I've had this idea for a long time, and I wanted to run with it. What if there was no exs (Zoe or Alec- I do love Jennifer Beals but for the sake of this, sorry, no Zoe).

What if Sophie was a part of Cal and Gillian, and Emily is too? What if their lives were different because they have an extremely happy marriage with twists and tricks you never see coming?

It always seemed like Gillian was holding back in many aspects, something I wanted to change a bit; she's very motherly, and very passionate which gets clouded and dismissed in the show which always irked me. Well, here goes.

Gillian took a deep breath as her hands unintentionally started to rub her stomach. This is what she wanted more than anything yet, she was consumed with fear.

Logically, she knew why— as a psychologist, she knew all about the way she was feeling but she couldn't help it no matter what she told herself.

She had been let down so many times…

This is different, this is completely different, she told herself repeatedly to try and settle the swirling emotions she was feeling.

Instinctually looking at her watch for about the tenth time, she saw it was almost the three minute mark.

5, 4, 3, 2…

"Gill, you okay?" Cal called out as he knocked on the bathroom door.

Startled, Gillian held a hand over her chest and took a calming deep breath. "I'm fine, be out in a minute."

She tried so hard to hide the swirl of emotions that she felt and to his credit, Cal knew but didn't call her on it.

"Okay love, I'll be downstairs making breakfast. Take your time."

Gillian smiled— it always amazed her how different her business partner Cal Lightman and her husband Cal Lightman are.

Business Cal was a bossy, pain in the ass, risk taking, brilliant, stubborn, hardheaded man who never stops until he knows the truth.

Husband Cal was exceptionally sweet, caring, loving, silly, lighthearted, affectionate, smart and goes out of his way to make sure Gillian always knows she is the best thing in his life.

Focusing back on the task at hand, Gillian took one final deep breath and flipped over the little white stick. This is not the first, second or even fifth time she's been in this exact spot, doing the exact same thing…it was her ninth. Seven of those times, she felt completely shattered at what she saw and the eighth time she was speechless.

Her ninth brought tears immediately — she couldn't even process what was in front of her with everything they have gone through. Oh my gosh, I need Cal! Oh my freakin' goodness!

Standing up and tripping over her own two wobbly legs that pretty much refused to hold her upright, she clumsily made it to the bench at the end of their bed, plopped down, and screamed for her husband.

Cal quickly turned off the stove and ran upstairs fearing the worst and proceeded to get even more worried when he saw his wife blubbering and barely able to catch her breath.

He came to an abrupt halt kneeling in front of her, grabbing her face gently trying to wipe the endless tears as he asked, "What's wrong love? What happened? Are you okay?"

Gillian nodded as it was the only thing she could really do right now and Cal patiently waited, wiping her tears, soothing her with words until he heard a whisper.

"What was that, love?"

"I'm pregnant," she said a little louder, this time holding up the test that Cal completely missed while helping his wife calm down.

Cal jumped up letting go of Gillian as if he'd been burned and she feared the worst until the bouncing around started.

"Bloody freaking hell I'm going to be a dad! You're going to be a mum, love! We're going to be parents!"

Gillian was now standing, and Cal picked up her and spun her around, "YOU'RE PREGNANT! Oh love, I'm so happy! This is the best news in the entire world!"

This is the side of Cal reserved for Gillian and Gillian only, and she loved it; he was the absolute sweetest and his sappy side always came through with her.

Cal put his wife down and pulled her back a bit so he could see her face, "What's wrong love?"

He didn't always read her—it was something they agreed to when they got married: Cal wouldn't read Gillian and Gillian wouldn't psychoanalyze Cal.

Of course they stepped over the line occasionally for the good of the other, like right now. Cal knew his wife wouldn't get upset with him for reading her, although she was typically his blind spot and had a hard time, today was quite easy and it made him feel emotional too.

Gillian was ecstatic, don't get her wrong…there were just a lot of emotions she was prepared for but are still hard to process. She knew in time, things would feel easier to manage but today was not that day. Cal's reaction was better than she could have hoped for though and really made her feel great; they were ready to become a family.

Married for three years, together five, beautiful house, successful careers, but she couldn't help but feel petrified. Not wanting to ruin her husband's excitement, she shook her head and said, "Nothing, this is the best news!" And it's true.

