Delphi slid into the booth beside Oliver. "Okay, how do you two know each other?"
Oliver continued to look straight on at the man in front of him as he continuously rolled the wrapping from a straw between his thumb and pointer finger. "That's the man from that day. The man I caught with my mum."
Lionel stayed quiet. Adverting Oliver's eyes that were like daggers to him.
"How do you two know each other?" Oliver asked.
"We're siblings ─" Lionel started.
"HALF siblings," Delphi interjected.
Lionel furrowed his eyebrows at Delphi then focused back on Oliver. "We have the same dad. Listen, I didn't expect you to be at the same school as Delphina. I'm not stalking you or anything like that." He began to nervously rub his knuckle with his thumb before he started a new sentence. "But since I've run into you, I think this is the perfect opportunity for me to clear up some things."
"Like?" Oliver asked, not hiding his anger and annoyance.
"Well, me and your mum are not romantic with each other, that's for one. We never did anything inappropriate."
Oliver raised an eyebrow. "But that day I saw you two… What was that about?"
Lionel looked down at his lap trying to find the right words to say to Oliver. "It was just me being silly. I spun her around and we fell on the bed. We were cuddling. We didn't sleep together."
Delphi's eyebrows shot up as she studied their conversation.
"But it's still inappropriate. You two were doing that in secret when no one was there, so you know it's wrong."
"Yes! But that was it! Me and your mum connect with each other emotionally and that's all!"
Oliver scoffed. "That makes me feel SOOOOO much better," he said sarcastically. "An emotional affair is still an affair," Oliver leaned over towards Lionel, causing Lionel to lean a bit back. "And you want it to be more than that, don't you?"
Lionel stayed silent.
"You like her."
Lionel was hesitant, but he nodded. "Yes, I'm in love with her and if she'd allowed me to take it further I would've. I can tell that Jane loves me too."
"You're fucking crazy," Oliver said with astonishment in his voice.
"I saw her a few days ago and she told me everything," Lionel said.
"You saw her?" Anger creeped in Oliver's voice once more.
Lionel jolted and raised a hand to defend himself. "Not like that! I ran into her at the grocery store, and she told me everything before your dad showed up." The sigh he released carried an obvious hint of sadness. He looked back down at his lap. "But your mum loves your family, and it looks like she's trying her best to get in a good place with your dad, so…" He trailed off.
Oliver studied him. Listening to all this was a lot, practically over stimulating.
"Please, don't tell your dad about us!"
Oliver snapped out of his thoughts. "What?"
"Jane isn't going to see me anymore. I think she's blocked my number, and she deleted her online account and the way she looks at your dad…" Lionel began to choke back.
Oliver did a deep sigh and rolled his eyes. "You're on drugs if you think I'm going to sympathize with a home wrecker." He slid his backpack over his arm. "Excuse me, Delphi."
Delphi moved out of the way and Oliver scooted out of the booth and walked out the door.
Delphi looked back at Lionel who was looking into his lap. "I have to go."
As Oliver continued to walk, he heard Delphi calling his name. He turned around and saw her chasing after him.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"Did you know!?" Oliver stressed. "Are you covering for him!?"
Delphi's eyes widened in surprise. "Of course not, Oli! I'm just as surprised as you!"
Oliver threw his head back and ran his fingers through his hair. "You're right. You're right. Sorry," he mumbled. He looked back down at Delphi. "I'm sorry for everything."
Delphi stayed silent as she looked back up at him. She then let out a groan and hopped up to pull down Oliver's beanie over his face. "Dick head…" she chuckled. "Apology not accepted. You're still a dick head."
Oliver placed his beanie back in place as he let out a small laugh. "You're here bullying the guy who just had to sit down with his mother's side babe, aka your brother, but I'm the dick head?"
"Are you going to do it? Not tell your dad, I mean."
Oliver leaned on a nearby building and crossed his arms as he looked up. "I don't know."
Tori had herself completely wrapped in multiple blankets as she scrolled on her phone.
Michael then walked in to collect her bowls from her lunch.
