Kagome was observing the hour marked by the clock decorating the wall. That round, white object, filled by symbols and its dark hands, seemed to echo each second throughout the apartment. Every tick, reverberating in the background, reminded her how soon enough, the train that should take her to Nakano tonight, would depart. However, she was still in her apartment.
She squeezed her phone in her hand, gathering the courage she needed to tell InuYasha she wouldn't be able to go this weekend, as they had agreed. It was clear to her that he'd been enduring the distance, without complaining too much, reason why she had planned to compensate him during these days. Such were her thoughts as her gaze laid on the pink lingerie she had on her bed, drawing yet another sigh out of her. It wasn't easy, to manage her long-distance relationship and her work, even more so when the yearning she had for InuYasha was weighting on her so much. Even so, she was feeling that she was finally achieving something in her job, and to ascertain that step forward, she was needing more time than what she had thought at first. She couldn't blame herself, for what did she truly know about an adult, romantic relationship, after all?
The clock, ticking in the background, was almost deafening to her, which only took her to realize just how anxious she truly was. The best would be to just make the call, once and for all, and explain what needed to be explained.
A knot, twisting in her stomach, was the next thing she felt as the dialing tone entered through her ears; a knot that only tightened further, taking away the breath she needed to produce her voice, and making her greetings high-pitched and inconsistent, when the call went through.
"Hi, you, everything alright?" InuYasha answered in a hurry, as soon as he heard the ringtone he had set for Kagome's calls. And his question was inevitable, given the hour he glimpsed.
"Hi… you." He heard her reply, her voice carrying a tone that was different from usual.
"Something wrong? Are you alright?" He needed to be sure. The call felt strange.
"Yep, yep. I'm alright." He heard the way in which Kagome tried to soothe his worries.
"At what time is the train departing?" InuYasha wondered then, and despite not wanting to get ahead of Kagome's words, he noted a certain sensation of unease finding nest in his body.
She took an instant longer to answer, and did so only after a sigh that pretty much confirmed InuYasha's sensation.
"I can't go," She confessed, her voice filled with something that InuYasha could only interpret as genuine regret. Even so, he remained silent for a moment, which gave Kagome the chance to explain herself, "The meeting I was going to have during the week, was moved forward because the client has to go on a trip."
"I understand," he replied. And he did understand, his rational mind did, yet it hurt nonetheless.
"I'm sorry," Kagome added, "I'll make it up to you next week."
InuYasha smiled with a soft sound that carried over to the other side of the call, reaching Kagome. However, his smile was far from kind; rather, it was tired.

A/N
Here I share with you another chapter of the story of, for me, the beautiful couple that InuYasha and Kagome make in IZON. Life is not easy, and more often than not, it forces us to choose. This story has always revolved around that premise.
Thank you for reading, and commenting.
