"I'm so excited for Mother's Day," Becky told Anya as the two of them sat down at an empty table at the Eden Academy dining hall. Becky had chosen to eat a bowl of vegetable soup for lunch while Anya selected her usual omurice. "I can't wait to take my mom to the mall to do some shopping and go ice-skating."

"What's Mother's Day?" asked a curious Anya. She had never heard of this celebration before. After all, she had spent most of her young life as Test Subject 007; not that anyone else except her family knew about it.

"'What's Mother's Day?' What's Mother's Day?" Becky repeated the question the second time with more emphasis. She spread out her arms to prove her point. Becky really did have a flair for the dramatic. "It's a very special celebration when we honour and appreciate our moms for taking such great care of us." She looked at Anya incredulously. "Don't tell me you've never heard of it before."

Anya shook her head. "To be honest, I haven't. See, my birth mommy died when I was really little, so I don't really recall if I have ever celebrated with her. And when Papa married Mama last year, the two of them have been so busy with their jobs." That was the story Loid taught her to tell anyone if she was ever asked about her family. That her birth mother had died when she was a toddler and that Loid had gotten remarried last year. It was surprisingly believable. "So, long story short, I don't think I've ever celebrated Mother's Day."

Becky nodded understandingly. She knew her best friend had been through a lot. Sort of. She didn't really know that Anya was a telepath and had a spy and assassin for parents. Oh, and a pet dog with the ability of precognition. "I hope you get to celebrate it this year," said Becky. "I know how hard your Mama works to keep you and your family happy."

"Yeah," agreed Anya as she recalled all of her sweetest moments with Yor. Although her mom was one of the most feared assassins in Ostania, she was the nicest mother she could ever ask for. Even though she was mostly bad at cooking. "So how do people normally celebrate Mother's Day?"

"Basically you just spend some quality time with your mom," replied Becky. "Like take her out for a meal, or a spa treatment… giving her a present is also a good idea."

Anya nodded, taking the information in. Quality time, meal, spa, present. That should be simple enough. As long as Papa's willing to help.

"The point is, Mother's Day is all about showing your mother that you love her," Becky went on. "It doesn't matter how you spend it with her, as long as you get to spend time together. As how everyone says it, 'it's the thought that counts'."

Anya nodded again, smiling at her friend. "Okay, thanks Becky."

Upon reaching home, Anya opened the door to see Loid reading the newspaper. It was his day off from his psychiatry work at the Berlint Hospital. Bond was curled up on the floor near the TV, fast asleep. "Papa, I'm home!"

Loid looked up from the article he was reading and smiled softly at her. "Hello, Anya. How was school?"

"It went great! Mr Henderson said I'm doing better in Math," little daughter answered proudly, making him gently stroke her pink hair. "Is Mama home yet?"

Loid shook his head. "No, she's still at the Town Hall. She'll be back sometime before dinner."

"Mother's Day is soon. Can we get Mama something special?"

Loid considered this for a moment. He had been married - officially married – to Yor for quite some time now. It wouldn't hurt if he got her something special to thank her for being such a great mother and wife to the Forgers. "Sure, that sounds like a brilliant idea."

Later that day, Anya paced back and forth in the living room, Loid sitting on the sofa and Bond on the ground. Franky had come over as well. It was necessary for the plan to go smoothly. Besides, he was practically part of the Forger family. "We have a new mission on our hands. Mama has done so much for us, so I was thinking we give her the best Mother's Day surprise ever!"

"So what's your plan, Agent Anya?" asked Franky, getting into character. His best friend's daughter enjoyed playing pretend, especially as a spy.

"I was thinking we get her a surprise present and take her somewhere special," replied Anya. "But I'm not sure how we can do both…"

"I have an idea," Loid spoke up. "I will take Yor for a couple's massage while Franky and Anya go buy a present for Yor. Then, we'll rendezvous for a family meal at the restaurant we went to on our first family outing. How does that sound?"

"That's an amazing idea, Papa!" Anya put her hand in the middle. Franky and Loid put their hands on top of hers. "Mission: Mother's Day is a go!" she declared.