"You know you don't have to do this," Tori said. "The doctor says I'm a bit stable now, so you can go back to training."
"Emphases on bit," Michael said making the small sign with his fingers. "Tori, I don't think I can relax until the doctor tells you that you're at least 99.9% okay."
Tori continued to study her partner as he continued to pick up the dishes left on the side table.
Since her scare and swearing him into secrecy about the events from that day, her and Michael hadn't had the chance to properly discuss what happened, and Michael hasn't been himself. He hardly ever goes to his practices, and when he does, it's only for two hours or less. He checks on her frequently, and even began to neglect sleeping to watch over her in case something happened during the night.
"Do you need anything?" Michael asked before exiting the room.
"You look so tired," Tori said.
"I'm fine Tori," Michael forced a smile. "I promise." He then began to walk towards the kitchen.
Tori pulled the heavy blankets from off her and followed behind him. She looked at Michael's back as he washed the dishes.
Michael looked behind him. "Go back and rest, Tori. I'm fine, I swear."
"No, you're not, Michael. Don't treat me like I'm stupid," Tori stressed. "You think I'm not noticing things, but I am."
Michael sighed and went back to doing the dishes.
"I know what happened might have scared you, but I'm fine. There's nothing for you to stress about."
Michael threw his head back as he tossed the wash rag into the sink. He placed his hand on his hips and turned to look at her. "Look at you, Tori," he said at a whisper.
Tori was confused. She stared silently back at Michael, waiting for him to continue.
"Since that day you haven't been the same… and this keeping secrets thing… it's keeping me on high alert, ya' know?" Michael said. "I can't help to think if I wasn't there and you somehow made your way to the hospital, would you have kept this from me too?"
"I wouldn't!" Tori said. "Why would I hide something like that from you?"
"Why hide it from Charlie?" Michael asked. "If you could hide something like this from him, what's stopping you from hiding it from me? I know you hate me helicoptering you, but I can't help it. Not with something as urgent as this."
He turned back to finish the last few dishes.
"But…but the Olympics! You're training─" Tori started.
"Fuck the Olympics, Tori!" Michael interjected angrily. "I can miss this one."
"All over something so small?" Tori scoffed. "I'm not a child! I can take care of myself!"
"You think I don't know that!?" Michael shouted, causing Tori to jump. He turns around and leans on the sink as he pushes up his glasses to rub his eyes. "And how can you call this situation small? You could've miscarried! Not only that, but the signs are all pointing to the pregnancy being high risk!"
"That's not what the doctor said!" she replied sternly. "She said the spotting is rare, but normal. For you to be having these thoughts is insane, Michael!"
"What is so insane about me worrying about you? That's what people who love each other do. You're the insane one for trying to act like it never happened."
Tori's eyebrows shot up.
"Acting like you're not scared and wanting me to pretend to be happy when I'm not is insane."
The two stared down at each other until Michael shook his head.
"I shouldn't be having a conversation this intense with you. Sorry," Michael said as he walked up to Tori. He placed his hands on her shoulders. "Please go back and rest." He walked past her into the living room and picked up his keys from the coffee table.
"Are you going to practice?" Tori asked.
"I'm going to the store," Michael said. "What I'm making for dinner tonight calls for a few more things."
"I want you to go to practice, Michael."
Michael sighed. "I'll be back in twenty minutes, okay?"
Tori couldn't help but scrunch her face with anger. She doesn't say anything and walks back to their room.
"Tori!" Michael called after her. He jumps at the slam of the bedroom door.
He sighed once more before grabbing a coat and walking out of the flat.
Nick walked into his office and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Monica at his desk leaving some paperwork behind. "What are you doing here?"
"They haven't told you?" Monica asked.
Nick looked at her in confusion.
"Nancy's leaving, so Ruben put me back to intern with you."
"HUH!?" Nick exclaimed. He walked out of his office to Nancy's. He's confused when he sees Ruben and his other coworkers in her office as well with small cups of cider and sweets in their hands.
Nick walked up to one of his coworkers. "What's going on?"
