Chapter 49

News No One Wants to Hear

Its been a year since they came to the sea and now there was a town where the wall use to be. Marleyans were now living on the Island that they captured. Some had jobs with the Queen and Hange's help. Kara was happy they were doing stuff. The island was now advancing then they were 100 years ago.

Kara stood with Jean and Sasha as they stood on the pier. All were dressed in their Scouts Dress Clothes. They were getting a visit from special people and Yelena. And all were invited into a meeting. Kara's long hair was now cut and now laid on her shoulders. She wanted something new and Jean liked it. All stood straight and tall as Yelena came onto the dock. They were expecting their first visitors to the island that wasn't an army from Marley. Yelena's eyes land on Eren.

"Eren. It's been a year now. I haven't seen you since you picked up our whole ship." Yelena said. She held out her hand. "I look forward to working beside you." Kara didn't trust her. She kept her face straight as Levi stepped in front of Eren. Levi held out a hand to stop Yelena.

"Too bad. You won't be working with Eren directly. This meeting is as far as we're willing to go." Levi said. Kara was watching Yelena. Yelena lowered her eyes, but seemed to keep a smile on her face. Kara pursed her lips together.

'I don't trust her.' Kara thought.

"More than enough for me." Yelena said. She started walking down the pier. "This is an auspicious day." She held her arms out to the sea. "The ports complete at last. And we're about to welcome our first foreign visitors." Kara looked and saw a ship heading towards the pier to bring their visitors to the island. "From teh sole nation that's friendly to Paradis. Hizuru. Their Special Envoy is Kiyomi Azumabito."

They greeted Kiomi Azumabito as she joined them on the pier. Soon everyone was pulled into a building where the meeting will be held. Mikasa, Eren, and Armin were pulled in for a private meeting. Kara stood leaning against the wall listening the the MPs complain. Kara sighed and walked towards a window and looked at the window as Levi and Hange came out.

"You alright?" Jean asked, coming over. The two were close now.

"I don't know. I just got a bad feeling. I don't trust Yelena." Kara whispered. Jean took her hand and squeezed it.

"I don't either. We'll just have to wait." Jean said.

"Hey." Kara and Jean turned and had smiles on their faces as Marco headed their way. Marco pulled his two friends into a hug.

"It's been awhile." Kara said.

"It has. Let's sit together. You guys don't have to sit at the table?" Marco asked.

"We don't." Jean said. Everyone headed into the room. Kara sat in between Marco and Jean. She was short between the two. Marco had been happy to hear his two friends were engaged. Historia sat at the head table with the visiting nation with Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Hange, and Levi. Papers were handed out to everyone. Kiyomi sat in front of the Scouts.

"This is a historic day for both our nations. And it's worthnothing that this day would never have come if not for the man who brought us together. I'm speaking of course, of Zeke Jaeger." Kiyomi said. Kara rolled her eyes. "We conversed with him in secret, and before he would agree to facilitate this meeting, he negotiated with us on behalf of your island." Jean and Kara shared looks. "We discussed more than Lady Mikasa." She explained how he had showed them some ODM gear. "Zeke Jaeger's proposal was that we ally with and assist Paradis in exchange for access to a resource that could return our nation to its former glory. It's a rather temptin offer."

"So they are looking to use us as money bank?" Kara whispered. Jean and Marco didn't look happy.

"Thus, while we're aware that he made this offer without surveying your reserves, we suspect in this modern era, a treasure like iceburst stone could change the world and generate a fortune in the process." Kiyomi said. Kara clutched her fists in her lap.

'Not surprised, but still. I don't like this.' Kara thought. Jean put a hand on top of hers and gently grabbed it. Kara looked up at him as they sat holding hands. His face was stone cold. He didn't like it as much as she did. Marco was quiet too. Kara looked back to the front. Jean squeezed her hand and she returned it.

"Hold on. So Zeke Jaeger asked you to assist us?" Historia asked, holding a straight face. She didn't seem convinced. "What would you assist us with?" Kiyomi looked at her.

"As I'm sure you're aware, he's concocted a plan to protect Eldia and the world. We're here because this plan can only succeed with Hizuru's assistance. It called for a three point course of action which would allow you to defend yourselves with your so called Rumbling." Kiyomi said. Kara picked up the paper that was handed out. Jean and Marco leaned in to look. "This would begin with a test run of the Rumbling. You would unleash a fraction of the Titans in your walls. Enough to display their destructive potential for all the world to see. That will buy you time with which to modernize and strengthen your army, so as to render the Rumbling unnecessary." Kara looked towards the head table. "You're a hundred years behind the rest of the world. Hizuru will help you catch up. Until then, you must be able to shake the earth by maintaining the Founding Titan and having a Titan of royal blood." The paper Kara was holding slipped from her fingers as the words sank in. "That's the third point of this plan. Zeke will pass on the Beast Titan to an individual who has Royal Blood. And that person must spend the 13 years they'll have left bearing as many children as possible.." Kara was out of her seat and out the door before the rest of the words sunk in, the door slamming shut behind her.

Kara stood out in the garden of the courtyard. Kara rubbed her temples.

"Brat." Levi said, coming out towards her.

"I'm sorry, Captain. I needed to get out to breath. Just hearing that makes me sick. I don't think we can trust Zeke. I feel he has an alteriative motive." Kara said, looking at her father. Levi didn't seem pleased on making a deal with the Titan that him and Kara had promised to kill to Erwin.

"If it's a way to get closer to getting to kill the Hairy bastard, then we got to do what we got to do. We still got a promise to keep. We might not like it, but we will have to do it." Levi said. Kara sighed, but knew her father was right.

"I hope your right, father." Kara said. Levi put a hand on his daughters shoulder. They had a long way before they could kill Zeke Jaeger, but they had a feeling they would get to eventually.