Cal knew that was the truth, but there was also something she was keeping from him. Knowing the way his wife processed things, he let it go for now. They would talk about it when she was ready and that was okay with him.

"I can't believe this love, I'm so happy!" Cal kneeled again, this time lifting Gillian's shirt slightly giving her flat stomach a kiss.

"Hi little one, I'm your daddy. I am so excited to meet you, we're going to be best mates. Your mommy and I are so happy, we've dreamt of you for a long time. I love you mate."

Gillian had more tears streaming down her cheeks as Cal spoke to their little bean. She couldn't help it, she was beyond lucky to have Cal in her life and soon enough, a little baby.

Months passed and the Lightman's decided to wait until Gillian was five months pregnant before telling everyone; she was nervous to say anything too soon because of the miscarriage she had at 16 weeks.

Cal reasoned that the miscarriage was why his wife immediately became petrified when she found out she was pregnant again and because he knows his wife so well, he was correct.

They spoke through it and Cal listened as Gillian voiced her fears; ultimately, all they can do is stay positive and believe their sweet girl will help send them their rainbow baby.

Sophie Lightman—April 3rd: An angel too beautiful for Earth was sent home to Heaven.

Sophie will always be a part of their family. 16 weeks of carrying her, Gillian will never ever forget those precious moments they had together. Cal will never forget talking to his wife's stomach, telling Sophie about how he met her mother, and everything he wanted to do with her when she grew up.

They were completely devastated; they dealt with it very differently at work and very similarly at home. At work, Cal screamed even more than he typically does—he was constantly the bad guy and gave nobody in the office any slack. Gillian on the other hand closed herself off from everyone and only chimed in when spoken to.

At home though, they were hard to separate—they snuggled together for months, Cal always comforting Gillian and making sure he took care of everything so she could rest. He truly went above and beyond, making her fall even more in love with him.

It took almost a year before Gillian said she was ready to try again— ten and a half months to be exact and by the eleventh month, their little rainbow baby was on board.

Form fitting dresses and skirts turned into somewhat baggy shirts and pants or a skirt to hide the fact she was pregnant. Being so small to begin with, at five months nobody could tell with the clothes she wore but they definitely noticed her style had changed this last month.

Today was the day though, they were telling everyone, and Gillian was very excited to be able to finally wear clothes she truly likes. The baggy clothes were great to hide her bump when she didn't want anyone to know but they weren't her favorite as she's always dressed extremely sophisticatedly.

Everyone was really thrilled for them—it was great having their dysfunctional family around them and feeling the love was so amazing. Gillian always knew their staff referred to her and Cal as 'mom and dad' and truthfully, it only ever bothered her after they lost Sophie because they were dealing with such a great loss.

Now though, being five months pregnant and hearing it she can't help but smile more. She cannot wait to see Cal as a real father; just thinking about it makes her heart melt. Putting her pen down she let her daydream take over and didn't mind in the slightest. Everyone knew, no more baggy clothes as of tomorrow, no more hiding their bundle of joy or pretending to be working when she gets lost in thought.

Life was truly magical.

It was now May 29th and everyone was pacing around the hospital. A day that started perfectly normal in the office suddenly became crazy when Gillians water broke a month and two days early.

Loker, Torres, Ben, and Anna couldn't sit still waiting to see what was going to happen. Of course they all knew the baby was coming but because the baby was early they were all hoping everything was okay and they were taking bets on what time he/she was going to be born.

Gillian and Cal knew the gender but decided to keep it to themselves. Gillian wanted to know because planning the nursery was very important for her while Cal said he didn't care if they waited or found out. The surprise would have been cool in his mind but he did like the fact only they knew.

It was pretty much the beginning of the day when Gillians water broke meaning, it was only 10:03am right now. Ben went to find everyone coffee, Torres was still pacing, Eli was trying to get them to guess names, and Anna was very excited. Truth be told, as much as she loves working at the Lightman Group, she wouldn't mind taking care of the baby when the Lightman's came back to work.

Anna had discussed it with Gillian who said she would give it more thought after the baby was born. Gillian spoke to Cal about it that night when Anna asked and he said the same thing—they would see how she was with the baby and make their decision from there.

