Darkness Falls
Chapter 1: The Legend
The Seville family were watching TV when a special announcement came on.
"Tomorrow, expect a solar eclipse. It'll be the first one this area has seen in a while," the announcement said.
Dave says, "That sounds interesting."
Theodore asks, "What's a solar eclipse?"
Simon answers, "It's a phenomenon where the moon moves in front of the sun and blocks out its light for a short period of time."
"Wow! That sounds weird!," Theodore exclaims.
Alvin then says, "I read a story that says once every few years, there will be a strange solar eclipse that will last longer than normal and weird things will happen. Things like glass breaking, electronic devices not working, and people rising from the grave. That's just a few of the things."
"What?!," Theodore says.
Simon replies, "Theodore, don't listen to him. It's just a legend people made up to scare each other. Stuff like that doesn't happen during an eclipse."
"But what if it did happen and could happen again?," Alvin says.
"Alvin, knock it off," Simon replies.
Dave adds, "Yes, you're probably scaring Theodore. Besides, like Simon said, it's just a legend."
"Fine, okay," Alvin says. He then says to himself, "It still could happen."
"Alvin! I heard that!," Dave says.
Later on the family has dinner. During dinner, Dave asks, "So, you guys have anything special coming up?"
Alvin answers, "Unfortunately we do have a couple of tests coming up. One in math and one in science."
"Have you prepared for those tests?," Dave asks.
Simon answers, "Of course we have."
"That's good," Dave replied.
"Simon understands this stuff better than both Alvin and I put together, so he's been helping us," Theodore says.
"I don't want you or Alvin to fail the tests, although Alvin does need to take school more seriously overall so he won't need as much help," Simon claims.
"How many times have I heard that one?," Alvin asks sarcastically.
"Enough to think of it to be true. You don't want to be held back in school do you?," Dave says.
"No," Alvin sighs.
"Good. Let's finish dinner because bedtime is getting close," Dave replies.
The family finishes their dinner and the boys go and play some games.
Later on, it's bedtime and Dave is putting the boys to bed.
"Tomorrow's going to be an interesting day with that eclipse that's going to happen," Dave says.
"I know. It'll be the first one I've seen in a while," Simon says back.
Theodore then says, "What if what Alvin said earlier winds up coming true? That weird stuff he talked about that can happen during an eclipse?"
"Don't worry about it Theodore. That's just a legend that Alvin read about," Dave says.
"But it could happen," Alvin claims.
Simon glares at his older brother and Dave says in a warning tone, "Alvin, don't start that stuff again. It clearly concerns Theodore."
"Alright," Alvin says.
"Goodnight boys," Dave says as he turns out the light.
"Goodnight Dave," the boys respond.
Dave then heads to bed.
As the Chipmunks are falling asleep, Alvin quietly says to himself, "What if it's not just a legend? What if it could happen for real?"
Is Alvin spooked by a legend and is just being paranoid, or could he actually be right? Find out in the next chapter. I do not own Alvin and the Chipmunks, all rights go to the rightful owners. Please review!