"Nancy's just announced she's expecting and is going on paternity leave today," the coworker smiled.
"WHAT!?" Nick pushed through the crowd to get to her. "Nancy, you're leaving?"
Nancy looked over at Nick as she sat at her desk. "Yes Nick! I'm pregnant," she laughed. "Who would've thought I could still get pregnant at my age! I'm forty-three for crying out loud!" She laughed again.
Nick continued to look at her with his mouth agape.
Nancy lightly tapped him at the bottom of his chin to shut his mouth. "You'll catch flies, Nicky sweetie." She grabbed a cup of cider and a small plate with a brownie on it and handed it to Nick. "Enjoy my little get together."
Nick suddenly feels a light tap on his shoulder that surprised him. He turns around and sees Ruben. "Ruben! Look, I really need to talk to you."
"Look Nick, I know putting Monica back in your guidance is short notice, but I feel she worked best under you. That little argument you two had can be patched right?"
"Little argument?"
"I got curious and asked Monica what happened, and she told me everything," Ruben assured with a short wave of his hand. "But I feel like assigning her to a new mentor for something like that was kinda overboard for you, ya' know? Who knew you could get so easily offended," Ruben said chuckling as he nudged Nick with his shoulder.
Nick looked at him confused. Ruben usually doesn't take inappropriate behavior at work lightly, so why was he acting like this?
"But like I said before, there's something about you that makes Monica do her job properly, I guess. She was horrible with Nancy."
"What do you mean?"
Monica then walked in the office straight to Nancy and hands her a small gift. Ruben and Nick watched them interact.
Ruben crossed his arms. "She would constantly make little mistakes. Like give Nancy stories with grammar errors and wouldn't even fact check them. She would sometimes be late to prep her before she went live, and she always seemed irritated with her as well." He looked back at Nick. "Maybe you two can talk?"
"Yeah, and maybe soon," Nick said. 'I really need to hear whatever story she told you,' He thought to himself.
Monica then approached Nick and Ruben. "It's nice to be working with you again," she said to Nick, looking deep in his eyes.
"Can we talk?"
Monica's eyebrows shot up. She looked over at Ruben.
Ruben smiled and gave her a nod before walking away.
"We can talk outside," she said.
The two pushed through the crowd and walked to the back exit. Monica closes the lid on the trash bin and hoists herself up to sit on it.
"What in the world did you tell Ruben?"
Monica chuckled. "I told him I messed up your coffee order a few times and you got upset."
Nick scoffed and rolled his eyes. "No wonder he acted like what you did wasn't that bad."
"Look," Monica started. "I'm sorry for making you upset and talking about your husband that way. I just like to joke around."
Nick crossed his arms and lightly shook his head. "How do you do that?"
"Do what?"
"Say things you don't mean."
Monica scoffed. "You trying to say I'm full of shit, Spring-Nelson?"
Nick stayed quiet as he continued to look at her.
She rolled her eyes. "You let that jerk, Jason, get to your head, haven't you? He's always saying stuff about me that isn't true. He's the one that told you to be wary of me, wasn't he?"
Nick continued his silence.
"I'll take that as a yes," Monica grumbled. "Jason just doesn't like me, okay? It isn't the first time he's put people on high alert about me."
"Jason doesn't go around not liking people for no reason," Nick stated. "He noticed something about you and told me when I was blind to it for so long… and he was right."
"Whatever…" Monica slid off the bin. "I'll do my best to regain your trust," she smiled. "Oh…me and Chuck are over by the way."
Nick audibly gasped. "Really?"
Monica nodded as she held back tears.
Nick couldn't help but feel bad for her. "I'm sorry." He pulled a handkerchief from his suit and gave it to her.
Suddenly the exit door opened. Monica and Nick both looked up and saw another intern.
"Sorry to interrupt, but SN, Jason has been looking for you."
Nick noticed Monica suck in a sharp breath. "Will you be okay?"
Monica nodded as she dabbed her eye with the handkerchief. "I just need a moment to myself, please."
Nick studied her over once more before entering the building with the intern.
