Chapter 1: Hello Angel Grove?
Present Day?
I leave my home, looking out across the Starry sky. For the first time in almost 30 years I feel...at peace? Is that the right way to put it? Either way, this is the quietest my life has ever been since the day it all went so strange. The day I woke up in a world from my childhood, and became so ingrained into it, that myself and my friends ended up saving the world in a way the others could never dream.
Not only that, but very few of my closest friends know the truth about me. They don't know my real name, they certainly don't know what my real age SHOULD be. And they most certainly don't know that I shouldn't even be in this world. That I'm an outsider from a completely different reality, where all of this was merely a fun little show for Children, adapted from a Japanese action series. One that went from soaring highs, to crushing low, and everywhere in between. I had been considering writing my story down, or recording it...anything really to get it down. Partly to make sure I wasn't going insane, but mostly just to get it all off my chest. Today, I think, will be that day.
I head back inside, where my children have already been put to bed. My wife is sitting on the couch, and she looks up at me with a smile. "A lot on your mind?" She asks. I nod to her.
"I'm...I'm thinking about logging my story. Everything." I tell her. She stands up and approached me, wrapping her arms around me in an embrace as she does so.
"Do what you feel is best." She tells me, planting a kiss on my lips. After we hold one another for a moment, I make my way to my study, and boot up my computer. I set up a recording program and take a few, long breaths. Then, I begin…
"To anyone who may find this Log, this is a recording of someone the world at large knows as Benjamin 'Benny' Falke. That isn't my real name. What I am about to tell you might sound crazy at first...but stranger things have happened to this world, and the people in it. For years, the Multiverse is a concept we've all been quite familiar with. However, most are unaware of just how large, and full of possibilities, the Multiverse truly is. That is where my story begins, on a world very different than our own. A World where I found myself living an average life. A boring, monotonous life...until one day I was granted an opportunity many would kill to have…"
Somewhere in Canada, 2023
My life wasn't anything special. Neither was I to be honest. I was almost 30, wasn't exactly in the best shape, had decent length, dark blond hair, and blueish eyes with fairly light skin. Even my daily routine was simple. I woke up, went to work, made my way home, and chatted with my friends online. It was a normal, average, boring day.
Boring.
That's the best way to describe my life back then. Boring, dull, normal. I never imagined it would change. I just kept going through the motions. The best part of my day was getting home, relaxing, and chatting online with friends. Occasionally I would watch something on a streaming service or YouTube, but not much else. Of all the stuff I watched however, there was one thing that would always hold a place in my heart. Power Rangers. Sure it was a kids show. Sure it was silly as hell, but I didn't care. I watched the show a lot when I was a child. I remembered watching Dino Thunder as a child, eventually discovering the rest of the series much later, and becoming completely invested in its characters and world. And This year would be the 30th anniversary of the show. I had to admit I was excited, I couldn't wait. Between Cosmic Fury and the Once and Always special, this was shaping up to be an amazing year for Power Rangers.
The rest of my day proceeded as normal. After hanging out with family, and chatting with some of my friends, I eventually turned in for the night. Strangely, I found myself more tired than normal. It would usually take me a while to fall asleep, but that night, it happened almost instantly. That would be my last night living a 'Normal' life….
Darkness, quiet, calm. I found myself in a strange void, floating alone. Then, I saw a small spark zipping by. Then another, then another. Until soon I saw a web of energy cycling all around me, connecting to various nodes of multiple colors. My eyes widened when I realized what I was looking at.
It was the Morphin Grid. I was in the freaking Morphin Grid! Of course at the time I believed that I was just dreaming. After all, what were the actual odds I was floating in the source of power for the Power Rangers Universe? I closed my eyes and relaxed myself. Surely this was a dream? Things got even more insane as I saw what appeared to be a glowing humanoid slowly approaching me. It resembled a regal figure clad in white armor. A Morphin Master! Unlike the ones from Dino Fury, however, this one wore radiant Silver where the others wore their respective colors.
"This is one hell of a dream…" I said to myself as the Master approached.
"This is no Dream." He told me, his voice commanding, yet regal. "This...is reality." As if to demonstrate, he touched my arm, and I actually felt it. "I am Master Silver, one of the Morphin Masters. But...you knew that already."
"How is this real?" I ask, my heart beginning to race. "Power Rangers is just a TV show isn't it?"
"In your Universe, yes." Silver told me, nodding. "However, you are no doubt aware that myself and my comrades are capable of viewing the Multiverse. While the others focused on worlds the Morphin Grid itself touched, I was always fascinated by worlds beyond our own." He closed his eyes briefly. "Especially a world where the exploits of the Power Rangers are mere fiction."
"And what does this have to do with me?" I ask, still unsure if I was dreaming or not.
"A terrible Evil has begun to play a Great Game with the Power Rangers Multiverse." Silver began. "None in our worlds who exist are aware of the presence of our foe. And the other Masters do not heed my warnings...I cannot blame them, for our foe was long thought destroyed." He shook his head silently, and motioned towards me with his staff. "Therefore, I have chosen you to be my piece in their game. My Ace in the hole."