"Come on, we can each pick a boys and girls name to go with the time we chose." Loker whined.

"Loker shut up!" Torres snapped; he had been talking about this for what felt like forever now. "There's no way Foster and Lightman are naming their baby Eli."

When Torres first started at the Lightman Group she asked Anna if Cal and Gillian were always so flirty which caused Anna to laugh. She explained they were married and even though Gillian uses her maiden name at work, for reasons nobody knows besides the happy couple, her legal name is Gillian Lightman.

"Why not? It's a great name! And you didn't even hear the name I picked out if it's a girl."

Torres gave him a look as if to say, well, what is it?

"I'm not telling you now!"

"You two are ridiculous," Reynolds said, shaking his head back and forth.

"One more push Gillian, one more push and you'll get to meet your baby!" the nurse said.

"Come on love, you've got this," Cal encouraged. He couldn't believe this was really happening, they were about to be parents. In the next few minutes there was going to be a tiny human here, in this world, that they were responsible for.

There were not enough books in the world to prepare him for this—and trust him, he knew. Every book Gillian read, he read too to make sure he knew about anything and everything. None of these books prepared him for all the emotions he would feel watching his wife being a freakin superhuman and the overwhelming love he felt for both his wife and…

"Happy birthday baby," the doctor said as she placed the baby on Gillians chest. The little screams that filled the room didn't seem real to Cal. As he continued to look at his beautiful wife and baby he realized his vision was getting blurry with tears and then felt one of his wife's hands cupping his cheek.

Cal quickly wiped his tears and leaned down to kiss his wife, "I'm so bloody proud of you. I love you so much."

"I love you too," Gillian whispered. She looked back down at the baby and soothed the little cheek.

"You sure know how to make an entrance, huh little one?" Cal said, reveling in the feeling of the baby holding onto his finger.

"Takes after daddy already," Gillian laughed.

"Hey!"

After another twenty-five minutes the nurse took the baby to get her weighed and measured then told Cal to take off his shirt. He immediately got defensive until the nurse explained that skin to skin is best and he happily whipped his shirt off.

Gillian looked over as Cal held their daughter and couldn't help but burst into tears again. Seeing her husband hold their baby girl was magical—it was even better when he looked at her and smiled.

Today was absolutely perfect and it wasn't even noon.

An hour later Cal walked out into the waiting room with the biggest smile on his face. He was beyond proud of his wife and was also sporting the new proud dad walk.

Cal heard everyone before he saw them however, nothing could ruin his perfect mood—not the fact that they were arguing, or he could hear them from around the corner, he was going to use the last thing Loker said to make his grand entrance though.

"We did not name our daughter, Eli," he announced, effectively cutting everyone off. "Healthy baby girl, 5lbs 2oz 17 inches born at 10:41am—Gillian is doing well too."

Everyone noticed the fact he called her Gillian, but nobody said anything. When Cal was referring to his wife when she wasn't around, she was always Foster but right now he couldn't be bothered to notice.

Anna, Ria and Ben cheered at the news while Eli looked like someone kicked his puppy, something that didn't go unnoticed by Cal.

"You bloody idiots took bets on what we were having didn't you?" He waited and shook his head. "You too? Bloody hell Reynolds!"

Ben looked away feeling guilty, Anna did as well whereas Ria and Eli looked smug. None of this could shake Cals excellent mood though, he'd make sure to collect the money later to go in his daughters' piggy bank.

"So, do you want to see her?"

Everyone was on their feet within seconds and following their boss, excitement radiating through them. Well, Eli was still a little butt hurt but that's because he lost double seeing as he voted on a boy—he also got the weight and time wrong, but it seemed like he was the only one who noticed as of now.

Gillian heard everyone before seeing them as well. She couldn't really make out what they were saying until they got a bit closer and heard her husband say, "…yeah but she's the bloody cutest baby I've ever seen."

Then she heard a knock on her hospital door followed by, "You ready for everyone love?"

Gillian smiled as they came in, Cal strolling right over to her bed while everyone else seemed a little shy suddenly. Cal didn't notice they all stopped following him until he kissed both his girls and turned around.

"You can all come closer, she doesn't bite," Gillian said with a laugh.

