Chapter 48: Serena's Bugging Out
"What the-Yuya? ? Barrett? Anyone?"
To say Serena was surprised when she stepped inside the door was an understatement. All around her was a lush forest teeming with insects. A quick brush against a tree proved that it was real and not a hallucination.
"I don't know what's going on, but something tells me that Cube has something to do with it."
"My my, aren't we perceptive?"
Serena jumped, coming face to face with a short, blue haired teenager wearing beetle glasses.
"Who the fuck are you?"
The teen blanched, before his face turned into one of rage.
"Show some respect! I'm Weevil Underwood, the former Japanese champion!"
"Oh, now I remember! Yuya mentioned a former champion who got disqualified for cheating."
Weevil snarled, pushing his glasses up on his forehead.
"It's not my fault my opponents were too stupid to not check their decks before our matches! But that won't matter. Once we rule the world, I'll be right back on top where I belong!"
"Yeah yeah, good for you. But in the meantime, you're in my way, so I'm guessing I have to beat you in order to proceed?'
"Hah, if you can!"

Weevil: 8000
Serena: 8000
"I'll make the first move! And to start, I'll summon Petit Moth (300-500/200-400) in attack mode!"
"Hey, why'd your monster's stats increase? There's no field spell in play."
"Look around you! The moment you stepped into my Spider's web, the field spell Forest was activated. Now all of my Insects gain 200 attack and defense points."
"Hmph, whatever. Not like I have anything to worry about."
"Oh, but you do, for I activate the effect of the Cocoon of Evolution in my hand!"
Silk threads began to weave their way around Weevil's monster, encasing it in a cocoon.
"My cocoon can only be equipped to Petit Moth, but as long as it's equipped it replaces my Moth's attack and defense with its own (500-200/400-2200)! And the longer its equipped, the stronger my Moth becomes."
"Am I supposed to be impressed by that? You summoned it in attack mode, and 200 attack isn't going to stop much."
"Oh, don't you worry about that. I set one card face down and end my turn."
Serena narrowed her eyes as she drew her card. Weevil was up to something, but she couldn't figure out what.
"I'll begin with my Lunalight Kaleido Chick (1400-1600/800-1000) in attack mode! Looks like you're Insects aren't the only ones who get a buff from your Forest, but that's not all! By sending Lunalight Cat Dancer from my Extra Deck to the graveyard, Kaleido Chick takes on her name, so by activating Polymerization I can fuse her with the Lunalight Blue Cat in my hand to summon Lunalight Panther Dancer (2800-3000/2500-2700) in attack mode! Next, I'll activate her effect! This turn, your monsters won't be destroyed by her first attack, but she can attack them twice!"
"You're not the only one with tricks up their sleeve! I activate Parasite Paranoid from my hand!"
Serena nearly threw up as the purple…thing latched itself around Panther Dancer, making her take on a more insectoid appearance.
"Not only does this card turn your Panther Dancer into an insect, but it prevents her from attacking any other Insects! So my Moth is safe."
"Fine. I'll end my turn."
"And so begins your downfall! Go, Cocoon of Ultra Evolution! This card allows me to tribute an Insect from either field in order to Special Summon any Insect from my deck. The only catch is that the monster tributed has to have an equip card on it."
"From either field? Don't tell me-"
"That's right, say goodbye to Panther Dancer…"
Panther Dancer struggled to break free as a cocoon began to wrap around her, but to no avail. Once she was fully encased, the cocoon exploded to reveal a gigantic moth.
"...And say hello to Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth (3500-3700/3000-3200)!"
"Alright, that's mildly impressive."
"Just you wait, I'm nowhere close to being done! By tributing an Insect with 2000 or more defense that has an equip card on it, I can bring forth this monster from my Extra Deck! Come on out, Ultimate Great Insect (3000-3200/2600-2800)!"
Serena began to sweat as the two giant insects stared her down.
"Scared yet? You should be, because I'll equip Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth with Insect Armor With Laser Canon, giving him 700 extra attack (3700-4400)! Attack her directly, my monsters!"
Serena braced herself as the two insects created giant gusts of wind, knocking her off her feet and sending her right into a tree.
Serena: 400
"Ugh…that's no hologram. This is real!"
"I'll end my turn there. Poetic, isn't it? All of those insects you crushed under your foot, and now you're untimely demise will be brought upon you by them!"
"I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm far from done! Go, Lunalight Fusion! Ordinarily, I could only use monsters in my hand or on my field. But since your Ultimate Great Insect came from the extra deck, I can use a monster from my Extra Deck for the fusion summon!"
"What?"
"I'll fuse another copy of Panther Dancer with the Lunalight Black Sheep and the Lunalight Purple Butterfly in my hand to summon Lunalight Leo Dancer (3500-3700/3000-3200)!"
"You fool! You may be able to destroy Ultimate Insect, but it's still to weak to destroy my Ultimate Great Moth!"
"Noted, but that's why I have this: Luna Light Perfume! This special summons Lunalight Blue Cat from my graveyard (1600-1800/1200-1400)! And when she's Special Summoned, the attack of one Lunalight monster I control becomes double its original (3500-7000)!"
"Oh no!"
"Oh yes! Leo Dancer, destroy Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth!"
But Weevil's scared face turned into an evil smirk.
"Just kidding! During the battle phase, my Ultimate Great Insect can destroy all of your monsters!"
The fusion monster took to the sky, unleashing a devastating tornado that ripped apart Serena's Blue Cat. However, Leo Dancer kept charging.
"Surprised? My Leo Dancer can't be destroyed by your card effects."
"What? But that means-"
"Your overgrown caterpillar is toast!"
Leo Dancer leapt up, bringing her swords straight down, cutting Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth in half, destroying it in a massive explosion.
Weevil: 5400
"That's not all! After Leo Dancer attacks a monster, she can destroy all of your Special Summoned monsters."
"What?"
Leo Dancer turned to the other monster on Weevi's field and threw one of her swords, piercing the monster in the chest and causing it to explode.
"Oh, and one more thing: she can attack twice per battle phase."
"What? But that means-"
"You lose!"
Leo Dancer pounced, quickly catching her thrown sword as she leapt towards Weevil. The teenage tried to turn and run, only to trip on a root and got slashed by her swords.
Weevil: 0000
Weevil struggled to get up, only to find his body beginning to disintegrate.
"No, no! This isn't how this was supposed to happen! NO!"
With that, Weevil's body vanished, Serena's eyes going wide as she witnessed it all.
"What's going on?"
She didn't know, but she knew she had to find her comrades.
