandslash's attack, absorbing some of the damage it would've taken.
"Use Poison Sting!" said Carter. Sandslash tucks itself into a ball and spins in midair, releasing a barrage of needles at Mr. Mime, hitting it, and doing super effective damage. Mr. Mime started to look a little ill.
"Oh no." said Nazz. "Mr. Mime's poisoned."
"Mr. Mime, use Psychic!" said Valerie. Mr. Mime's eyes glowed blue, making a similar-colored aura appear around Sandslash that lifts it up into the air and slams it to the ground. Mr. Mime suddenly takes damage from the poisoning.
"Use Gyro Ball again!" said Carter. Sandslash once again tucks itself into a ball and rolls at Mr. Mime, this time breaking through its barrier and slamming into it, doing enough super effective damage to knock it out.
"Mr. Mime is unable to battle. Sandslash is the winner." said the referee.
"Nice one, Sandslash!" said Carter. Kevin just scoffs in response.
"He just got lucky." said Kevin.
"But at least we know what Pokemon that Valerie has so far." said Nazz.
"Yeah, and at least one other Pokemon that Carter has." said Jonny.
"True." said Kevin. Valerie returns her Mr. Mime to its pokeball.
"You did your best, Mr. Mime." said Valerie. She puts Mr. Mime's pokeball back onto her sash and pulls out her last one. She throws it, releasing a pale pink, quadrupedal Pokemon with dark pink ears and tail, light blue eyes, and long, pale pink ribbons that are dark pink, blue, and light blue at the ends of them, tied around her neck and left ear.
"She's so beautiful." said Nazz with awe as she points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Sylveon, the Intertwining Pokemon, and the evolved form of Eevee. It wraps its ribbonlike feelers around the arm of its beloved Trainer and walks with him or her." said the pokedex.
Back at the battle, Sandslash and Sylveon are facing off against each other.
"Sylveon, use Sand Attack!" said Valerie. Sylveon flings sand into Sandslash's eyes, blinding it, and lowering its accuracy.
"Sandslash, use Poison Sting!" said Carter. Sandslash tries to hit Sylveon with its attack, but the sand in its eyes made it miss.
"Sylveon, use Disarming Voice!" said Valerie. Sylveon lets out a soothing soundwave from its mouth which hits Sandslash, knocking it back.
"Sandslash, use Gyro Ball!" said Carter. Sandslash spins around in midair and flings itself at Sylveon, hitting it, and doing super effective damage. As Sylveon gets to its feet, Sandslash looks at it and starts to blush with hearts appearing in its eyes.
"Awww, I think Sandslash is in love." said Nazz.
"Sylveon has the Cute Charm ability." said Valerie. "Any Pokemon of the opposite gender that hits her with a physical move has a chance of becoming attracted to her."
"Come on, Sandslash; snap out of it!" said Carter.
"Sylveon, use Draining Kiss!" said Valerie. Sylveon walks over to Sandslash and kisses it on the cheek, draining its remaining stamina, healing some of her injuries, and knocking Sandslash out.
"Sandslash is unable to battle. Sylveon is the winner." said the referee.
"Excellent work, Sylveon." said Valerie. Sylveon nods her head in response.
"Ha! How did you like that, dork?" Kevin asked Carter.
"Shut it, dweeb!" Carter responds as he returns his Sandslash to its pokeball. He pulls out another pokeball and throws it, releasing his Skarmory. "I won't hit her with a physical move, so Skarmory, use Flash Cannon!" Skarmory opens its beak and releases a silver beam of energy from it, hitting Sylveon, doing super effective damage.
"Sylveon, use Draining Kiss again!" said Valerie. Sylveon jumps towards Skarmory.
"Skarmory, use Steel Wing!" said Carter. Skarmory's wings glow white, and it uses them to strike Sylveon, sending her crashing to the ground. Fortunately for Carter, Cute Charm doesn't activate.
"Why didn't Cute Charm work?" asked Kevin.
"Maybe Skarmory's a girl?" suggested Jonny.
"That's probably right." said Kevin.
"Skarmory, use Flash Cannon one more time!" said Carter. Skarmory opens her beak and releases one more silver beam of energy toward the ground, hitting Sylveon, doing enough damage to her to knock her out.
"Sylveon is unable to battle. Skarmory is the winner. The winner of the gym battle is the challenger, Carter." said the referee.
"Yeah! Way to go, Skarmory!" said Carter.
"Whatever." said Kevin. Valerie returns her Sylveon to her pokeball.
"You fought bravely, Sylveon." said Valerie. She puts Sylveon's pokeball away as Carter rides his skateboard over to her.
"I think you have something for me." said Carter as he holds out his hand. Valerie nods as she pulls out a badge that looked like a set of pink wings.
"As proof of your victory, I present you with the Fairy Badge." said Valerie. She then hands the badge, along with some pokedollars to Carter.
"Awesome! I won the Fairy Badge!" said Carter as he holds the badge towards Kevin.
"So what?" said Kevin. "I'll be getting one of my own soon."
"Yeah, right." said Carter. "I got more badges to win." He then hops on his skateboard and rides it out of the gym.
"Dork." said Kevin. Valerie sees the group.
"Are any of you here to challenge me?" asked Valerie.
"You bet we are." said Jonny.
"Very well." said Valerie. "After I get my Pokemon treated, I'll return."
"Rolf will battle first." said Rolf. Valerie nods as she exits the gym.
Carter just won his Fairy Badge. Will the Cul-De-Sac kids be able to do so as well?
