Chapter 1: Before The Sun Rises

Soul Society Kingdom, Past Life

An albino figure is napping under the trees behind the kingdom of the Soul Society. His bizarre, pale, white skin complexity is attempting to hide beneath the shadows from the trees, but his white spikey hair is too white to be hidden. A small lion-colored cat came to curl next to the figure to nap together with the figure. Nothing seemingly could interrupt his peaceful nap …

"Wake up fool!"

Well, almost could... A small, yet elegant woman screams at him to come back to reality. Her slick black raven hair was shaped like a bob, with a signature bang across her face. She's wearing a black kimono, with a white belt wrapped around her waist. The violet orbs she has are like the galaxies in the night - bright and astronomical. Standing in at roughly 4'8" would make her hardly intimidating to most, but don't let her cute figure fool you. Her attitude is as if she was in fact 7'0 feet tall.

The young heir woke up, annoyed by her actions. With the groan on his face, "Will ya leave me alone midget, I am trying to sleep here."

"Is this how a prince-turned-be-soon king lives his life? By sleeping all day?" Her hands struggled to her shoulders, her violet eyes rolling at disgust.

"I like teasing ya, Rukia. I'm trying to make sure my protector is active at all moments." He proceeds to stand up, towering over her at his 6'0 stature; however, Rukia never feels intimidated by him, despite his creepy looks.

In fact, she never did. Growing up together with him, she never felt afraid like the other kids did. His creepy black eyes with yellow pupils would scare the living shit out of anyone, except Rukia.

At the age of eleven was when she saw Shirosaki for the first time. Her first encounter with him was seeing him in their noble clan's state. The locals were either afraid of Shirosaki or made fun of him because he was…'different' from the locals due to his eyes and skin.

"Hey white and black circus freak! Get out of here!"

For a child who had been born into the noble house of Shiba, Shiro was not treated like royalty. The Shiba house, though distantly related to the current king, was destitute and falling apart. The birth of an heir was what the elders of the house hoped for, but the child that was born turned out to be… different. Not only that, but his mother, the lady of the house, died giving birth to him, leading wagging tongues into spreading rumors that he was an unlucky child.

Since even the members of the Shiba clan treated the supposed heir with indifference and lightly-veiled disgust, it didn't take long for even commoner and slave children to pick on the poor child. Rukia had seen it all, for she had been working as slave of the Shiba clan from the time they had found her wandering in the market streets as a starving child.

As she was nothing but a mere slave, Rukia had no right to meddle with anything that happened around her. She was to be seen, but not heard, but time came when she couldn't bear the harassment she saw that Shirosaki was getting, and risking her own life as slaves could get for any show of defiance, she went on to rescue the young heir.

As usual, the children of the courtiers were pelting the seven year old heir with stones in the courtyard while Rukia was hanging the freshly laundered sheets of the clan elders. She was already 11 years old that time, and it had been five years since she had been taken as a slave. Not once in that time period she had done anything not expected of a slave like her, until that day.

An especially large stone hit the young Shirosaki and blood burst from his forehead–that was what broke the camel's back for Rukia. She decided that she would put an end to their bullying of the heir of the house, even if she knew she was going to be punished after this. Rukia abruptly dropped the linen she was holding and instantly rushed to Shirosaki's side. He was crying while all the kids around him did nothing but laugh at the poor child. She, the mere slave, pushed away the kids who are of higher rank than her.

"You're all supposed to be nobles, but there is nothing noble in your souls!" Rukia screamed.

"Hey, slave girl! You have no right to even speak! Our fathers will know about this!"

Rukia was not sure where she was getting her bravery that day, but she picked up a large stone herself and threatened the other children who were much younger than her.

"All of you leave or I will make sure to make your heads bleed like what you did to Shirosaki-sama!"

As she was much bigger than the children, they all looked scared. After a moment of hesitation, they then scattered and ran away from them, leaving her with the bleeding heir.

Poor Shirosaki-sama was wailing loudly . Rukia kneeled down in front of him and tore out the cloth of her sleeves, and went on to tie the piece of cloth around his bleeding head.

"You're supposed to be the next heir of soul society. If you are afraid of the other children, you just have to get stronger." Rukia said as she wiped away some of the blood from his forehead.

With a small tear in his eye pouring down to his bloody white face, Shiro looked straight at her."They.. They just don't understand who I am." Shirosaki said to her.

"Even if no one in the world believes your story Shiro, stick out your chest and scream in defiance!" Rukia screamed passionately at him.

"Don't worry." Rukia hugged him, surprising Shirosaki as he never felt affection from another person before in his life, "If no one will, then I will protect you.. forever."

Young Shirosaki's eyes and face lit up like fireworks. Did he hear that correctly? Why would a slave want to protect him of all people?

Flash forward to today, it all makes sense. He was to be the new king soon, and he needed someone to protect him. The recently-deceased King didn't have any legitimate heirs and only the House of Shiba had produced a lone male heir. As the only distantly related clan to the royal family, the House of Shiba's heir was chosen as the next king. The woman who saved him 10 years ago is the one qualified to be his protector. He trusted her, with all his white and black heart.

Shiro petted her soft black hair like a cat. Rukia got thrown off guard that her mood completely changed. Rukia with her eyes closed and a soft smile on her face. "Now, you want to be sweet to me huh?"

"Well, Rukia needs to be loved, ya know.."

As he said that, Rukia opened her eyes. The two started into each other's orbs. The tension moments earlier was gone, replaced by a warm, romantic vibe. As the two gazed into each other's orbs, they slowly came closer and closer into each other's faces… slowly to each other lips..