The big day had finally come: Mother's Day. That morning, Loid woke Yor up with some breakfast in bed. It was a croissant and a warm cup of herbal tea, her favourite drink. "Happy Mother's Day, my dear Thorn Princess." He kissed her forehead.

"Oh, Loid! You shouldn't have," gasped Yor.

"I just want to thank you for being such a brilliant mom to Anya and a great wife, Yor," said Loid. "After you finish eating, go get ready. I'm taking you for a couple's massage treatment. We never got to have one on any of our dates so far. And then we'll go for lunch with Anya and Franky."

"I see you've got the itinerary for the whole day planned," teased Yor, kissing him on the cheek. "Typical Twilight."

"What can I say? It's what I do best, besides my job as a spy." Loid smirked at her. "Now eat up. We've got a fun-filled day for us planned out."

Later that morning, while Loid took Yor the spa, Franky and Anya headed to the shopping mall to buy a gift. The interior of the building was just as how Anya remembered, only it was crowded with people. The last time she'd come here was when she went shopping with Becky and bought matching sheep keychains for the two of them. "So, where should we look for a present first?" asked Franky.

"Let's go to the toy store!" Anya exclaimed. "We might find something there that Mama might want, like a toy grappling hook!"

Franky chuckled. "That may be something you would want, Agent Anya, but we're here to buy a present for Agent Mama. We need to think really hard and buy something she would really like."

"What do normal mommies like, Agent Scruffy Head?" asked Anya. She often called her father's best friend by the nickname Scruffy Head because of his unruly curly hair.

"Well, from what I've seen, they usually like pretty things, such as jewellery." Franky took her hand. "Come on, let's go to the jewellery store. There's a great one here at the shopping mall."

As soon as they stepped foot into the jewellery store, Anya's eyes sparkled in amazement. "This is so cool!" she exclaimed. There were many display cases filled with all kinds of jewellery and accessories to choose from. It would be hard to select only one to give to Yor.

"So, what should we get for your mom, Anya?" asked Franky. "And don't worry if the item you choose seems too expensive, I have enough money with me to buy it.

Anya looked at all the display cases, considering her options. The jewellery in the display cases were necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Mama's already got a pair of earrings, so maybe not the earrings… she also has a really pretty bracelet, so… "I say we buy her a necklace, Scruffy Head," she decided. "A really pretty one so she'll remember it forever and ever."

"That's a great choice, Agent." Franky took her to one of the display cases with necklaces. "Which one do you think will make the perfect Mother's Day gift?"

Anya looked at each necklace carefully. She had to choose the best one. A certain necklace suddenly caught her attention. "That one!" She pointed at a gold necklace with a red heart pendant.

"That looks beautiful. I'm sure Yor will love it." Franky smiled at her. He called for a sales attendant and asked to purchase the necklace. After handing the sales attendant the necklace, it was put into a small white box.

"You did an excellent job in playing your role for Mission: Mother's Day, Agent Anya," said Franky as he handed her the small box.

"No, we did an excellent job, Agent Scruffy Head." Anya grinned up at him and took his hand. "Come on, we gotta meet up with Mama and Papa at the restaurant!"

The Forger family and Franky were all seated at a circular table near the window, overlooking a breathtaking view outside the restaurant. "Here's your gift, Mama." Anya handed Yor the small white box.

"Oh, my! I can't wait to see what's inside," said Yor. She gasped when she saw the necklace. "Anya, it's very beautiful. Thank you so much!"

"I knew you'd love it, Mama!" beamed Anya.

"Go on and wear it," urged Loid. "It will look so beautiful around your neck."

Yor put on the necklace and smiled appreciatively at Anya, Loid and Franky. "Thank you so much everyone. You have no idea how much this means to me. This is the best Mother's Day I've ever had!"

"No, thank you for being the best wife and mother there is," said Loid, smiling back.

"And so, Mission: Mother's Day is a huge success!" declared Anya, and the four of them all laughed.