Anna and Ria were the first ones to move and gushed over the baby. She was adorable. Talk about a breathtakingly beautiful baby.

"Most babies look like aliens but she's actually pretty cute," Eli said. Damn radical honesty—Cal would have decked him if he said anything rude, luckily for him though, Torres whacked him.

"Thank you, Eli," Gillian said with a bit of an edge knowing he would have said her daughter wasn't the most adorable tiny human to ever exist with his need to always be so dang blunt.

"She's so little, look at those tiny fingers!" Ria gushed. Gillian and Cal exchanged a look due to the baby voice Torres used and then Gillian smiled at her.

"How are you feeling Foster?" Reynolds asked. He was the only one who called her Gillian but never when anyone else was around. For some reason it just felt odd to him, so he didn't, and Gillian understood.

"I'm…amazing," she smiled. Obviously, she was exhausted but just like Cal, nothing could change her mind about how amazing she was. It's not everyday you give birth—plus, today is her daughters' birthday! Of course she was amazing.

"So, what's her name?" Torres asked, looking at Gillian.

She looked up at Cal who gave her a look as if to say, go ahead, you tell them. Gillian pressed a kiss to the top of her head and then looked at everyone, "This is Emily Rose Lightman."

"Look princess, you have all these people who are always going to love you and be there for you," Cal added.

Even though he didn't share it with them, he often told Gillian how lucky they were to have such incredible people around them. Gillian had no problem voicing her thoughts to them directly but knew her husband didn't until now. It wasn't as direct as she was, but it counts, and she knows they all understood.

Before anyone could say anything else Emily started to make gurgling sounds and Gillian swore everyone stopped breathing while she and Cal tended to the baby.

"Hi baby, oh look at those pretty eyes; you're looking at daddy, huh?" Gillian said, stroking Emily's cheek gently.

"Oi, she's smiling, would ya look at that!"

Gillian loved seeing how happy Cal was—this day kept getting better and better by the minute.

"Looks like she's already got dad wrapped around her finger," Loker whispered to Torres.

Cal looked up letting him know he heard what Loker said and wasn't happy about it. He too knew Torres and Loker called him dad and Gillian mom but had never heard them like his wife did. Now though, he heard Loker loud and clear: he was extremely unimpressed.

"I am too young to be your bloody dad, Loker, that's why I'm her dad," Cal said, gently rubbing his hand over Emily's little head of brown hair.

Gillian just shook her head at her husband. At least Torres and Loker had the decency to look a bit embarrassed about it.

Gillian made sure to take pictures of everyone holding Emily and was thankful to Cal, Ria and Anna who stepped in to make sure the boys were holding her correctly when it was their turn.

She was just about to send them the pictures she took when Emily started to cry and even though newborn cries aren't that loud or that scary, the boys still freaked out. Reynolds could not hand Emily over to Cal fast enough, which made everyone laugh a little bit.

"Seems like someone is hungry," Gillian announced, lightly bouncing Emily the best she could while sitting in the hospital bed.

"Okay, everyone out!" Cal said, pointing towards the door. He was fine with letting them in to his wife's hospital room, even had no issue with Emily being passed around from one person to the next but feedings are not something he wants anyone here for.

Cal continued, "We have two cases we're currently working on, I want Torres and Reynolds out in the field to talk with…"

Gillian interrupted, reaching out to grab ahold of her husbands' arm, "Cal." When he turned to look at her, she continued. "How about we settle on office work today to give us some time…" The rest was said with her face and Cal understood.

"We will call you later and let you know what's going to happen in the next coming weeks. Office work on the two open cases, nobody goes in the field today. Got it?"

Everyone nodded and said their goodbyes—they all felt very bittersweet leaving though; things were forever going to be different, especially in the next few months and they all knew it.

Loker and Torres were told running things around the office was going to be their job during maternity/paternity leave, but Emily was early meaning they weren't really prepared.

They knew Cal was taking 6 weeks off and Gillian was taking at least 12, what they didn't know is the fact Cal would be somewhat available after two weeks just to make sure things were going smoothly—he wasn't going into the office, this would just be by phone.

It made everyone a little nervous though seeing as Gillian does so much in the office that sometimes Cal doesn't even realize so those extra 6 weeks with Cal and without Gillian are going to be hard on everyone.