Like a switch, Monica turned off her theatrics, cleaning her tears and pulling out her phone to make sure her makeup was still salvageable. While looking at herself in the camera, she noticed she got a message from Chuck.
Chuck: Please Monica. Can we talk?
Chuck: Ending our engagement out of nowhere with no reason is crazy!
Chuck: Did I do something wrong?
Monica rolled her eyes at the back-to-back messages.
Monica: I told you already that I got the opportunity to start something with someone better than you. Stop messaging me.
With that Monica blocked Chuck. She then took Nick's handkerchief and kissed it before putting it into her pocket and walking back into the building.
"Have you heard anything?" Ben asked.
Josiah looked from his computer and looked over at him with a raised eyebrow.
"From Charlie, I mean…"
Josiah pushed himself from his desk, leaned from his chair and rubbed his forehead with his hand. "He's avoiding me. We had a bit of a fight, you see."
Ben laughed. "Uh-oh. Sounds like a lover's quarrel."
Josiah then looked at Ben. "You said this story was based on you?"
Ben nodded. "I change a few things here and there, but nothing to extreme. Overall, the events are true."
"So that character that you─ I mean, the main character is obsessed with, is it really Charlie?"
Ben gives Josiah a blank stare. "How much did he tell you?"
Before Josiah could respond, Charlie barged into the office, slamming the door into the wall.
Still startled, Josiah stood from his desk. "I've been trying to call you, you jerk!"
"Oh, shut up, Josiah!" Charlie spits back with venom in his voice. "And I still don't want to speak to you!" He sharply turned his head to face Ben. "I'll do your fucking story."
Ben's face lit up. "Really?"
"I really don't want to, but my kids ─"
"Kids!?" Ben interjected. "You have kids!? With whom!?"
"Why do you care?!" Charlie asked, still ticked off.
Ben shrunk into his seat.
"Charlie, I know you're still mad and everything, but no need to be cruel to him," Josiah said. "But since you're here, maybe we can start a game plan to ─"
"We'll be talking through email," Charlie quickly said. "Email me everything and I'll email it back. I won't be in this office as long as he's here," he said pointing his head towards Ben, causing Ben to shrink in his seat some more.
"Come on, Charlie…" Josiah groaned.
Charlie abruptly left, not saying a word to any of them.
Josiah was stuck, still trying to process what happened. He then found himself running after Charlie. "Charlie!"
Charlie continued to walk through the office towards the door as Josiah still called after him. Josiah finally caught up to him and turned Charlie around from his shoulder. "Will you hold on, damn it!?"
"I have nothing else to say to you right now."
"Charlie, come on! How long are you going to be all mad at me?"
Charlie shrugged and tried to continue to walk off, but Josiah turned him around again.
"Okay, what I said was a bit tone deaf, I admit, but you can't keep avoiding me like this. We're a team."
"A bit?" Charlie scoffed. "And if we're such a team, why did you dismiss my feelings and opinions? Teammates don't do that to each other."
The other workers around them began to whisper amongst themselves and slowly worked as they watched the scene happen in front of them.
"I knew you were a dick, but I didn't know you were that much of one. What you said was downright awful," Charlie said.
"I know, Charlie, but you need to know this is work. How you feel about things and people you work with can't always be taken into account," Josiah said trying his best not to shout.
"Mate, what are you on? We work in publishing; and even if this was another field of work, I have the right to say how I feel about things and if I don't work with someone who has literally assaulted me, I have the right to say something!"
Some of the workers gasped and murmured amongst themselves.
"And you can't even apologize correctly," Charlie continued. "Like I said, talk to me through email."
"But what if I need you here?"
"Then I won't come."
Charlie looked around and noticed the other workers looking at them. He looked back at Josiah. "Like I said, email me." He adjusted the strap of his satchel before leaving the office building.
Josiah watched Charlie leave before he turned around and noticed all the workers looking at him. "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ALL LOOKING AT!? GET BACK TO WORK!"
Charlie walked up to his front door and is startled when he sees Oliver crouched over at the other side of the porch. "What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to see you, big head!" Oliver laughed. "And also…talk."