"But why me?!" I finally ask, beginning to become increasingly concerned with what I was hearing.
He floated silently for a moment, then I swear I could see him smile. "Because of your love for our Worlds. Our stories." He told me. "You who have followed us for years. Who have grown attached to the people and events of the Power Rangers. True, I could have chosen any other fan… but I can see in your heart, I have made the right choice." His staff began to glow, and images of the various Rangers flashed past us, leaving me looking around in awe. "I offer you this chance. You will be reborn within the world you love. But I will not send you unprepared." He touched his staff to my chest and I began to glow. "I will return you to a younger age, and a more fit body. I will give you a history in the world, a family, a past. And I shall allow you a new name."
"A new name?"
"One you may choose yourself, to complete your transformation." Silver confirmed. "One that will allow you to live among the world without suspicion, should you have a Counterpart already." I was left in thought at this offer. Living among my childhood heroes? A chance to experience the grand story of the Power Rangers firsthand, backed by an immortal Morphin Master himself? It was all to much for me to take in. But I had to admit, it was the chance of a lifetime. "Have you made your decision?" He finally asked me after some time.
I slowly nodded. "I accept."
"Then what do you desire as your new name?"
I smiled. It was a simple affair to come up with an alias. Using my most common Username from my various online accounts, along with the initial of my first name, I was able to come up with my answer. "Benjamin Falke." I answer with confidence.
"Very well, Benjamin Falke. Awaken in your new life." Silver declared, and everything faded into a white flash…
I woke up suddenly to the sound of an alarm clock. I reached over, half expected to have to grab my phone, only for my hand to land on an older model clock. In surprise, I sat up quickly and found myself in a completely different room. Everything around me seemed so...dated? From my TV, to the clock by my bedside, to the posters on my wall. At that moment, everything clicked for me. I wasn't dreaming. I was in Angel Grove, in the 90s. Quickly, I sprung from my bed and ran to the nearest mirror, and stared in utter shock. Master Silver wasn't lying, as the face that greeted me was my own, but I looked like I did in High School, albeit in better physical shape. My hair had lightened up slightly as well, and was short and well cut. I picked up a photo on my dresser and examined it, getting a good idea of how my parents looked in this world. They obviously were different, yet somewhat similar to my real world mom and dad.
At that moment, everything sort of hit me at once. I sat down on my bed, staring at the photo of myself with two...sort of strangers. I was in a completely different world, with a completely different name. My Family, my friends….my identity? I may never see them again. I began to wonder what happened to the me in my own world? Did I just disappear overnight without a trace? Did I tragically pass away in my sleep? Or is another 'me' still there, living my life while I live what I thought would be the ultimate Fanboy dream? I took several breaths to calm my nerves and think about my choice. Even if I regretted it, there wasn't any turning back. This was my new world, and I would have to live with it.
A knock at the door shook me out of my panic and I looked up. "Ben, are you up? You don't want to miss your first day at Angel Grove High." I heard my mother say.
"R-right!" I called back. "I'm awake just… getting dressed!"
"You sound nervous." She said from the other side of the door. "I know you're worried about being new in town, but I'm sure it'll go fine." As she spoke to me, I started to get changed. Having a moment to collect my thoughts as I got dressed, I realized I remembered new things. Things that didn't happen to me in my world. Master Silver had given me memories of my life in this world. I silently thanked him for making my cover story easier, before finally leaving my room and joining the family in the dining room for breakfast. I spoke with them, making absolutely sure to get my story straight, before I grabbed my backpack and made my way to catch the School bus.
My heart was racing a mile a minute as I rode the bus. It would only be a few minutes. A few minutes.. and I'd be meeting people I recognized. The Power Rangers. Bulk. Skull. All of them. I briefly pondered if Zordon had chosen the five yet, or if Tommy was around. Was Rita already attacking? I couldn't exactly ask anyone because if she was it would look weird that I didn't know, and if she wasn't I'd look crazy. I even wondered if, because of the Morphin Master, I would be chosen by Zordon as well? I quickly decided that I didn't want that. As amazing as this all was, I was still held back by my fears, my concerns. I doubted that I could ever be a Power Ranger, be useful to the team.
For the time being, I decided to play the role of observer. Master Silver had told me that his opponent was playing a 'game' so I was expecting things to be different than what I was used to. Even then, I was concerned about the ramifications of altering any part of the timeline. This wasn't a TV show anymore, this was my life.
And Despite all my reservations...I was still somewhat excited to see my childhood heroes in person.
To Be Continued…
Well this is a weird one from me isn't it? There are three primary reasons for this story's existence.
1) This is my way of celebrating 30 years of Power Rangers.
2) I've always loved Isekai Stories
and 3) This is actually somewhat based off a weirdly vivid and detailed dream I had roughly a week ago.
I do hope you don't discount this series outright and please give it a fair shot. I hope some of the changes and events that will occur by my presence in this world will interest you all, and I hope we can all just have a fun time with this absolutely silly concept.
Power Rangers is property of Hasbro and Saban. Super Sentai is property of Toei.
Feedback on this story is EXTRA appreciated, since this is such a new concept to come from me.