Gillian would stop by though—it was a bit hard to think that far into the future because right now she just wanted to learn every little thing about her daughter, but she would be by to see everyone and was certain they would all be over to their house at some point too.

Cal knew his wife was breastfeeding, but it didn't dawn on him until Gillian started to nurse Emily that things were changing drastically for him in that regard. "Oi, those are mine!"

Gillian laughed and looked back down at the baby, "Not anymore, honey. Emily needs the nutrients to grow big and strong like daddy."

"I guess I can share for a little while," Cal responded making Gillian laugh even more.

She really knew how to pull at his heartstrings; he didn't want to admit it to everyone, but Loker was right when he said Emily already has him wrapped around her little finger. The emotions he felt today were some of the most intense emotions he's ever felt in his life.

The admiration for Gillian, gosh she is so bloody strong. He cannot believe how miraculous the process of giving birth was—honestly, his wife is superhuman in his eyes. And Emily, nothing could ever prepare him for the incredibly earth-shattering emotions he felt for her. The love, the need to protect her from anything and everything, that tug in his heart making it almost ache with how powerful her pull was on him.

Cal Lightman was absolutely head over heels in love and felt so complete with his girls.

Gillian and Emily were discharged the following day which made Gillian feel very relieved; she had no problem being in the hospital if need be but she was relieved because even though Emily was over a month early, she was perfectly healthy: just small.

She thought it was absolutely adorable how seriously Cal took his role as a father—he drove exponentially slower, kept looking in the rearview mirror to see Gillian's face just to make sure his girls were okay, and refused to let his wife do anything.

When they got home, Cal helped Gillian out of the backseat and then ran around to the other side to get Emily out of the car. Gillian tried to get one of the bags however, Cal wouldn't let her, making sure he grabbed both bags and Emily. Sure, he could always come back out to the car, but he didn't want to miss a moment with his girls and Gillian hoped that would never change.

Don't get her wrong, Cal was completely different when it was just them—he was so happy, loving, incredibly sweet with her and now with Emily but Gillian was a little curious to see how long her husband could go without checking in on everyone and making phone calls.

It wasn't a bad thing seeing as they do have a business to run but she really hopes he can stay present these next few weeks. Time truly flies and Gillian won't lie, she too is worried she will blink and Emily will be starting school. Is it too early to have these thoughts? Emily is only one day old but she is a planner, so the thoughts are normal to her.

Cal only called the office once yesterday to tell them the plan and then he didn't look at his phone at all for the rest of the day. It's possible he looked at it when she and Emily were sleeping but that's fine. Gillian woke up in the middle of the night to find Emily sleeping on Cal's chest as he spoke to her, which was too precious though.

Either way, she just wants her daughter and husband to be happy. Time will tell, and she can live with that. Snapping back, Gillian smiled hearing Cal talk about the nursery, "…mummy and I are going to show you right now, love."

Gillian took ahold of the hand Cal was holding out and they went upstairs. Once they were up there, Gillian opened the door to Emily's nursery and smiled brightly. "This is all yours baby girl."

The nursery was beautiful. One wall had the most gorgeous wallpaper covered in butterflies—light pink and white with gold accents to match the rest of the room. There was a white crib, dresser, changing table and rocking chair, the fluffiest rug covering the floor and a stunning gold chandelier.

Gillian had dreamt of this nursery for years and it was more beautiful than she ever imagined it to be.

"I think she likes it love," Cal said, looking at his wife.

Gillian knew Emily had shown them many 'reflex smiles' as true smiles typically happen between 6-8 weeks, but she let him have it. Gillian took Emily out of the car seat and held her close, inhaling the newborn scent and peppering kisses to her temple.

Cal stepped into her personal space and peppered his own kisses to the other side of Emily's temple and then gently hugged them.

His life felt so complete.

"It's almost too good to be true," Gillian whispered with tears in her eyes. "I cannot believe we have a daughter—a beautiful, itty bitty, perfect, daughter and she's all ours."

"I know love, I know." Cal kissed Gillian and then pressed a kiss to the top of Emily's tiny hand. His wife was right, it almost felt like a dream; luckily for them, it was real life.

There will be some jumping around-not as much as this chapter, but for the sake of moving things along things will do a little jump.