Charlie studied him for a bit before he unlocked the door to the house. Oliver followed closely behind him to the living room and plopped on the couch. Charlie then went to the table cabinet under the television, unlocked it and moved some things around before pulling out a pack of Oreos and sitting next to his brother.
Oliver chuckled. "You hide food from Nick?"
It was Charlie's turn to chuckle. "You'll understand once you start to live with your special someone." He pops one in his mouth. "So, what's up?"
"You won't believe who I ran into a few days ago."
Charlie furrowed his eyebrows.
"I met mum's affair partner."
Charlie began to choke on his Oreo. "What?"
"And he's related to the girl I like."
"WHAT!?" Charlie yelped. "How did this happen? What was he like?"
Oliver leaned back into the couch and ran both his hands through his hair. "I went to try to invite Delphi out to something, but I saw her talking to him…" Oliver thought on it for a moment. "He seems…fragile? Like he's sorry about the situation but he still finds a way to victimize himself," he said as he began to stare off into space. "He says he loves mum."
Charlie rolled his eyes and groaned.
"He asked that we don't tell dad…"
Charlie propped himself up with his arm as he looked at Oliver. "And now you don't want to tell dad?"
Oliver nodded.
"Is it because of that girl?"
"No. She doesn't even like him anyway," he said. "It's because of what he saw. It seems like she's trying to be in a good place with dad for the sake of the family. Look, I know she can be a bit much, and what she did was unforgivable, but if she's trying… maybe we should… let it go?" he said, quiet and hesitant on the last part.
Charlie's eyes widened at Oliver. He stood up from the couch and began to pace the living room.
"Charlie?"
"DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF!?"
Oliver jumped at the boom in Charlie's voice.
Charlie noticed this. "Sorry. Sorry. I didn't mean to shout. But Oli, you sound crazy. This little meeting with this man was enough to change your perspective of the situation."
"He hasn't changed my perspective! But mum's avoiding this man now and trying to patch things up with dad. Even though we're in the right to tell dad, imagine how we look telling him this information. We'd split up the family."
"We're not splitting up the family, Oli! Mum is!"
"I know, but─"
Before Oliver could finish his sentence, there's a frantic knock at the door.
Charlie and Oliver exchange looks with each other before Charlie goes to open it. He's startled to see Michael at the door. Michael's hair was more tousled than usual, the bags under his eyes were heavy and he was ghostly pail.
"Michael what's going on?"
Michael doesn't say anything and just walks into the house. "Tori!? Tori are you here?!" he called out.
Charlie turns Michael around and sturdies him by his shoulders. "Michael, what is going on?"
Michael let out a sigh of defeat before burying his face into his hands. "I closed my eyes for a few minutes," he whispered.
Charlie then leads him to the living room and directs him to sit in the armchair. Oliver furrows his eyebrows at the scene taking place in front of him.
"Michael, what's going on?" Charlie asked with concern in his voice.
After a moment of silence passed, Michael finally removed his hand from his face. He was practically beet red. "Tori, I can't find her."
Oliver and Charlie exchange looks with each other before turning back to Michael.
"She's not answering her phone or my messages. She just up and left," Michael continued.
"Why would she leave and not tell you?" Oliver asked.
"We've been fighting," Michael answered. "She's extremely mad at me."
"Her mad at you?" Charlie asked astonished. "What for?"
Michael stayed silent.
"Michael?"
"I promised not to tell," he said, even though the secret was killing him inside. "I'm sorry."
Charlie got worried. "Does it have something to do with the pregnancy?"
'Damn he's smart,' Michael thought to himself. "No," he lied, averting Charlie's gaze.
Charlie studied Michael some more. Something about the tone on the 'no' felt off putting. Though hesitant to, he decided not to push it any further. "Have you checked any other places?"
Michael nodded. "Her workspace, the places she likes to eat, the bookstores, everywhere."
The three men sat and thought on it for a while. Where on earth could she be?
Oliver then stood up, scaring the other two. "I know where she is."
"What? Where?" Charlie asked.