"Rukia! Prince Shirosaki!" a voice called out of them. They completely stopped in their tracks to look up to see who it was.

"Juushirou!" Rukia went down on a knee to address him. "I'm sorry sir! I found Shiro taking a nap and.."

"Rukia, no need to explain every little detail to me. You two trust each other after all." Juushirou calmly said. "I'm here to tell you that Shiro's ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow morning!"

Inside Prince Shirosaki's chambers lies a small room. Filled with a bed, books, a secured lock door and escape door in case of an emergency. It was night already. Juushirou had filled him and Rukia about the details of the correlation tomorrow, explaining the procedures and such.

Shirosaki was thinking. Tomorrow he was next to be king tomorrow, but did he feel it? He was no longer weak, he was stronger like Rukia had suggested him to be eleven years ago. Physically and mentally strong willed.

But he wasn't thinking about tomorrow, him being kind or anything like that. Oh no. That was the least of his worries.

"Rukia…" He said softly….

Rukia was the only thing he ever thought about. She was the one dominant thing that was on his mind for the last eleven years. He thought of times exploring the villages together, being a part of the Shiba clan together for the past eleven years, looking at the night sky together…

She was the only thing that kept him sane during this whole royalty shit. She's the only thing that makes him.. well, happy.

Speaking of Rukia, Rukia rushed her way through the different corridors of the palace, heading for Shiro's room. She couldn't sleep and wanted to watch the moon with Shiro, as it's one of his favorite things to do, but Juushirou had insisted on the young heir to rest today, as he didn't want bad luck to happen tomorrow. Rukia was willing to do so another time, but she felt this was the right to go as Shiro's going to be king tomorrow, and she felt that it was their last time together before Shiro merges his life into being a king.

Also, she'd found and bought a beautiful moon necklace and wanted to give it to him as well. So it's the perfect occasion for it. She was certain that Shiro would love it, since he once said to her that the two embodied the sun and moon with glistening colors. She'd noticed that Shiro loved the moon and everything to do with it quite clearly when they met eleven years ago.

She peeked into the room and smiled happily to see that no one but Shiro was in the room. Most, if not everyone in the kingdom was sleeping already. So this is her chance!

"Shiro!" She rushed into his room, the box of the necklaces held tightly in her grip, and grinned cheerfully at him. "I've got a surprise for you!"

His black pupils lit up at seeing her unexpectedly. "Rukia?! What ya doing here? You're not supposed to be..

"I was at the market today and I found this," Rukia said, cutting him off. She set the box that contained the necklace on the table. "It's a gift for tomorrow's ceremony. I wanted to give it to you in advance."

Shiro looked at the box, scratching his noch. "What's in the box?" He didn't look all that thrilled, all things considered. Rukia wasn't too surprised at his reaction; for one the box didn't look that elegant or pleasing. It's just a small white box that's dented a bit. It didn't look like something of wealth that everyone in the kingdom would have.

"Open it!" Rukia insisted. She'd thought much the same way as him for a second, but she knew he was going to like it. To be fair, she never gave a gift to Shiro before, so she was certain that he would be hesitant at first.

Shiro scratched his nape once again. She didn't like it when he wasn't in a good mood. Matter of fact, she hated it when he was unhappy, even just a sminged. But, she's giving her life to protect him so she would always attempt to cheer him up, even if her attempts at times aren't successful.

The young heir looked at the box again, then shrugged his shoulders and opened the box. "Whoa!" His entire mood completely changed. He took out the necklace of the moon. He glanced back at Rukia and just had to make a small smile. The look the two gave was everything that she'd imagined and then some.

"It's the moon!" Shiro said in excitement. He put it around his neck. Shiro seemed very pleased with Rukia's gift so much.

"Here!" Shiro held out a box of his own towards her and now, it was her turn to be the surprise one. "I also got ya something." His box looks a lot neater. Rukia's heart skipped several beats at the very thought that he also got her a gift too. What are the odds of that? She could only hope that it was something she would like.

She opened the box and now, her violet orbs lit up the whole room. Her jaw dropped, she glanced back at Shiro.

"It's a necklace of the sun?" Rukia said out, "How did you know that I-.."

Shiro cutting her off this time. "Just like you, I was gonna give it to ya after tomorrow, but since ya surprised me just now, I decided to give it now."

"Perhaps we can read each other's minds somehow.." Rukia said knowing their history together, she felt like butterflies in her stomach. But, she didn't show her emotion about it as she was suppressing her feelings.

The two returned from watching the moon outside and having more chit-chat. Before they left back to their rooms, she couldn't unsee his glowing black-yellow pupils and happy smile once more. Seeing him smile made her heart and soul feel at peace. For her statement she said at 11 years old, She really did Shiro, anything at all, whether or not he asked it of her, just for the chance to see that smile and to always fulfill her promise.

Meanwhile…

A group of vigilantes gather around near the kingdom. They spot to see if anyone is around or hearing their conversation first before plotting their plan.

"So tomorrow, we plan to take out that freak…so that way, I'll be able to be the king.." A mysterious figure spoke to his partner.

"Ah.. yes.. And then during the surgery.. We'll be able to remove his supernatural gifts away and be able to transfer it to you my lord.. Then we will kill him.. And say he died from complications during the operation." Said the other mysterious figure.

Little did they know, on the other side of the wall, a tall blonde haired man heard the whole conversation of what those vigilantes just said. Others would be horrified and scared for dear life, but he clearly wasn't. He walked away, heading back to the kingdom, with his own plan.