"Follow me."
Jane handed Tori a plate of pasta with a side of garlic bread.
Tori sits up in bed for a bit. "Are you a witch trying to fatten me up for your next dish?" she asked. "I just ate."
"Honey, that was hours ago," Jane scolded. "You're probably saying you're not hungry because you're upset, but those babies probably are."
"Listen to your mother, honey," Julio said walking into the room.
Tori hesitantly took the food and began to start on the pieces of chicken.
Jane and Julio sat on the foot side of Tori's old bed.
"Are you ready to tell us what's going on between you and Michael?" Julio questioned. "It must be something serious."
Tori threw her head back. "The situation is serious, but I feel that Michael's reaction is overboard. He doesn't want to do the Olympics next year," Tori said. At least it was part of the truth.
"Really?" Jane questioned, cocking an eyebrow. "It's made you that upset that you ran here?"
"Jane don't mock her," Julio said. "Michael is her boyfriend, so of course she'd care about him putting something he loves on hold."
"It's because of the pregnancy. He's treating me like I'm made of glass," Tori whined. "I'm fine and can take care of myself."
Julio smiled at his daughter. "Honey, that's what people who love each other do. You should've seen the way I was when your mum was pregnant with you guys."
"I was annoyed, but his feelings were valid," Jane said. "I was so fragile."
Tori gave Jane a puzzled look. "What do you mean?"
Jane thought on her next words for a moment before she answered. "I just became very weak while pregnant. You and Charlie were a lot. My pregnancy with Oliver was so easy though."
Tori rolled her eyes at the Oliver comment.
"But seeing me in that type of state worried your dad. Someone who was once filled with energy becoming tired and practically immobile twenty-four seven is scary and that's what Michael is experiencing. Try to understand where he's coming from, okay?"
Suddenly there was a heavy knock at the door. Julio went downstairs to answer it. His face perked up when he saw who it was. "Are we throwing a party or something?"
Charlie, Michael, and Oliver stepped into the house.
"Please tell me she's here," Michael asked with desperation in his voice.
"Upstairs," Julio said, gesturing his hand towards the stairs.
Michael ran up the stairs, calling Tori's name. Tori jumps at Michael slamming on the door frame.
Jane looked between them. "I'll leave you two to talk," she said as she stood up and left the room.
Michael closed the door behind him before he began to walk towards Tori.
"Michael. I ─"
Michael then sits on the bed and wraps his arms around her. "Please don't scare me like that."
Tori hugs him back. "I'm sorry. I'm just so mad." She pulls away. "I'm fine, I swear. I don't need you to act like this."
"But Tori ─"
"No Michael!" Tori interrupted. "I understand the concern, but you abusing yourself all for my sake isn't making me rest easy at all." She held his face and began to notice how different he looked compared to how he did weeks prior. "Look at you," she broke down.
Michael's eyes widened in surprise.
Tori quickly wiped away her tears. "Sorry, I'm hormonal," she laughs between her cries. "But I don't want you to miss out on next year all because of me. I'm fine. It was just that one scare."
Michael squeezed her hands. "Are you sure?"
Tori nodded.
He does a reluctant sigh. "Okay, I'll go back to practice."
Tori lit up. "Really?" Her smile then quickly faded. "Wait! You're not gonna become some weirdo and put nanny cams all over the flat to watch me from a different location, are you?"
Michael stared at her for a moment before he began to laugh. Laughing so hard he threw himself back on the bed and began wiping away his tears.
Tori reached for the pillow she was using to support her back and wacked Michael with it. "I'm being serious, Michael!" She whined. "You better actually go to practice and give it your all!"
Michael began to compose himself. "Okay. But you also have to promise me that you'll take care of yourself too. No skipping meals and you'll tell me if you need anything, yes?"
Tori nodded.
Three quiet knocks began at Tori's door before it opened. Oliver then popped his head in with his eyes closed. "Are you two decent?"
Michael chuckled while Tori rolled her eyes at Oliver's joke.
Oliver then walked in. "You alright?"
Tori nodded.
An awkward silence filled the room.
"Listen ─" Tori and Oliver said in unison. They both stopped before Tori gestured for him to go first.
"I wanted to say that I'm sorry for blowing up on you the last time we were on the phone. You were just concerned and I'm sorry I hurt your feelings."
"Yeah, and I'm sorry for trying to force that secret out of you. You're allowed to have secrets and I don't need to know everything."
Oliver crouched a bit and hugged his sister. "I've missed coming to your flat and eating your snacks," he chuckled.
Tori pushed him off and playfully smacked him in his arm. "Way to ruin the moment, dipshit."
Oliver left the room quickly and went to his to get the chair from his desk. He put the chair next to her bed and sat. "There's so much that I've been wanting to talk to you about."
"Like?"
"Well, I've already spoken to Charlie about it… Maybe I don't need to tell you."
Tori looked at Oliver with an agape mouth. "You can't just say something like that and take it back! Tell me!"
"Well, there's this girl…"
"Oli, you date?" Michael asked, surprised.
Oliver began to stutter a bit. "Why is everyone surprised that I have a love life?"
"To be honest, I thought you were like me… or like Charlie and you just didn't know how to say it," Tori said. "You never brought anyone home OR talk about anyone in that way."
"I just thought that he was like Nick's brother but more subtle about it. Just a loose man who doesn't "believe in labels"," Michael said doing air quotes.
Oliver gave Michael a shocked look. "You can't be serious."
Michael shrugged in response.
"It looks like I have a lot to catch you guys up on…" Oliver smirked.
Jane walked into the kitchen and jumped when she saw Charlie and Julio together.
"Charlie?" Jane said, trying her best to stay cool and collected. "You're here, too?"
"Can you believe it?" Julio smiled. "All we need is Nick and his mum and it'll be like a mini reunion." He stood up from his chair. "I should bake something. Charlie, try to see if you can get Nick to come over."
Charlie couldn't help but smile at his dad's excitement. "He wanted to spend time with his mum today, so I don't know if he'll just drop her and come here."
"She can come here too! Did you not hear what I said before?" Julio began to look in the cabinets for spices. "We should make those Chelsea buns today!"
"But we just cooked dear," Jane said. "Are you sure?"
"Yes!" Julio exclaimed as he sat the ingredients on the table. He then pulls out a bowl of dough from the fridge and checks if it has already risen. "I don't know, but with Tori coming here because she needed comfort and everyone else showing up… I don't know… but I just feel so happy." He looked over at Charlie. "I want you to stay and learn. I don't want any grandkids with chipped teeth."
Charlie scoffed as he got up to watch.
As they began to bake, Charlie couldn't help but notice how his parents were acting. They were being over flirty. They were having some playful banter, reminiscing, laughing, giving each other a few pecks here and there and there was even a time when he decided to play some music from his phone and an older song came on. His parents immediately faced each other mirroring their excitement and began to slow dance, making Charlie feel like it was their world, and he was just living in it.
The aroma of the sweet pastry quickly filled the house, causing Oliver, Tori, and Michael to come down the stairs.
"Are those Chelsea buns I smell?" Oliver questioned as he walked in the kitchen. He began to reach for one before Jane smacked his hand.
"Let them cool off at least," Jane scolded.
Oliver pouted a bit, but then had a light bulb moment. "Mum, there's a crow in the garden," he said pointing out the window.
Not only Jane, but everyone else turned to look out the window. While they were distracted, Oliver quickly grabbed the bun he wanted and ran away.
Jane snapped her head around. "OLIVER JOHNATHAN SPRING!"
Julio began to let out a hardy laugh, impressed that Oliver's silly trick actually worked on all of them. He then picks up the tray with the other buns on them. "Should we move this party to the living room?"
The day carries on as everyone mingles with each other eating the buns.
Oliver emerges from whatever room he's been eating his buns in and takes another one.
"That's like your hundredth one," Tori exaggerated. "Save some for the rest of us!"
Oliver sizes her up and gives her the bird before going back to his hiding spot.
Tori gasps and turns to Julio and Jane. "Say something you two!"
Jane and Julio look at each other before taking a sip of their coffee.
"Really!?"
Charlie laughed at Tori's reaction while Michael wrapped an arm around her trying to stifle his.
Jane then twisted her body to the side and laid her legs on Julio as she leaned into him. Julio rested his head on hers and pulled her closer.
Charlie took notice of this. He stood up and took two buns before going off to find Oliver. After some searching, Charlie finds him in his old room.
"You have a lot of nerve eating in my bed," Charlie joked.
"As soon as you moved out it became MY room," Oliver said with a mischievous smirk. "I'm eating in MY bed."
Charlie rolled his eyes. He pulled his chair from his old drum set closer to the bed. "You must admire my aesthetic then, since everything still looks the same."
Oliver shook his head. "I'm just lazy, mate."
Charlie handed Oliver the second bun he had as he took a bite of his. "So, this visit has me thinking."
Oliver put his phone down on his stomach, giving his full attention to his brother.
"Maybe you're right."
Oliver eyes widened as he sat up.
"I see the way they're being towards each other and if it is true that she's not seeing that man anymore and if we tell dad while everything's going perfect…" Charlie trailed off. "What I'm saying is… should we really keep this information to ourselves?"
Nick moved a box out of his way and saw a box that had Nicky's Baby Things written in black sharpie on it. He picked it up and walked down the stairs of the attic. "You were talking about this one, mum?"
"Yes!" Sarah said.
Nick plopped the box on the floor, causing dust to go every which way.
Sarah pulled her house key from her pockets and tore the tape that was holding the box closed. "Oh!" she exclaimed. She pulls out a tiny blue onesie. "This is what you wore when we left the hospital with you." She sits it down and digs in it some more. She then pulls out a tiny bear. "Your brother got this for you at the gift shop that was near the hospital. He was so excited to meet you." Her bright smile suddenly faded. "Have you told your brother yet?"
Nick shook his head. "I honestly thought you might have already told him by now. I mean, you did tell dad." He then knelt down and started digging around in the box. "And you know I don't speak to David anymore."
Sarah sighed. "That's true."
"Don't tell me you expected me to get over our fight, too."
"No, it's not that. But…" Sarah stops when she sees a picture of David and Nick when they were younger. It was a misty day, and they were stomping in mud puddles. "I just wish you two were close, like Charlie and his siblings."
Nick furrowed his eyebrows and gave his mum a sad smile. He would be lying to himself if he said he didn't wish they were like Charlie, Tori, and Oliver too. "It wasn't meant to be I guess."
Sarah returned the sad smile back. She started looking in the box some more. "And what do you mean by that? Does someone want you to make amends with him?"
"Dad thought we would've resolved it by now, but I really can't let that go," Nick said as he pulled out more clothes.
"And that's okay, sweetheart," Sarah said. "If you and David are meant to rekindle, the universe would let it happen." She stood up. "Want me to make you something small to eat?"
"Mum, you really don't have too. Aren't you tired?"
Sarah put her hands on her hips. "What am I? An old woman?" She turned around on her heels and headed down the stairs towards the kitchen.
Nick smirked as his mum left. He began to look in the box and pulled out more of his clothing. To think he was once this small is insane. While he pulled out more clothes, he caught a glimpse of the photo his mum found.
He was reluctant at first but decided to pick it up and look at it. He remembered that day. The puddles they jumped in, the chilled breeze, and even when David chased him around with a worm on a stick.
"They don't have a clue in the world," Nick mumbled to himself as he took one final look at the picture. He carelessly threw it behind him before going back to search for more things.
Suddenly, Nick's phone began to vibrate in his pocket. He took it from his pocket and saw an unsaved number calling him.
He picks up. "Hello?"
"Nick?"
Nick's heart drops at the sound of the familiar voice. "How the hell did you get my number?"
The person stays silent.
"Answer me!"
"Can we talk please?"
A moment of silence passed before Nick responded. "Delete my number."
He hung up before he stood up and went to join his mum in the kitchen.
